Stupid Mario Brothers is a relatively popular YouTube show hosted on Richalvarez's channel. It is independently made by a group of friends who also made Youtube News which guest starred in Act I of the Movie and hosted the Mushroom Kingdom Election between Mario and Wario. Ash wins unexpectedly.

The show features a Massive Multiplayer Crossover of many Nintendo characters, as well as a few from from other franchises. It places them in the real world, where they can do anything from playing their own game to saving the entire world.

• Action Girl: Mona
• Acting for Two: Every actor has played more than one character.
• A Good Name for A Rock Band: X and the Ys version with Johnny Mushroom and the Kingdoms.
  • Along with Wario's short lived band Tommy Fungus and the Dungeons.
• April Fools' Day: Episode 55 was delayed for two weeks, replaced with a video PSA about smoking by Snake.
  • The same thing was repeated with Episode 68 only with a skit featuring Julian (Snake) and Austin (Brock) where Julian plays Resident Evil 4. Richard hilarious lampshaded the fact people fell for it the second time around.
• All Just a Dream: The beginning of Episode 46.
• Ascended Extra: Walgina gets a bigger role in Season 3.
• Altum Videtur: Used lightly since Nox Decious was introduced.
• Aside Glance: After Link drank bad milk and the others said he won't be in Season Three, Ash says their fans will be pissed, but Mario says they'll get over it. Cue this trope.
  • Wario and Waluigi do a few of these in the finale.
• Back for The Finale: Everyone except Ash, Daisy, Peach, Otacon and a handful of other characters returns for Season 5. Link in particular makes one last appearance in the final episode.
• Back From the Dead: Almost every villain. And it's lampshaded every time. The most notable example so far is a comment made by Snake to Blaire Vherestorm in Season 5:

Snake: You were dead, you came back. Vercetti was dead, he came back. What's the point of killing you if you're just gonna come back?

• Back Stab: Practically a theme
• Badass: Snake and Max Payne. (Note: they are both played by Julian)
• Badass Biker: Wario's Wario Ware costume. (He still needs a bike though)
• Badass Normal: UPS and arguably Fed Ex. That is, when they don't use slap combat.

  • Be sure to never pitch a video game idea to Bob and Joe. Ash succeeds with his Pokemon idea, however.
    • The Darkness has an unfunny one when Wario tells him he's still in Mario's shadow.

• Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens quite often, the best known example being when Snake, Otacon, and Ash visited Richard to make him edit their entire trip to Merlin's Table. Later, when the Darkness approaches Luigi and Wario in an attempt to start an alliance, they say he will have to wait a week (the episodes are released once a week), after which the Darkness objects and says he is sick of breaking the fourth wall.
• Breather Episode: Episode 45 and Act 1 of The Movie
  • Most episodes of any season before the season's respective Big Bad shows up about halfway or three fourths of the way through.

• Brick Joke: In "The Interactive Adventure," Luigi ended up inheriting a mansion.   • At the beginning of Season 4, Snake claims that he saw his brother Liquid (whom he believed to have killed in The Movie) drinking Starbucks. When it is revealed Liquid is alive we find out Blaire recruited him to the Trifecta by finding him drinking Starbucks.
• Broke Episode: "The Interactive Adventure." Mario was too lazy to pay rent.

  • Wario's job at the printer shop reappears in Act I as his Summer Job. This however leaves us to wonder if Waluigi is still employed.
  • Luigis Mansion is mentioned in Season 4.
  • Season 5 contains a bunch of characters and locations from previous seasons as part of being the last season.

• Genre Savvy: Snake realizes his mistakes in his first fight with Liquid and makes sure to completely kill him the second time around.
• Good Colours Evil Colours: Mario and Wario's beam swords being originally blue and red made this clear (although they would later get beam swords that have their own colour)
  • Naturally Bowser, Darkness, Decious and Ganon have evil colours.
• Gotta Catch Em All: Ash and Brock's main intention with Pokémon. They're based more on their original characterization in the early episodes of the anime than anything else.

• I Know Mortal Kombat: In Act 1, Ash got the Mario Bros. and Peach out of prison by playing Ace Attorney for over 100 hours (as he finished playing Pokemon Platinum early).
• I Know You Are in There Somewhere Fight: Variant, Mario tries this before his fight with a Brainwashed Luigi. It works at the end, though.
• Improbable Aiming Skills: The General of the Darkness' army doesn't fight much, but when he does, he has yet to miss with a gun.
• Interrupted By the End: Episode 13 has this
• Interspecies Romance: Between Pauline and Donkey Kong, much to Mario's disgust.
• Instant Awesome, Just Add Ninja: The opening of Episode 55 only.
• Irony: Waluigi reveals that he and Walgina broke him because she wanted him to stop wearing purple despite the fact she wears purple herself.
• Ironic Echo: "Snap out of this fantasy, and come back to reality."
• It's All My Fault: Mario says this during the season 2 premiere. Because the warp pipes are not working, Mario says it's his fault that there are no heroes in their world.

  • Luigi says this to Mario in episode 43, when Mario and Luigi discover that they are the only two people that can go up against the Big Bad Wario, as they might not survive.

Wario: So why do we fight with Li.... uhh I mean Beam Swords? Mario: I don't know. They use them in Super Smash Brothers.

• Lighter and Softer: Season 4 until The Darkness and Decious return. Previously we've dealt with evil copies of Mario and Luigi, Bowser, and a temporarily evil Wario. Now we have comic relief ninjas.
• Line-of-Sight Name: Snake gets one in The Interactive Adventure. "My name is um... Stapler...Cheeto!"
• Loony Fan: More like a Crazy-obsessed-stalker-who-makes-you-unable-to-sleep-at-night Fan, as evidenced by her "Let's Get Hammered" Mario T-Shirt.
• MacGuffin: The Nether Saber and the Truth Stone.
  • And then the Master Sword in Season 5. Since it's the only thing that can defeat Ganon.
• Man Behind the Man: Ganondorf is effectively behind most of the major conflict in the series; he was involved in the first revival of Nox Decious, who in turn created the Darkness, who in turn created the Trifecta, who paved the way for Ganondorf and his army.
• Manipulative Bastard: In Season Four, Professor Oak willingly tricks Gary and Brock into doing several mundane tasks for him just so they could find out from him which one of them sucks more. Oak eventually claims they equally suck for not turning down the tasks. As a result the two fight over which one of them hates each other the most which Oak uses to his advantage once more.
• Medium Awareness: Plenty. For example, Wario complains about being unable to get a flashback.
• Merged Reality: Ganondorf's real plan is to combine the Real World and the Dark Realm.
• Mind Rape: Luigi with his scenes with Decious...
• Mood Whiplash: As mentioned above, the first season was entirely focused on comedy, while becoming serious from Season Two onwards.
• Motive Rant: Happens quite often. A good example is FedEx's confrontation with UPS in Episode 13.

Donkey Kong: Can you guys forgive me? Mario: OF COURSE NOT! Did you think I would just forget about this, Pauline, and the toilet seat!

• Mutual Kill: Nox and the Darkness.
• Mythology Gag: In Season Four, Wario and Mona end up in a relationship. In the Wario Ware games, Mona actually has something for Wario. (It should also be noted Wario's actor Matt and Mona's actor Erin are boyfriend and girlfriend).
• New Years Episode: In which Mario and Luigi celebrate the New Year and Wario is desperate to join them (noting the episode is non canon as a reason to join them) but is left with a hobo.
• Nightmare Sequence: Luigi has two concerning Nox Decious
• Ninja: Though they are very lazy and stupid. But make for a Funny Background Event.
• No Name Given: The "Package Delivery Men" are only known by the company the represent.
• No Pronunciation Guide: Ryu's name because of how Richard always pronounced it Rai-Yu instead of Rie-Yu when he was younger.
  • Justified as a lot of people unfamiliar with Japanese names probably did the same as him, too. Whatever the case, though, it's still interesting to note that he chose to mispronounce it due to thinking the actual pronunciation sounded too lame, according to a forum post he made.
  • By Season 5 it went back to its original pronounciation with Ryu claiming it was pronounced like that the entire time.
• Not Quite Dead: The Darkness TWICE as of Season 4
  • Liquid Snake in Season 4 only to die later.
  • Mario in Act II
• Oh Crap: "I said" courtesy of Max Payne
• The Other Darrin: Donkey Kong has had many people in his costume
  • Even the costume itself has changed in Season 4 (as they didn't actually own the original)
• Overly Long Gag: Mario's Big No after a crazy fan stole his hat.
• Once an Episode:
  • In the first season it was the mailbox and the running up the hill
  • And also, they recently had the Subscribe Voice at the end of the episodes.
• One of Us: It's clear the creators are this. The only evidence we need is Games are Our One Desire.
• The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: The reason Wario killed Nox Decious
• Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Played with. In season three, after Mario's accent vanishes, Luigi notices it and says they're beginning to sound more Irish. Cue Mario denying it... in an Irish Accent.
• Pirates: In The Interactive Adventure and are part of The Darkness's Army in Season Five.
• Please Subscribe to Our Channel: A pretty unique one too as Richard performs a funny voice at the end of every episode (and video for that matter) that goes like this:
  • -> "Please Subscribe, it's free and easy. Just click the Yellow Button and for every time you subscribe to Richalvarez *followed by a witty line or joke*"
• Private Eye Monologue: Max Payne says his out loud, parodied in that Max has one in the games.
• Public Domain Soundtrack: Dance of the Knights from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Ballet is used as Nox Decious' theme.
• Put On a Bus / Written in Absence: Happens quite a bit.
  • Waluigi has this happen when Waluigi gives the others his powers and falls into a coma, thanks to the actor living quite far away. He then returns in Season 5 only for him to overstrain himself and become stuck in and out of consciousness.
  • Brock, played by Austin, has the same problem but managed to come back for Season 4 and 5.
  • Peach and Walgina had this happen for a different reason--they've since broken up with the main actors.
  • Link as claimed by Ganon in Season 5 got trapped in the dark realm by him.
• Rage Against the Mentor: Mario to Merlin on Link's death
• Refugee From TV Land: The reason Mario and Luigi first come to the Real World is for a vacation.
• Real Life Writes the Plot: Also happens quite a bit.
  • Brock's actor moving to San Francisco.
  • Doug's (Waluigi) trip to Australia.
  • Peach's actress was Richard's (now ex) girlfriend, and Walgina's actress (also ex) was Doug's. Mona's actress is also Matt's (Wario) girlfriend.
• Rule of Funny: Why Ganondorf's voice (done by Matt) is so ridiculous and Hammy.
  • But is no longer as serious as he is now Season Five's main villain.
• Running Gag: Plenty.

  • DK chases the Wario Bros.

As Wario like Liquid was actually Master Miller and him tricking Snake into activating the Nether Saber is like Liquid tricking Snake into activating Metal Gear Rex.

• The Other Darrin: DK has been played by many actors within the suit and is made more hilarious when they changed the suit (as the original wasn't owned by the filmmakers).
  • Bowser is replaced for Season 5 by Austin (Brock).

• Throwing Your Sword Always Works: during Wario's battle with the Darkness in The Movie, Wario pretends to be dead and hurls his Beam Saber through the Darkness' gut, which seemingly kills him. However, as Waluigi failed to bestow a counter-curse upon Wario before his prolonged absence, the Darknessis still immortal and gets back up later on.

Darkness: Gee, that stung!

• Toilet Humour: Quite a bit. While Justified by the source material (as Wario has a fart attack), it is disliked by several fans. This caused a funny Take That by Julian (Snake) over the forums:

If you guys hate toilet humor, then you're going to hate the next episode when I eat poop and smear it on my face while throwing it at Mario's face and then swimming in a diarrhea fountain.

• Took a Level In Badass: Mario in "The Interactive Adventure." He then Lampshades this.

Mario: Hmm. I can't believe I just did that. I'm supposed to be a fun loving video game character. Oh well!.

• Training From Hell: Link makes the Mario Bros. endure rigorous training in order to be ready to fight Nox Decious
  • Subverted in that it amounts to them playing Super Smash Bros, but Mario and Luigi react as if the trope were played straight.

  • Link was originally played by someone else (the voice at the end of Season 1) but he was unavailable for Season 2.
  • Christian (Ryu) could've played Kid Icarus in Season 2
  • Julian (Snake) was a big fan of Resident Evil 4 and wanted to be Leon in the show.
  • Dane was given the option of playing Ness or Ash. He chose Ash cause he loved Pokémon. Too bad it didn't last.
  • Richard (Mario and co-creator) during Season 1 almost wrote several episodes that took place before Mario's very first trip to the Mushroom Kingdom, where he was a normal teenager working part time at a plumbing company, and where Merlin opens the portal to the Mushroom Kingdom and gives him his hat. However he and Chris (Luigi and co-creator) decided that is was too much backstory for a comedy show.

• Woman Scorned: Pauline but she doesn't really target Mario or try to kill him. But she still blames him for it all.
• Word of Saint Paul: Kevin Chamberlain (Yoshi) owns a youtube account here where he often does a series called History of Stupid Mario Brothers (inspired by Linkara's History of Power Rangers) which shows his own opinion on the show and confirms several things in real life that Richie hasn't.

  • The creators and actors tend to go on the Fan Forums to answer fan's questions. A fan should be warned they don't go on as much as they used to, although Season 4 has already contained characters suggested by fans and now fans are bombarding them with villains for Season 5.
