Tumblrfort

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Tumblrfort is a Tumblr RPG based on Team Fortress 2. The 'gameplay' takes place over several bases and locales including 2Fort, Coldfront, Moutainlab, Fastlane, Sawmill, and Dust Bowl, though the cast can interact inter-base via teleporter, train, and correspondence. It's known for being a fairly close knit, yet somewhat drama prone, group.

Tropes used in Tumblrfort include:
  • Abusive Parents: J.D., hooboy.
    • Krimhilde.
  • A Father to His Men: Walter, especially since the 'Snow In' event.
  • Anachronism Stew: The roleplay take place in the late 60s, but "fudging" of the time period is fairly common.
  • Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better: Wren, and claims much more when inebriated.
  • Affably Evil: The Agents of the 'Static' event seem like an interesting (and in the case of Tri and Pyat, even loveable) bunch. Too bad they're out to kidnap, torture, and murder.
  • Agent Peacock: Hilderich in spades. He’s even associated with peacocks.
  • Agony of the Feet: Self-imposed by Karl as a form of self-punishment. (He gave his word to Aldous that he'd stop.)
  • Anger Born of Worry: Most of the tsundere characters have this trait in tumblrfort - Ellie and Tess included.
  • Animal Motifs: Several charas are associated with different animals and birds (J.D.- Eagle, Aldous- Goat, Hilderich- Peacock, Karl- Swan, just to name a few)
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: A mutual one- this was how Abel and J.D. professed their feelings for one another.
  • Artificial Limbs: In addition to the Engineers with Gunslingers, Alexei has a truly badass robot arm to replace the one he lost to frostbite.
    • Jerry has three prosthetic fingers.
    • Faris is one of the generic Gunslinger Engineers.
    • Jason has an entire robotic arm.
  • Asexual: Some characters are. Although anons tend to dislike this.
  • Attempted Rape: Has happened to many character in the community.
  • Australian Accent: The snipers, Lucian the RED medic.
  • Badass Bookworm: Several of the more literate characters. Markov stands out due to his Ph D and his several hundred books.
  • Badass Family: The Haswell twins and all of their adopted children.
  • Badass Gay: Especially for a time period when gays were under a lot of derision.
  • Badass Grandpa: The Haswell twins, Karl
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Spies.
  • Bald of Awesome: Several of the Heavies.
  • Battle Couple: Most, or all couples in the game, given the setting.
  • Berserk Button: NEVER mention to Maurice that you've harmed a child or call Abel a monster.
    • Never harm anyone Ming loves.
    • Never make Cole angry.
    • Never EVER call J.D. a civilian or otherwise infer that he's not a real Soldier.
    • Speaking Russian in front of Diethelm is a one way ticket to hell.
    • Let's just shorten the list and say that there's a lot of things that can piss the mercs off.
    • Spycrab Marcel has a soft spot for kids, and heaven help you if you've hurt one of any species.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Everyone is a mercenary after all. No matter how nice they look or act.
  • Big Badass Bird of Prey: Dain, Dom's hawk.
    • Runi, Kar's hawk.
    • Dinah, Yiv's hawk.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Katya.
  • Big Fun: A lot of the Heavies, if they’re in a good mood.
    • Wren can be fun when she's acting childish.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Dell towards most of his female friends, but especially Hotaru.
    • Rojo, to Atticus.
    • The spycrabs: Anatole towards both Destan and Marcel.
    • JJ with Miles or Adam.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Allison can come off as this, though there's a hidden reason for her behavior.
    • Many of the Scouts act this way as well.
  • Break the Cutie: Recent plot developments seem to be determined to do this to Tess.
  • Brilliant but Lazy: Well, not so much lazy as psychotic, but Aldous has almost a miraculous talent for healing- you'd never know, though, because he rarely uses it.
    • Mstislav keeps his knowledge to himself in order to avoid trouble altogether (which includes keeping his mouth shut in any case).
  • Broken Bird: Tess is a borderline case, her past as a juvenile delinquent contributing to her current cynical attitude.
    • Hotaru's abusive childhood has led her to expect the worst of people and to her paranoid, withdrawn personality.
  • Buffy-Speak: Louis, the BLU medic uses this when trying to explain things, or when she's trying to be deliberately vague. Her clone does too, to a lesser extent.
  • Bunny Ears Lawyer: Kar. She's an extremely competent Sniper, she just goofs off a lot.
    • Nikki also is a much more competent doctor than his naive and childish demeanor would suggest.
    • Louis, the BLU medic. Though she's often engaging in shenanigans, she still manages to show she knows what she's doing when needed.
  • Butch Lesbian: Brighton, to an extent.
  • Childhood Friends: Leroy and Tess, the Little Shits from Southie.
  • Clone Degeneration: Poor, poor Yivon.
    • Inverted with Alois, who infected himself with a virus made from Diethelm's DNA to give himself vampirism, thus avoiding the inevitable degeneration.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: A lot of the characters, particularly the scouts.
  • Combat Medic: Some medics are this.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: Brighton. Boy howdy.
  • Combat Tentacles: The Tentas.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Candice thinks your pain is funny.
  • Complete Monster: Maurice when The Monster takes control.
    • JJ under the control of extreme rage or Sally (Shovel).
    • Rojo when he reverts to his old self.
    • Brighton under normal conditions.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: A few characters are this.
  • Cool Uncle: Aldous and/or Abel. YMMV.
  • Crossover: Happens occasionally with other Tumblr RP communities- within Tumblrfort itself, there’s Kar, a Mandalorian Sniper.
  • Cry Cute: Candice.
  • Cultured Warrior: Several examples. Spies usually fit into this group.
    • Markov is joining the group as well.
    • Mstislav tends to fit in this group.
    • So does JJ.
  • Cute Bruiser: Short, adorable Tess has got one mean left hook.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Fyura.
    • Miriam Treble the Tentaspy.
    • Allison, given her recent mutations.
    • YMMV on the hybrids in general, but Jax is certainly a Cute Monster Boy.
  • The Cutie: Nikki.
  • Dandere: Hotaru is withdrawn and speaks little even with her friends, but start talking about ghosts and try to get her to shut up.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Nearly everyone.
  • Death Is Cheap: Due to respawn chip technology, almost everyone has "died" at least once, but few stay dead. There are, of course, exceptions.
  • Demonic Possession: Demons tend to enjoy messing with Rojo by stealing his body.
  • Depraved Bisexual: FIACRE.
  • Despair Event Horizon: There is a lot of this.
  • Dirty Old Man: There are a lot of these in Tumblrfort.
  • Dr. Jerk: Aldous, and a few other Medics as well. Krimhilde is definitely one.
  • Driven to Suicide: RED demolition’s woman Enda Mc Loughlin.
  • Eagle Land: Most of the Soldiers fall into Type 1.
  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Many of the characters who have a hard time speaking English.
  • Emotionless Girl: Hotaru tries to pass herself off as this.
  • Erudite Stoner: Willie. It's best just to assume she's stoned unless informed otherwise.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Maurice only kills pedophiles and kidnappers when The Monster isn't in control. When it is, it doesn't matter who the target becomes.
    • Krimhilde resists killing those who cannot respawn (and who have kissed up properly).
    • JJ mostly kills when he's enraged or under the influence of Sally, causing him to kill anything that's in front of him, when not enraged or under the influence of Sally, he just pulls pranks.
    • Rojo doesn't want to kill anyone. He only does so if he's too angry to control his pyrokinesis.
  • Everybody Smokes
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Aldous’ one on his eye, given to him by Hilderich as revenge for giving Markov his two scars.
    • Jerry has a mass of scarring on his throat.
    • Diethelm has a swastika carved into his chest, over his heart from when he was a child. His over zealous father gave it to him to usher in his life with the Nazis.
    • Half of Hotaru's body is heavily scarred from becoming caught in the fire while burning down her high school.
    • Pyro Miriam has burn scars of varying sizes, some from fire poi practice mishaps in her youth and others from reckless handling of fire and homemade weaponry later in her adolescence.
    • Several of the mercs at Mountain Lab have acquired new scars due to the animal attacks that occurred near the end of the Snow In event.
  • Evil Redhead: Brighton, no doubt. Also falls under the Fiery Redhead trope, though less so.
  • Fantastic Racism: In addition to instances of regular racism and homophobia, some mercs are prejudiced against hybrids.
  • Everyone Can See It: Tess and Zach started out as just Friends with Benefits, but just about everyone could see their deeper feelings for each other.
  • Evil Twin: Aldous comes across as being Abel's- however he's far deeper than that.
  • Fatal Attraction: Notably Sulo and Mikhail, being on opposite teams and prejudiced against each others country of origin at first.
  • Funetik Aksent: Nearly all the characters.
  • Flirting Under Fire: Happens fairly often, considering the setting.
  • Foe Yay: There are hints of this with Brighton and Tess. Maybe. A little.
    • Most RED/BLU relationships are this due to the nature of the game.
  • Food Porn: The culinary skilled mercs will often post delicious looking meals and desserts. It's enough to make you want to lick your screen.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Leroy and Tess were best friends as children, but didn't remember when they met again as adults. For quite a while they hated each other, till Jean brought their connection to light.
  • Fourth Wall Observer: Some characters often interact with the mods of other characters, or vice versa.
  • Fragile Speedster: Many of the Scouts, naturally.
  • Friendly Enemy: A lot of RED/BLU relationships are like this.
  • Friendly War: All of Tumblrfort could be seen as this; cross-faction relationships, both romantic and platonic, are pretty common.
  • Fun Size: Patch.
    • Also, the bugs.
    • Don’t forget the spycrabs.
  • Gayngst: Walter and Heinrich, so very very much.
  • Gentle Giant: Several of the Heavies.
    • Alexei and Markov stand out.
    • And Mstislav.
    • Elsie is this.
  • Ghost Shipping: Hinted at with Walter and Enda’s ‘spirit’.
    • JJ and Ming. Some people also ship Jacob and JJ.
  • Glorious Mother Russia: Several of the Russians.
  • Good Bad Girl: Tess has a somewhat "slutty" past, but is very loyal once in a relationship.
  • Grandma, What Massive Hotness You Have!: In this case grandpa: The Haswell twins. Remember the foxy grandpa hat?
    • Also Krake, who's much older than he looks.
    • According to Louis, the BLU medic - Diethelm is this, despite the fact that he's only 8 years older than her, but had stopped aging for aforementioned reasons. She occasionally refers to him as "Mr.Foxy Vampire Grandpa."
  • Granola Girl: Willie.
  • German Dialects: Most medics. (Exceptions: Lucian, the RED Australian medic, Louis the BLU medic, RED Medic Krimhilde…)
  • Grave Marking Scene: Walter building markers for Jean and Erika, as well as one for Redford (with Tess to help him). Flint has a notable scene sitting by the grave of his father.
    • And now there's one for Rojo and his good friend Atticus. To be fair, he never had a grave or even received a proper burial, which really bothered him.
  • Green Eyed Red Head: Aiden and Fyura
  • Green Thumb: Alexei. He got a garden to not only grow in the desert, but FLOURISH. He's currently working on growing one in Coldfront of all places (Katya built him a greenhouse).
    • Krimhilde typically grows plants in cellars or her dorm and can keep a large garden in great condition.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: There are quite a few actually. Emmerich says hello.
  • Happily Adopted: Fyura by Aldous.
    • A lot of the younger characters by Abel.
    • Ivan by Ellie.
  • Happily Married: Hilderich and Markov.
    • Aldous and Deltrese are Happily Engaged.
  • Headbutt of Love: Zach and Tess did this a lot.
  • Heroic BSOD: Happens to Nikki upon witnessing Hotaru's suicide by saw blade.
  • Herr Doktor: Most medics on either team.
  • Heterosexual Life Partners: Tavish and J.D. are these, even though J.D. himself is bi.
    • Aldous and Alexei- both are straight with girlfriends, but they are also very devoted and caring towards one another.
    • The spycrabs, more or less.
  • Hidden Depths: Hardly anyone is as uncomplicated as they appear on the surface- Aldous in particular is far from the bloodthirsty monster he appears to be at first glance. Krimhilde really isn't too willing to get in touch with her non-existent sentimental side and will rarely act any other way besides her usual self. When Diethelm gets hurt or sad, he usually covers this up with anger and hatred.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Carlton, but he'd never admit it.
  • Hoarder: FRANCIS
  • Hospital Hottie: Most of the medics.
  • Ho Yay: Oh, yeah.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: 6'4" pyro Gino Matthews and 5'1" pyro Miriam Ko'olau'uhane.
    • 6'2" scout Zach Aaronson and 5'2" scout Tess Mac Namara.
  • Humble Hero: Many mercenaries fit this trope.
  • I Am a Monster: Comes up often both in hybrids and in the regular mercs.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Diethelm had this talk with Friedrich Strauss in reference to Louis, the BLU medic.
    • Dell hinted at this talk with pyro Gino when he started dating pyro Miriam.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Louis, the BLU medic thinks she did this when she walked in on Diethelm performing a ritual to give Etienne wings.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Part of Dell's reasoning for choosing to not pursue his romantic feelings.
  • I'll Be in My Bunk: Occasionally, this happens. (Ask Abel about Karl and a carton of milk.)
  • Important Haircut: Tess attacks her hair with a pair of scissors during a low point after Zach is transferred away and the stress of losing so many loved ones finally gets to her.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Autumn. In a World of murderers, thieves, madmen, and generally not-nice people, Autumn remains ever sweet, kind, and as innocent as someone in 2Fort can be.
  • The Insomniac: Louis, the BLU medic, fits as a type A.
  • Irrational Hatred: There's hate for several classes in character, or people, for no blatant reason.
  • Jerkass Facade: Carlton. Also falls under the Jerk with a Heart of Gold trope to an extent.
    • Tess is a little bit of this as well. Her bitchy demeanor is largely an act.
  • Jerkass Woobie: ALDOUS.
    • Also J.D. at times.
    • JJ most of the times, with people he just met.
    • Tess is an abrasive, hot tempered little shit, prone to flying off the handle at a moments notice and throwing punches... who lost her sister and several other people close to her and survived a snow-in at Mountain Lab that included an avalanche and a nearly fatal wolf attack, all in the span of about six months.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Diethelm, to the people who know him.
    • Spycrab Destan.
    • JJ with the ones he really trusts on.
  • Knife Nut: Many people qualify but Maurice has a nice collection to himself.
    • Rojo won't go anywhere without his knife, and it's the only weapon he'll use.
    • JJ's hunting knife, named Sally, it's always with him, also he has a large collection of knives in the workshop.
  • Lack of Empathy: Candice recognizes your sadness but will not share it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Brighton, of the Hard-Hitting Speedster variety, being a scout. Admittedly, she's not as speedy as most of her class, but she still has the skill in speed necessary, and as a former amateur boxer, she can land a mean blow and take it just as hard.
  • Like a Son to Me: Tess to Walter, though it's more correctly Like a DAUGHTER To Me (Though maybe not, with her new haircut. Bazinga!).
  • Like Brother and Sister: Dell and Hotaru.
    • Vance and Candice.
    • J.D. and Dolly.
    • JJ and Miles.
    • Also Fyura and Autumn.
    • Tess and Leroy.
    • Louis and Alois, despite one being a clone.
    • The spycrabs: Anatole and Destan; and Anatole and Marcel.
    • Rojo and Atticus, Dani, and Berezi.
  • Lethal Chef: J.D., to the point that he's more or less forbidden from cooking.
    • His ribs and barbecue sauce, however, turn out amazingly well.
    • Jason, as he cooks with gunpowder, his cooking sessions are rather 'explosive'.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Sarcasm is just one of the many services Tess freely offers.
  • Love Across Battlelines: Played straight in any RED-BLU relationship.
  • Love to Hate: Several of the more unhinged/cruel characters.
  • Mechanical Limbs: Eli has an ever-so-fashionable pair of steel legs.He isn't amused when people mock them.
  • Medium Awareness: Some charas, in non plot-relevant conversations, will make reference to their players or even converse with other players (or otherwise find ways of straddling the Fourth Wall.)
  • Meet Cute: Autumn and Yiv. (He was hiding under her bed.)
  • Memetic Molester: Kooky. She even CALLS herself the 'Soldier Molester'.
  • Morality Pet / Morality Chain : Alexei is this to Aldous, big time. So is Deltrese.
    • Rojo and Dani, Marcel, and Atticus.
    • Tess is this to Walter, though he's far from a villain.
    • Avery, to an extent, is a morality pet for Brighton. It... Doesn't often do much to hold Brighton back.
  • Morally-Ambiguous Doctorate: Some medics fall into this category.
  • Mother Russia Makes You Strong: Pretty much every Russian character.
  • The Napoleon: "Hot-blooded, aggressive, and short" describes Tess to a T.
  • Naughty Tentacles: Tentas. Averted by a few.
  • Won't Work On Me: Anti-Magic-pills.
  • One of the Boys: Tess is a hardcore tomboy with mostly male friends.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: Lakresha, refering to others by their real name, instead of a nickname.
  • Opposite Gender Clone: Louis with Alois, and Yiv with Yivon.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: JJ as the bad ghost, Jacob as the good one.
    • Rojo seems to be bipolar on whether he's 'good' or 'bad'. The former ties he had with Hell does not help.
    • Enda is neither confirmed nor denied to be a ghost.
    • Hectate is still hanging around Dominik.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Alois, Diethelm, Etienne, and Yivon
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Jason, Tavish
  • Playing with Fire: Rojo.
    • Ming and her fireworks.
    • A lot of Pyros, for obvious reasons.
  • Power of Friendship: This, along with the Power of Love, is pretty much the only thing keeping J.D. from giving into Shovel and becoming a full time antisocial, murderous psychopath.
    • Constantly brings Rojo back from either murderous rage or weepy self-loathing.
  • Precision F-Strike: You know it's just gotten real when Dell starts using the F-word.
  • Pure Magic Being: The Magic Anons. Diethelm had taken up necromancy, and now wields dark magic.
  • Pyromaniac: The Pyros. (And Rojo.)
  • Raised by Grandparents: Louis' grandfather played a much larger role in her early upbringing than either of her parents.
  • Ravens and Crows: Aldous keeps a small unkindness of ravens as pets and is generally kinder to them than most people.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Louis and Alois
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Haswell twins.
  • Rollerblade Good: Tess is a former derby girl and wears skates in battle.
  • Running Gag: Aldous is a dolphin. Hilderich is a peacock. Ming CONSTANTLY getting anonymous deliveries of fried rice (which she doesn't even like). Rojo trying to set someone on fire. Dandi and the 'Tree People'. Allison humping any couch she comes across.
  • Sanity Slippage: Many of the mercenaries at Mountain Lab are experiencing degrees of this.
  • Satisfied Street Rat: Tess spent her teen years running with a gang.
    • Brighton spent the majority of her childhood in Youngstown, Ohio during the years that saw the peak of its gang-related high crimerates. She takes pride in her roots in "Murdertown, USA."
  • Scars Are Forever: Jerry's scarring on his throat from when he was attacked by a dog.
    • The scar on Krimhilde's face from a fight when she was a roaming adolescent.
    • Rojo has scars on his back from his encounter with a Pyro, and there's a giant wound on his forehead where he was killed. He can choose to show it, though.
    • JJ has many scars, one covering his whole arm from a encounter with a Pyro, and some burn scars lines across his face from the curse that fell onto him.
    • Candice's burns scars from her high school shenanigans and the other one.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Spies.
  • Shipper on Deck: Rather Shippers on Deck. Hotaru and Lakresha. Hotaru keeps a chart.
  • Serial Killer Killer: Maurice again, except it's with those who would hurt children; JJ.
  • Slasher Smile: Candice upon getting a revenge kill with her axe.
    • Rojo when he decides it's time to let his anger out.
    • JJ when he considers you're bothering him.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Markov. He’s a novelist and has literally hundreds of books, not to mention the Ph D. Randall can act brash and look stupid, but he loves science-y things.
    • JJ, he may look like the normal mindless Soldier but he has actually almost gotten a medical license.
  • Smoking Is Cool: A good chunk of the characters.
  • The Sociopath: Brighton, though not always apparent; she has spells where the sociopath really bleeds through, though.
    • Candice is one, but it's rather mild, and she's not actively malicious about it.
  • Southies: Several of the Scouts.
  • Southern-Fried Genius: Most of the engineers. Jason.
  • The Speechless: Jerry is mute.
    • As is Ike, who also happens to be albino.
  • Stepford Smiler: Abel, at times. He tries to keep a cheerful mood even when he’s tearing apart inside.
  • Tall, Dark and Snarky: Carlton. He's condescending and he knows it.
  • Team Mom: Abel, to Coldfront in general
  • Teen Genius: Back when Louis, the BLU medic, was a teen she was this; having graduated high school several years early.
    • Willie entered college at the University of Texas at sixteen.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Emmerich. Big time.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Aldous and Gummy Bears (and plums), J.D. and ribs, Abel and cherries, Kooky and apples, Ming and eggrolls, Rojo and chalupas, Candice and bacon, JJ and caramelized apples
  • True Companions: Several close-knit groups of mercs within the game, especially those that have fought together for months or years.
  • Tsundere: Tess, with just about everyone she cares about.
    • Ellie is like this, as well.
    • Nikki is a Type B. His sweet demeanor hides a childish temper among other things.
  • Undying Loyalty: Dolly, to J.D.
    • J.D. himself to Dolly, Tavish, and Abel
    • Tess, to Walter
  • Vampire Bites Suck: Louis, the BLU medic was bitten by Diethelm, she didn't like it as it had sent her to respawn. Inverted with Alois and Yivon, in that Alois was careful in minimizing pain.
  • Viral Transformation: This is how Diethelm's vampirism was passed to Alois.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Nikki and Hotaru are a Type 2 at times.
    • Rojo and Jean.
  • War for Fun and Profit: Most characters are aware of this.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Louis, the BLU medic.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: J.D.'s most defining (and according to him, ONLY) attractive feature- they are very, VERY blue, described as being 'like a cloudless sky on a perfect Fourth of July afternoon'.
    • JJ's eyes are totally grey, with some shiny part that make people think they're a pair of pearls.
    • Etienne's eyes are two tones, consisting of off silver or grey, and golden brown.
    • Rojo's green eyes, when they're not luminescent. If they are, run.
  • When He Smiles: It takes something (or someone) really special to make him do it, but if you can get Aldous to give a genuine, non wicked or sarcastic smile, he looks just as sweet as his twin.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Peter. He even wears dresses into battle when he can get away with it.
  • Wicked Cultured: Karl was a professional ballet dancer back in Stuttgart.
    • Markov and his PHD in Literature.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Several of the male characters have this outlook. Justified as it takes place in the late 60s, though nearly every woman they meet is a mercenary of one form or another and should be capable of giving as good as she gets. Tess in particular will get especially angry if you tell her this.
  • Wrench Wench: Katya, the female Engineers.
  • Yandere: Nikki shows the occasional disturbing hint at being an Obsessive version of this.
    • Spycrab Anatole, at one point.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Elsie the RED Soldier, and Manfried her Pocket Medic husband.
