The protagonists of the series Karakuridouji Ultimo. A group of doji who embody a certain trait of goodness and their masters. Their hideout is an abandoned hospital.

Yamato Agari and Ultimo

Yamato Agari and Ultimo are the two major characters of Karakuridouji Ultimo. They represent Ultimate Good and are the leaders of The Good Doji Club.

Yamato Agari

"If I don't fight...then who will?!!"

The main hero. He's known mostly by all of this friends (and enemies) for being a huge idiot loudmouth and for his unusually tall height. In his past life, he was a bandit who later gained recognition with the people for his heroic, Robin Hood-like actions against the corrupt government.

Ultimo

"Nine centuries Yamato-sama! Ulti missed you very much!"

You know those people who look just a bit too nice? Well...

The greatest doji of Good. The manga essentially revolves around him. He embodies every good quality a person should have, such as modesty, kindness, and patience. However, there are incidents that imply that Ultimo isn't as nice as he looks. His master is Yamato Agari.

His Karakuri Henge theme are lions and cranes.

Musashi Murayama and Sophia

The master and doji of wisdom and members of The Six Perfections.

Musashi Murayama

"I come from the future. Just call me Musashi."

A 16-year-old boy that was a genius warrior in the future. He traveled back to the year 2012 to stop the Hundred Machine Funeral from happening, as it destroyed his future, and to capture Dustan. His personality is mostly polite, yet he seems to have a hard spot for Yamato. 

He had an older sister named Miyuu whom he was very close with. It's implied that she disappeared when the future was ruined, and seems to be a big part of why Musashi is fighting.

Tropes associated with Murayama:

  • The Aloner: He's not so much going mad, but just getting more and more reckless. Of course, with this series, who knows what might happen to him.
  • Badass Bookworm
  • Big Man on Campus: Murayama immediately becomes this when he enters Yamato's school.
  • Bishonen: He's so bishonen that girls run and knock over desks just to see him.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Subverted. He's blonde, doesn't look at all like the other characters, and he has a Japanese name. It could be because he's from the future.

  • Sexy Man, Instant Harem: The minute he walks into the classroom, the girls are already swarming him. They completly ignore the fact he says he's from the future.
  • Supercop: It is mentioned numerous times that in the future the police modify their bodies; Murayama is no different. Bonus points for the fact that he traveled Dustan back to the past and is trying to stop the Hundred Machine Funeral from happening with all he's got.
  • Teen Genius
  • The Rival: Is turning into this for Yamato.
  • Too Clever by Half: Don't get us wrong, Murayama is smart, but he's pulled a couple of dumbass moves, that have shocked both the audience and himself.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He seemed relatively polite up into chapter 12. Not so much now.
  • Trapped in the Past: How will Murayama get back to his own time after he stops the Hundred Machine Funeral from happening?
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Subverted; he generally thanks Eco for all that he's done, but refuses to acknowledge Yamato for saving his life by pressing the Reset Button and returning him to the day before the Hundred Machine Funeral.
  • When He Smiles: He gives a genuine smile to Sayama in Chapter 25.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Murayama comes from the future, and his goal is to stop the Hundred Machine Funeral from happening. He fails the first time, and considering how Dunstan is always meddling with events, he probably can't stop it from happening.

Sophia

"As long as goodness fights with love, it cannot lose. Not even if it dies."

A doji who embodies Wisdom, and one of the Six Perfections. He often wears a cape and visors that conceal his gauntlets, tail, and eyes. He has a rather quiet, observant personality.

His Karakuri Henge theme is tigers.

Ekoda Shin and Regla/Regula

The master and doji of disipline and members of The Six Perfections.

Ekoda (Eco) Shin

"Which is also true for good and evil. You don't know what it's really like until you eat it."

A man in his 30's who runs a sushi resturant. He is generally laid back and acts as a mentor to Yamato, and basically what holds the Good Doji Club together. He is the first Good Doji Master that Yamato and Ultimo meet. After his death in chapter 20, Regula's master is Makoto Sayama.

Regla/Regula

"You never change. You've made a mess again Ultimo."

A short and bald doji who embodies disipline of the Six Perfections of Buddhism. He can be laid back, but serious when the time comes. He knows about the horrible thing that Ultimo did in the past. After Eco's death in chapter 20, his new master is Makoto Sayama.

His Karakuri Henge theme seems to be monkeys.

Machi Shina and Slow

The master and doji of energy, and members of The Six Perfections.

Machi Shina

"I'm warning you, my doji could waste yours any day."

A 28 year old woman who works as a fortune teller and is the only female doji master for The Good Doji Club. She is prone to teasing and bickering with Hiroshi. Is unable to be the master of Slow as of chapter 20, and is replaced by Akitsu Ohtake.

Turns out she isn't actually a real fortune teller at all. She lives with the Yakuza and has to pretend to be a psychic to pay her rent.

Tropes associated with Machi:

Slow

"Picking a fight all alone like this is crazy."

The embodiment of energy (diligence in the English translation). He appears to have a rather feisty personality. He interestingly looks a lot like Machi. As of Chapter 26, his new master is Akitsu Ohtake.

His Karakuri Henge theme seems to be deer.

Koun Shakujii and Pardone/Pardonner

The master and doji of Patience, and members of The Six Perfections.

Koun Shakujii

"Killing others, is killing yourself."

A 66-year-old retired doctor. Yamato was taken to his clinic after he passed out from his fight with Iruma and Jealousy. He has a very observant, intelligent personality. Vice kills him Chapter 20, leaving Kiyose Masumoto as Pardone's new master.

Tropes associated with Koun:

Pardone/Pardonner

"You're too loud. Shut up and show me your arm."

Pardone has a calm and quiet personality, but not a very friendly one. He has little respect for Yamato and seems to be the quickest to put him down. Koun is killed by Vice in Chapter 19. His new master is Kiyose Matsumoto.

His Karakuri Henge theme seems to be butterflies.

Yoichi Oizumi and Service

The master and doji of charity, and members of The Six Perfections.

Yoichi Oizumi

A 42-year-old buisness man. Yoichi is a very polite and kind man, despite being implied to have an even more miserable life than Yamato. Not one to complain, even at the worst of times.

  • Art Evolution: He looked hunched over and 60 when he first appeared. He now stands up straight and actually looks his age.
  • Butt Monkey: Even more so than Yamato.

Service

The embodiment of charity, who was previously thought to be the only female doji in the whole series. Sadly, in Chapter 23 Service was finally revealed to be a boy.

He seems to be on the arrogant side, or at the least, likes to show off quite a bit. His master is Yoichi Ohizumi.

Hiroshi Kumegawa and Gauge/Goge

The master and doji of meditation, and members of The Six Perfections.

Hiroshi Kumegawa

A 21-year-old street punk, who despite his rather intimmedating apperance, is in the Good Doji Club. Even more surprisingly the master of Goge. Does not like people not using honorifics with his name, especially if they're Machi. Despite their bickering, it's implied that him and Machi are dating. After Vice breaks his neck in chapter 20, he is paralyzed from the neck down, leaving Hibari Oume as Goge's new master.

Tropes associated with Hiroshi:

Yamato: "He's scary! There's no way he's good!"

Gauge/Goge

Like his master, his size and appearnce can be very misleading to his true nature. A very calm and kind dojiand one who is thoughtful and wise. After Hiroshi is hurt, Hibari Oume becomes his new master.

His theme animals seems to be boars.

Replacement Masters

Characters that have replaced any of the Good Doji's clubs original Five-Man Band.

Makoto Sayama Makoto Saya Dunstan

"What is that outside? And why is that kid I saw in you room...flying? What's going on?"

The magical halo around her is all in Yamato's mind.

A mysterious 17-year-old girl who is Yamato's crush. Her birthday is the day before the Hundred Machine Funeral. Her family runs a very successful sportswear company. Her personality is very polite, but Takei notes in her character profile that while "she has rescued Yamato from crises many times in the past, her cold reactions deliver even deeper psychological damage." She is the reincarnation of an orphan girl that Yamato took in back in the 12th century.

By Chapter 25 she has become a fellow member of the Good Doji Club and is Regula's new master.

By chapter 33 it's revealed that she's from the future. Actually, she's Dunstan's daughter, Makoto Saya Dunstan.

Akitsu Ohtake

"Who're calling brawny, new guy? Interesting... Shall I smite you with my sword?"

That's an actual sword she's carrying to school with her.

A girl that is part of Sayama's Girl Posse. She's very tall (almost as tall as Yamato, which is quite a feat), but is far from a Gentle Giant. In fact, she has a very sour personality, often ridicules Yamato, threatens Oume, and carries a kendo sword around with her. She does act calmer around Rune, however. Is the new master of Slow as of Chapter 26.

A girl with a nerdy appearance that is a part of Sayama's Girl Posse. She seems to hold a sort of.... obsession for Yamato and Rune's relationship. Is the new master of Pardonner.
