• Open the Iris is not an order to lower the Stargate SG-1's defenses to allow travelers into Stargate Command, nor about doing naughty things to a girl named Iris. (Which is a shame, 'cause she's cute.) Nor is it about time-lapse photography of flowers blooming.
  • It's also not about performing surgery on a particular nun in Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations.

• The Palantir Ploy is not about diverting the Big Bad's attention with a obvious nemesis.

• Peek-a-Bangs doesn't have anything to do with surprise sex while playing Marco Polo or Hide and Seek.
• Peggy Sue is not when Peggy is used as a Mary Sue.
• People in Rubber Suits sounds hot, but it isn't. ...unless it is.
• Percussive Prevention doesn't mean "Friends don't let friends play drums".
• Person with the Clothing is not when one member of a group of lookalikes wears something that makes it easy to identify the individual.
  • Nor is it the only member of the cast or group that is wearing any clothes.
• Personal Dictionary is not when someone jokingly gives a character (or something else)'s name as a definition for a dictionary.

• Pettanko is not the Japanese interpretation of Pinball.
• Phantom Thief does not steal ghosts.
  • Nor is it about Erik, The Phantom of the Opera having taken up a career in burglary.
• Phlebotinum Muncher is not an educational computer game that teaches you how the Applied Phlebotinum works by having you run around a board eating things.

• Pickup Hierarchy has nothing to do with which truck is better.

• Pitch Testing Zone is not where people make up comedic advertisements for ridiculous fictional products. Although that would be awesome.

• Planet Eris is not a trope about the actual dwarf planet Eris. Though, before the disclaimer was added, the troper Egak came up with an insanely convoluted explanation for the apparent namesaking involving the dwarf planet's former name and a specific episode of The Simpsons.
• A Planimal is not about creatures who spend their time scheming things.
• Plato Is a Moron is not about fictional events that contradict the Platonic Cave allegory or any of the philosopher's other teachings.
• Platonic Caves are not rocky caverns in which hotly debated couples protest that they're Just Friends.
  • Or that caves that are harmless.
• A Player Punch is not a brand of fruit juice made by Nintendo.
• Playing Tennis With the Boss is not a reference to the Tennis Scene from Taking Care of Business. It is also not about playing tennis, or indeed any other game, with Bruce Springsteen.
  • It doesn't (usually) involve a literal game of tennis with the Big Bad.
• Playing with Wiki does not refer to what you are probably doing at this very moment. Nor is it Zack's treasure-hunting strategy.
• Plot-Triggering Death is not a death which triggers a cutscene in video games.
• Plot Tumor is not about The Scrappy, a Creator's Pet, or any other type of character--although it could be if they turn out to be the Chosen One.
• Pluto Is Expendable. Mickey's dog, however, is irreplaceable.
  • It is also not a Take That against Naoki Urasawa's Pluto.
  • Nor is it a Sister Trope to Everybody Hates Hades.
• The Pocket Protector is not part of the attire of the Hollywood Nerd. One could invoke the trope, but it's not what the trope means.
• Poke the Poodle has absolutely nothing to do with Captain John Hart.
  • Nor is it an Unusual Euphemism for an Ass Shove.
• Police Brutality Gambit is not about Cowboy Cops using Police Brutality to get information from suspects because they think that people will believe them over suspects. It is actually the opposite.
• Polish the Turd is not about the turd learning language of a certain European country.
• The Politically-Incorrect Villain is not one whose characterization is based on offensive stereotypes, but one who's applying the offensive stereotypes himself.
• Polygon Ceiling is not about scenarios built with CGI.
• a Poorly-Disguised Pilot isn't someone who flies planes while wearing a Paper-Thin Disguise.
• Popular Is Dumb is not about how popular shows, movies, etc. are often viewed as unintelligent. Nor, for that matter, is it complaining about the show Popular.
  • Or the song from Wicked. Or Nada Surf's early Black Sheep Hit.
• Portal Network is not a multiplayer version of Portal.
• Portal Picture is not about what you see when you look at a portal, nor is it about screenshots of the game Portal.
  • And Portal Pool isn't a variant of pool played using the Portal engine. Though it should be.
• Porting Disaster is not what happens when a Ship docks, and one of the two characters cannot perform. It's also not about an unfortunate collision or destruction of a sea vessel, or what happens after a miscalculation during teleportation.
• A Portmantrope need have nothing to do with Natalie Portman.
• The Pose of Silence is not an index finger raised to the lips in a shushing gesture.
• A Possession Sue is not a Mary Sue with powers to take over other people's minds and/or bodies (though that'd be far from unlikely a power for a Mary Sue to have).
  • Nor is it what you do when you take the person who took over your body to court. After all, possession is nine points of the law.
• A Potty Emergency does not refer to the toilet physically harming you.
• A Pound of Flesh Twist is not the ultimate candy bar for carnivores.
  • Or a variant on the Indian burn prank.
• Power Equals Rarity doesn't mean that getting electricity in your home will cause a certain fashion-designing unicorn to pop up.
• Power Incontinence has nothing to do with getting a severe case of dysentery.
• The Power of Rock is (probably) not about the force strong against The Power Of Scissors and weak against The Power Of Paper. It's also not related to the The Power of Friendship. The Power of Love could be, but only when talking about the Huey Lewis song (possibly including covers and homonym songs).
• A Precision F-Strike is not when a Teachers Union decides to selectively (and otherwise unfairly) fail students as a form of collective bargaining with the school board.
• Pretty Fly for a White Guy is not about a caucasian man's attractive pet flying insect or trouser zipper. Nor is it exclusively about the The Offspring song, although it is the Trope Namer.
• Pretty in Mink is not about how attractive the main character of Dragon Half is.
• Pretty Spry for a Dead Guy is not about uncharacteristically fast moving undead.
  • Nor is it about a certain musical fencing skeleton.
• Primal Fear is nor about things that frighten the leader of the Maximals.
• A Primal Scene is unlikely to be seen in Beast Wars

• The Problem with Licensed Games doesn't contrast with unlicensed console games such as Action 52.
• Product Placement has nothing to do with where you put the answer to a multiplication problem.
• Psychic Link is not about the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda gaining the ability to read minds.
• Psychological Torment Zone is not a really traumatic level of Sonic the Hedgehog.
• The Psycho Rangers are not a group of multicolored (not) spandex-clad heroes who defeat evil through psychological means rather than violence.
• Psycho Strings is not necessarily related to Razor Floss wielded by a Girl with Psycho Weapon.
• Punch Clock Villain is not about villains who are so evil that they punch out clock faces.
  • Nor is it about evil bureaucrats who keep checking if you made it to your job on time and didn't leave early.

• Pungeon Master isn't about the stereotype of RPG players having difficulty with hygiene.

• Put Me in Coach is not what happens when someone doesn't want to fly first class.

• Puzzle Pan is not related to Peter Pan or Pan's Labyrinth.
• Quad Damage is not about a Groin Attack to a krogan. Or what happens when Kevin Nash takes a step.

• The Quisling is not a baby quiz.
• Quote Mine is not a Stock Phrase for when you want your words to be at the top of someone's trope. Nor does it describe a situation in which you must learn to work with a hostile quote for the common good.
  • It is not a quote that explodes when stepped on (although the effects can still be devastating).
  • It certainly has nothing to do with mute war-machines.
  • It's not an underground mine filled with quotes either.

• Race For Your Love is not about needing to prove your love to someone by beating them in a race.
  • Nor is it about posing as a different ethnicity because it turns someone on.
• Race Tropes is not an index of such things as "the villain sabotages the hero's vehicle", "the hero builds enough speed to catch up but the race is neck and neck after he does", and "the hero wins by a nose, complete with freezeframe".
• Rack Focus does not refer to a guy looking at a girl's big boobs, nor a closeup of a Nut Shot. Nor is it about being obsessed with a specific torture device.
• Rage Quit is not about Rage from Dance Dance Revolution quitting video games.
• Ragnaroof Proofing is not about making the roof giant spider resistant.
  • Nor it has anything to do with Ragnarok's roof. Or Ragna's.
• A Railing Kill is not necessarily done with a railgun, and is almost never done on train tracks. It's not about killing those damn railings to make the work environment significantly more dangerous.
• Railroading is not constructing trains and similar vehicles in a Simulation Game.
• Rainbow Pimp Gear is not about the tendency of peddlers of prostitution to wear eye-scarringly loud outfits.
  • Nor is it about a possible alternative job for the Sixth Doctor.
• Rainbow Speak is not a language used exclusively by iridescent arcs. Nor is it what Rainbow Brite speaks.
• Randomly Drops is not about particularly clumsy characters trying to carry things, nor about eye drops that need to be administered at random intervals.
• Rank Inflation is not giving grandiose, but meaningless, titles to military ranks.
  • Nor is it about using foul smelling gas to fill balloons.
• Rare Guns is not about peanut popguns or a hand-held Kazooie.
  • And Rare Vehicles isn't about Diddy Kong Racing or Nuts and Bolts, either.

• Reassignment Backfire does not involve sending a character over to an air force unit that flies Tu-22Ms, which would be a clear promotion.
• Rebel Relaxation is not about the party after the Death Star is blown up.
• Reconstructed Trope isn't about what happens to Trope-tan after the Pigmask Army gets its hands on her.
• Recurring Riff is not the on-again-off-again secondary lead character of Sluggy Freelance. Except, arguably, when the zombies kept saying his name.
• Recycled in Space is not about interstellar environmentalism, unless it's just a rehash of Earth environmentalism.

  • A Red Right Hand isn't what you get if The Dragon is a communist, either.
    • Nor might you have one if you've been caught red-handed.
    • It also has nothing to do with playing Twister.
    • Nor is it what Ghirahim uses to block Link's sword Barehanded Blade Block-handed in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

    • It also does not come in yellow, blue or purple.
• The Redshirt Army is not about the anti-military side of the 2006 Thai coup d'êtat.

  • It also doesn't refer to Red from Pokémon joining Team Rocket.
  • Nor is it about Red XIII taking over Cid's love of space.

• Refuge in Audacity is not about using the music authoring software of that name to get better after encountering the Darkest Hour.
• Refuge in Cool doesn't mean a character is trying to be sufficiently cool to gain Plot Armor. Not that that works, anyway.
  • It doesn't involve hiding in Antarctica.
• Reinforce Field has nothing to do with Reinforce Eins or Zwei.
• Rent-A-Zilla is not about providing Kaiju for the general public's use. Aww...
• A Repeat Cut isn't the end result of a Flechette Storm.
• Replacement Scrappy does not mean The Scrappy is being replaced with a better character. Quite the opposite, unfortunately.
  • The original doesn't have to be The Scrappy, either.
• Reporting Names may be a Soviet-era trope, but it doesn't involve the Secret Police.
• A Revealing Hug is not a hug that causes Clothing Damage.
• Reverse Psycho isn't about getting killed by someone taking a shower.
• Reverse Shrapnel is not an Insecticon going backwards. Nor is it "lenparhs". Nor is it magically undoing the effects of an explosion.
• A Rich Bitch is not a lady dog who inherited a fortune. (Except in Funny Animal works.)
• Ridiculous Future Inflation has nothing to do with the creation of Gag Boobs or a Balloon Belly through the use of SCIENCE!.
• A Right-Hand Hottie is not a cute girl who literally replaces your right hand.
• Right Hand Versus Left Hand has nothing to do with masturbation. The trope also has nothing to do with the legal jargon about the right hand not needing to know what the left is doing to consist a conspiracy charge. No arm-wrestling tournaments, either.
  • Nor does it have anything to do with an epic battle between people of left or right-handedness.
  • Or about baseball or cricket, where there are a lot of professional lefties.
• Right Through His Pants is not about an Armor-Piercing Attack or Depleted Phlebotinum Shells that defeat Magic Pants.
• Rings of Death aren't the places where death matches occur. Neither does it have to do with a defective Xbox 360. It's also not when there is more than one Ominous Ring of Land, or a deadly videotape. And we know you feel clever for thinking back to that moment in the mid-nineties where you finally reached Knuckles's final boss in Sonic & Knuckles and he started firing deadly rings at you, and you're getting warmer, but no, that's still not quite it. What, murderous crop circles? Oh, for crying out loud. And if you're thinking of a circular Artifact of Doom, you're still off the mark.
• Ring Ring CRUNCH is not when somebody is on the phone with a Too Dumb to Live friend who gets eaten/destroyed/whatever in the middle of the conversation, nor is it a brand of cereal made of telecommunication parts. Although once, long ago...
• Rio is not a Juken Sentai Gekiranger spinoff.
• Rise of the Triad Actually has nothing to do with telling about the history of the Chinese Triad gang. (At least, not in the game's final form.)
• Rise to the Challenge has nothing to do with Nergal's battle theme from the 7th Fire Emblem.
  • It is also not merely accepting a dare to perform a difficult act.
• River of Insanity does not involve any member of the crew of Serenity.
