  • And it's still shorter than What If Encyclopedia Dramatica Wrote Our Trope Titles?.
  • Also, Really, Really Lousy Alternate Titles That Are Way Too Long And Usually Complain About Tropes, Tropers, And Pretty Much Everything is too hypocritical.

• It's called A-Cup Angst because Man, I Wish I Had Big Breasts just doesn't have a ring to it.
• It's called All Blue Entry because Fucking Dorks with OCD Using Sinkholes to Turn the Entire Bullet Point Blue for No Fucking Reason is a bit too much to type, and we don't have the gall to make fun of people with OCD.
• It's called America Saves the Day instead of America! Fuck Yeah! because we try to avoid swearing in titles unless it's absolutely necessary.
• And That's Terrible is a bit of a Pothole Magnet, but the alternate title, Fucking Dipshits Trying to Shove How Obviously Terrible Something Is Down Our Throats As If We're Too Fucking Dumb to See How Shitty and Terrible It Is...Which, As You Know, Is Terrible, Obviously, Duh!, is just plain cruel. And that's terrible. But at least it'd keep away those damn Potholers...
• It's called Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking because Furries, Loli-Porn, and Dubs is too much of a gratuitous Take That to the anime Fandom. And furries, of course.
• It's called Artifact Title because it's much snappier than The Title Used to Make Sense, and Then The Series Changed in a Way That Doesn't Fit With the Title, But We're Sticking With That Name Anyway for the Sake of Familiarity.
• It's called Ascended Glitch because We Didn't Mean to Do This, But the Fans Liked It So We Kept It In is a little too honest.
• It's called Ass Kicks You because Butt Butt would have been too much of a pun, even for this site.
• It's called Ass Pull because it describes more payloads than Deus Excreta, which in turn would be confused with "Deus ex Creta", which means "god from Crete".
• We chose the name Atomic F-Bomb because it's a nice pun. Big Fuck just sounds like an orgy, although it would fit in with the other Big Word Shouts.

• Beat the Curse Out of Him isn't called Kirby's Solution because no amount of possessed bosses in the series will save the title from Fan Myopia.
  • Extremely Excessive Exorcism Exercise sounds pretty good, if not a bit long and unclear.
• Better Than It Sounds is called that because Making Good Fiction Seem Like Crap And Making You Guess Which Fiction It Is is a lot to type.
  • And also because Adventure Ho is too specific to one show.
• Big Brother Instinct is not called Brother Bear (a snowclone of Mama Bear).
• They call it Big No because NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! is a little too big and no one will remember how many letters are in it.
  • Ditto with the other Big tropes:

• It's called Black Sheep Hit because If We'd Known This Was Going To Be The Only Song You Remember Us For, We Never Would Have Done It is too long and also a little too honest.
• Bluenose Bowdlerizer is slightly nicer than F*cking Underage Five-Year-Olds Censoring All the F*cking Curses on This M*therfucking Wiki Either Because They're R*tarded as S*it or Because of Some Stupid F*cking Censorware Installed By Their Clueless Mother...F*CKER, which would just be an insult to five-year-olds.
• Boomerang Bigot isn't an asinine snowclone, unlike I Can Self-Discriminate.
• Broken Aesop is called that because Emoji Movie Syndrome would just be beating a dead horse, especially as the trope was around a lot longer than that film.

C

• Cassandra Truth was chosen over Why the Fuck Is No One Believing Me!?!?.
• It's called Chekhov's Gun because Look At Me I'm a Plot Device! is just a tad snarky.
  • And calling it Sulu's Sword would be confusing.
• It's called the Chewbacca Defense because Total Bullshit Argument would just be rude. Plus, it would most likely turn into a Pothole Magnet for complaining.
• Cluster F-Bomb is generally easier to remember than Fucking Fuckheaded Show That Fucking Likes To Fucking Use The Word "Fuck" All The Fucking Time, and you couldn't use it in polite company. Also, it's punnier.
  • We don't call it Rapid-Fire Fuck either because that sounds like a character having sex many times within a short period.
• Complaining About Shows You Don't Like is a long title, but Presenting Subjective Opinions of Things You Don't Like As Objective Fact in a Way That Will Just Start an Argument is even longer.
• We call it Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch because Don't Read, Don't Dislike is a really corny snowclone.
• Corrupt Corporate Executive is a better title than The Modern HRV Media Group or The Susan due to the unnecessary Take Thats in the latter two.
• We call it Crack is Cheaper because Hasbro Owns Your Soul hit a bit too close to home for some people.
  • And Nintendrone Syndrome, while a nice rhyme, is just mean and would probably cause a brutal Flame War.
• It's Crack Pairing because Shipping of Two or More People That Rarely If Ever Interact with Each Other or People That Hate Each Other and Would Never Think of Loving Each Other in a Million Years...or Just Mind Screw Pairings is way too long.
• Creator's Pet is nicer than Fucking Dipshit That the Writers Worship Like a God.
• Critical Backlash is so called because Flak Lash was way too lame of a pun.
• Critical Dissonance is called that because Just How the Flying Fuck Did Cuties Get a Fucking 87% Rating On Rotten Tomatoes!?!?! is too much of a Take That.
• Crowning Moment of Awesome is not Gushing About Moments You Like because, aside from being an unnecessary snowclone, it also sounds slightly judgemental.
  • Dethroning Moment of Suck isn't called Complaining About Moments You Don't Like for the same reason.
• Cut a Slice, Take the Rest is a lot shorter and nicer than Hey, If You Cut a Small Slice, Take the Small Slice, You Dick.

D

• Damsel Scrappy is the name, since Useless Chick Who Does Nothing But Get Kidnapped and Scream proved to be a tad long-winded, and it's more polite than Dumbass in Distress.
• Dark World is a better title than The Veil since not everyone has played Wolfenstein 3D and it's far from being a good example.
• It's called Darth Wiki because on the one hand, someone would have objected to This Is Where We Put Our Answer to /b/tards, and on the other hand, B is too short.
• It's called A Date with Rosie Palms because it turns out This Hand of Mine Glows With an Awesome Power isn't actually an example.
• Decapitated Army is a cleverer name than Stupid and/or Lazy Minions Who Suddenly Lose the Motivation to Fight When Whoever's in Charge Dies.
• Deconstructed Trope is the name. Played Painfully Straight would be fine...if not for the vicious Pothole Magnet monster rampaging this site that would twist its meaning into "secretly complaining about tropes you don't like".
• It's called Demonization because Lying About Shows You Don't Like is only part of it.
  • And also because Complaining About Satanic Strawmen of Shows You Don't Like That You Pulled Straight Out Your Fucking Ass Because You're a Fucking Rabid Moral Guardian with Literally NO Fucking Self-Awareness At Fucking All is kind of hard to read.
• Department of Redundancy Department is called Department of Redundancy Department because Redundancy is too boring of a name for Department of Redundancy Department, which is called Department of Redundancy Department instead because if we call Department of Redundancy Department Redundancy, it'd be a boring title for Department of Redundancy Department. That's why it's called Department of Redundancy Department.
• Dethroning Moment of Suck isn't exactly the shortest title, but neither is That One Moment in the Show That Completely Jumps the Shark, Leaves a Bitter Taste in Your Mouth and Proves That the Show Is Ruined FOREVER, which isn't necessarily true either.
• Digital Piracy Is Evil is infinitely better than Arson, Murder, and Jailbreaking, as not all jailbreakers are pirates and not all pirates mod consoles.
  • Arson, Murder, and Piracy is a better title, but it's still an unnecessary snowclone.
• Directionally Solid Platforms is definitely a better title than The Contra Effect since Contra is known for other things too.
• Discredited Trope is nicer than Stop Using This Bullshit Trope, You Dumb Fucktards!.
• Remember That Scene in That Disney Movie Where the Chick Sings and Animals Come Out to Join Her? Well Look We're Parodying That! Aren't We Clever? is a little too cheeky for its own good. Disney Creatures of the Farce works a lot better.
• We went with Dissimile because it's shorter, catchier, and more punny than "And By 'Metaphorically', I Mean 'Get Your Coat.'"
• It's called The Dog Bites Back because Russian Dog wouldn't make sense to the majority of people unfamiliar with In Soviet Russia, Trope Mocks You.
• It's called The Dog Was the Mastermind because The Dog That You Saw On the Way to the Crime Scene and Was the Least Likely Being to Do It Got You Into This Mess can cause breathlessness by itself.

E

• Eat the Dog was less punny, and less obscure, than Menchi Solution.
• Ending Fatigue is called that because The Point Where It Becomes Obvious That Someone Was Paying the Writers By the Word may not always be accurate.
  • The same goes for Purple Prose.
  • It also sounded better than You've Already Killed the Bad Guy, Just End the Fucking Thing Already!.
• Entry Pimp sounds cheerful while Tropers Trying to Shove What They Like and/or Make Down Our Throats No Matter What is a bit mean.
• Evil Feels Good isn't a snowclone, unlike Damn, It Feels Good to Be Bad!.
• Exactly What It Says on the Tin is preferable to The Name Says It All, Really.
  • It's also a good choice because Self Explanatory isn't.
• Extreme Omnivore is less obscure than Zoidberg Fuel.

F

• Fan Hater is a lot shorter and slightly less judgemental than I Can't Believe Anyone Actually Likes This! It's a Worthless Heap of Shit, It's the Fucking Worst Thing in the World, and If You Like It or Think Anything of It Other Than Steaming Hot Garbage, You're an Absolute Tool and a Waste of Time with No Taste and You're Not Worth Any Effort, Love, Pity or Emotion, So Really, Why Don't You Just Go Away and Die?.
• We call it Fetish Fuel because we couldn't exactly call it Stuff That Is Not Porn But We Still Get Off On.
• Finger Gun could've been called Finger Bang, until it became a repetitious chorus in a South Park song.
• Flame Bait could've been called Highly Dangerous Explosive Tropes, but we already have Stuff Blowing Up.
• It's called a Flame War because Cyberbrawling is a weak pun of "cyberbullying" and an unclear title besides.
• It's called Flying Brick because Harder Better Faster Stronger doesn't mention the flying part.
  • Harder Better Faster Stronger Flyer is a better alternate title, but a bit long.
• It's called Franchise Zombie because I Hate All of You For Liking This But I Have to Make More of It! sounds downright insulting.
  • And it's not called Oh God, I'm So Tired of Working On This Show, I Really Want to Move On to Something Else, But I've Still Got Two Years On My Contract, and I Can't Afford to Break It. because we don't end trope names with full stops.
• Funbag Airbag makes a nice rhyme, unlike Clash On the Big Breasts, which would make anyone familiar with Final Fantasy V groan.

G

• Gainax Ending was on this site longer than Fandom Gank, which is why it'll never be renamed to Intentional Fandom Gank.
• Gannon Banned is called that because His Name Is LINK, You Uncultured Swine! is unnecessarily rude and already a trope.
  • And also because Our Quick and Simple Guide to Not Cause an Internet Backdraft is simply too long.
• Gender Bender is definitely better than Alex and Bo.
• Germanic Depressives is nice and punny. Sour Krauts is equally punny, but also pretty offensive. And we really don't want to offend those guys. On account of them being so grim.
• We choose Giant Space Flea From Nowhere because What the Heck Is That Boss Doing Here!? would be too hard to use as a noun.
• It's Giver of Lame Names because Leonard Of Quirm Naming is too obscure for some.
  • And while Self Demonstration is always fun, That Guy Who Always Names Things with Stupidly Long and Overly Detailed Descriptions of Their Function is just a bit unwieldy.
• Godwin's Law is called that because Everyone Is Hitler in Nazi Germany just doesn't roll off the tongue so well.
• Good Wings, Evil Wings is better than Good Wings, Bad Wings since the latter would be confused about wings on mythological creatures being impractical.
• Gretzky Has the Ball is less confrontational than If You're Going to Write About Sports, Do the Fucking Research or All the Nitpicky Sports Fans Will Complain About All This Stuff You Got Wrong.

H

• For the Love of God Why Do Those Lazyheads at Nintendo and SEGA Always Have the Same Final Boss All the Time? is just a tad more opinionated than Hijacked by Ganon.
• Hoist by His Own Petard could've been called Wile E. Coyote Syndrome, but let's face it, as cool as it would be to name something after a Looney Tunes character, naming it after something that William Shakespeare wrote is cooler.
• Hollywood Autism isn't an unclear pun, unlike Autistic License.
• Hollywood Tactics isn't named Just [A] Bunch Of Droids because not everyone knows what JBOD is and it can get the Double Entendre. And while Star Wars is a major offender, it's not just about how the droids fight.
• Hollywood Tourette's was used instead of Tourette's Fucking Cunt Shit On My Asshole Syndrome or Tourette's Isn't Just About Swearing, You Idiots. We've already had it called "Tourettes Fucking Cunt Syndrome" before and we renamed it for obvious reasons.
• It's called Hype Aversion because You Should Avoid This Like a Plague or Else You'll Turn Into a Mindless, Drooling Dipshit Like the Masses Who Watch This Shallow, Piece-of-Shit Show For a Fad With Its Over-Inflated Hype Clogging Up the Networks Like the Hardened Fat in the Arteries of the Pathetic, Lifeless Losers Who Watch It, aside from just being plain cruel, would make you run out of breath saying it.

I

• It's called I Am Not Shazam because that's a somewhat less confrontational title than That's the Name of the Work, Not The Name of the Character, You Stupid Idiot.
• Idiot Ball has a ring to it. Characters Acting Like Idiots Because the Writers Could Not Think of a Plausible Reason to Have the Plot Happen Otherwise doesn't.
  • Same thing with Idiot Plot. Neither can we call it Beavis and Butthead Plot because it would come off as a Take That.
    • The same goes for Howcome They Just Panic and Let Undodog Erase That Whole Fucking Castle, Especially When They Have an Extra Two Fucking Seconds on the Countdown!?.
• I'm a Humanitarian is the name, as just calling it Cannibalism isn't punny enough.
• It's called Innocent Fanservice Girl because Vague Excuse to Have a Naked Girl Stay Naked was too long.
• We call it Internet Backdraft because Flame Barbeque is a bit too ambiguous.
  • And accurate as Things Which Don't Ultimately Matter or Warrant Anger But Which Nerds Get Way Too Hostile About Anyway is, it's also potentially offensive or alienating to ATT's readership, an audience consisting largely of said nerds. Besides, Gannon Banned has a better claim on that one.
  • We could've called it The Newoobie Boom, but that's one of the worst puns known to man. And it's still ambiguous because of that.
• It's called Incest Subtext because Bro Yay came out wrong.
• I'll Be in My Bunk is short and subtle. That Was So Hot That I'm Going Somewhere Private to Jerk Off is more clear, but way too long, and just a bit Unsafe for Work.
• Intentional Engrish for Funny is shorter than It Funny to on Purpose Make English as Though Translated in Badly Way From Other Language.
• The fifth Indiana Jones movie could have been called Indiana Jones and the Antikythera Mechanism of Archimedies (seeing as that is the true name of the Artifact of Doom the hero is looking for, but that is harder to pronounce and not as catchy as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

J

• Jackass Genie was chosen over Genie Who Will Always Interpret Your Wish in the Worst Way Possible Forcing You to Be Very Specific Whenever You're Nearby.
• Jerkass isn't as long as That One Fucking Asswipe of a Character Who Does Nothing But Ruin Everyone's Day.
• Jerkass Ball is called that instead of That Mind-Numbingly Idiotic and Clichéd Moment Where One Character Suddenly Becomes a Fucking Asshole for the Purpose of a Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure because honestly, we're not here to bitch about tropes we don't like.
• Jizzed in My Pants is just slightly clearer than Bring My White Pants or UGGGHHHHHHH!!!.
• Jumping the Shark is not called Oh Shit, the Ruined FOREVER Crowd Was Right and especially not the excessively mean Author's Moral Event Horizon.

K

• Kaizo Trap is a short and snappy title. Cheap Total Bullshit Move That Forces the Player to Redo the Whole Fucking Level Again Because the Devs Are Evil, Psychopathic Dipshits Who Were Obviously Smoking Crack isn't, and is also straight-up cruel.
  • Also, Star Dream Soul OS Syndrome is an unnecessary Take That; it sounds like it was written by someone who obsessively hates Kirby: Planet Robobot and that boss to no end and broke their 3DS after losing to its Desperation Attack.
• Karma Houdini is the simpler name. It was originally Fuckers Who Get All the Chicks After Doing Horrible, Horrible Things.
• Kill All Humans is definitely a better title than Dalek Gambit for obvious reasons.

L

• It's called Laconic because Describe This Trope In As Few Words As You Can Without Making It Sound Either Really Stupid Or Just Like Some Other Trope. Oh, You Should Try To Make It Only One Sentence, Too. Thanks. would have been a long title and therefore counterproductive.
  • And a terrible name for a namespace.
• We went with Lampshade Hanging because Yeah We Know This Trope Is Bad But We're Gonna Use It Anyway and Tell You How Bad It Is may not always be accurate.
• It's called Limited Special Collectors' Ultimate Edition because Limited Deluxe Green Super Special Awesome Ultra Extended Combat Commando Alien Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot Vin Diesel Widescreen Collector's Unrated Edition Uncut Kane Ultimate Game of The Year Editor's Choice Edition: Director's Extended Cut: The Lost Scenes: Gold Platinum Diamond Chaotic Lawful Evil Good Saga Battle Chest Megapak Galactic Edition Orange Box Omega Limited With More Dakka: Final Cut Champion Edition Ultimate Match Reload Accent Core Heartburn International Final Mix Fucking Legendary Spoony Bard Edition X is way too long and would be very difficult to remember.
• Live but Delayed is not named Live but Retarded as less commonly used meanings for "retarded" aren't as well known.
• It's named Lull Destruction because Holy Shit, It's Way Too Quiet And The Audience Might Lose Interest, So Quick, Add Some Talking is a little harsh on the imaginations of dubbers.
• Lyrical Dissonance sounds quite a bit better than Yeah, I Know The Song Sounds Really Happy, But It's Got Some Really Disturbing Lyrics Which Will Most Likely Screw With Your Head.
  • And using that title would mean we'd need a redirect to it from Yeah, I Know The Song Sounds Like A Dirge, But If You Listen To The Lyrics, You'll Realize That It's About Something Quite Nice because the trope works both ways.

• It's called a Major Injury Underreaction. ‍'‍Tis But a Scratch? 'Tis but an unnecessary meme reference.
• May-December Romance is a good, short title. Its alternate title, Wait, He's How Old? And She's Only A Fucking Teenager? That. Is. Just. WRONG! isn't, and is judgmental as hell. Not to mention we'd need to redirect to it from Wait, She's How Old? And He's Only A Fucking Teenager? That. Is. Just. WRONG! since the male isn't always the older one.
• Meat-O-Vision isn't nearly as obtuse and opaque as Seafood Diet.
  • And "See-Food Diet" is a Gluttony Montage.
• Oh, and for the last time, it's Memetic Mutation, not I Can Haz Over Nine Thousand Barrel Rolls In SPARTA With An Awesome Face On My Dakka Gun That My Pretty Cool Heavy Carries Till Hell Freezes Over And Gets Chuck Norris To Use The Boost To Get Through The Game Which I Lost So I Have To Burn The Rope Until Stupid Sexy Flanders Flanders And Rickroll Make Brian Blessed Look Like The Love Child Of Flonne And Candle Jack Who Secretly Set Up Us The Bomb.
• Mind Screw is probably a less vulgar name than Oh My Fucking God What the Fucking Hell Just Fucking Happened!!??.
• It's called Misaimed Marketing because Complaining About Toys You Don't Like really only accounts for a third of the page.
• Miss Conception could've been called Sex Ed Fails You Forever, except that You Fail Sex Ed Forever was renamed to Anatomically-Impossible Sex.
• Mondegreen was chosen over Do You Need a Fucking Hearing Aid? Those Are the Wrong Lyrics!.
• It's called Money, Dear Boy because it's more to the point than How on Earth Did They Get That Actor to Agree to Be in That Piece of Shit?.
• We choose Monster Clown because not everyone is familiar with The Kefka.
  • And This Is What I Saw Clowns As in My Childhood would be somewhat offensive to some people.
• Mooks could have been called Those Nameless Guys That Are There For the Heroes to Beat Easily.
• It's called More Popular Spinoff because Did You Know That This Show Is Actually a Spinoff? is too long a title.
• Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls is called that because nobody had the foresight to call it Oh Christ, Why Did We Even Start This Page?. And naming it Complaining About Fandoms You Don't Like Because Yucky Girl Cooties Ruined Them FOREVER would just start the mother of all flame wars.
• It's called Mukokuseki because The Sort of Art Style That Makes People from Predominantly White Countries Think All Asian Anime Characters Look White Because They're Used to White Being "Default" and Racial Minorities Being Drawn in a Way that Emphasizes How They Aren't White is a paragraph in itself.

• It's called Narm because Totally Fucking Up A Dramatic Moment would just be misused to refer to any scene that fails at being dramatic.
• Nightmare Fuel has a better ring than How Bad Does Horror Have to Be That We Need a Trope Page for When It Actually Works?.
• Nightmare Retardant sounds better than You Call This Shit Frightening?.
• No Endor Holocaust could be named Jossified Killing, but it wouldn't reflect its usual scale and how glaring it sometimes happens to be.
• We call it No Indoor Voice instead of THE TRADITIONAL ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE, because we don't want to scare off Fluttershy again.
• Nothing Butt an Index is a cute pun for a title. Indexed In the Butt would just be nasty.
• We called it N-Word Privileges because many of us don't have the privileges to write Nigger Is A Four Letter Word properly.

• Although I Cannot Self-Pollinate actually is a redirect, we prefer to call it Only You Can Repopulate My Race because that isn't a snowclone.
• It's called The Other Darrin because it's shorter than We've Secretly Replaced Your Favorite Actor with Folger's Crystals; Let's See What Happens.
  • Which is a pity, because that would've been a great name.
  • And Folgers Crossover has a better claim on it anyway.

P

• Paedo Hunt is called that because Shot Deadophile is one of the sickest puns humanly possible.
• Perfectly Cromulent Word isn't an in-joke, unlike Word Craft.
• Perverse Sexual Lust is just slightly catchier than What Kind of Pervert Am I, Getting Turned on By a Fucking Cartoon Character?.
• We call it Petite Pride because Why the Hell Is She Boasting When You Could Calibrate a Wii Remote on That Chest of Hers!? is just plain cruel.
• We went with Planet Eater because World Hunger is an actual real-life problem that has nothing to do with the trope and is actually kind of serious.
• Plot Hole is a better title than Voodoo Plot since the trope has nothing to do with voodoo.
• Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure is slightly less bitchy and sarcastic than WOW I Totally Did NOT Expect the Main Characters to Have Some Stupid Falling Out for Literally No Reason, Let Alone Get Back Together Five Minutes Later Also for Literally No Reason.
• Poor Communication Kills is a much better title than That's What I Heard due to the latter being easily potholed.
• Power Copying isn't called The Kirby Effect because it's almost as short-sighted as its former name Mega Manning.
