McCree: Train Hopper

Junkrat & Roadhog: Going Legit

  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Averted in universe, according to Junkrat though, he assumed that the business guy that hired them, is one of the suits that isn't too bad.
    • Played Straight, it turned out that the suit set them up to destroyed the building, there's no hostages, probably frame them for "tearing the place up", and worst, the suit won't pay Junkrat and Roadhog their due.
  • Eureka Moment: When Junkrat after finding a piece of debris with the company's insignia, he wonders why did the business guy sent them on a wild goose chase and whacking his company's drone bots?.

"The suit didn't set us up. He's an honest businessman...Socially sensible...Roight. And he's a Suit."

  • Frame-Up:It turns out that the suit was intending to frame them.
  • Hostage Situation: Some of a businessman's employees are held hostage by some Omnics.
    • Turns out that it was just all a lie, there were no hostages, in fact there's not a soul in the skyscrapers that the two Junkers demolished.
  • Punch Clock Heroes: A businessman hired both Junkrat and Roadhog to save his employees, of course with payment, and if the two can be "hush, hush" about this mission.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Both Junkrat and Roadhog were concentrating so much on blowing stuff up, that most of the comic consist of this.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In universe example, Mainly Junkrat, he forgotten that both he and his bodyguard were hired to rescue the hostages.

  • Dramatic Unmask: After punching Reaper's face, the mask broke, and Ana saw what her former friend now looks like.

Tracer: Reflections

  • Banned in China: "Reflections" was banned in China, due to a lesbian kiss.
    • Ditto with super conservative and religious countries, like Russia and the Middle East. The comic is banned unless there's some modifications.
  • The Cameo: A theater was shown having an advertising poster about Lúcio Santos doing a holiday concert.
    • Various characters are shown celebrating the holidays (or lack their of) with their family and friends:
      • Sam, Ana Amari's husband and father to Fareeha/Pharah, had Christmas dinner with his daughter.
      • Roadhog and Junkrat decided to go on a "joy ride" on a hover car.
      • Sombra and McCree are in a bar, being sober or be downright drunk.
      • Once Ana reunited with Jack in Egypt, spend their Christmas there.
      • Reinhardt and the Lindholms had a traditional family Christmas.
      • In a hill top monastery, Zenyatta and Genji did their holidays there.
  • Christmas Episode
  • Dreaming of a White Christmas: Some of the countries depicted, like Canada, France, India
  • Grave Marking Scene: Widowmaker spends her Christmases visiting Gérard Lacroix, her late husband,'s grave.
  • Precious Photo: Turns out that Winston has a photo of him and his namesake, who he misses terribly.
  • You Are Not Alone: Winston thought that we will be spending Christmas, until Lena and Emily manage to show up.

Overwatch: Binary

  • Interrupted Intimacy: An adventurous couple had their date in a creepy forest interrupted by both Ganymede and Bastion.
  • Non-Idle Rich: The City Hall politician decided on his own to go and help Torby, despite being told to stay in the city.

"I'm here to make sure the job is done by the book."

Overwatch: Uprising

  • Training Montage: There's a small one, where both Genji and Tracer are both training in the Overwatch Training and Evaluation area.
  • Training From Hell: It's probably this to Lena Cox, since the Overwatch scientists and Dr. Zeigler are just monitoring her, just to see if something happens.
"Unfortunately, we don't know too much about her condition."

  • The Cameo: Alejandra from the "Heroes" short appears in the comic.
  • Enemy Mine: Most of the comic is this to Zarya, teaming up with Lynx Seventeen.

The Return of Junkenstein

  • Blood Oath: Now it's been revealed that Dr. J agreed to signed a blood pact in the previous issue with the Witch of the Wilds.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Behind Castle Adlersbrunn, thunder and lightning streaks across the sky.
  • Evil Overlooker: The ending page had the Witch of the Wilds, being this.
  • Sequel Episode: The Return of Junkenstein continues were the Junkenstein comic left off.
  • The Narrator: Reinhardt, once more.
  • Undying Loyalty/Pet the Dog: Though an evil version of these tropes, the Witch of the Wilds does not abandon her servants, if she can see some use for them or if they serve her well.

Overwatch: Yeti Hunt

  • Caught in a Snare: The yeti didn't see one of Zhou's yeti traps, backs up to it, and got his foot caught.
  • Chase Scene: The cover art has the Yeti chasing after both Mei and Snowball.
  • Chibi: Unlike the other comics that comes before and after "Yeti Hunti", the art style is primarily this.
  • Countdown Sequence: After going into Cryo-freeze, Mei keeps an eye on both the yetis and the countdown clock, since the protective ice cacoon will break when it reaches its' limits.
  • Cryo-Freeze: Mei activates this to protect herself from the yetis.
  • Distracted By the Shiny: After freeing his foot from the trap, the yeti was distracted by it and was examining the yeti trap. It gave Mei enough time to emerge from her ice cacoon and freeze her opponent.
  • Look Behind You!: Snowball was bleeping and flying around Mei like crazy trying to warn her to look behind, because there's a yeti or two behind her.
  • Mighty Roar: A yeti does this, telling Mei-Ling Zhou what Snowball was bleeping about.
  • No-Dialogue Episode: There's no talking at all, unless one considers electronic bleeps, animal roars, and other sound effects as dialogues.
  • Yeti Trap: Mei sets one up and even has some bait for yeti.

Short Stories

Overwatch: Bastet

  • Amnesia Episode: It was explained that Ana got amnesia earlier, due to her encounter with Widowmaker, and it explained why the Overwatch founder was presumed dead internationally.
  • The Comically Serious: This is the reason why Jack Morrison keeps the photo when the three of them were younger.

Ana:"We look so serious in this picture - It's funny!"

Jack: "That's why it's a great photo!"

  • Happily Married: Turns out that Vincent is now happily married to a nameless gay man.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Jack Morrison mention that he can never give Vincent the life he dream about, so he let Vincent go.
  • Precious Photo: Jack Morrison carries two, One that has him, Ana, and Gabe when they were younger. The other of just him and Vincent.
  • Sequel Episode: "Overwatch: Bastet" takes place after "Ana: Old Soldier" and "Ana: Legacy."
  • Shirtless Scene: Some of the short story's illustrations have a scarred, shirtless, and unmask Jack Morrison.
  • Waking Up Elsewhere: This happened to Ana, she wakes up in a hospital. Long after her encounter with Widowmaker.

Overwatch: What You Left Behind

Overwatch: Valkyrie

  • Ascended Extra: The nameless girl from the "We Are Overwatch" trailer that Dr.Zeigler came to rescue has a bit of a more role.
    • Also, her name was reveal to be "Hanan."
  • The Atoner: The main reasons why Angela was in these aid camps, including Egypt's, was because of her own guilt and her Overwatch endevours. - And by extension, the WHOLE Overwatch organization. Which she sees that she must do all she can to mend the damages.

"Overwatch was responsible for much of the country [Egypt]'s suffering, and I needed to help repair it."

  • The Cameo: Sorjourn, one of the high ranking Overwatch agents, was mention.
  • First Person Perspective|The Narrator: Angela, herself narrates this.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Due to Overwatch's past political and militaristic hijinks and scandals, in some places, Dr. Angela Zeigler doesn't get a warm welcome with some people and some countries. The latter sees her alter-ego, Mercy more of a "Angel of Death" than the benevolent angels from various religions.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Dr. Zeigler and some of the Overwatch scientists are seen wearing labcoats.
  • Refusal of the Call: Zeigler doesn't want to take Jack Morrison's re-join Overwatch offer, despite that she will be the head of medical research. Due to what happened with Overwatch a decade ago.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids: Ana's don't judge answer to Angela when the blonde asks her why on earth is she tagging along with Morrison's revenge quest.

  • Naive Newcomer: Dr. Zeigler remembered the first time that she enlisted in Overwatch, complete with a happy, idealistic, and "I'm gonna save da day" attitude. By the short story's current events, she's not that sure that she can be THAT optimistic again.
  • No Name Given: The first names of Angela's parents.
    • It was like this even before the short story came out.
  • No One Should Survive That: Jack Morrison and Ana Amari's calling cards are "I am a member of the "No One Should Survive That"" club, since they usually come out of situations that would've killed normal soldiers.
    • Well, Angela, Hanan, and her brothers survived when a building cave in and crumbled due to the bombs and raid.
  • Walking the Earth: Angela was traveling and working in aid camps, moving betwixt Poland, South Korea, and Venezuela.
    • Even acknowledges Reinhardt's "road trip" in Europe, bringing Brigitte in tow.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: After all that has happened, and when Dr. Zeigler saw Hanan spreading her arms like wings, the Swiss now knows that her battles was not over. So, Angela decided to accept joining Overwatch again.

Trailers, Teasers, and Animated Shorts

"Overwatch Cinematic Trailer"

  • Adult Fear: Two kids that are doing what they can to avoid being injured/killed in a crossfire between a terrorist group vs. ex-Overwatch members, this alone would have put fear in parents' minds. Also, Timmy and Brain could've ended up shot or held hostage.
  • Chekhov's Exhibit: The whole museum was this, the bonus was that even Talon was trying to steal Doomfist's gantlet from the display case.
  • The Cameo: The museum security guard is playing Heartstone, one of Blizzard's other popular games.
    • The trailer ends with the Overwatch backdrop of the heroes, most of which aren't added yet in the suppplimantary material (i.e. comics, art books, and etc.) or in the game itself, like Wilhelm Rinehardt, Lúcio, Echo, though an old version of her, and Wildebeest.
  • Sniper Scope Sway: Sometimes the camera also peers down Widowmaker's sniper scope.
  • Super Window Jump: Since Winston was fighting Talon agents he was the first to break the museum's skylight.
  • Surveillance Station Slacker: The museum guard somehow did not notice Talon and ex-Overwatch agents battling it out and two kids trying to avoid the crossfire.

"Are You With Us?"

  • Adjusting Your Glasses: During one of his takes, Winston adjusts his glasses by using his right hand.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: It looks as though Winston is addressing the viewer to answer his recall, instead of making a video message to call scattered former Overwatch agents, like Tracer, Mei, and Reinhardt, to regroup and resurrect Overwatch.
  • The Cameos: Mercy, Reaper, Widowmaker, Roadhog, Reinhardt, and Zarya makes an appearances. Just to name a few.
  • Hilarious Outtakes: The genetically enhanced gorilla made some of these, since he has some trouble finding the right wording and tone for his speech, the camera was filming his set up, and he was doing some last minute adjusting.

  • Cool Chair: Winston has this in his lab and reclines in it to watch the news.
  • Flashback: Some of "Recall"'s segments are Winston's flashbacks about when he was a baby and with his former friend, Dr. Harold Winston.

  • Cherry Blossoms: Genji's "We are harmony" segment has him sitting under a cherry blossom tree, that has its flowers in full bloom. Very meaningful, considering that his story is mostly about change.

  • One-Hit Polykill: Widowmaker's bullet when through Tracer and didn't kill her because of her Chronal Accelerator, but the bullet went and found it's true mark: Tekhartha Mondatta.

"Dragons"

  • Full-Moon Silhouette: At a distant pagoda, when Genji stood on top of it, his silhouette can be seen due to the full moon.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: The guards to the Shimada family home didn't notice their friends/co-works are disappearing, until it was too late.
  • Honor Before Reason: This was the reason why the Northern Dragon killed his brother, the Southern Dragon, he was seeking honor.
  • Impromptu Tracheotomy: Genji uses his katana to do this to Hanzo, while talking about Hanzo's "brother."

"You think you honor your brother, Genji, with incense offerings? Honor resides in one's actions."

"Infiltration"

"Hero"

  • Decoy Protagonist: The short "Hero", most of it focuses on Alejandra instead of Soldier 76.
  • Diving Save: Soldier 76 dives in to prevent a grenade from going off, when the smoke clears, it's shown that he protected Alejandra.

  • Slippery Slope Fallacy: A gang was trying to pressure Alejandra into beating up a badly injured Omnic to death.

"Ana Origin Story"

  • The Narrator: Lena Cox talks about how her first mission went.

  • The Narrator: Sombra tells how she went from orphan to hacker extraordinaire.

  • Playful Hackers: Sombra ain't the only small kid who learned how to hack computers, there are others, though they didn't get as far as her.

"The Last Bastion"

"Moira Origin Story"

  • Cameo: Reaper, Maximilian, and some very prominent guys that would later on be connected to Talon or part of Talon's inner circle higher ups are shown briefly.
  • Corrupt Bureaucrat: Sanjay was seen with other Talon members, like Doomfist and Reaper. Cementing his true intentions that he supports the terrorist group or worst, is an ambassador representing Vishkar Corporation, who loves Talon.
  • The Narrator: Moira O'Deorain
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Sanjay may not be a Corrupt Corporate Executive, but he's one of Vishkar Corporation's top bureaucrat and one of the top ranking Talon members.

"Overwatch Retribution Cinematics"

  • Destination Defenestration: Reyes shot Antonio across the room, into the nearest window, and killed him.
  • The Narrator: Gabriel Reyes tells how the Retribution mission went through his own POV.

"Honor and Glory"

  • Flash Back: Most of the episode was about Reinhart remembering the battle of Eicherwalde.
  • Last Stand]]: Balderich did one last epic fight against the Omnics.
  • Origin Story: "Honor and Glory" is primarily about Reinhardt Wihelm's early days and origins.
  • Nick of Time: Reinhardt saves the struggling German army, at the nick of time as the OR14 Omnics were about to make them into Swiss Cheese.
  • Trope: In a strange way, when Reinhardt mentions his teammates are slowing him down and doesn't protect them. The writers references what some gamers do and their mindset in typical matches, especially competitive.

"Where's Reinhardt?

Doomfist "Origin Story"

  • Are These Wires Important?: Doomfist yanks parts of Tracer's Chrono Accelerator to stop her from zipping and firing around him.
  • Flash Back: Parts of the trailer goes back to a time when Akande Ogundimu got arrested.
  • The Narrator: Doomfist.
  • Origin Story
  • Punch the Walls: Banging on the wall, Doomfist did this to escape from jail.
  • Punch Parry: Both Winston and Akande do this.
  • The Stinger: After all those months, Doomfist manages to weaken the prison wall enough to make an actual hole and escape.
  • Wall Crawl: Genji does this to get good footing to throw ninja stars and concocts his next plans on attacking the Talon leader.

"Brigitte Origin Story"

"Junkertown: The Plan"

"I got an idea!!!

  • Explosion Propulsion: Part of their escape plan, running away as the bomb explodes in the Queen's HQ.
  • Getting the Boot: The Queen's minions threw both Junkrat and Roadhog out Junkertown.
  • Imagine Spots: The imagine sequences as the plan was being discussed.
  • Locked Door: Mainly the Junkertown chained up gate. They added more security when Junkrat and Roadhog's covers were blown.
  • Noodle Incident: What happened earlier and off screen, mainly stealing the Junkertown Queen's cash, blowing up her summer shack, and the big brawl at the bar.
  • Open Says Me: This was Junkrat's plan...Involving money and explosives though.
  • Outrun the Fireball: While Junkrat's imagine sequences of the plan, it usually ends up with them running away from the explosion from the Queen's HQ.
  • Paper Thin Disguise: Mainly Junkrat's idea of "inconspicious disguises" are masks, which doesn't disguise their recognizable tattoos and peg leg.
  • Travel Montage: The title card also shows silhouettes of both Junkrat and Roadhog doing international crime sprees to gather supplies for the big plan.
  • Trojan Payload: The payload that Junkrat and Roadhog build that's loaded with money and one kawaii plushie serves as this purpose.
  • The Unmasking: After when Junkrat blabbers in a loud voice of who they are once they were about to launch their plan to action. The Queen's goons barricaded the gate even more.
  • Walking the Earth: The beginning of the short, shows Jameson and Mako did an international crime spree.
  • Zany Scheme: Junkrat's plotting on how to steal The Queen's jewels, involved disguises, explosions, and Roadhog not messing up.

"Rise and Shine"

  • Apocalyptic Log: The trailer starts with Mei making such a vlog, mentioning how the Antarctic Ecopoint crew are in a middle of a crazy ice storm, with low rations and supplies, complete with missing their resupply window. Averted, since Zhou survived.
  • Big No: Uttered by Mei when she realized that nine years had passed, while they were asleep.
  • Call Back: Mei got a signal and managed to watch Winston's recall video, which is the Overwatch short "Recall".
  • The Cameos: One of the computers has a photo wallpaper of the whole Antarctic Ecopoint crew together and posing for the picture.
  • Catching Some Zs: While sleeping, Snowball's screen displays the "Z-Z-Z-Z-Z."
  • Crossing the Antarctic: At the short's end, Mei gathered up the last remaining supplies, what's left of the food, and Snowball and trekked across the huge continent of Antarctic just to return back to civilization.
  • Cryonics Failure: Eco-Point's cyropods all failed and killed the Overwatch scientist, save Mei's.
  • Distress Signal: Though it's very weak, Mei and Snowball realized that someone broadcasting from the Overwatch Emergency Frequency must know they're there.
  • Funny Background Event: One of the scientists can be heard shouting at Snowball to return his socks.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Mei wiping away the condensation from one of the cryopods, resulted in her gasping, and it's left to the imagination of how decomposing one of her friends are in.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Snowball flew to a nearby generator, to charge up the computers. Doing this drained his battries.
    • Averted greatly. Since Mei charged Snowball off screen and he can be seen in her backpack.

"Rise and Shine, Snowball. We're on our way."

  • I Can't Do This by Myself: Mei realizing that she IS the only survivor and must get the scientific data back to civilization. Utters a variation of this trope.
  • Just in Time: The cryopods slowly malfunctioning went from one scientist to the next, until Mei's the last one. If the weak signal didn't awaken the last sixth pod, Mei would've been a goner as well.
  • Justified Title
  • Shrine to the Fallen: Before leaving, Mei made mugs of coffee for her late fellow scientists and set them before the cryopods. Basically her and Snowball's final farewell to them.
  • Morning Routine: When Mei awoke from her slumber, she began her morning routine, brushing teeth, preparing breakfast, and making coffee for the rest of her co-workers.
  • Send in the Search Team]]: Averted. Overwatch didn't come to pick up the ecopoint crew.
  • Time Passes Montage: Some time passes by as she builds her Endothermic Blaster...And stacking up empty cups of ramen.
  • Time Skip: Nine years later, Mei-Ling Zhou wakes up to find Overwatch disbanded, Blackwatch's existence, the world thinking that her Eco-Point group is dead, and realizing that her friends/co-workers are dead.

"Wrecking Ball Origin Story"

  • Meaningful Background Event: Though Hammond wasn't attack while he was building his escape pod, the gorillas are currently overthrowing the Lunar Horizon Colony.
  • The Narrator: Dr. Harold Winston narrates this vid and puts his thoughts and feelings about Hammond.
  • Origin Story

"Shooting Star"

  • The Cameo: D.Va's Mobile Exo-Force teammates make cameos in her flashback montage.
    • They're Jae-eun Kwon/ Casino, Yuna Lee/D.Mon, Kyung-sooo Hann/King, and Seung-hwa Shi/Overlord.
  • Flashback Cut: Hana Song had a flashback about fighting the Gwishin.
  • Soft Water: Despite causing her MEKA suit to self-distruct, Hana fell into the ocean below with little injury.

"Trace & Bake"

Reaper: "Are you kidding me?!"

"Reunion"

  • Abandoned Area: The Route 66 Corkey-ish's restaurant is empty, not even the cook is around...Save for McCree and a fly.
  • Bound and Gagged: Jesse McCree tied up both Elizabeth and her Omnic butler buddy to the payload.
  • The Cameo: Echo makes her first appearance.
  • Curse Cut Short: Ashe was about to utter an "Oh Crap" curse, during when some mid air grenades, but McCree shooting them cut her curse short.
  • Food Porn: The delicious apple pie that Jesse is eating appears too suspiciously real to the audience, despite the latter knowing it's just CGI.
  • How We Got Here: The whole trailer also explained how the Route 66 map came to be, like the derailed train's position and how it got cut to pieces.
  • I'll Kill You!: Ashe then threatens McCree (Albeit it's unknown if she and B.O.B. WILL be able to carry out these threats, considering that they haven't caught the former Deadlock.)

Ashe:"...I will not be ignored, I'm gonna rebuild B.O.B. and I'm going to have him rip off your orther arm!"

Hero Stole My Motorcycle: "Reunion" ended with Jesse McCree driving off with Ashe's bike.

Echo(Seeing his robot arm for the first time): "What happened?"

McCree:"Well, that's a story for another time."

  • Justified Title
  • Nice to the Restaurant: Before Jesse McCree exited the restaurant, he left some change on the table.
  • No Hard Feelings: After McCree defeated the Deadlock Gang (again) and ties up both Ashe and B.O.B. on the payload, he then apologizes to a decapitated B.O.B. and straighten the Omnic's hat.

"Sorry about that B.O.B., no hard feelings."

  • Putting the Band Back Together: Jesse McCree then tells Echo that he's doing this.
  • Quieter Than Silence: For a brief moment, the Deadlock Gang and McCree did a stare down, it was so quiet that a tumbleweed rolled by between them.
  • Sniper Scope Sway: One of the Deadlock Gang members's sniper also shows things from his POV as he stares down his scope, attempting to get a steady hand, and trying to aim at McCree.
  • The Stinger: Jesse opened up the compartment, revealing Echo.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The Deadlock Gang began this trailer by making a bridge go "Ka-Boom!"-y.
    • The whole trailer involves some explosions here and there.

"Reunion: After Credits"

Ashe: "That's my bike, McCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

"Cookiewatch"

  • Alternate Selves: Both action figures of Overwatch agents and Talon criminals are BBFs in these stop motion animation shorts, unlike in the actual lore.
  • Alternate Universe: The Overwatch team that made the short confirmed that both "Cookiewatch" and "Trace and Bake" take place in a different reality from the main lore.
  • Animation Bump: Added more touches into "Cookiewatch" compare to "Trace and Bake", like Reaper's Wraiting powers and shooting and Tracer's "Recall", just to name a few.
  • The Cameo: One of the framed pictures in the short has Jeff Kaplan.
    • Many of the Overwatch merch, like the Snowball and pachimachi plushes, makes an appearances as props for the Christmas prepared living room.
    • The gift that Santa left is a green box which is tied with a red bow, a shout out to the how Tracer wrap Emily's gift in the "Tracer: Reflections" comic.
  • Dynamic Entry: Doomfist does this, dramatically pops out of the present, and using his "Meteor Strike" to destroy the cookie plate.
  • Homemade Sweaters From Hell: Good news, Santa gave both Doomfist and Tracer these sweaters. Bad news, he mixed them up, so Doomy got a tiny one and Tracer has a huge one.
  • Justified Trope
  • Leaving Food for Santa: The whole episode kicks off with the humans leaving cookies and milk for Santa Claus and going to bed on Christmas Eve.
  • Living Action Figures
  • Start of Darkness: A milder case, with action figure! Reaper's becoming naughty was because Santa didn't visit his house.
