The protagonist of the first six books, and a major character in all later books. Currently the Leader of ThunderClan. He was originally a kittypet, but was accepted into the Clan after feeling mysteriously drawn to the forest his whole life. His name comes from his fur, which is bright orange. He originally faced prejudice due to his non-Clan heritage, but has long since proven himself a brave and highly capable warrior. Currently, his leadership decisions (in particular, letting more non-Clan cats into ThunderClan, as well as interfering in other Clans' business) are a source of controversy among the Clans. In ''The Last Hope'', {{spoiler|he is revealed as the fourth, and dies fighting Tigerstar.}}

ThunderClan is the main Clan in Warrior Cats. As such, it has the most characters.

Main index can be found here.

The Original Series

Firestar

"Surely it is our struggle against hardship that makes us true warriors. You think fresh blood in the Clans will weaken us? A life without hardship will weaken us more."

The protagonist of the first six books, and a major character in all later books. Currently the Leader of ThunderClan. He was originally a kittypet, but was accepted into the Clan after feeling mysteriously drawn to the forest his whole life. His name comes from his fur, which is bright orange. He originally faced prejudice due to his non-Clan heritage, but has long since proven himself a brave and highly capable warrior. Currently, his leadership decisions (in particular, letting more non-Clan cats into ThunderClan, as well as interfering in other Clans' business) are a source of controversy among the Clans. In The Last Hope, he is revealed as the fourth, and dies fighting Tigerstar.

Graystripe

Firestar's best friend, and former deputy of ThunderClan. Graystripe is a good-natured, easy-going cat who gets along well with everyone. Gets his own big source of drama when he falls in love with the RiverClan warrior Silverstream, and fathers two kits with her. He temporarily joins RiverClan in order to be with them, but his conflicting loyalties eventually lead to his rejoining ThunderClan.

Sandstorm

Firestar's eventual mate, although she initially hated his guts. One of the best hunters in the Clan.

Tigerclaw

The traitorous deputy of ThunderClan, and Firestar's nemesis. For more information, see Warrior Cats

Bluestar

The leader of ThunderClan during most of the first series, and Firestar's mentor. She is highly respected as a wise and powerful leader, even by cats of other Clans. She is tough but fair, and fierce in battle. Her only real problem is her unwavering trust in Tigerclaw, whose betrayal shocks her so deeply that she becomes paranoid and insane, and turns her back on StarClan. She gets better... just before her death. Currently residing in StarClan.

Sunstar: [You have ambition] only to serve your Clan. That is why I chose you. You have suffered much and lost much, and yet you still serve your Clanmates, putting their needs before yours, willing to sacrifice all for the sake of your Clan.

Spottedleaf

ThunderClan's medicine cat when Firestar first joined, she was also his first love. She is killed in a ShadowClan raid before the relationship has much of a chance to go anywhere, but Spottedleaf continues to show up in Firestar's and his descendants' dreams throughout the series. Currently residing in StarClan.

Yellowfang

A former ShadowClan warrior and medicine cat, Yellowfang was exiled by Brokenstar (her illegitimate son) in the first book, and was captured on ThunderClan territory by a young Firepaw. She remains in ThunderClan as a prisoner until Spottedleaf's death. Disgusted at what her birth Clan has become, she agrees to formally join ThunderClan as their medicine cat. Currently resides in StarClan.

Cinderpelt

Firestar's first apprentice, Cinderpelt was hit by a car early in the series, badly breaking and twisting her leg. Because of this, she was unable to become a warrior, and instead trained under Yellowfang as medicine cat. She remains a close friend and confidante of Firestar throughout the series. She is killed during the badger attack, but StarClan reincarnated her as Cinderheart, who is now able to live the life of a warrior that Cinderpelt had to give up.

Cloudtail

Firestar's nephew, who was also born a kittypet. His mother gave him to Firestar to take back to the Clans after hearing how much Firestar liked his life there. Although the Clan was very unhappy about this, they eventually came to accept him. He does not believe in StarClan but is loyal to ThunderClan and utterly devoted to his mate Brightheart.

  • Badass Grandpa: In the later series
  • Blue Eyes
  • Deadpan Snarker: His comments are like barbed wire. Even the narrative lampshades it.
  • Flat Earth Atheist: He has seen accurate predictions of the future, as well as his uncle coming Back from the Dead several times, yet still refuses to believe that there is anything supernatural going on, calling StarClan a "tale to scare kits".
  • Berserk Button: Murder, especially that of cats he was close to. Unfortunately, this anger usually amounts to Firestar telling him to chill.
  • Skeptic No Longer: He sees StarClan for the first time in The Last Hope.

Whitestorm

Bluestar's nephew, and one of the more well-respected warriors in ThunderClan, he remained a good friend to both her and Firestar. He also served as Firestar's first deputy. Currently residing in StarClan.

Dustpelt

Originally one of Tigerclaw's supporters, Dustpelt was horrified when the warrior's treachery was revealed, and refused to follow him any further. Though he has personally never liked Firestar, he nonetheless holds respect for Firestar as a leader and a warrior, and his loyalty to ThunderClan is absolute.

Darkstripe

The most loyal follower of Tigerstar, Darkstripe is disliked by mostly everybody in the Clans, including his leader, due to his deceitful, arrogant nature. Currently residing in the Place Of No Stars.

  • Bathroom Break Out: Tells Brackenfur, who's supposed to be watching him, that he needs to make dirt. He goes behind a bush and sneaks away.
  • Butt Monkey: All the time.

Leopardstar: "Thank StarClan I'm not [your leader]. You're about as much use as a dead fox." (The Darkest Hour)
Hawkfrost: "Though I expected better of you, Darkstripe. I would have thought you could hold your own against an untrained apprentice." (Fading Echoes)
Brokenstar: "He's no better than a whining kit." (Night Whispers)

Snowkit

A kit in A Dangerous Path. He is deaf, which leads him to be carried off by a hawk.

Lionheart

A senior warrior and Graystripe's mentor. Dies in the first book

  • Cool Old Guy: In Into the Wild, he is almost an elder already.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard
  • Secret Keeper: When he was an apprentice, he spotted Pinestar visiting a Twoleg nest. Pinestar asks him to keep it secret, and Lionpaw wonders whether Pinestar will name him Liontrust or Lionloyal because of this.

Brightheart

Cloudtail's mate. She gets mauled by dogs when she joins Swiftpaw in trying to convince Bluestar to make her a warrior during Bluestar's crazy period.

Willowpelt

Mate of Whitestorm (earlier, the mate of Tawnyspots, as confirmed by Word of God)

Longtail

Redtail

Bluestar's deputy at the beginning of Into The Wild. He's the father of Sandstorm.

Thornclaw

Brother of Brightheart, Cinderpelt and Brackenfur, Thornclaw is the first cat Firestar ever named a warrior, which is something he's quite proud of.

The New Prophecy

Brambleclaw

"I don't think I'll ever be free of him. Even now that he's dead, no cat will ever forget that I'm his son."

One of the protagonists of the second series of books, Brambleclaw is the son of Tigerstar, something which causes him a great deal of angst[1]. He is determined to continually prove himself a loyal and virtuous warrior. He was chosen by StarClan to be one of the cats to journey to Midnight and find a new home for the Clans, and currently holds the position of deputy of ThunderClan. Trained in The Place Of No Stars during the events of The New Prophecy In The Last Hope, he becomes Bramblestar.

Squirrelflight

"And I'm sick of you flapping your wings like an injured sparrow, feeling oh so sorry for yourself. You're not the only cat suffering. Your pain isn't the hardest to bear."

Another second series protagonist, and Firestar's daughter. Originally a hot-headed young cat, she has matured into a capable and strong warrior. She goes on the journey with the four chosen cats in the second series, despite not being chosen herself, and during that time develops into Brambleclaw's Love Interest. As of The Last Hope, she is the deputy of ThunderClan.

Leafpool

"It's all right. I'll stay here and take good care of the Clan, I promise. One day we'll meet again, walking among the stars."

Firestar's other daughter, and yet another second series protagonist. Leafpool takes the opposite path her sister does, and becomes ThunderClan's medicine cat. She is described as being her sister's complete opposite, polite and soft-spoken where Squirrelflight is loud and brash.

Ashfur

"I have no quarrel with Brambleclaw. I couldn't care less about Brambleclaw. It's not his fault he fell for a faithless she-cat. I know you think I've never forgiven Brambleclaw for stealing you from me, but you're wrong, and so is every cat that thinks so. My quarrel is with you, Squirrelflight. It always has been."

Squirrelflight's Romantic False Lead in The New Prophecy. When she chooses Brambleclaw, he doesn't take it well. To be more precise, he tries to make her feel the same amount of emotional pain that he felt when she turned him down by killing some of her family members. When that doesn't work out, he tries to publicly humiliate her. Currently residing in StarClan as of Omen of the Stars.

Sorreltail

The kit of Whitestorm and Willowpelt, Sorreltail is a strong warrior who has seen a lot of trauma.

Whitewing

"Remember, I'm your mother. Nothing you say can ever shock me or make me love you less."

The only kit of Cloudtail and Brightheart. Whitewing is a kind and gentle she-cat mated to Birchfall.

Birchfall

The kit of Dustpelt and Ferncloud, as well as Whitewing's mate.

Spiderleg

ThunderClan's resident Jerkass. That's really all there is to say about him, other than how he had a one-night stand with Daisy.

  • Character Development: Somehow avoided. In Sign of the Moon, his praise of Dovewing makes it look like he's turning into a nicer guy, but then in The Forgotten Warrior, his treatment of a newly returned Hollyleaf shows that he's still an asshole.
  • Fauxshadowing: The creepy wind that blows when Firestar announces his warrior name.
  • Jerkass

Era Of The Three (Power of Three/Omen of the Stars)

Lionblaze

"I know what it's like to have a power no other cat understands. It's the loneliest feeling in the world."

A protagonist of the third series, and the brother of Jayfeather and Hollyleaf. He is one of three cats with "the power of the stars", and his special ability is being completely unbeatable in combat.

Hollyleaf

"I can't stay here. I know I did the right thing, but no cat will ever understand!"

Another third series protagonist, and sister of Jayfeather and Lionblaze. She places great importance on the Warrior Code, sometimes to levels other cats consider a bit extreme. After learning the truth of her heritage, that she is the result of an extremely illegal union according to the Warrior Code, she goes a bit crazy. She had last been seen running into a collapsing tunnel, presumed to be dead by her Clan. In The Forgotten Warrior, she was found to be living just outside the territory, and has rejoined the Clan.

Jayfeather

"One day we will be so powerful that we will command StarClan!"

Third series protagonist, and brother of Hollyleaf and Lionblaze. He is blind, and absolutely hates being treated as different or helpless because of it. He is one of three cats with "the power of the stars", his special abilities being able to sense other cat's emotions, and walk in their dreams like StarClan does. Currently ThunderClan's medicine cat.

Dovewing

"Maybe it won't be so bad, having these powers, if I can use them to help my Clan."

Protagonist of the fourth series. Dovewing is the third and final cat with "the power of the stars", with her special ability being extremely acute senses that can easily hear and smell things from miles away.

  • Blessed with Suck: Her powers don't really help in the middle of a battle, or when she's around Twolegs with all the noise they make.
  • Brought Down to Normal: She loses her power sometime in between Sign of the Moon and The Forgotten Warrior for unknown reasons, but gets it back later.
  • The Chosen One
  • Fights Like a Normal: She has powers, but they're actually a hindrance in battle more than anything.
  • Girly Girl: To Ivypool's Tomboy, due to the fact that she is much more romantic and does not like fighting.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal
  • Reincarnation of Dove's Wing
  • Sensory Overload: When she goes to the mountains in Sign of the Moon.
  • Super Senses
  • Unreliable Narrator: In The Last Hope, she hallucinates Firestar walking away unharmed from his battle with Tigerstar.
  • Up to Eleven: In The Last Hope, she puts her powers into overdrive, letting her see the Dark Forest.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: So much that in The Last Hope, she refuses to disclose the identities of the Dark Forest recruits in hope that they turn good.

Ivypool

"I just wanted to be as good as Dovepaw. I wanted to be so good that everyone would notice me, too."

Dovewing's sister, and a fourth series protagonist. She lacks her sister's powers, and is a bit troubled by that, as she wants to be seen as her sister's equal.

Cinderheart

"Tell Leafpool she doesn't need to worry, because I'll be alright this time."

A kit of Brackenfur and Sorreltail. She is the reincarnation of Cinderpelt, who was killed in a badger attack, and is a major ally of the three.

Berrynose

One of Daisy's kits, he is a first-generation Warrior. He's very loyal to the Clan, but is arrogant enough to be thoroughly annoying to some of his Clanmates.

Honeyfern

One of Sorreltail and Brackenfur's kits. She dies saving Briarlight from an adder.

Millie

A former kittypet who gave up her home not because of the enticing Warrior lifestyle, but because of her love for Graystripe. She helped him find his way to the Clans' new home by the lake.

  • Abusive Parents: She neglects, if not outright ignores, Bumblestripe and Blossomfall after Briarlight's accident.
  • Action Girl: Those lessons Graystripe gave her sure helped.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The Graystripe's Adventure manga series, which explains how she met Graystripe.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She shows up just in the nick of time to save Graystripe at the end of The Lost Warrior.
  • Determinator: It took her a while to find Graystripe, but she never gives up. Also, she doesn't let anything get in the way of helping Graystripe find his clan.
  • I Will Find You: Towards Graystripe after he leaves Twolegplace to find ThunderClan.
  • Last Girl Wins
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Of course she could always speak to dogs.
  • Training Montage: Has one when Graystripe teaches her the ways of the clans.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Graystripe

Daisy

A cat who lived in a barn by the lake territory, she and her kits join ThunderClan to avoid being separated by their owners. Although Firestar allows it, many in the Clans aren't happy about this, as Daisy shows no interest in becoming a warrior, to the point of refusing a warrior name when one is offered. She mainly stays in the nursery helping queens raise their kits.

Foxleap

One of Dustpelt and Ferncloud's third litter, Foxleap is the brother of Icecloud. So far he has been a minor character, though he did go on a journey to the Tribe in Sign of the Moon.

Icecloud

One of Dustpelt and Ferncloud's third litter, Icecloud is the sister of Foxleap, and so far has been a minor character.

Briarlight

One of Graystripe and Millie's first litter of kits, she is injured while trying to get a mouse left behind by Mousefur right before a tree fell into the camp, leaving her legs paralyzed.

Blossomfall

Another of Graystripe and Millie's first litter, she is snappish with with other cats, and neglected by her mom after Briarlight's accident. Currently training in The Place Of No Stars.

Bumblestripe

Graystripe and Millie's only tom. Bumblestripe is the kit of Graystripe's with the least traumatic backstory.

Cherrypaw

The daughter of Berrynose and Poppyfrost.

Expanded Universe

Goosefeather

ThunderClan's medicine cat while Pinestar was leader, and early during Sunstar's reign. Sometimes acts insane, but is also fairly wise. However, his predictions are sometimes disastrous for the Clan. He's also been in the Dark Forest.

Thistleclaw

A ThunderClan warrior in Bluestar's time. Quarrels with her over deputy position, leading Bluestar to give her kits to RiverClan.

  • Ax Crazy
  • Badass: He got into a fight with a dog while he was still an apprentice. And won.
  • Blood Knight: He loved fighting, which is why Bluestar realized she couldn't let him become leader.
  • Happily Married: To Snowfur, his Morality Pet.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Bluestar. They are both ambitious and want to become the leader of ThunderClan, but he makes it clear that he would use his position to lead the Clan into a life of constant fighting and violence, in contrast to Bluestar's more reasonable and peaceful leadership.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: In Crookedstar's Promise, when he is training in the Dark Forest, he says that Bluestar should have died instead of Snowfur.

Sunstar

Bluestar's leader for much of her life. He's a level-headed and respectful leader, and acted as a bit of a father figure to Bluestar, whose father didn't pay much attention to her.

Snowfur

Bluestar's littermate and mother of Whitestorm.

Pinestar

The leader of ThunderClan before Sunstar and Tigerstar's father. He leaves the Clans to become a kittypet.

  1. Note five of the eight tropes listed below related to his heritage
