Generation I
Alacia
Guile Mercenti
The Duke of Selisshan, a territory in Western Alacia near the Arad'uun border. His father and the former Rainahd chief were allies.
- Badass Long Hair / Badass Longcoat
- Blue Eyes: Piercing and icy. Ironically, water and ice are the only kinds of elemental magic he can't use.
- Celibate Hero: His loyalty still lies with his deceased fiancee.
- Combat Pragmatist
- Consummate Liar: He prefers being truthful, but if he has to lie, he does it very well.
- Elemental Powers: Fire, earth, wind, and lightning.
- Gentleman and a Scholar
- Guile Hero: Most of his personality was based on this concept. Not his name, though.
- Living Lie Detector: No supernatural abilities for it; he's just good at reading people and looking for telltale signs.
- Magic Knight: Not only is he a talented mage, but he's skilled with a quarterstaff and has a physical build better suited for a melee fighter.
- Mighty Glacier: He's not a quick caster, but both his magic and physical strength are impressive and he wears armor.
- Minored in Asskicking
- Noble Fugitive: Guile's the only thing standing in the way of his old neighbor Duke Maxell Raxis taking over Selisshan's territory, and Raxis isn't one to pass up any opportunity to eliminate the competition.
- Non-Idle Rich
- Modest Royalty: Or Nobility, in this case. Still doesn't stop him from inadvertently standing out.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name is Maurice, but no one outside of Selisshan knows that. He goes by Guile Selden.

Maximillion Zwingley
The Duke of Fidona and one of the biggest idealists on the Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism. Probably also one of the most clearly heroic characters. Despite being 3rd Tier, he is constantly made fun of.

- Super Strength: Acquired at third tier.
- Think Nothing of It: Pretty much the way he treats every situation in which he's saved someone.

- 24-Hour Armor: Even at Chester and Dineyl's wedding.
- World's Strongest Man: Because of above.
- You Can Barely Stand: Has had a couple of these moments.
Richter Vastor
A sage from Alacia specializing in Wind Magic, he wanders in search of knowledge. Loyal, honest and kind, to a fault, his Achilles' Heel is his embarrassment around females.

A member of the Knights Celestia and one of the strongest people in the world. Former duchess of Goshen.

Arad'uun
Ellis Nineveh
A young man of the Nineveh, a tribe of forest Vikings that are more or less stuck in Dark Age Europe. Brash, eager, and impossible to get along with, no matter how powerful he becomes he remains one of Skylessia's premier Butt Monkeys.
- A Man Is Not a Virgin: Ellis subverted this until Amaranth got her hands on him.
- Awesome but Impractical: Ellis's weapon of choice, Revolution, is a 3 foot long, glorified magically spinning pizza cutter. It doesn't stop him from using it a lot.

- Kick the Dog: Inflicted on his son in a Bad Future, culminating in hitting him in the face and telling him that he should have died instead of his sister.

- Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: At 15, the youth age limit for a Skylessia PC, Ellis killed many, many people with barely a second thought, much to the consternation of those who saw him as no more than a child.
- 24-Hour Armor: Utterly played straight, and deconstructed. Non-Nineveh think it's completely bizarre that he wears his armor everywhere he goes.

Mairenn Trenor
A young woman from the Trenor clan, a small tribe in northern Arad'uun. She's generally calm and easy-going. One of the many women involved with Vadim Itzal.
- Anti-Magic/Power Nullifier: Her main bow dampens the effects of magic both ways - mages hit with an arrow from it become weaker, while she also gets a boost in resistance. While it doesn't completely nullify magic, it's still enough for the trope to apply. Impressive for simply finding it lying around in a storeroom.
- The Archer: She's a Ranger.
- Blade on a Stick: Lances are her secondary weapon.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: She had it once, and it was the focus of an RP plot.

- The Alcoholic: Used to be this after being betrayed by his country, but he got better and vowed to stop drinking again. He's had one drink since, and that was when he thought he was going to freeze to death in a blizzard.
- Blue Eyes: of the icy and piercing variety.
- The Captain: Was this in the Devlani military, before he was blacklisted as an insurrectionist.
- Deadpan Snarker: Doesn't say much, but when he does it sometimes falls into this category.
- Defector From Decadence: Starts speaking out against the oppressive government after a member of his batallion kills an innocent woman. It doesn't go very well.
- Heroic BSOD: Experiences one while living in Valhassa after getting thrown overboard of a ship and left for dead. He gets better.
- The Stoic: Mostly, but lately that's been changing as he's been dealing with Devlan directly.

- Bad Powers, Good People: As a Shaman, he uses Dark magic, which is often viewed as evil and corrupting. But he's actually a pleasant guy if you can get past his mistrust and defenses.
- Black Magic: It's implied that he's addicted to using Dark magic, and that it has been gradually and subtly affecting his personality for the worse.
- Book Dumb: He's dyslexic, and can read, but it's very difficult. He makes up for it with keen observation and a good memory, and doesn't need tomes to cast magic.
- The Captain (in training): If anything happens to the current captain of the Black Phoenix, Marik's next in line to take command.
- Claustrophobia: A mild and somewhat specific case: He doesn't mind small spaces, per se, but put him in an isolated space with anything remotely resembling a restraint...
- Deadpan Snarker
- Distinguishing Mark: The stylized phoenix tattoos on his neck and arm that represent his belonging to the crew of the ship Black Phoenix; the blackened skin and scarring on his chest and back from a Corruption spell; and most recently, scars on his wrists and ankles from being stuck in shackles for a month. Considering he's currently a fugitive, each of these also doubles as a Mark of Shame.

- Hurting Hero: He became a fugitive after escaping arrest for crimes he didn't commit. Anyone attached to him runs the risk of getting involved in the mess, forcing him to adapt a Jerkass Facade to try to keep them at bay despite the loneliness it brings.
- Knight in Sour Armor: Trauma has turned him cynical and bitter, yet he still cares for the world and those in it and goes to great lengths to help people, with no concern for his own safety.
- Light Is Not Good: The Light magic-wielding priests and elders of his village get very heavy-handed in their efforts to root out "evil" Dark magic.
- Living Lie Detector: He's not foolproof, but he's good at noticing even slight tells.

- Messy Hair
- Mistaken for Murderer: A string of coincidences and mistrust led to Marik being falsely accused of participating in mass murders while trying to help a sick friend. To protect her, he refused to fully explain himself to the priests who apprehended him, and was shipped off to The Alcatraz for his troubles (but escaped on the way there). He's now a wanted fugitive and would like nothing more than to be able to clear the accusations against him and return home.
- Mysterious Past: Even Marik doesn't know what happened before he was six years old.
- Pirate: Type 2. The Black Phoenix only targets other pirates and the occasional merchant who is already suitably well-off and usually arrogant. Marik was kept out of harm's way during skirmishes.
- Real Men Wear Pink: He embroiders designs of plants and animals on his clothes, and expect a scathing rebuttal if you try to mock him for it.
- Shout-Out: The ship Vastmark and its captain, Dhirken, are Shout Outs to Wars of Light and Shadow.
- Stoic Woobie: He'll show pleasant emotions, even if they're faked, but he does his best to hide his real suffering. It doesn't always work.

- Actual Pacifist: He hates fighting and dreads the thought of killing, but mercenary work was the only real choice he had to earn the money he needs; as a result, he's become a very Reluctant Warrior.
- Beware the Nice Ones: He's a compassionate guy, albeit with poor social skills, pacifistic, and has a background in medical training. He also knows how to prepare healing salves and poisons, is good at utilizing his surroundings and ascertaining weaknesses, and has enough skill and speed with both bows and swords to be able to hit them while running circles around you. It turns out that getting him mad really isn't a good idea.
- Brainy Brunette: An uncommon male example.
- Celibate Hero: He's not even one for contact as basic as holding hands. The thought of sex very much Squicks him out.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: He just can't pass up an opportunity to help out, even if it lands him in trouble.
- Combat Medic: Although a mercenary by profession, his real talent lies in his medical training.
- The Determinator
- Fragile Speedster
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: He doesn't view his skills or accomplishments as anything special and constantly berates himself as useless.
- Heroic Spirit: His miserable self-image belies his real determination and inner strengths.
- Honor Before Reason: He'll go out of his way to avoid killing his enemies, even if doing so would save him a lot of trouble in the end.
- Iron Woobie: He spent most of his life getting constantly berated by his stepfather for everything he did, even taking the irrational blame for his stepbrother, Jeremy, getting sick, effectively destroying his self-esteem. Yet he still started training in swordsmanship and became a mercenary - an entirely ill-suited choice for his pacifistic nature - just so he could get the money to pay for a rumored treatment for his brother's paralysis, despite this decision resulting in his stepfather banning him from his own home until he could come back with fame and fortune. All to see Jeremy walk again.
- Loyal Animal Companion: Diablo the Mauthe Doog.

- The Nondescript: In a setting with so many characters having distinctive traits that would set them apart in a crowd, Samson is remarkably unremarkable.
- Parental Substitute: Callan acted as this in absence of his stepfather's emotional support.
- Super Hearing: And it annoys him to no end.
- Weak but Skilled: Sort of; he's got skill and speed on his side moreso than brute strength, but physically he's still not exactly a pushover.

Alzabez Kerchaj
A major in the Val Mae military and a former arena fighter. Calm, collected, good-humored, and sociable, she is an overall Nice Gal and befriends people easily.
