Nefertari Vivi

Voiced by: Misa Watanabe (JP), Karen Neill (EN, 4Kids), Caitlin Glass (EN, Funi)

The princess of Alabasta, Nefertari Vivi is a very close friend of the Straw Hats, and loves her country very deeply. She has a very kind nature, to the point where she has trouble coming up with insults and tries to solve problems non-violently, which is somewhat ironic as she was something of a troublemaker as a child. She often gave little speeches about responsibility while traveling with the Straw Hats, but she does not like public speaking.

When it became clear that the organization Baroque Works was egging on a rebellion in her country, she and her caretaker, Igaram, went undercover and infiltrated the organization as Ms. Wednesday and Mr. 8, respectively, in order to find out who was pulling the strings. She eventually discovered that the Warlord of the Sea Crocodile was behind everything, but her cover was blown and she joined up with the Straw Hats and enlisted their help, ultimately resulting in Crocodile's defeat and peace returning to her homeland.

  • Action Girl: When she actually gets to fight, she's this. And it is awesome.
  • Art Evolution: Surprisingly enough happened over the course of a few chapters [dead link].
  • Badass Princess: She inflitrated Crocodile's organization and climbed pretty high in the ranks.
  • Break the Cutie: Gets slapped with this hard. After several Plans that Crocodile placed on her, leading to a civil war within the capital and culminating in a bomb in the town center with a blast radius of five kilometers set to explode even though she defeated the ones who were to fire it; this led to Pell, Royal Guardian of Alabasta, sacrificing himself to save everyone from the explosion by flying the giant bomb to the stratosphere (he got better, though). After witnessing this and seeing her people still killing each other, Vivi snaps and starts yelling at the top of her lungs for them to stop fighting. It was a very emotional and painful sight to watch, and really cemented Crocodile as a Complete Monster.
  • Can't Catch Up: By the end of her time on the crew, even Nami has outpaced her in terms of combat ability. Not entirely her fault, and she even acknowledges this after the Enies Lobby arc.
  • Characterization Marches On: Remember when we first met her, eager to kill the whale Laboon for meat?
    • Said meat was needed to feed an island that was starving and dying of thurst, so it's not totally out of her character, even though it may seem weird at first.
  • Cool Pet: Carue, her giant duck.
  • Dance Battler
  • Everything's Better with Princesses: ...and upon first learning this, Nami tried to use this to extort money from the kingdom.
  • Expy: Her design resembles another princess: Schala, from Chrono Trigger. Since this game's characters were designed by Akira Toriyama, of whom Oda is a huge fan, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if it turned out to be true.
  • Fan Service: In a literal example of 'fanservice', Oda actually responded to some guy's specific fetish[1] on the manga cover for 610, which involved non other than Vivi scrubbing the floor while drenched in water.
  • Forehead of Doom: Undeniably so. Enough to rival Hancock.
  • Guest Star Straw Hat Pirate
  • I Choose to Stay: Was invited to stay with the Straw Hats after Crocodile's defeat. And though she nearly considered it, she chose to stay at Alabasta to help rebuild it.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: "Peacock Slashers," [dead link] small blades that are connected to her pinky fingers by wires. She twirls them around in the style of chakrams. No human pinky would normally have the strength or dexterity to pull that off, but Rule of Cool okays it.
    • She actually managed to cut Crocodile's head off with those weapons, but his Logia abilities allowed him to easily survive it. Still, to do able to do that with just a pinky is practically a Charles Atlas Superpower. Clearly, Vivi is a lot stronger than she looks.
      • Actually, it's extremely easy to cut through Crocodile due to his automatic sand transformations. However, she did look cool while doing it, even though it took very little ability or strength.
        • Well even though she didn't exactly cut Crocodile's head off, she DID manage to make a clean cut on the chair he sat on. That's gotta take some strength there.
  • Lady of War: Maintains a level of grace until her Heroic BSOD at the end of the Battle in Alubarna.
  • Modest Royalty: The only time she's ever seen in anything fancy is for a specific formal occasion. She's dressed pretty casually everywhere else.
  • My Breasts Are Down Here: The poster girl for it. In the manga at least.
  • Nakama: An honorary Straw Hat member for the time they spent together.
  • Nice Girl
  • Plucky Girl
  • Reverse Mole: Joined Baroque Works to find out who the leader was.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She was a mole in the secret organization trying to destabilize her country for two years of her life before getting found out. That's pretty awesome.
  • Secretly Wealthy: Until her Heel Face Turn.
  • The Sixth Ranger: She joined not too long after the firm Five-Man Band had been established with Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Her family names sometimes gets romanized as "Nefeltari", which is the case with the English manga and 4Kids dub.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Quite possibly one of the most selfless characters in the series.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Even if it was a short-lived battle, her defeat of Mr. 7 and Miss Father's Day showed that, yes, she did actually pick up pointers from watching the rest of the crew fight.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Nami's Tomboy, sort of (Nami isn't too strictly tomboyish and Vivi isn't too strictly girly.)
  • Variable-Length Chain: One interpretation of her signature weapon. Those string slashers seem a bit long to just wrap around her tiny waist
  • Where Are They Now? Epilogue: The small cover arc story shows that Vivi has grown to be a fine young lady, and is going to the Revire in place of her bed-ridden father.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: A trait seen as early as six years old when she didn't make a scene when Wapol slapping her and trying to provoke her, so that he doesn't incite an international incident. Also, as mentioned before, she's going to Reverie to represent her kingdom...did we mention she's now 18?
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Sky-blue, actually.

"Mr. 2" Bon Clay

"Straw-chan...!! I came to save you...in the name of friendship!!!"

Voiced by: Kazuki Yao (JP), Kevin Konlack (EN, 4Kids), Barry Yandell (EN, Funi)

Real name Bentham, Mr. 2 Bon Clay (or "Bon Kurei") is one of the more eccentric characters in the series, and that's saying something. A transvestite with a dance-based fighting style, the Clone-Clone Fruit (Mane Mane no Mi) that enables him to copy others' appearances, an incredibly fruity and over the top personality, he is much more dangerous than he may appear, as he was the sole member of the second highest tier of the Baroque Works Officer Agents. Mr. 2 is prone to breaking out in song and twirling around, annoying those nearby to no end, and he shows a surprising level of loyalty towards his friends.

He first met the Straw Hats while they were en route to Alabasta after he had fallen overboard off his own ship, and got along quite well with the more easily amused Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp. After being defeated by Sanji, he was deeply moved by what he saw as an gesture of sportsmanship, resulting in he and his flunkies distracting the Marines long enough for the Straw Hats to escape Alabasta. Afterwards, after a series of misadventures, Mr. 2 was eventually arrested and sent to Impel Down.

During Luffy's attempt to rescue Ace, he was freed and ended up fighting alongside him, Buggy the Clown, and fellow Baroque Works agent Mr. 3. After Luffy was defeated by the warden Magellan and left to die in Level 5, Mr. 2 set out to save him and find the imprisoned Emporio Ivankov, a transvestite king who allegedly had miraculous healing powers, dragging the unwilling Buggy and Mr. 3 along for the ride as well. Afterwards, in a truly epic Tear Jerker moment, he stayed behind and disguised himself as Magellan so that the Gates of Justice would open and the rest of his comrades could escape.

With the reveal that Magellan was beaten within a inch of his life, but no info about him alone, Mr. 2's fate was uncertain until Chapter 666, where it is revealed that not only is Bon Clay still alive, but now the new Queen of level 5.5 on Impel Down.

  • Badass: This page personifies this trope. No other word can describe facing down a man of poison with such a lack of fear.
  • Bowdlerise: In the anime, the kanji on his coat are the characters for the Japanese word for ballerina rather than Okama Way, as in the manga (Okama is slang for transvestite), and his fighting style, Okama Kenpo, was renamed Ballet Kenpo.
    • The 4Kids dub went one further and named his fighting style Crazy Karate.
      • Movie 8, however, has the "Okama" kanji on his coat. Funimation naturally did not censor it.
    • Inconsistent Adaptation: After the censors gave up on covering transvestites in the anime (due to their prominent role from the Impel Down arc onwards), his fighting style was allowed to regain its manga name.
  • Camp Straight: Considering how he briefly flirted with Vivi on the Going Merry...
  • Catch Phrase: "Stop joking around!"
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: He kicked a giant lion in the face and brought it down! And we're not talking "giant" like the size of your average car. No, we're talking giant like the size of your average house.
  • Crossdresser: Actually, despite the ballerina-inspired early outfit, and okama meaning such, he hasn't actually done any crossdressing, though he does claim to be both a man and a woman. His fellows in the Kamabakka Kingdom, however, go all-out drag (as do the Newkama's of Impel Down... at least the ones retaining their original gender, the rest having been gone through a gender-swapping transmogrification using Ivankov's equally ambiguous gender bending okama-fitting powers).
  • Dance Battler: Okama Kenpo is largely based on ballet moves, all of which involve his feet.
  • Gender Bender: He once impersonated Nami and flashed the Straw Hats to prove his, er, 'completeness'. Nami was not amused.
  • Heel Face Turn: At the end of the Alabasta arc, thanks to The Power of Friendship.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Somehow manages to pull this off in every arc he appears in. First, he impersonates Luffy to distract the Marines at the end of the Alabasta arc. Then, in the manga-only cover story 'Meet Baroque Works', he took on Hina again, along with a fairly large force of Marines, to allow his fellow members to rescue Miss Valentine from execution, which led to his becoming imprisoned in Impel Down. Then, at the end of the Impel Down arc, he decides to stay behind so that he can impersonate Magellan and have the Gates of Justice opened so that Luffy and the rest of the escapees can sail away to freedom. He only tells Jimbei this to prevent the others from finding out, and while he's discovered by Magellan, he gets to bid a teary farewell to the entire group of escapees. Luffy actually complains to this effect, annoyed that Bon Clay is always the one doing the sacrificing.
  • Hot-Blooded
  • Large Ham: And holy goddamned how!
  • Nice Guy
  • The Power of Friendship: Oozes this from his pores at the end of the Alabasta arc, and goes into overdrive in Impel Down.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Putting his ballerina-inspired Baroque Works outfit aside, he also wore a pink overcoat and later on a more fashionable, yet still fruity, suit jacket.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: At first subverted when he tries turning into Usopp and Sanji still kicks his face in, but as soon as he turns into Nami, Sanji turns into lovestruck goo. Mr. 2 himself mentally comments that he can't believe it's that easy.
  • Showing Off the New Body: Played for laughs when he turns into Nami and flashes Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, taking their collective breath away. Nami was not amused.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": His name should actually be spelled "Bon Kurei", a reference to a Buddhist festival, yet "Bon Clay" is far more deeply ingrained in the fandom due to early fan translations and later official ones—in both English and Japanese—using Clay. Part of the rationale, apart from sounding similar, is that Clay references his morphing abilities.


Gan Fall

Voiced by: Jouji Yanami (JP), John Swasey (EN, Funi)

A knight who was once "God" of Skypeia but was dethroned by Eneru. After which he patrols the kingdom as a knight to secure as much of its safety as he can from Eneru's megalomania. After Eneru is defeated, he reclaims his title at the behest of his people.

Hatchan

Voice by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (JP), Sean Schemmel (EN, 4Kids), George Manley (EN, Funi)

Hatchan, often called "Hachi" is an octopus Fishman, and a former member of the Pirates of the Sun. After the crew split up, he joined Arlong's faction and became the handler of the sea cow Momoo. When the Straw Hats came to take down Arlong, he was defeated by Zoro, and was imprisoned by the Marines. However, he managed to escape, and met the mermaid Camie after saving her from Sea Kings and Fishman slavers. He opened up a seafood stand with her, fulfilling a childhood dream.

Later on, he crossed paths with the Straw Hats once again while they were heading for Fishman Island. He revealed that he felt bad about what had happened at Arlong Park, and decided to try and make it up to them and Nami by guiding them to the Sabaody Archipelago where they could have their ship coated for the underwater journey by Silvers Rayleigh, an old friend of his from before his pirate days.

  • Acceptable Targets: All Fishmen are this, according to the citizens of Sabaody Archipelago in-universe.
  • The Atoner: In order to make it up to Nami and the other Straw Hats, he's even willing to take them to the most dangerous places in Sabaody Archipelago for a Fishman to go. He reveals this after getting pummelled for his efforts (although he was fairly obvious about it when making fritters for the Straw Hats).
  • Breath Weapon: As an octopus, he can squirt ink from his mouth.
  • Carnivore Confusion: One way to look at the fact that he's an octopus-man who makes takoyaki. Although this is arguably justified, since octopuses do eat other octopuses.
  • Characterization Marches On: Not only did he pull a Heel Face Turn, he must have gained 70 IQ points in the process. He went from Dumb Muscle to Mr. Exposition, and all he had to do was to help a mermaid.
  • Dual-Wielding: Actually sextuple-wielding.
  • Dumb Muscle: He was initially this when introduced.
  • Friendly Target: Misfortune always seems to be coming Hatchan's way. As if being defeated handily by Zoro wasn't enough, after his Heel Face Turn, karma decides to have his friends kidnapped, him losing his girlfriend, him being captured in the process of rescuing them, him being shot by a World Noble, his ass getting kicked while defending the Thousand Sunny from the Marines, with Duval and Kuma, and being attacked with a hail of arrows by Van Der Decken putting him close to death.
  • Heel Face Turn: Nami wasn't convinced until he got shot, and revealed he tried hard to earn their forgiveness but managed to mess that up. Luffy told him not to worry about it in his own way.
  • Hero of Another Story: Let it be known that this guy has single-handedly saved Camie countless times. It just so happens that the people he clashes with when the Straw Hats are around are so much stronger than him...
  • I'm a Humanitarian: His job at Sabaody Archipelago is making takoyaki. Subverted; he claims he uses other tentacled species.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: By multiple arrows and a dagger. Darn You, Decken!
  • Mr. Exposition: Ironically, he becomes this in Sabaody Archipelago, despite his previous status as Dumb Muscle.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Being a octopus-man... with swords.
  • Nice Guy: After his Heel Face Turn. Actually, even before that to an extent.
  • Oblivious to Love: To Camie, unless he notices but doesn't want to encourage/embarrass her.
  • Pet the Dog: His kind treatment of Camie and Pappagu.
  • Reformed but Rejected: While the Straw Hats accepted Hatchan and Nami was fine with him aboard since he would pose no threat even if he was still evil, she was still distrustful of him until he got shot.
  • Simpleton Voice: In the 4Kids dub.
  • Supreme Chef: His fried octopus is apparently quite delicious.
  • What Could Have Been: At the beginning, Oda planned to make him a Squid Fishwoman named Marly Reed.


Camie

Voiced by: Haruna Ikezawa (JP)

A young mermaid who dreams of being a fashion designer. She has a tendency to be eaten by sea monsters and kidnapped by slavers, having met Hatchan when he rescued her from one such incident. She helps him open a seafood stand after he saved her again from a group of Fishman slavers. When she and Hatchan take the Straw Hats to the Sabaody Archipelago, her being kidnapped by slavers (yes, again) sets off a series of escalating It Got Worse moments for the pirate crew.

She is accompanied by a talking starfish named Pappagu, who constantly frets over her safety. Hatchan's friend Shakky teases her occasionally for having a crush on the octopus Fishman.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Poor girl... made worse by how it's probably the only sympathetic depiction of romantic love in the story.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Completely averted; she's cute, alright, but also executes some of the most excellent Jaw Drops ever for a female in the series.
  • Brain Bleach: Invoked in-universe when the Straw Hats meet her. As the last mermaid they met was decidedly less attractive, they bleach their memories of that mermaid so good-looking Camie is the first one that comes to mind.
  • The Chew Toy
  • Damsel in Distress: Pretty much her designated role in the story.
    • Also turned Up to Eleven For Laughs. She notes that Pappagu and her have been eaten by sea monsters 20 times and captured by slavers (the same slavers, no less) about 30 times, and Hatchan always rescues them. Usopp calls her out on it, too.
  • Lethal Chef: When she cooks for guests, anyway, except from Luffy's perspective, as he'll eat anything. To be fair, living underwater would make it awfully hard to learn how to use a stove.
  • Made a Slave: Had to be rescued from a slave auction before that happened.
  • Neutral Female: Considering that she's a Damsel in Distress par excellence...
    • To be fair, there wasn't much she could actively do about it since she was stuck in a fishbowl with an exploding collar around her neck. Try picturing yourself like that and wonder if you could EVER do something.
  • Nice Girl
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The Straw Hats had originally intended to rescue her from the aforementioned slave action quietly by buying her. Things didn't go as planned, and when the obnoxious World Noble Charloss assaulted Hatchan at the auction just to prove he could - not the first atrocity Luffy from the World Nobles had witnessed - the Straw Hats captain just didn't give a damn about their privileged caste status anymore, and gave Charloss the brutal thrashing he deserved. In effect, Camie inadvertently helped the Straw Hats find a new purpose, and in doing so, gave them a reason to oppose the World Government as a whole, potentially changing the world.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Camie? Or is it Caimie? Or maybe even Keimei?
  • Wild Take: She has probably the craziest take [dead link] in the series (which is saying something) and it takes very little to set her off.

"The Dark King" Silvers Rayleigh

"Who'd want to buy me as a slave? I'm an old man!"

Voiced by: Keiichi Sonobe (JP), Bradford Hutson (EN, Funi)

A ship-coating master in Sabaody Archipelago and First Mate of Gold Roger. Given the Badass Nickname "The Dark King" during his days as a pirate. During this time as a pirate, he acted as a supervisor of the crew, having a disciplinary role to Shanks and Buggy, especially when they argued. Having long since retired from piracy after Roger disbanded his crew, he hid in the Sabaody Archipelago and became infamous for coating ships, gambling, drinking, and partying with women. He has a good relationship with his business partner of twenty years Shakuyaku (perhaps more so than some think), and is good friends with Hatchan, who saved his life when he was a kid.

  • Badass: BOY is he ever!
    • Badass Beard
    • Badass Grandpa: The most badass old man in the series after Whitebeard.
    • Badass Nickname: "The Dark King."
      • The swedish translation made him "Dödens Konung" -- the King of Death.
    • Badass Normal: It came as a shock to many fans that he doesn't have a Devil Fruit, despite fighting an Admiral to a standstill after twenty years of inaction. He's just that good.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He got an epic one against Kizaru as the latter was about to finish off Zoro.
  • Big Good: Took over after Whitebeard's death in the Marineford arc.
  • Cool Old Guy
  • Dirty Old Man: Shakky suggests that he loves women, and this is implied to be the thing that actually motivates him to do anything to his captors after they force an explosive collar around Camie's neck.
  • Death Glare: Did this against some ringers when Camie was in trouble, leaving them knocked out and foaming in the mouth.
  • Fan Nickname: Rayleigh Silvers, since it has a pretty nice ring to it.
  • Foreshadowing: One of the more infamous examples in One Piece. In Buggy's flashback, Rayleigh is the one ordering Buggy and Shanks to stop fighting. Oda made sure when Toei Animation produced this episode that the script would not have them refer to him as captain. Nearly five hundred chapters later, he turns out to be the special coating mechanic the Straw Hats wanted.
  • Grandpa, What Massive Hotness You Have: However old he is, he's not bad-looking.
  • I Owe You My Life: Hatchan saved his life when he was a kid. That might be why he offered to coat the Thousand Sunny for the journey to Fishman Island for free, after Luffy saved Hatchan's life at the slave auction.
  • Ki Attacks: He's an Old Master of all forms of Haki, and is also the one who taught Luffy how to use it.
  • Manly Tears: He's strong enough to take an Admiral, feared by the Marines, and the Pirate King's second-in-command. Yet he's still not afraid to show his emotions. Can definitely count as a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.
  • Meaningful Name / Punny Name / Prophetic Name: Silvers Rayleigh is Gold Roger's First Mate. Was their Second Mate named Copper Jones?
    • Also, "Rayleigh" refers to "Rayleigh scattering", an optical phenomenon characterized by the scattering of light. As the first and only character able to break up Kizaru's light beams, it's fitting.
  • Names to Run Away From Really Fast: See Badass Nickname above. If that doesn't do it, how about "Right Hand of the Pirate King"?
  • Number Two: To Roger.
  • Old Master
  • Pre-Ass-Kicking One-Liner: When the Straw Hats are making it back to the Thousand Sunny post time-skip, he cuts off the Marines who are pursuing them, and then draws a line in the ground:

"My apprentice is setting sail. Do as you please. But I would suggest that you do not cross this line."

  • Pure Awesomeness: Knocked out an entire crowd of watchers with this when the Straw Hats caused a scene in the Auctioning House. Even a member of the Heart Pirates, which is assuredly a Badass Crew considering their captain is Supernova Trafalgar Law, nearly fainted from his awesomeness.
  • Retired Badass: He has since quit piracy, but he's still awesome enough to go toe-to-toe with an Admiral even in his old age and even cut him despite him being a Logia-type. And all this after twenty years of non-action.
  • Trickster: He gambles his money away, and to pay off old debts, he allows himself to be captured and sold as a slave. Because he looks like an unassuming old man, no-one notices that capturing the Roger Pirates Number Two is playing with fire, so he would usually steal the money of whatever schmuck with more cash than brains once he's bought off, pay off his old debts, and start gambling again. He actually highlights that buying him is bona-fide Schmuck Bait as in his words: "Who'd want to buy me as a slave? I'm an old man!"

Emporio Ivankov

"We have crossed this barrier called 'gender!'"
Voiced by: Norio Imamura (JP, episodes 438-460), Mitsuo Iwata (JP, episodes 461+)

The former ruler of Kamabakka Kingdom, Emporio Ivankov, or Iva for short, is a transvestite known as a "Miracle Worker" for saving the lives of several people. However, because he's also a commander of the Revolutionaries trying to overthrow the World Government and a comrade of Dragon, he was captured and put into the world's worst prison, Impel Down. Iva is flamboyant, like Mr. 2 Bon Clay, and has a habit of panicking, then saying the opposite of what he said earlier. He is very proud of being a transvestite and of the the people he ruled over in a hidden level of Impel Down, even expressing his ideals about it, and doesn't care if anyone disagrees with his views. In fact, he has made enemies of people who were furious that spreading this view had affected them personally, but doesn't seem to care about that either, and dealt with it in his own, unique way.

Ivankov's power comes from eating the Horm-Horm Fruit (Horu Horu no Mi), which allows him to inject hormones into the human body. These hormones can cause sex changes, increased adrenaline, bodily growth, and other things, which in his words make him an "engineer of the human body". This is the reason that he was able to heal many people from the brink of death. However, he claims he's not a "Miracle Worker," and merely allowed people with the "Will to Live" to go on. He can't help those who don't have the drive to help themselves. He is also a master of Newkama Kenpo.

  • Agent Peacock, to the core!
  • Attractive Bent Gender: While damn weird-looking as a man, his female form is both attractive and well endowed. You know it's true.
  • Badass: Yes, really!
  • Berserk Button: He hates it when people forget his face, on the completely logical grounds that it's damn hard. No matter how hard you try....
  • Big Head Mode
  • Catch Phrase: "HEEHAW!"
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: The guy sent Kuma groggy with a dropkick. He was also the only one to actually wound Magellan in a confrontation during the Impel Down arc, and after meeting Sanji, he kicked his ass in less than a panel. Also, having this is pretty much a required secondary power when he can quintuple the size of his already massive head.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Even Bon Kurei, an eccentric himself, thinks he's nuts. And this is Bon Kurei the Camp Gay, extremely eccentric ballerina!
  • Demon Head: Weaponized.
  • Determinator: Is one himself, by virtue of coming back after getting poisoned by Magellan, and can bring out this quality in others; specifically, his "Healing Hormones" allow a terminally ill patient to survive by drawing on their willpower, even if it is a rather slim chance.
  • Eye Beams: Technically his "DEATH WINK", although it's not a 'beam', but a blast of air pressure.
    • Shockwave Clap: Basically how Death Wink works, only replace hands with thick eyelashes.
  • Finger-Poke of Doom: As previously mentioned, his main form of offense is the "DEATH WINK!"
  • Funny Afro: Which is so epic he carries people around by hiding them in it.
  • Gag Lips: One of his attacks (anime only) involves propelling himself towards his opponent lips-first in order to slam them.
  • Gender Bender: His Devil Fruit ability allows him to change the gender of the manliest of men to the shapeliest of women and vice-versa, including himself.
  • Gonk
  • Gratuitous English: He calls the Newkama his "Candy Boys" and uses English for his attack "Death Wink".
  • Heroic Sociopath: For a good guy, he's pretty frightening. And I'm not just talking about his appearance. Even Kuma was afraid of him, who keep in mind, was infamously violent enough to be nicknamed "The Tyrant". Now that he's a robot, he no longer feels emotion. But that won't stop Ivankov from beating the fear back into him.
  • Ink Suit Actor: While the resemblance to Tim Curry is uncanny, he is really based on Norio Imamura, one of Mayumi Tanaka's dance troupe. Ivankov's name comes from the occassion when Oda first met Imamura, he thought his face looked like a boulder, and thought his name was Iwamura. ("Iwa" means "boulder"). When Imamura found out the character was based on him, he immediately auditioned for the voice role of Ivankov and got it.
  • La Résistance: A commander of the main Revolutionary army opposing the World Government and got jailed for it.
  • Large and In Charge: Formerly the ruler of Kamabakka Kingdom and ruler of "New Kama Paradise". He's at least twice as tall as an average person and has a giant head, which he can enlarge even further for maximum intimidation.
  • Made of Diamond: He flew lips-first into Akainu's magma fist and yet survived.
  • Mitsuo Iwata: His 2nd voice.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Dr. Frank N Furter.
  • Number Two: Even though there's more than one commander in the Revolutionaries, it's implied he was specifically this to Dragon.
  • The Other Darrin: Ivankov was originally voiced by Norio Imamura, who turned out to be the original inspiration behind the character, but he was arrested for posting pictures on his blog showing off some body art, which counts as indecent exposure in Japan. And so the role had to be recast.
  • Refuge in Audacity: His entire existence.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: Being with the Revolutionaries will inevitably lead to their ideas going through violent means. His experience with violence was probably the reason that the prison breakout was so successful...
  • Stocking Filler: Fishnet stockings are valued by male, female, and other Newkama alike. Ivankov is no exception.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: You saw that picture up there, right? Damn, that's... it's not ugly, but kind of disturbing to some people. Now, this is what he looks like as a woman.
  • Transvestite: And damn proud of it.
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup
  • Verbal Tic: He usually says "able" at the end of his sentences.
  • Warts and All: Bon Clay had a tough time believing Ivankov was the miraculous person he thought he was after seeing the guy's eccentricity (and this is compared with Bon Clay, so that's really saying something), only changing his mind when Ivankov deflected a cannonball with a wink and turned the guy who fired it into a woman. A lesser version of this happens a little later, when Ivankov dismisses Bon Clay's claims that he is a miracle worker and a god among Okama, saying that in the stories Bon Clay mentioned, he didn't miraculously heal people, he only brought out their inner will to live.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: A color-spread and the anime show his hair is indigo.


Inazuma

Inazuma is a Revolutionary commander and Ivankov's right-hand man. He ate the Snip-Snip Fruit (Choki Choki no Mi), which allows him to turn his hands into large scissors that can cut solid objects like paper. Thanks to Ivankov's Devil Fruit Powers, he sometimes appears as a woman.

Jinbe, "First Son of The Sea"

"It's not my body that hurts! Ace... what hurts is my heart... that can't enforce justice!"

Voiced by: Daisuke Gouri (JP, episodes 430-432), Katsuhisa Houki (JP, episodes 440+)

The last of the Seven Warlords to be formally introduced. Jinbe is a whale-shark Fishman and the former captain of the Pirates of the Sun after the death of Fisher Tiger. His becoming a Warlord eight years before the events of the main story saw the crew split up, with one faction headed by the Complete Monster Arlong. He is also a master of Fishman Karate, the most skilled user in the series in fact.

He claims to be indebted to Whitebeard, as because of that man's declaration Fishman Island was spared from the marauding slavers that often kidnapped Fishmen and Merpeople for sale in the slave trade. He also has a grudging respect for Portgas D. Ace, having apparently fought him some time in the past. Possibly as a result of this, Jinbe doesn't seem to hold humans in such low regard, or at least isn't as open about it, rather presenting himself as someone who wishes to keep events at a relatively peaceful equilibrium. 

Luffy has asked him to join his crew. However, Jinbe turned him down for the time being, stating there was some business he needs to do first (said business turns out to be wanting to break ties with Big Mom). Then he will join if Luffy still wants him (like that needs to be said).
  • Animal Motifs: The shark, being a whale shark fishman.
  • Badass: He can make shockwaves in the air with a punch, thrust the sea into the air with his bare hands like it was silk, fight Portgas D. Ace for five days to a standstill, knock out a fellow Warlord with one punch, and talk to whale sharks (something that's rare of his species). He's basically One Piece's answer to Aquaman.
  • Blow You Away: His Karakusagawara Seiken creates a shockwave that blows away enemies.
    • More accurately, he uses the water in the human body to attack his foes, not unlike blood bending.
  • Call a Smeerp a Rabbit: He looks less like a whale shark and more like a guardian lion with gill slits and blue skin.
    • He's also similar to an Oni demon.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's like a third dad to Luffy.
  • Death Seeker: He makes it clear a number of times that he expects to die during the Marineford battle.
  • Delayed Causality: His Karakusagawara Seiken. After throwing the punch the shock wave takes a couple of seconds to take effect. In the anime this is stretched out and has the shock wave build up to its full effect.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: To Luffy, to make him realise that even if he has lost his brother, he still has to get his crew back together.
  • I Know Karate: Fishman Karate to be exact.
  • Large and In Charge: He's a whale-shark fishman, so naturally he looms over most normal characters.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Obviously becomes one underwater, but this applies even in land battles. Gecko Moria lampshades it: "You're fast for a big fellow!" He also is able to keep up with Luffy in their brief skirmish, although to be fair, neither opponent really wanted to seriously injure the other.
  • Lost in Translation: His title is a pun on a Yakuza title and the word for a channel. This doesn't carry into English, leading to the "First Son of the Sea" approximation.
  • Made of Iron: No explanation is given on how he survived Akainu's lava fist through the chest.
  • Making a Splash: When he finally gets into the water, he uses his karate moves to throw around torrents of water as if they were silk.
  • Manly Tears: He cried when his captain Fisher Tiger died, when Ace died, and when Nami told him that she forgave him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He let his hatred for humans get the best of him and wound up indirectly responsible for Arlong comitting his atrocities, which includes causing Nami's tragic past. He feels quite ashamed of this.
  • My Greatest Failure: He feels this way about how his becoming a Warlord of the Sea basically allowed Arlong to run free in the East Blue. It's what leads him to be...
    • The Atoner: For allowing Arlong to rampage in the East Blue. Nami even notes how much it was eating him up inside.
  • Not So Stoic: While usually one of the most focused characters in the series, he can occasionally lose his cool, as shown in how he dealt with Ace's death. On a lighter note, see the Oh Crap entry below.
    • In chapter 650, after telling the Straw Hats some vital information, he gets a face fault at Luffy being more concerned about food. When he angrily berates Luffy for not taking the news seriously and Luffy cheerfully replies that he likes to leave things to chance, Jimbe goes into a minor depression and remarks to the others how hard it must be to have Luffy as a captain.
  • Oh Crap: His face fault after the timeskip when he sees Shirahoshi and a wounded Hachi with Luffy.
    • A more serious example is shown in the anime, when Sanji reveals to him how badly Nami had suffered under Arlong's tyranny.
  • The Other Darrin: He was initially voiced by the late Daisuke Gouri. Starting from episode 440, Katsuhisa Houki (Moria) took over the role.
  • Prongs of Poseidon: His weapon during his days in the Neptune Army.
  • Punny Name: Jinbei-zame means "whale-shark" in Japanese. Also, he wears a type of traditional Japanese tunic called a Jimbei.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He's the Blue, Ace the Red.
    • He's also the Blue in relation to Arlong's Red. Jinbei decides to take a reasonable approach to help the Fishmen/Merfolk relations to accept the World Government's request to be a Warlord, while Arlong chose to make himself "the wrath of the Fishmen" to humanity. Interestingly, they were both pretty firm Reds in the Sun Pirates, with Arlong being the calmer one.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right: In full defiance to Fishman Island's laws, Jinbei gives blood to Luffy.
    • Really, this is what Jinbe is all about. He refused to answer the World Government's call to fight Whitebeard because his homeland owed a debt to Whitebeard, which lead to Jinbe being arrested and sent to Impel Down. But by doing so, he befriended Luffy and defected to help Luffy and Whitebeard in rescuing Ace from his execution.
  • Shark Man: Specifically whale shark.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He can communicate with whale sharks, a trait that's unusual for fishmen to possess.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Due to different ways you can romanize Japanese, his name can be written as either Jinbe, Jinbei, or Jimbei.
    • The One Piece Databook Green decided to go with "Jinbe".
    • Viz and Funimation use "Jimbei".
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: At first, he seems to feel this way with regards to Hody Jones, as he feels if a human (Luffy) were to defeat him, the Cycle of Revenge would create some new tyrant like Jones was when Arlong was defeated. It turns out that he's merely opposed to Luffy beating up Hody without the support of the citizens of Fishman Island. If Luffy can come out of the ordeal looking like a hero to fishmen and merfolk, and not like a domineering human (the kind with which the island has plenty of experience), then Jinbe has no problems whatsoever.
  • We Will Meet Again: Heroic version done twice. First was when Jinbe said he'd see Luffy on Fishman Island. Second, when he said he'll be back to join the Straw Hats.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He was one when he was a member of the Sunny Pirates, championing fishman/merfolk rights, and he in particular was especially brutal during their battles with the Marines, to the point where even Arlong thought he was too rough.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: He considers himself useless on land. This is not really true despite him being a One Piece version of Aquaman - even without water to throw, he is still a huge fishman karate master capable of taking on top tier pirates and marines.
    • Heart Is an Awesome Power: As he explains to Luffy during their skirmish in the most recent chapter, the principle of Fishman Karate is that the user can manipulate water for their attacks, even if that water is in the atmosphere or in a person's body -- which means his very punch can create shockwaves potent enough to knock back Luffy, whose rubber body normally makes him immune to blunt attacks.
  • The Worf Effect: During said You Shall Not Pass moment below, Mihawk deals with Jinbe in a single blow.
    • On the bright side though, he managed to send him flying for a bit.
  • Worthy Opponent: Considers Ace one, as they fought for five days straight to a standstill.
  • Yakuza: It's in his full title, a translation of which could be "Jinbe, Yakuza of the Sea".
  • You Shall Not Pass: In the anime, he tries this on Mihawk, who is in the process of curb-stomping Luffy. Keyword being "tries".


Heracles

A strange warrior in beetle-style armor that lives at Boin Archapelago. He befriended Usopp when he was sent there by Kuma and taught him about Pop Greens.


Haredas

Voiced by: Rokuro Naya (JP)

An elderly meteorolgical scientist living on the sky island of Weatheria. He takes in Nami after she is sent there by Kuma and, along with his collegues, teaches her Meteorology and modifies her Clima-Tact for her.


Princess Shirahoshi

"It was the promise I made with mother on her deathbed!! That no matter who the criminal was, not to hate them!"
Voiced by: Yukana (JP)

The princess of the Ryuugu Kingdom. Was locked up in the castle tower to keep Vander Decken from killing her with his Devil Fruit ability. A surprisingly huge Giant Smelt-Whiting mermaid. I mean really huge.

  • Bare Your Midriff: She IS a mermaid after all.
  • The Beast Master: It is actually revealed that she has the power to summon and control huge (and I Mean HUGE) Sea Monsters in case of distress. That's why Vander Decken wants to marry her.
  • Blush Sticker
  • Boobs of Steel: Seemingly averted until you realize that she's the modern incarnation of the Ancient Weapon Poseidon and possesses the power to control Sea Kings and possibly use them to tear islands apart - fitting considering she has one of the largest pairs in the series.
  • Cry Cute: So much.
  • Cute Giant
  • Fragile Flower: For someone so huge she's quite fragile, she cries easily, and doesn't take being yelled at very lightly. She inherited this trait from her mother, but completely Up to Eleven.
  • Gentle Giant
  • Giant Equals Invincible: Complete aversion. Despite being the largest member of the royal family alongside her father, she has no fighting skill whatsoever.
  • Irony: The smelt-whiting are usually tiny, but Shirahoshi is the largest mermaid so far.
  • It Runs in The Family: Neptune is a pretty big guy, so her size is not that surprising.
    • Could also apply to her powers, which are the same as with a previous mermaid princess: Poseidon.
  • The Messiah: She inherited this from her mother. She knew who her mother's murderer was and she kept it to herself for 10 years, to honor her mother's promise not to bear ill will against her killer, and prevent the others looking for vengeance. However, this takes an even more disturbing twist when we find out that the one who killed Otohime was not one of the humans she was trying to make peace with, but a Fishman who was sick and tired of this very quality.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: She has the ability to summon and communicate with Sea Kings, a power that is said if used incorrectly, can destroy entire islands. Shirahoshi isn't the first to have this power, as the Poneglyph of Shandora describes a weapon called the "Poseidon", which was actually the Mermaid Princess at the time it was written. In such a sense, Shirahoshi is the new Poseidon.

  • Spoiled Sweet: She's very polite to everyone, even her stalker.

"Foxfire" Kin'emon

A samurai from Wano Country the Straw Hats meet on Punk Hazard. He is looking for his lost son, Momonosuke. When he arrived on the island, Trafalgar Law sliced up his body parts (head, torso, and legs), which were then scattered throughout the area. He also ate a still unnamed Devil Fruit that he believes allows him to use sorcery.

  • Badass: Stormed Punk Hazard just to retrieve his son; it took a Warlord to stop him and even as a legless, headless torso he can fight Brook on equal ground.
  • Dirty Old Man: Chastised Nami for her revealing clothes, only to admit that he didn't mind her dressing like that.
  • Dual-Wielding
  • Functional Magic: He ate a Devil Fruit that granted him the ill-defined ability of sorcery, which is activated by saying "poof". He uses this to turn rocks into winter clothing, though he warns the transformation will only last so long as the clothes are being worn.
  • Half the Man He Used To Be: Technically 1/3rd the man he used to be. He's currently a head attached to legs.
  • Gasshole: And he can communicate using his farts even!
  • Hotblooded Sideburns
  • Katanas Are Just Better: He uses two of 'em.

  • Master of Disguise: Implied to be the intended use of his Devil Fruit ability.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Played for laughs. When he reveals his powers, he's berated for not using them earlier. He admits that he didn't because he liked seeing Nami's cleavage.

  • Suicide as Comedy: Threatens seppuku at the slightest embarrassment. At the moment, he has neither weapons nor hands to act upon it.

A large yellow Thunder Bird (Raichou) created by SIQ produced by Dr Indigo. He makes friends with the Strawhats and helps them fight against his creators to the bitter end.
