Ahri the 9 Tails Fox
Aatrox, the Darkin Blade
"Mercy is a human luxury, and responsibility.”
Once revered as valiant protectors of Shurima against the menacing Void, Aatrox and his compatriots eventually evolved into an even more formidable menace to Runeterra. Their defeat was solely achieved through the cunning employment of mortal sorcery. However, following an extensive period of incarceration spanning centuries, Aatrox emerged as the first to regain his liberty, corrupting and metamorphosing those audacious enough to attempt to wield the enchanted weapon that encapsulated his very essence. Presently, adorned with pilfered flesh, he traverses Runeterra in a savage imitation of his former self, relentlessly pursuing an apocalyptic retribution that has long been overdue.

A magical fox from Ionia who longed to be human. While scavenging a sundered battlefield left by the Noxian invasion of Ionia, she found a dying mage and absorbed his life essence, giving her a humanoid form, but still leaving her incomplete. She used her magical powers and her seductive charm to absorb the energies of more men in an effort to complete her transformation, but she soon discovered another aspect of humanity that she had gained: a conscience. Filled with regret, Ahri turned to the League, where she hoped to find a way to achieve her humanity without taking the lives of innocents.

"Mercy is a human luxury, and responsibility.”Ahri, a enigmatic vastaya with fox-like characteristics, is intrinsically linked to the enchantment of the spirit realm. She used her magical powers and her seductive charm to absorb the energies of more men in an effort to complete her transformation, but she soon discovered another aspect of humanity that she had gained: a conscience.
Ahri is a mage-type assassin champion with a lot of mobility and multi-targeting spells. She can throw a boomerang ball of energy that deals unblockable true damage on the return trip, release three spirit flames to strike nearby enemies, blow a kiss that causes an enemy hit to walk towards her in a trance, and her ultimate lets her dash a short distance up to three times, releasing bolts of energy with each jump. Her passive stores up charges whenever her spells hit an enemy. When she has nine charges, her next spell heals her for a percentage of the damage done.

* Addictive Magic: As a result of Ahri's ability to drain the essence of others, she not only gains magical power but also glimpses into their memories. This unique aspect of her powers has led to her developing an addiction to draining individuals, as it has become necessary to sustain her abilities. Unfortunately, as Ahri continued to drain people, the memories she acquired began to include visions of individuals perceiving her as a malevolent nine-tailed fox demon. This revelation caused her addiction to spiral out of control, resulting in her draining an entire village. Overwhelmed with disgust for her actions, Ahri has since made earnest attempts to break free from or regulate her addiction. However, when her cravings remain unsatisfied for an extended period, Ahri faces a genuine risk of succumbing to her urges and draining people indiscriminately. Throughout her journey in Ruined King, Ahri gradually gains more control over her addiction.

* Bad Powers, Good People: Ahri's incredible power to drain people's souls and absorb their memories and emotions may sound terrifying. But as she consumed more, she unexpectedly developed a conscience and now goes to great lengths to avoid causing harm.
* Become a Real Human: Originally, she was a fox that became human. This is removed in the new continuity, instead she's a vastaya.

But, in light of the recent Vastayan lore revision, she is presently regarded as the sole remainder of her species. Having been forsaken by her own tribe, she was subsequently embraced by a collective of icefoxes.

* Trans Nature: In the old continuity, she was a fox that wanted to become human. Now she's a magical hybrid with the ability to become more and more human. However, her method of doing this involved killing people, and as she became closer to human the morality of this started to bother her, leading to her joining the League to find an alternative method. Subverted, in the Vastayan race update, it's revealed that Ahri had always been a fox-human hybrid who was abandoned by her tribe for reasons unknown.

A member of the Kinkou, an order dedicated to maintaining perfect balance, Akali was the last of the game's three Ninja to be introduced. Akali is a fighter-type assassin champion who, like the other ninja champions, uses a fixed Energy Meter as a resource. She can throw her kama to mark and enemy and deal extra damage to them with her next melee attack, use a smoke bomb to gain defense and become stealthed, slash nearby enemies with an area-of-effect attack, and dash at enemies with flying kicks that can be stored for rapid use (up to 3 times at once). Her passive gives her two bonuses: attack damage from items gives her extra spell vamp (her abilities heal her), and ability power gives her standard attacks extra magic damage.

He fell for a fellow slave, and upon learning she had been sold went nuts, broke out of slavery, and became a traveling mercenary to try to find her. True to his origins, Alistar excels in physical combat and escaping from bondage.

New Lore: The greatest warrior of the Minotaur tribes living in the Great Barrier, he successfully defended his tribe from all threats... until the Noxian Army arrived. Lured from his village by the commander of the Noxian expeditionary force, he returned to find it in flames and his family dead. Enraged, he charged into an entire regiment of the Noxian`s elite, killing them by many score, until some of the best summoners of Noxus intervened. Taken in chains, he was forced to fight as a gladiator for Noxus` wealthy leaders. Though being slowly driven insane by the endless combat he had to partake in, a young servant girl named Ayelia befriended him and helped him escape. Alistar joined the Institute of War as a champion, hoping to find Ayelia and take revenge upon Noxus someday.

Alistar is a tank-type champion with a ground-slam that throws enemies into the air and stuns them, a headbutt that launches enemies back, a group-healing roar which can be used more often when nearby allies are dying, and a berserk state which briefly gives him massive damage reduction and bonus damage. His passive lets him trample over enemies, passing through units and damaging nearby enemy units and buildings alike, every time he uses an ability.

Anivia now acts as Runeterra's elemental protector of ice, and has even entrusted summoners to seek out a way to call forth more of her phoenix fellows.

Anivia is a mage-type champion who can shoot exploding balls of ice that stun enemies, create temporary walls of ice, shoot gusts of wind that deal double damage to enemies hit by one of her other attacks, and flap out a blizzard that deals damage and slows enemies. Her passive is very unique and is one of the few passives that operate with a cooldown. After dying, Anivia becomes an egg and instantly recovers full health. If the egg survives for six seconds, Anivia will emerge with the same health percentage as the egg had.

But usually, when you're in a situation when you actually die, you're most likely gonna get killed as an egg. Doesn't help that even if your egg survives, you're reborn with the same HP as your egg. Which means you're screwed if everyone decides to attack you. Casting Teleport while you're almost but certainly dead and will be eggified is a very important tactic for playing Anivia to ensure that her death count is always 0.

An unimaginable horror from a crawling place lost between dimensions. Cho'Gath attempted to break into the physical realm to devour and make it into a hellish playground, but got caught in a summon spell and ended up bound by the League. It is heavily implied that it only allows himself to be bound because it entertains him, and that he would be able to release himself with relative ease if he wanted to.

Cho'Gath is a fighter-type champion who restores health and mana whenever he kills something. He can cause spikes to rupture from the ground to knock-up enemies, silence foes with a terrifying roar, add waves of spikes to his attacks, or devour his enemies to gain permanent size and health (until death, at least).

He already heals .3% every second anyways due to his passive, which is also amplified by Spirit Visage. A Force of Nature and/or Warmog's Armor adds even more regen. That means you probably need to burn down about 7500 HP through tank items. If you consider the fact that Mundo also has a aura that will burn YOU down as you try to kill him (whose HP cost to Mundo is neutralized by his crazy regen) and that he has an ability that does more damage the more HP he is missing, this means he can fight 3v1 and win. However, Madred's Bloodrazor (which adds 4% of target's max HP as magic damage, which is reduced accordingly by magic resist) and things like Ignite that inflict Grievous Wound (which halves healing effects) can make Dr. Mundo relatively easier to burn down; in draft-pick games, people can see Dr. Mundo coming and make some necessary adjustments. In the most common game type, blind-pick, however...

This is part of the character sheet for the game League of Legends. Check back often, as new champions are added regularly. This page contains all champions beginning with the letters A through F.

A

Aatrox, the Darkin Blade

Associated tropes:

Ahri the 9 Tails Fox

"Mercy is a human luxury, and responsibility.”

Ahri, a enigmatic vastaya with fox-like characteristics, is intrinsically linked to the enchantment of the spirit realm.

Ahri's alternate skins include Dynasty Ahri, Midnight Ahri, Popstar Ahri, K/DA Ahri, Academy Ahri, Star Guardian Ahri and Spirit Blossom Ahri.

Associated tropes:

  • Addictive Magic: As a result of Ahri's ability to drain the essence of others, she not only gains magical power but also glimpses into their memories.
  • The Ageless
  • The Atoner
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Ahri's incredible power to drain people's souls and absorb their memories and emotions may sound terrifying. But as she consumed more, she unexpectedly developed a conscience and now goes to great lengths to avoid causing harm.
  • Become a Real Human: Originally, she was a fox that became human. This is removed in the new continuity, instead she's a vastaya.
  • Charm Person: Her unique form of crowd control.
  • Detached Sleeves
  • Eyes of Gold
  • Facial Markings: The whisker-like marks on her cheeks.
  • Fantastic Foxes
  • Femme Fatale: The straightest example in the game, although she's trying to reform.
  • Foil: To Warwick. Warwick is tanky DPS while Ahri is an AP assassin.
  • Horny Devils: Her lore and Femme Fatale attitude allude this being the life-harvesting method she's trying to drop.
  • Idol Singer: Her Popstar and K/DA skins.
  • Impossibly Low Neckline
  • Kitsune: Although referred to in development as a Gumiho, the Korean equivalent, hence her vampiric nature.
  • Little Bit Beastly
  • Ms. Fanservice: Between her short skirt, low-cut top and kemonomimi, Ahri immediately shot straight to the top of the "most desirable girls in the League" lists, inducing massive amounts of Perverse Sexual Lust in the fanbase.
  • Multiple-Tailed Beast: Duh.
  • Orgasmic Combat: Perhaps not the fighting itself, but her death cries deserve special mention.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: She's essentially an energy vampire.
  • Playing with Fire: They're probably Cold Flames, but hell if that matters; they work just fine.
  • Prehensile Tail
  • Raised by Wolves
  • Retcon: Initially, Ahri possessed inherent magical abilities prior to assimilating the life essence of a dying mage, thereby augmenting her powers to a greater extent. But, in light of the recent Vastayan lore revision, she is presently regarded as the sole remainder of her species. Having been forsaken by her own tribe, she was subsequently embraced by a collective of icefoxes.
  • Rule of Three: Three of her skills use this rule. First, her innate Essence Theft activates her spellvamp passive after hitting nine enemies, up to a maximum of three per spell casted; in short it takes a minimum of three spells to activate this skill, or 3x3. Second, Fox-Fire summons three fireballs around her that will home in to the nearest enemy unit. Third, her ultimate, Spirit Rush, allows her to dash to a target area up to three times, sending out flares that target up to three enemy units.
  • Trans Nature: In the old continuity, she was a fox that wanted to become human.
  • The Vamp: She was able to lure men with her beauty and charm to drain their life. One of her skills (Charm) actually uses this. Also works as A Worldwide Punomenon.
  • Videogame Dashing: Her ultimate.

Akali the Fist of Shadow

"The Fist of Shadow strikes from the cover of death itself. Do not impede the balance."

A member of the Kinkou, an order dedicated to maintaining perfect balance, Akali was the last of the game's three Ninja to be introduced. She is a martial artist and followed in her mother's footsteps, inheriting the "Fist of Shadow" title from her. The Kinkou's duty is to assassinate people according to portents their culture perceives in the stars to maintain the order of the world, and she works with the other two "shadow warriors", Kennen and Shen, to accomplish this.

Akali's alternate skins include Stinger Akali, Crimson Akali, All-Star Akali, Nurse Akali, Silverfang Akali and Blood Moon Akali.

Associated tropes:

  • Action Girl
  • Ancient Tradition
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: An inherent rule built into the game. Kinkou champions have one less HP (out of, at minimum, a few hundred) per ninja in the match.
  • Cool Mask: Featured in her Blood Moon Akali skin. But rather than wearing it over her face, she keeps it pushed onto the top of her head.
  • The Faceless: Ultimately averted, as two skins have been released which show her face.
  • Fan Service: This [dead link] is concept art released as a preview. This is her final design after fan criticism.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: People have complained that the Kinkou don't play the way Ninja would be expected to. While this is not untrue (see the next entry down), other champions (Shaco and Evelynn) got to that playstyle first.
  • Glass Cannon
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: She does get a smoke bomb to conceal herself and slow all enemies in it, but other than that her stealth abilities are limited to hiding in the tall grass scattered around the maps, which all champions can do. Including the pirate.
  • Instant Awesome, Just Add Ninja: She's a flippin' ninja!
  • Kill Steal: As an assassin, of course she throws a lot of stuff out at once and bursts enemies down so naturally assassins will run in and Kill Steal. Akali, however, seems programmed to receive kills no matter what. It's been said that she can just sit back and dance during a team fight and receive a pentakill.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Not as blatant as the likes of Miss Fortune, but memetically considered one of the most desirable characters in the game by the fanbase.
  • Naughty Nurse Outfit: One of her skins.
  • Ninja: A flippin' one!
  • One-Man Army: Once she's got her core items, there's not much you can do to stop a good Akali.
  • Passing the Torch: She inherited the "Fist of Shadow" title from her mother.
  • Power Trio: With Kennen and Shen.
  • Rapunzel Hair: She has an exceptionally long ponytail.
  • Sideboob: Prominently featured on her basic skin.
  • Smoke Out
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Her Nurse skin. Grade A. Fuck yeah.

Alistar the Minotaur

"If you intend to grab the bull by the horns as a summoner, Alistar might have something to say about that."

Old Lore: The last of his tribe, an extremely strong minotaur who was imprisoned after his clan was wiped out and turned into a slave.

Enraged, he charged into an entire regiment of the Noxian's elite, killing them by many score, until some of the best summoners of Noxus intervened. Taken in chains, he was forced to fight as a gladiator for Noxus' wealthy leaders.

Alistar's alternate skins include Black Alistar, Golden Alistar, Matador Alistar, Longhorn Alistar and Unchained Alistar.

Associated tropes:

Amumu the Sad Mummy

"Things are bad when Amumu is crying, but they're much worse when he's angry."
Ezreal

A Yordle mummy who woke up in a pyramid with no memory of his previous life but aching sadness and anger. He alternates between constant crying and depression and huge and angry temper tantrums. He joined the League in search of company, as well as a place to discover more things about his past.

Amumu is a tank-type champion who reduces his enemies magic resistance, with his melee attacks, throw his bandages to yank himself close to enemies while stunning them, and use two short-range area-of-effect spells; despair-inducing tears which deal a percent of the enemy's health back to them as continuous damage, and a burst damage spin attack that cools down faster when he takes physical damage. His ultimate engulfs the surrounding area in bandages, causing all foes caught to be disabled for two seconds.

Amumu's alternate skins include Pharoah Amumu, Vancouver Amumu, Emumu, Re-gift Amumu, Almost-Prom King Amumu and Little Knight Amumu.

Associated tropes:

Anivia the Cryophoenix

"Some say the world will end in fire, some in ice. Anivia awaits the inevitable latter."

Anivia is an immortal goddess from a parallel world covered in eternal winter. Having seen worlds renewed in her time, the summoning to the League of Legends was not a surprise to herself.

Anivia's alternate skins include Team Spirit Anivia, Bird of Prey Anivia, Noxus Hunter Anivia and Hextech Anivia.

Associated tropes:

  • Action Girl: Well, she is female...
  • An Ice Person
  • Big Badass Bird of Prey: All of her skins are this by default, Bird of Prey Anivia doubly so.
  • Death Is a Slap on The Wrist: Has a chance of resurrecting with full HP as her special skill (well, she is a Phoenix, after all).
  • Difficult but Awesome: Very slow, fragile and relies on combos. Combos that if pulled off correctly, can deal high damage in a couple seconds even without items.
  • Game Breaking Bug: Possibly the most severe case, to the point that it was patched within the hour. Anivia has a skill that shoots out a ball of ice, slowing people in its path and detonating at the end of the path (can be manually detonated too) to stun anyone the small detonation hits. However, a long time ago after a patch, this skill was bugged so that the range the detonation would stun was global, meaning she could sit in the fountain and spam the skill and the entire enemy team would be helpless but to take damage and be stunned every couple of seconds the entire game.
  • Geo Effects: Anivia can temporarily make terrain that can't be moved through with her Ice Wall ability. In the right situations, this can really screw up the opposing team. And in the wrong hands, can put up a wall right behind a fleeing enemy and stop them from being chased down.
  • Giant Flyer
  • Glass Cannon
  • Our Monsters Are Different: Phoenixes are usually associated with fire, so Anivia's instead a goddess of ice.
  • The Phoenix: Replace fire with ice, and there you go.
  • Physical God
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes are red, likely to contrast with her being entirely blue, but she's otherwise a perfectly good character, averting the connotations.
  • Steampunk: Her Hextech skin.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Well, she IS a phoenix. And she can become even more phoenix by getting a Guardian Angel, an armor that revives you upon death.

Annie the Dark Child

"Annie may be one of the most powerful champions ever to have fought in a Field of Justice. I shudder to think of her capabilities when she becomes an adult."
High Councilor Kiersta Mandrake

Annie's parents were a witch and a warlock, and she was born with amazing magical powers. She carries around a stuffed toy called Tibbers which is actually a ferocious magical grizzly bear she polymorphed into her own personal body guard. She's a psychopathic pyromaniac on the Fields of Justice, but when she's not in the League she's just like any other adorable little girl... who happens to play with fire.

Annie is a mage-type champion who can shoot fireballs that restore their mana cost on kills, breathe cones of flame, cover herself in a shield of magma that returns damage from physical attacks, or turn her teddy bear Tibbers into a giant flaming monster. Her passive ability, aptly named Pyromania, enables a stun after Annie stacks five spells in a row.

Annie's alternate skins include Goth Annie, Riding Hood Annie, Annie in Wonderland (with Tibbers in a White Rabbit costume), Prom Queen Annie (with Tibbers in a tuxedo), Frostfire Annie (with a polar-bear Tibbers in a scarf and beanie), Reverse Annie (Annie wears a bear suit, Tibbers wears a dress) and FrankenTibbers Annie (with Tibbers as Frankenstein's Monster and Annie as the Bride of Frankenstein).

Associated tropes:

Ashe the Frost Archer

"It's a good idea to spread out. Ashe can hit five birds with one arrow."
Tryndamere

A descendant of a legendary Viking queen who wants to take over her competing tribes to bring peace to her icy homeland. A top-notch archer, she empowers her arrows with the magic of the frozen north for extra potency. Ashe is a ranged-DPS type champion with a passive that increases her critical strike chance while out of combat. She can enchant her basic attacks with slowing ice, fire a volley of freezing arrows in a cone, and animate ice hawks to scout terrain. Her ultimate is a giant crystal arrow that stuns the first champion it hits and has no limit to range, the stun increasing the further it flies.

Ashe's alternate skins include Freljord Ashe, Sherwood Ashe, Woad Ashe, Queen Ashe and Amethyst Ashe.

Associated tropes:

  • Action Girl
  • An Ice Person
  • The Archer
  • Arranged Marriage: After being crowned Queen of Freljord, she chose Tryndamere as her king to cement the alliance between the tribes of Freljord and his barbarian clan. While ostensibly a strictly political move, any actual feelings between the two of them are currently unknown.
  • Art Evolution: the beginning of the game then this and after the Darius Patch and here we are.
  • Boring but Practical: Considered one of the simplest characters to play ever, but undeniably one of the most effective.
  • Bounty Hunter: One of her passives gives her extra gold for every kill (it can also be activated to deploy a sight-giving owl; no, we don't get how those two mix either).
  • Captain Ersatz: Of Traxex, the Drow Ranger from Defense of the Ancients, in terms of her skill set.
  • Difficult but Awesome: Contrasting Boring but Practical, the sole exception is her big ultimate, which is quite easy to use badly, but if used well can literally turn a fight around.
  • Everything's Better with Princesses
  • Exposed to the Elements
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Of vikings.
  • Green Eyes: Add with white-haired, Stripperiffic, archer and Action Girl for extra sex appeal. Her background on the tundra also arguably goes along with the witchlike magical connotations of the trope.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Well, it can be tough for players to use at a decent distance, but it is not unknown for Ashe to make some ridiculous shots with her ultimate. Also, her other passive keeps increasing her crit-chance after a few seconds of non-combat have passed. At high levels, if she hasn't shot anything for 19 seconds, her next attack is guaranteed to crit.
  • Lady of War
  • Multishot
  • Peek-a-Bangs: In her older artwork and model. This visual trait was dropped after her model was remade with corresponding splash art.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Was a literal princess, who, as we know, is an Action Girl. Has been crowned queen of Freljord after managing to have the region be recognized as a state by the Institute of War, choosing Tryndamere as king to solidify the pact between their people to maintain stability in the area.
  • Trick Arrow: Ice arrows that can slow or stun.
  • White-Haired Pretty Girl: She had Hair of Gold, but it became white after divine providence saved her life solely from a horrific blizzard hitting right after a week-long standoff between her closest companions and an enemy tribe.
    • She still has Hair of Gold in her Freljord skin, which represents her before the blizzard.
  • Winter Royal Lady: Her Queen skin shows off her royal garb.

B

Blitzcrank the Great Steam Golem

"Though Blitzcrank may batter anything that stands in his way, he really has a heart of gold... encased in a framework of iron... in a carapace of steel."

A magical automaton created by a mad scientist from Zaun, Blitzcrank was originally built for cleaning up the city's hazardous waste. However, after achieving legal autonomy, he joined the League, where the unique are always welcome.

Blitzcrank is a fighter-type champion who specializes in yanking enemies to him with an extendable fist, knocking them skyward with a powerful upercut, and blasting them with electricity that passively shoots random enemies near him. If he needs a speed boost, he can enter an overdrive mode to increase his movement and attack speed. His passive creates a force field around him when he gets low on health that gets stronger as his mana increases.

Blitzcrank's alternate skins include Rusty Blitzcrank, Boom Boom Blitzcrank, Goalkeeper Blitzcrank, Piltover Blitzcrank and Definitely Not Blitzcrank.

Associated tropes:

  • Captain Ersatz: Of Robo given the Square Enix theme and has the voice of a Dalek. In gameplay terms, he replicates Pudge the Butcher from Defense of the Ancients.
  • Cool Car: His Piltover Customs skin.
  • Difficult but Awesome: A skilled Blitzcrank is a very good addition to a team, pulling out critical targets to be picked off by your posse and using his silence/knockups to turn around fights.
  • Grappling Hook Gun: Of the sort that only works on other people. Perhaps the most one-sided initiating skill in the game: when you pull it off successfully, the unlucky target is dead. Of course, it's a skillshot, so pulling it off successfully is more work than you might think.
  • Groin Attack: Once punched Singed in the crotch for trash-talking him.
  • Jack of All Trades: While not a Jack of All Stats, Blitzcrank has one of the most versatile sets of build paths of any champion in the game, being able to be effectively built as a pure tank, melee DPS, burst mage or even a hybrid.
  • The Load: A Blitcrank that can't land his fist is fairly worthless.
  • The Matchmaker: Runs a dating service. Best known for matching Ashe with Tryndamere, Garen with Katarina, and Rammus with a cactus.
  • Mighty Glacier: But he upgrades to a Lightning Bruiser as the game goes on.
  • Odd Friendship: He and Rammus are buds despite one being mechanical and the other being organic. This is likely due to them being kindred spirits as they are both lonely from being the only one of their kind while sharing a certain benevolent spirit.
  • Palette Swap: His Rusty skin holds the distinction of being the only skin removed from the game for the poor quality of the changes.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Whoever that large metal man in the poorly fitting suit and obviously fake nose and glasses is, he is most Definitely Not Blitzcrank.
  • Robot Buddy: If he's on your team. Off-field, he's a pretty nice guy in the lore.
  • Rocket Punch: The skill is actually called Rocket Grab, but the theory is similar.
  • Steampunk
  • Telescoping Robot

Brand the Burning Vengeance

"This place will burn, not by cinder flying on breath of wind, but by the vengeance of my hand."

An ancient, destructive elemental force of flame inhabiting the body of Kegan Rodhe, a viking-like raider from Lokfar, Brand only exists to sear, burn and destroy. Once sealed in a prison of ice, it was captured by Demacia and forced to join the League in order to escape destruction. He remains sealed withing a magical barrier when not fighting, continuously plotting his vengeance on the Summoners who dare to contain him.

Brand is a mage-type champion who uses fire-based spells. His abilities set their targets ablaze, dealing damage over time and adding bonus effects to any further spells. His spells include a skillshot fireball that stuns the ablaze, a pillar of flame which deals extra damage to any ablaze within, a spontaneous combustion that bursts outward from ablaze targets, and as an ultimate, a bouncing missile of magma that gains speed each time it hits ablaze enemies.

Brand's alternate skins include Apocalyptic Brand, Vandal Brand and Cryocore Brand.

Associated tropes:

C

Caitlyn the Sheriff of Piltover

"Go ahead, run. I'll give you a five minute head start."
Caitlyn, from her book Willing Apprehension

Born in a technological wonderland burdened by thieves, Caitlyn's career in law enforcement began at a young age. Hunting down brigands with the aid of techmaturgical devices, she quickly erased the threat of organized crime in her city. She joined the League to hunt down an elusive outlaw, the only hint being a card signed with "C" left behind at each crime scene.

Caitlyn is a ranged DPS-type champion, adept at keeping her opponents at bay while sniping them from afar. She can fire a piercing harpoon that damages all enemies in a line, launch nets that slow enemies and push her backwards, and place immobilising Yordle traps to reveal and hinder enemy movement. Her ultimate is an unavoidable targeted shot for huge damage, but can be intercepted by a teammate mid-flight. Her passive allows her to land a headshot after a certain number of attacks, dealing extra damage.

Caitlyn's alternative skins include Sheriff Caitlyn, Resistance Caitlyn, Safari Caitlyn, Arctic Warfare Caitlyn and Officer Caitlyn.

Associated tropes:

Cassiopeia the Serpent's Embrace

"Though she may have appeared the innocent flower, she was the serpent underneath it."
Katarina

The youngest daughter of the Du Couteau family, Cassiopeia used her wiles to seduce foreigners and obtain secrets for Noxus. She ran afoul of a man from Freljord, taking and breaking an oath of secrecy on his sword. As punishment, she was cursed to a lamia-like form. She hence joined the League to serve Noxus in another way.

Cassiopeia is a mage-type champion with powerful sustained damage and area control. Her passive reduces the mana cost of her spells whenever she casts one, encouraging her to continually use her spells. Two of her abilities poison targeted areas, either speeding up Cassiopeia if she hits an enemy champion or creating a growing area that continually damages and slows enemies, and the third is a missile attack with an extremely short cooldown when used on a poisoned target. Finally her ultimate stuns or slows foes in a cone, depending on the direction they are facing.

Cassiopeia's alternate skins include Desperada Cassiopeia and Siren Cassiopeia.

Associated tropes:

  • Awesome but Impractical: Some might argue so: her spell combo is unforgiving compared to other champs like Anivia, as it requires a lot of aiming to spread poison and Twin Fang is easy to waste. Alternatively:
    • Difficult but Awesome: If you can play her well she can put out an INSANE amount of damage with an impressive range, but she's quite possibly the hardest character in the entire game to use properly. In Riot's character ratings, she's one of two champions with a full difficulty of 100.
    • This is further reflected with who uses her: rarely seen at most skill levels (and terribly used for most of those players), yet is regarded by pros as one of the most difficult champions to lane against. Her status as one of the most consistent first picks or bans is also quite telling.
  • Badass Family: She's Katarina's sister.
  • Body Horror: Could say this happened to her. This is definitely her opinion of it.
  • Child Soldier: While Katarina assassinated targets, Cassi spied for the family.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Could say this due to all the new powers that came along with it, or not.
  • Disappeared Dad: As of Issue 11 of the Journal. Her Judgement indicates her reason for joining the League was to find out who killed him, and to take revenge.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Lux: the younger sisters to rivals Garen/Katarina.
  • Expy: Somewhat resembles the cancelled champion Priscilla the Spider Queen, and just as lewd as Priscilla was. Oh and both of them are poisonous half monster/human hybrids.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Turns to stone with a shriek, then falls on her side and smashes into pieces.
  • Femme Fatalons: She has them on her hands, basically. Doesn't use them in combat, although in her back story, she apparently ripped a group of servants limb from limb when in shock at the horror of her transformation.
  • Fragile Speedster: She's as squishy as any other wizard, but unlike most of them, has a speed boost for herself in the Noxious Blast ability that can be constantly refreshed due to its very low cooldown... as long as she hits it. A fair portion of her damage also comes from spamming Twin Fang on poisoned targets, making her fit this trope better than mages who have higher damage burst spells on long cooldowns.
  • Gainaxing: Currently the only example in the League.
  • Glass Cannon: Her damage output is potentially devastating, but she's extremely fragile and dependent on maintaining a range with a slow and a speed boost, with her only real CC being a bit unreliable. As a tradeoff, she's capable of doing much more damage than other mages with her low cooldowns, but takes longer to reach the same level of damage as most mages in the start of a fight, who generally cast off all their abilities as quickly as possible and then run away while waiting for their cooldowns to refresh. Cass, on the other hand, relies on opening up with her ultimate, then laying down Miasma and proceeding to rapidly spam Noxious Blast and Twin Fang while using the speed boost from Noxious Blast to twist and weave through the enemy ranks.
  • Gorgeous Gorgon: Despite now being a monstrous lamia and despite even Cassiopeia claiming she is now hideous, she is still extremely attractive.
  • Greek Mythology: Basically she's the League's Medusa, and one of her skins is a Siren.
  • Honey Trap
  • Medusa: Will remind you of her.
  • The Oathbreaker: How she became cursed in the first place.
  • Snake People
  • Snakes Are Sexy
  • Taken for Granite: If you look at her when her ultimate hits you, you're stunned with the visual effect being your champion frozen into stone for its duration. Otherwise, it just slows you down.
  • Universal Poison: Any type of poison will do for her Twin Fang's cooldown refresh. This includes Singed and Teemo's.
  • The Vamp: Prior to her transformation, and the reason for it in the first place.
  • The Wild West: Her Desperada skin gives her a rattlesnake-like appearance.

Cho'Gath the Terror of the Void

"Woe betides the day when Cho'Gath grows weary of the League."

Cho'Gath's alternate skins include Nightmare Cho'Gath, Loch Ness Cho'Gath, Gentleman Cho'Gath and Jurassic Cho’Gath.

Associated tropes:

Corki the Daring Bombadier

"He is Corki -– death from above!"

A grizzled, old daredevil Yordle pilot who flies in a Magitek gyrocopter invented by Heimerdinger and speaks like a redneck World War flying ace. He is noted for his extreme battle prowess, as well as his almost suicidal bravery. When he found himself out of action due to the end of open hostilities, he joined the League in search of a challenge.

Corki is a ranged DPS-type champion with a variety of powerful weaponry at his disposal: phosphorous bombs, a machine gun that continually damages enemies in front of him while reducing their armor, a quick dash that leaves a burning napalm trail, and a stockpile of giant missiles that builds up over time. His passive causes his regular attacks to deal extra true damage that ignores all resistance stats.

Corki's alternate skins include UFO Corki, Red Baron Corki, Ice Toboggan Corki, Hot Rod Corki and Urfrider Corki.

Associated tropes:

  • Abbreviation of Title Drop: In his joke does this, though it has the double meaning of the abbreviation "Laugh Out Loud" as well.
  • Ace Pilot: Right down to his aviator slang dialogue.

"It's a Charlie Foxtrot!"

  • Badass Mustache
  • Captain Ersatz: Anyone who played Warcraft III will see a resemblance between him and the Flying Machine unit.
    • His voice sounds nearly identical to Peppy's from the Star Fox series.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: A decent amount of the lingo he's saying is obscene... ...but you'd only know that if you understood it.
  • Difficult but Awesome: If you can land those missiles, you have a far-ranged harassment and farming ability. If you miss, they're only worth a Sheen or Trinity Force proc if you have those items. His Gatling Gun provides a good amount of armour reduction and damage in an Ao E, but moving away from the enemy at all while it's active is likely to waste a significant part of its potential.
  • Flying Saucer: Rides one in his UFO skin.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Corki's gyrocopter as it is now evolved from his test-flying the original design of the Reconnaissance Operations Front-Line Copter. Yes, it's a ROFLCopter.
    • His /joke:

"Lima Oscar Lima!"

  • Kill It with Fire: He has phosphorous bombs, and if the enemy is following you, Corki may make a quick dash away by flying up in his plane, with napalm being left in his wake for anyone that follows you.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: You can fire your missiles as soon as you get them, or, you can save up all seven to fire very soon after each other.
  • More Dakka: One of his moves is a pair of gatling guns that fire off continuously for a few seconds when activated, damaging units in a cone area and shredding their armor temporarily.
  • Old Soldier
  • Porn Stache: His moustache causes actual pornstars everywhere to feel inadaquete.

D

Darius the Hand of Noxus

"A united Noxus could control the world -- and would deserve to."
Darius

One of the most famous generals of Noxus, known and feared for his ruthlessness in battle. He fought for himself and his younger brother as orphans, and led a devastating charge against Demacia during the time when he was still a soldier, decapitating the captain leading his platoon in order to do so. Then his attention turned home, which in his eyes was falling apart under the weight of corrupt nobles. After violently removing several of them, he now backs Jericho Swain and his rise to power, seeing Swain as the one who can restore Noxus to its former glory and strength. For this, he joins the League to fight for the Noxus he believes in.

Darius is a fighter-type champion who bleeds his enemies dry before promptly putting them out of their misery. His passive stacks a damage-over-time effect on anyone hit by his attacks or abilities, boosting Darius' movement speed with each bloodied champion. He can swing his axe to hit enemies around him, dealing more damage to champions that get hit by its blade, apply a crippling strike that slows enemies movement and attack speed and has a reduced cooldown based on how much the enemy is bleeding, yank in enemies for punishment, and execute an enemy with a move that deals more true damage the more they're bleeding and refreshes in cooldown if he kills them.

Darius' alternate skins include Lord Darius.

Associated tropes:

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: His entire kit is based around this. He has positively staggering damage output and can wipe out whole teams if he gets the chance, but he has absolutely no option to disengage, no hard CC and no true gap closer. Sure, he can reel enemies in, but that only moves them to him... it doesn't damage or stun them. If he reels in an equally-dangerous melee champ, he's boned.
    • His background shows this as his defining moment.

"Never retreat!"

  • An Axe to Grind: He's got a giant one.
  • Anti-Villain: Sure, he fights in the name of Noxus, but it's clear that he has no ulterior motives: he just wants to eliminate the corrupt, bloated aristocracy that has tainted Noxus and make it a strong, proud city-state once more. He genuinely believes in his people and home, and that's why he chose to back Swain, who he sees as a true Noxian leader.
  • Asskicking Equals Authority: He took over his captain's position with one swift decapitation.
  • The Dragon: To Swain.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Garen: both represent the highest standard of their respective cities and both serve a high-ranking military leader (Garen serves Jarvin, Darius serves Swain). Their kits also share some similarities, with both of them having a spinning attack and an execution ultimate. Their passive are antithesis to one other: Garen's healing himself over time out of combat, Darius' damages an enemy over time and requires sticking into a fight to make full use of it. Emphasized by Darius' joke, where he attempts to mimic Judgement.

"NOXUUUUUS- OH OH... ugh, how does he do it?"

  • Finishing Move: His ultimate's cooldown refreshes if he kills someone with it, allowing him to finish multiple enemies in quick succession.
  • Gorn: The animations for his abilities pretty much all cause blood-splatters. Hitting with his Decimate ability with the blade is signified with a large spray of blood in the swing.
  • Kill Steal: This has tended to result in Darius ending up as 'KillSteal: The Champion'.
  • Klingon Promotion: How he got where he is now.
  • Knight Templar: Willing to do anything to route out the corrupt, decadent elements of Noxian leadership in order to restore it to greatness.
  • Lightning Bruiser
  • Might Makes Right: True to Noxian culture, Darius believes this.

"Strength above all."

Draven the Glorious Executioner

"The "best" is wherever I decide to set the bar each day."
Draven

An attention-seeker at heart, Draven failed to achieve the infamy he sought in the Noxian military. When he was made criminal executioner, he shocked and thrilled onlookers by allowing his victims a chance to escape before cutting them down in elaborite style. Draven transformed the work of criminal execution into a bloody spectacle, drawing more and more people to watch his exciting pursuits of the condemned as they made their final attempts to escape, and yet the glory of Noxus was not enough for Draven. Thus, he joined the League to perform on a global stage.

Draven is a ranged DPS-type champion with a penchant for throwing blades. He can attack with a spinning axe to deal extra damage and ricochet into the air, and catching it as it lands empowers his next attack with the same effect. Catching an ax also refreshes the cooldown on his short movement and attack speed boosters, enabling him to make quick maneuvers or chase fleeing targets. He can throw an ax that shoves foes aside in a line, and release two axes that tear across the map, damaging anything their its path until they reach the edge, hit a champion, or the ability is activated again, after which they return to Draven, dealing more damage to foes. In addition, his critical strikes and spinning axes cause targets hit to bleed for additional damage over a short time.

Draven's alternate skins include Soul Reaver Draven.

Associated Tropes

"Subtle? I don't do subtle."

"Let's admire me for a bit."

  • Fur and Loathing: That vest of his is lined with it.
  • Gorn: Not as much as his brother, though like Darius his attacks inflict a Damage over Time effect, complete with bleeding animation.
  • It's All About Me: Everything he does is driven by a desire to further increase his fame.

"Welcome to the League of Draven!"

"Draven's making an exit!"
"Who wants some Draven?"
"Draven does it all... with style!"
"This is where Draven shines."

Dr. Mundo the Madman of Zaun

"Beware the Madman of Zaun. In his eyes, you are already dead."

Dr. Mundo was once a brilliant but sadistic doctor who experimented on the neighborhood pets and unfortunate victims. After being caught, he had nobody to experiment on but himself, which he gleefully did. The brilliant doctor turned himself into a giant, potion-addicted brute with purple skin and a low intellect (which may explain his lack of a Mana Meter).

Dr. Mundo is a tank/fighter hybrid champion who gains back 0.3% of his health every second and can hurl infectious cleavers to damage and slow enemies, create an agonizing aura that also reduces crowd-control effects, briefly boost his attack damage based on how much health he loses, and use his ultimate to increase his speed and rapidly heal himself... which sounds lame until you remember that all his other skills are Cast from Hit Points.

Dr. Mundo's alternate skins include Corporate Dr. Mundo, Mr. Mundoverse, Toxic Dr. Mundo, Mundo Mundo and Executioner Mundo.

Associated tropes:

"Mundo say his own name a lot, or else he forget! Has happened before."

  • Lightning Bruiser: As well as giving him a massive surge of healing, Mundo's ultimate also gives him a considerable speed bonus, while his Burning Agony aura also makes him MUCH harder to slow down.
  • Mad Scientist
  • Morally-Ambiguous Doctorate
  • My Name Is Not Durwood: If you're having trouble finding Mundo on a LoL-related site like a wiki or build strategy database, make sure you're looking under "D" for "Dr.", not "M" for "Mundo". Even this site tends to forget that detail. Partly justified because Mundo himself repeatedly refers to himself without his title.
  • Professor Guinea Pig
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning/Glowing Eyes of Doom: And heed that warning.
  • Self-Made Orphan
  • Stone Wall: A fully tank-built Mundo with his ultimate available to use is generally regarded as the single hardest thing to destroy in the entire game, with the possible exception of Baron Nashor. To put that in perspective, Mundo typically has ~4000 HP by late game. His ult heals 70% back. If he has a Spirit Visage, that becomes 80%.
  • Third Person Person

E

Evelynn the Widowmaker

"There is little mystery about her to me -- she is the ultimate predator."
Jax

A deadly assassin surrounded in mystery who, it is thought, came down with a light case of vampirism as a child. She's not quick to confirm any of the myriad of theories about her identity or origins, or answer any questions about what her true goals are in the League.

Evelynn is a fighter-type assassin champion who takes reduced damage from minions and can damage nearby enemies with bolts of energy, slash enemies to reduce their defenses, become invisible until she attacks an enemy, and her ultimate grants her increased movement and attack speed, refreshing its cooldown and healing her whenever she helps kill an enemy champion.

Evelynn's alternate skins include Shadow Evelynn, Masquerade Evelynn and Tango Evelynn.

Associated tropes:

"It takes a lot of effort to move like this in heels."

  • Dark Action Girl
  • Dhampyr
  • Evil Feels Good: To the point where her Limit Break gives her a heal if she's recently helped kill anyone.
  • Femme Fatale
  • Femme Fatalons
  • Invisibility
  • Joke Character: At least for the moment, this is sad but true: not for reasons of humour, but for reasons of balance. Riot have openly admitted that they intentionally nerfed her into a blatantly underpowered state because the stealth mechanic was too disruptive to gameplay, as well as Evelynn herself being too binary (if played well, she'd often destroy the enemy team without mercy until she was unstoppable; if played poorly, she was worse than useless).
    • This is complicated by the fact that, even after her nerfs, Evelynn is much more effective in the less restricted, more chaotic confines of Dominion. Still nowhere near top tier, but at least playable.
  • Kick Chick: Previously, although changed when her animations were redone so she attacks with her Femme Fatalons as well.
  • Mating Dance: Evelynn and her ex-boyfriend Twisted Fate made quite a splash at the Royal Masquerade Ball (inspiring their Tango skins). They're both guest instructors at the Crown Dance Academy in Demacia.
  • Multiple Choice Past: She intentionally propagates different theories about herself to keep her past (and motives) a mystery.
  • Stripperiffic: There's only one reason that the enemy does not lurch to a drooling halt at the sight of her: the devs didn't program that in.
  • Super Senses
  • The Vamp: Both literally as well as metaphorically: she's not only Ms. Fanservice, she's also dangerously sultry.

"I may be bad, but I feel good..."

  • Weaksauce Weakness: The detector items you can buy and sticking together easily makes her less useful. Not at all useless, of course, but it takes away her invisibility as an advantage.

Ezreal the Prodigal Explorer

"There's little time to study musty tomes when you're busy crawling around where the musty tomes originally came from."

Ezreal is a boy genius and prodigy with a gift for both cartography and magic. After graduating from magic school due to his skills as a cartographer at the age of eight, Ezreal set off to become the world's greatest explorer and archaeologist. Along the way, he found a magical artifact that allows him to shape magical energy, with which he transforms his magical abilities into arrows of light.

Ezreal is a ranged DPS-type champion whose skills are all manually aimed. His attack speed gets a boost whenever he hits an enemy with one of his abilities. As to the spells themselves, he can throw a wave of light that harms foes while slowing their attack speed and boosting the attack speed of alies, fire an arrow of light that reduce his abilities' cooldowns if it hits, teleport a short distance while shooting an arrow of light, and unleash an energy missile that passes through enemies as it flies all the way across the map.

Ezreal's alternate skins include Nottingham Ezreal, Explorer Ezreal, Striker Ezreal and Frosted Ezreal.

Associated tropes:

F

Fiddlesticks the Harbinger of Doom

"Those who say 'you have nothing to fear but fear itself' have not yet felt the crows."

Old Lore: A psychotic scarecrow created by an evil witch building an army of scarecrows. Fiddlesticks was sent out to "warn" people of the danger of his brothers by terrifying and slaughtering them.

New Lore: An extra-planar monster summoned 20 years ago by a renegade summoner, Fiddlesticks is a nightmare creature that the summoners of the Institute of War cannot control and keep sealed up in the summoning chamber into which he was called, only letting him out to slaughter on the Fields of Justice.

Fiddlesticks is a mage-type champion who can suck the life out of enemies to heal himself, terrify them to mess up their movements, send out silencing crows that bounce between targets, and summon a storm of ravenous evil birds to deal damage in an area around him. His passive reduces the magic resistance of all nearby enemy champions.

Fiddlestick's alternate skins include Spectral Fiddlesticks, Union Jack Fiddlesticks, Bandito Fiddlesticks, Pumpkinhead Fiddlesticks, Fiddle Me Timbers and Surprise Party Fiddlesticks.

Associated tropes:

Fiora the Grand Duelist

"Fiora’s ego would be insufferable if it wasn’t so... justified."
Jarvan IV

Born into a family famous for their skills with a blade, Fiora spent her entire life dominating all challengers in duels under her father's tutelage. As her skills improved more and more, she acted even more superior. So when it was revealed that her father had only achieved greatness through cheating, people were quick to accuse her of the same. She joined the League because it was one place she could show the world that she did not need trickery to dominate with a sword.

Fiora is a melee-DPS champion with a lot of mobility and agility. Her passive gives her a heal over time whenever she deals physical damage that stacks when she damages champions. She can dash to a target twice in a short period, take a defensive stance to reflect an attack back an an enemy, briefly give herself an attack speed boost that also increases her movement speed whenever she attacks and reduces its cooldown whenever she helps kill an enemy, and use her unleash lightning-fast strikes against random enemy champions.

Fiora's alternate skins include Royal Guard Fiora and Nightraven Fiora.

Associated tropes:

Fizz the Tidal Trickster

"Fizz makes even the saltiest sailors of Bilgewater look like drunken landlubbers in a fight. Good thing he’s on our side."
Miss Fortune

A mischievous member of a secluded underwater race that all vanished mysteriously when he went out on one of his excursions. After wandering into the port town of Bilgewater, he got in trouble with the locals until he won their favor by defending them from a dragon-shark attack. He now calls the town his home.

Fizz is a fighter-type assassin champion who specializes in being evasive and slippery. His slick skin allows him to path through other units and take a little less damage from attacks. He can dash toward an enemy to deal damage, passively deal more damage depending how much health his target is missing, and give a brief damage boost to his attacks that also reduce all healing effects on his target. His slipperiest move lets him hop onto his trident, becoming briefly untargettable before hopping down and splashing damage on nearby targets. For his ultimate, he throws a fish that sticks to enemies or flops on the ground before a giant shark jumps up and eats it, knocking up all enemies around it.

Fizz's alternate skins include Tundra Fizz, Atlantean Fizz and Fisherman Fizz (where a giant Urf replaces his shark).

Associated tropes:

(after tossing a fish as bait) "Lunch time!"
