List of original characters by canon. This is a work in progress, feel free to expand it.
Ongoing canons:
A Fistful of SCIENCE!
- Gratuitous Latin Theme Naming - all units from this canon. Some names overlap with those of Silentium machines, to the confusion of veteran players. This may or may not have been intentional.
Alessandra Langelier
- Badass Non-Royal Princess
- Cute but Cacophonic - She's very loud and (for some) annoying by default. Reaches Dreadful Musician levels when she sings. Or worse, tries karaoke.
Kamille: I can't feel my soul. |
- Dumb Blonde - A variation: she's smart enough to understand science and advanced physics (though some of her knowledge is wrong...), but certainly gives off this impression due to impulsiveness and eccentricity.
- Faux Action Girl - Concerned of slipping into this role, and tries hard to avoid it.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by the Princess from Etrian Odyssey.
- Large Ham
- Older Than They Look - She's 20, but looks and acts about 15.
- Spoiled Sweet
Aethereal Wake
Vigil
- Artificial Human
- Green Lantern Ring - his unit (which is technically Vigil himself) can manipulate Aether into any shape, limited only by Vigil's creativity.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by color-swapped Akihiko.
- Spock Speak
- The Stoic
And Though I Walk
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Nicolai is played by Kain R. Heinlein.
Roads Blackwell
- Disproportionate Retribution - After the Attempted Rape of Arika by a gang of thugs, Roads takes care of one of the men responsible. While what Roads did is not detailed in full, it involved denailing the target, pulling out at least one of his eyes, and finally burning the poor sod alive.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Rintaro Okabe.
- Mr. Fixit
- Our Vampires Are Different - To the point where they can hardly be called vampires anymore. Bloodsucking and the sunlight weakness are just about the only thing that remain.
- Power-Up Letdown - His unit's Super Mode is more of a "Don't Suck" mode against anything but his own canon's monsters, and so far has powered down faster than it's supposed to on every single use.
- Robosexual - REALLY interested in some of the more robotic people on board, such as Samus Aran's armor suit and Lily Rain.
- Walking the Earth - What Roads did for the three months between his last job and joining the White Chalice.
Arduus Umbris
Wendell
- Country Mouse
- Determinator
- Expy - Arduus Umbris is Shadow of the Colossus WITH (even more) GIANT ROBOTS.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Unsurprisingly, Wendell is played by Wander.
Armored Core: forAnswer
Alexei Soras
- Brain Uploading - When Kamille accidentally kills Alexi with a bit of Newtype Pressure, his computer ends up trying to rebuild his brain and memories through this.
- Cold Sniper - gentlemanly (outside battle at least) but rather aloof and distant.
- Hired Guns
- Psychic Powers - has very limited precognition powers.
- Psychic Everywhere-bleed - While Alexi may have those powers, he's susceptible to psychic attacks. In fact, a grief-stricken Kamille's Newtype Pressure ends up killing him.
PRIME
- Blood Knight
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Proud Warrior Race Guy - well, more like a Proud Warrior Artificial Human.
Astral Frontier
- Applied Phlebotinum - Kinetic Dispersal Units, which project an area where artificial forces provide a friction that stops kinetic energy. Their use ranges from stopping cargo fired from a linear catapult, protecting machines from physical weaponry unable to move under its own power, and also enable a fully automatic railgun.
- Easily-Thwarted Alien Invasion - The Irgelion armada that came to conquer Earth four years after Second Impact wasn't expecting as harsh resistance as it ended up facing.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - The entire cast is this, and in some cases even provides a Mythology Gag going back to their original works.
- Bertrand Herrera and Bairoft Giryilel are played by Rugal Bernstein and K' respectively.
- Herbert Phillips is played by Hazama.
- Sara Francesca Valentine is played by Lady.
- Theme Naming: Prominence Armors have names referring to stars or light in general (Daybreak, Dusk, Corona, Solstice, etc.) Thaumata's codenames for Gaia Vanguards refer to wonders of the world (the Pyramids, Alexandria, the Hanging Gardens, etc.)
- Throw It In - The only reason Bertrand Herrera ended up with a wife and children was that most of the pictures of Rugal that portrayed him as a decent human being coupled him with Yukari Yakumo. Including Adelheid and Rose after that was just a natural progression.
Christine Diaman
- Death Seeker - Following her second defeat at Julia's hands. For awhile, anyway...
- Good Feels Good - Once Christine and Julia finally bond, she admits that it felt nice not trying to talk down to someone because of her misplaced arrogance.
- Heel Face Turn - Gets one, but not before realizing just how terrible Thaumata is and subsequently having her machine beaten into the ground by Julia.
- Hypocritical Humor - Christine calls out Lans for his excuse over why he did what he had done, even calling him out on pretty much having a temper tantrum over not getting his way. She doesn't miss the hypocrisy of it all.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Noel Vermillion.
- I Have Many Names - Her machine does at any rate. Its official production name is the Solstice, but during her stint as a member of Thaumata it was called and referred to as the Hanging Gardens.
- Drunken Declaration of Love - After getting plastered by Luger's special drink, Julia finds Christine and Christine blurts out that she has a crush on her... then promptly tries to steal a kiss from her.
- Redemption Promotion - Becomes a much better a pilot after joining the protagonists. Justified because she's finally in control of her ego and pride and actually working on honing her skills.
- Small Name, Big Ego - Initially is extremely overconfident regarding her abilities while downplaying Julia's own. This changes after her second appearance though when Julia physically and emotionally breaks her down.
- Tsundere - Personality Type A. Prefers to be boisterous and brave, though she ends up enjoying dropping her guard and being friendly at least around Julia.
Julia Richardson (also known as Reilev Kidoreaon)
- Author Appeal - Julia's boxing hobby came about because her player is a huge fan of Hajime no Ippo.
- Big Eater - Justified. Irgelions have noticeably higher metabolism rates than humans, so Julia needs to either eat a lot of snacks, larger portions during her meals, or just have a fourth meal somewhere in the day.
- Break the Cutie - The Blessed with Suck hits her hard after Shu's Granzon busts up the Corona, leaving her a sobbing wreck when she can't pilot Mobile Suits and the like.
- Damn You, Muscle Memory! - Painfully so. The control layout of the Corona is so ingrained in her that using any other kind of machine would be nearly impossible for her.
- This comes back to bite her in the ass when Shu wrecks the Corona during their first encounter. And again when she acquires the combat model as well, due to differences between its controls and the original's.
- Flawed Prototype - The test/propaganda model Corona is a Joke Character, and the intended combat model is a vastly superior machine across the board with functioning built-in weapons, better specs, and doesn't even require specialized parts for repairs.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Tsubaki Yayoi.
- Human Alien
- I Know Madden Kombat - Zig-zagged. She primarily just uses boxing for physical fitness, but while using a Vandread the controls were such to allow her to use some simple boxing techniques. During her first sortie in the combat-model Corona, her unfamiliarity with the controls also forced her to use the machine's fists, but in a much more brutal way.
- Joke Character - The HK-1138' Corona was never meant to fight in live combat, so its Wave Motion Gun is little more than a big flashlight and instead of chaffs it can carry fireworks. It can still swing an HFM Blade or fire a railgun just fine though.
- Instant Expert and Master of None - Both are played with. Irgelion muscle memory is significantly better compared to a human's, which means that it's easy enough for Julia to learn new things. However, this is a double-edged sword since it also means improving on what she already knows requires meticulously forcing her body to keep from just repeating the flawed forms she initially learned.
- My Greatest Failure - Being unable to save Bertrand Herrera.
- Reassigned to the White Chalice - After her first mission, due to a quiet buy-out of her employers.
- Shout-Out - The human names of the Richardson family (Julia, Ken, and Gail), along with the Irgelion names of Julia's parents (Ahmos and Albatro), refer to names from Blue Comet SPT Layzner.
- Unstoppable Rage / Curb Stomp Battle / Grievous Harm with a Body - Julia's second fight with Christine was this, Julia's Corona tearing off one of the Hanging Gardens' arms and beating it with it while telling Christine how much a monster she was for not stopping Herrera's death.
- Team Mom - In spite of only being sixteen years old and having her own problems, Julia nevertheless is able to dispense sage advice or occasionally called out questionable behavior, particularly with her friends Ichitaka, Haruka, and Arika.
Battletech
Star Captain Resnick
- Calling Your Attacks - Seemingly the only person on the Chalice who finds this odd and annoying.
- Fish Out of Water
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Sean Bean
- Proud Warrior Race Guy - he is a Clan Wolf warrior, after all.
- What Is This Thing You Call Love?? - A variation: Adette has to teach him what monogamy is.
Das Leiden
- Body Horror - The as-of-yet unnamed enemies from this canon are best described as the Thing that takes over mecha and their pilots alike.
Luger Amwolf
- Action Survivor - As much as a mobile suit pilot can be one. Yet, when you are a completely ordinary Leo pilot fighting against horrible abominations, the best you can hope for is to survive.
- Gratuitous German
- Jerkass
- Must Have Nicotine
- Not Good with People
- Shell-Shocked Veteran
Frame Rider Technica
Gregory Winthrop
- Composite Character Expy - Has elements of both Yagamura and Tsurugi in his character.
- Destined Bystander - His first appearance in the story saw him do very little before seemingly being killed. Nearly sixty missions and eight months later he returns though, joining the protagonists.
- Father to His Men - Enough that even after seemingly dying, his men disobeyed orders and let MarKus go because Gregory was going to do so.
- Super Prototype and Flawed Prototype - The Type-Y AXI is both at first, by being a Lightning Bruiser prototype that's faster and stronger than following AP Frames with better armor to boot... but helpless in anything other than ground fights.
- That Man Is Dead - Inverted. Gregory has no means of proving if he's the original or just a Percolatis who's doing a really good job imitating him. But all he can do is trust in his identity and keep living as Gregory.
- Tomato in the Mirror - May or may not actually be a Percolatis who is imitating the original. His player has no desire to decide on one or the other.
MarKus Haley
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents - Aboard the ship for a short while after a mission.
- Ascended Fanboy - wanted to be a Kamen Rider all his life.
- He had his chance to be a REAL Rider too, rather than just a Rider-themed mecha pilot. Although the belt he picked up had it's power exhausted, and he now just keeps it as a momento. Along with the K-Touch.
- Cluster F-Bomb - default mode of communication for him.
- Composite Character Expy - Has elements of both Kagami and Tendou in his character.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Tir McDohl
Gundam Ragnarok
Nadia Cross
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Nina Antalk
- Legacy Character - after her Ace Pilot of a father.
- Never Live It Down - No, Ayame isn't going to stop mentioning Nadia said they were allied with Celestial Being, damaging the ship's reputation, any time soon.
- The Bus Came Back - Was re-apped several months after she was dropped.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist
Zakaria Sabola
Ilka Viridiana
- Affirmative Action Girl (She was added to the cast at the last minute, what can we say?)
- Broken Pedestal
- Expy (Okay, who put Omemi Emiru and Elian Verdant into a blender and dumped in a penchant for tl;dr and a tragic backstory?)
- Knowledge Broker
- The Medic/Mr. Fixit (In season 1. Season 2 sees her taking over the general support slot.)
- Power of Trust (Ilka has issues.)
- Wall of Blather (Sometimes actually written out, but more often represented by "tl;dr tl;dr tl;dr tl;dr tl;dr".)
Ironlock
Hua Cheng Kwan
- Butt Monkey - if someone has to be beat up, has his machine not function against the enemy, etc, you can bet it'll be him.
- Brainwashed and Crazy - Dr. RGNK had been able to brainwash Cheng behind the scenes, using him as a way to learn about the crew of the Chalice.
- Deal with the Devil - Cheng entered a pact with Maya (see Revolution: Abraxas up above) which resulted in him getting stronger at first, but when the deal was broken due to the latter believing her powers were mishandled, unexpected consequences occured.
- Face Heel Turn - Thanks to the aforementioned brainwashing, Lans ends up setting Cheng against the crew. Cheng isn't happy when he finds out later.
- Fan Nickname - Chinese Russel.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Antonio Lopez.
- Iron Woobie - his life as a State of Gucun soldier sucked, being full of Training From Hell and superiors believing We Have Reserves. Yet, he soldiers on.
- It's Personal - after being Brainwashed and Crazy, he vows to get revenge on the man who had done so. He gets it.
- Master of None - Thought it's meant to be a Mighty Glacier, the Behemoth had a routine habit of getting wrecked (as befitting Cheng's Butt Monkey status) and overwhelmed by enemies of all colors. Its two-part Mid-Season Upgrade remedies this problem.
- Mid-Season Upgrade - The twofold upgrade mentioned above. The Jotunn remedies the Behemoth's failings by removing obstructive armor while keeping all its guns. The upcoming Meta Mecha Ymir expands on its pre-existing strengths.
- More Dakka - his unit, the Behemoth, has a LOT of guns.
- The Ymir takes this one even further, to the point its write-up lists its weapons by limb.
- Repressed Memories / My Greatest Failure: Cheng thought he had rescued his family and other survivors that fateful day. However, it turns out that it never happened - he was the only survivor and everyone else had died. He doesn't take it too well.
- Theme Naming - The Jotunn got its name because of the fact that Ymir was the creator of the Frost Giants in Norse Mythology.
Lost in the Cold
Vlaska
- Cool Cat - A cat super-soldier mecha pilot.
- Cute Kitten - Despite being a grown-up cat, evokes the reaction in many characters and their players alike.
- Odd Friendship - With Samus Aran. A cat and a culturally alien bird woman.
- The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body - In spite of having human-level intelligence, Vlaska still is just as prone as ever to feline indulgances like pawing at netting.
- Translator Microbes - Vlaska's collar has a built-in device that translates his non-verbal communication and cat noises into human language. Its vocabulary is limited, especially for English and not Russian.
Project Pre Destiny: The Rainbow Jewel of Hope
- Artificial Intelligence: CHYPrE and COFFRET, Nanohana and Eri's companions. COFFRET made mention of another AI, COLOGNE, hinting that they're not the only ones.
- Foreshadowing: During the Idolmaster: Xenoglossia / PreDesu mission, New Fusion hint that there's something more to the Endless Desu machines than what they're using. Hana ends up confusing it as thinking about the battle in Fairy Park.
- Motion Capture Mecha - The Desu units are like this. And just like the Mobile Fighters, things that hurt the units feedback on them.
- Caped Mecha - The Desu Tsubomi and Erika are outfitted with "Desu Wings", energy capes that allow flight in atmosphere and space.
- Expy: Project PreDestiny is pretty much Heartcatch Pretty Cure with GIANT ROBOTS!
- Magitek: The PreDesu units are powered by the Rainbow Jewel, allowing them to perform all of their attacks and utilize their AI.
- Palette Swap: The only difference between Nanohana, Eri, Sora and their source material is different hair.
- Averted with Seiren, who retains her normal hair color.
- Verbal Tic: CHYPrE and COFFRET carry the same "-desu" tic their counterparts do. HUMMY apparently doesn't have one and POTPOURRI hasn't actually spoken yet.
- Ass Kicks You - The girls tend to use the "PreDesu Butt Punch" from time to time. It doesn't work at times.
Nanohana "Hana" Himesaki
- Beware the Nice Ones - Shy and introverted to a fault, the girl has some really repressed anger issues, as Sora found out.
- Falling Into the Cockpit - Unlike Eri, Sora and Seiren, Hana was thrown into the mix of things almost literally the first day.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Tsubomi Hanasaki.
- Innocent Flower Girl
- Iron Woobie - The girl's constantly questioning her own skills, takes a few losses way too hard, locks up a lot of her feelings away to the point of breaking down when things go wrong and has attempted or thought about two of her own Ten-Minute Retirement. Instead, she soldiers on because she has Eri waiting for her at the end of every day.
- Legacy Character - While Hana and Eri are the latest of PreDesu pilots, Hana's grandmother was the first pilot, thus she's taking up the family business, so to speak.
- Minor Insult Meltdown - Accidentally provoked by Sora after pointing out that she was still weak, Hana's response to a question she was asked was to try to pound Sora's head in. However, it did show Sora that Hana had incredible potential within her.
- My Greatest Failure - Thanks to Hana's overreacting, she considers not rescuing Imber as this.
- And now there's the fact that she hid during Adventus' attack on the Chalice, allowing a lot of her close friends to get captured by them.
- Older Than They Look - Hana is 18, but looks around 14 at most.
- Rousing Speech - Nanohana gives one to rally Milfeulle, Forte, Chrono and Samus Aran to defeat Fusion.
- Small Name, Big Ego - Tsukasa calls Hana out on this when he comes to realize that she's been trying to make everything about her.
- Walking the Earth - After a few incidents that's left Hana injured physically and emotionally, Dita's taken her and Sora for a little walk... around China.
- Journey to Find Oneself - What it ended up leading to. It works - Nanohana's confidence hasn't wavered since the incident and Sora's much more confident in what she wants to do.
- Took a Level In Jerkass - didn't work out too well.
- Journey to Find Oneself - What it ended up leading to. It works - Nanohana's confidence hasn't wavered since the incident and Sora's much more confident in what she wants to do.
- What the Hell, Hero? - Alexei snaps at Hana after spotting her screwing up again, letting her know to stop treating this as a game or people will die.
- And newcomer Seiren lets Hana have it after finding out she ran and hid while Eri and Sora were defending the ship against Lucas' Automatons.
- Wrong Genre Savvy - Thanks to her sheltered lifestyle, she holds on to the belief that things will be okay and she can save everything. Y'know, Magical Girl Tropes. Too bad she's living in a post-apocalyptic world where Festum and Invaders are waiting to slaughter everyone. She's given a major wake up call thanks to Seiren and Kei.
Eri Kurumu
- Crazy Prepared - To levels bordering on OCD, complete with explosive candy and even hiding a razor wire inside a false scar on her back.
- Deus Exit Machina - Eri tries to pull this off towards Hana and let her be a hero without any real help. However, a few people have told her to stop pussyfooting and just let loose.
- Genki Girl - And how! However, recent events are showing that this is more and more of a disguise...
- Last Stand - ends up defending the captain of the Chalice against Lucas' robotic Mooks before falling and getting captured.
- Get a Hold of Yourself, Man! / Motivational Kiss - When Hana attempts to quit the PreDesus after reuniting with Eri, Eri responds by slapping her across the face, reassuring her that she wouldn't want any other partner but her, then gives her one long kiss.
- Older Than They Look - she's 24, looks around 14 at most but tells everyone she's 18. She has a good reason for that, though...
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Erika Kurumi.
- Stepford Smiler / Broken Ace - Turns out Eri was a pilot before her time with Hana. Something happened that rendered her original machine inoperable and has hurt her dearly.
- Scars Are Forever - Eri ends up showing Alexi a number of burn and shrapnel scars across her back and body from aforementioned hidden incident.
- That reason has now been revealed - a Desu pilot, a third Kurumu sister, inflicted the injury on Eri when she was younger. When Charlotte asks why she doesn't tell Hana this, Eri mentions she doesn't want Hana to worry over it.
Sora Myoudouin (also known as Lira Roliaron)
- Big Eater
- Canon Immigrant - In a sense. Sora's an Irgelion, from the Astral Frontier canon.
- Human Alien
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Itsuki Myoudouin.
- My Greatest Failure - Despite being there to fight Lucas head on, Sora's unable to rescue Fate when she's captured and be there when Eri's captured, too.
- Missed the Call - It turns out that Sora was at Fairy Park when Sasodina, Cobra and Kumojack attacked along with Ridley. She couldn't sortie, though, because of problems with her machine and Irgelion reflexes.
- Only Sane Man - Her teammates include a girl with repressed anger issues and a girl who's body is stuck younger than she should be and is has problems of her own.
- Remember the New Guy? - Played straight with Eri, as she had trained with her prior to the canon's start. Averted with Nanohana, who has no idea who she is.
- Wholesome Crossdresser - In the past, she was like this. Werter makes the mistake of thinking she was still like this, but Sora corrects him.
Seiren Kurokawa
- Calling the Old Man Out - CHY Pr E does this, tired of Seiren breaking down Hana after just arriving, pointing out everything she had done prior to Seiren's arrival. Seiren points out that they wouldn't be having this conversation if Hana had turned in reports like she should have. Granted, she didn't really know.
- Please Don't Leave Me - heartbreakingly done towards Laura as she and Devon sacrifice themselves to stop the SE invasion. It burns her badly.
- Until they came back.. And now, she's happy again.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Ellen Kurokawa
- I Am Not Here To Make Friends - much to Nanohana's frustration.
- Shapeshifting - goes from human to cat. Kinda regrets it now.
- The Ace - She's apparently much more older than the three other PreDesus and obviously holds a lot of prestige over the other girls.
- Broken Ace - Like the rest of her teammates, she's haunted by something that happened in her past and she hates the idea of being pitied... and Nanohana's attempts to open up.
- Tsundere - Type 1 variant. She outright refuses to accept Nanohana or Sora's hands in friendship, considers being a Pre Desu akin to being a soldier and has all but closed up her heart to everyone... except for Laura, whom she willingly opens up to. For the first time in a long time.
Record of Atlantis War
Timaeus III of Atlantis
- Fan Nickname - Similar to "Charmander", "Aquaman: for obvious reasons.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by AQUAMAN.
- Large Ham
Roar that Shaped Fate
Tatsu
- Fan Nickname - Charmander, for obvious reasons.
- Mechanical Lifeforms - A small robotic lizard-like construct, built to have capacity for growth and evolution.
- Power Copying - A psychological variation. Tatsu began his life as a blank state, but copies personalities of people around him instead.
- The Speechless
- Suddenly Voiced - Becomes this after imprinting on Nanohana. This also comes with determining a gender, causing Tatsu to identify with itself as a female and speak in a female voice.
- Third Person Person - Refers to herself by name rather than using pronouns.
Scales of Balance
- Gaia's Vengeance - Disciples of Baphomet summon and control Elementals in order to wipe out humanity for all the damage it caused to Earth.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - both Scales of Balance characters are 'played by' (i.e., use icons of) major characters from The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, much to the confusion of the L&BH fans in the player cast. These characters were chosen in intentional Homage to the manga.
- Various NPCs continue this trend.
- Mood Whiplash - the canon runs on it.
Werter Wolf
- Blue Oni Red Oni - blue to both Herb and chibi-form Prometheus. Also, Prometheus is the red to Ephimetheus' blue. Phew!
- Combat Pragmatist - believes in The Laws and Customs of War and tries to spare enemy pilots whenever possible. Other than that? Anything goes.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Fun Size - Prometheus shrinks down into a mischevious one-foot tall prankster.
- Gratuitous German - occassionally.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Yuuhi.
- Lightning Bruiser - Prometheus packs quite a punch, as expected from a super robot. Unlike most super robots, he is also very fast and good at dodging.
- Ordinary College Student
- The Slacker - initially.
- Science Hero - aspires to be one after his character development.
- This Is a Drill - Prometheus' main weapon is a drill lance.
- Trademark Favorite Food - popcorn.
Herb Montgomery
- Blue Oni Red Oni - see above.
- Chainsaw Good+BFS - Epimetheus' main weapon is a two-handed chainsword.
- Expy - of Mikazuki.
- Fun Size - as above, but Herb's robot Epimetheus is a stoic prone to facepalming instead.
- Glass Cannon - Epimetheus is as strong and fast as Prometheus, but Herb's fighting style focuses on offense above all and almost ignores defense.
- Good Guy Bar - runs one on the White Chalice.
- Keet
- Unknown Rival - constantly tries to match his skills against Werter, who couldn't care less.
- Walking the Earth
Flynn O'Shea
- Evil Luddite - At first.
- Harmony Versus Discipline - Both sides of the trope, just at different times. As an enemy, he's able to move and act in harmony with his Elemental. After his Heel Face Turn, however, he instead has to actively exert his will and control his new elemental Mayim.
- Heel Face Turn - Captured underaged cultist of Baphomet who (very slowly) warms up to the White Chalice and its crew.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Taro.
- Innocent Fanservice Guy
- Making a Splash - instead of a giant robot, he uses a water elemental.
- Nature Hero - Though the "hero" part is debatable.
Wayward Signet: Origins
- Spiritual Prequel - To Wayward Signet from Super Robot Wars Unlimited Generation.
Aidan
- Fearless Fool - Aversion. He is literally fearless, but aware of it and tries to control himself with logic.
- Heroic Build - Very tall and broad-shouldered, if not necessarily heavily muscled.
- Straight Gay
- The Stoic
Atticus Crowley
Completed Canons:
Adventus
- Climax Boss - At least so far, with Lucas attacking the protagonists during re-entry and necessitating fighting while riding the ship down into the atmosphere, Jeremy fighting the heroes against the backdrop of the recently renovated Hoover Dam with an audience of members of Britannia, Federation, and Adventus, and the DR RGNK fight at Casablanca, Morroco during a performance. The missions have also been milestones, marking the 20th, 30th, and 40th mission each.
- Averted with mission 50 - Adventus units were used, but Yolanda was only involved with fighting the Granzon off screen.
- And again with mission 58 - Yolanda finally appears there but it wasn't on a 10th mission.
- Deflector Shields - Three of the Adventus Generals have their units armed with high powered barriers, apparently even more powerful than the Granzon's
- Four Is Death - Four Generals
- Quirky Miniboss Squad - The Generals seen so far are certainly colorful enough.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist - Their ultimate goal is for humanity to cease using giant robots... while using giant robots to achieve that.
DR RGNK
- Affably Evil - Has a great love of music and holds concerts for people. Also has no objection with putting subliminal messages in said music and making people who listen to it do whatever he wants
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Beat. MC Low-Key's played by DJ Professor K.
- Loud of War
- Music for Courage - In spite of the fact his music can control people, RGNK primarily uses it as a means to help people feel good about themselves living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and in fact joined up with Adventus to have the means to travel wherever he wanted to.
- Theme Naming - Norse Mythology.
- Low-Key is "Loki" written phonetically.
- RGNK is pronounced "Ragnarok"
- RGNK's machine, the Skidblanir, is named after a giant boat in Norse Mythology that could be folded up and carried around. The Skidblanir mech can unfold into an entire soundstage for RGNK to do performances.
- The brand of music equipment is Jallerhorn, named after a trumpet used to signal Asgradians.
- Sidekick - Has one in MC Low-Key.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here - He hints to Gentarou that he wants to do this, but for some reason, he can't.
- Faking the Dead - This is apparently his way out.
- Throw It In - The original name was going to be DJ RGNK. However, after a typo the mods decided that DR sounded better.
Jeremy Gatsby
- Badass Bookworm - A historian by trade. Still a very good fighter, and was able to severely damage multiple White Chalice machines single-handedly with his own machine still functioning in the end.
- Barrier Warrior - His machine, the Hyperion, can produce extremely powerful shields which he can shape however he wishes. Yolanda and RGNK have similar shields, but Jeremy uses them not only for defense but for combat as well.
- Bling of War - Goes into battle not only wearing golden armor, but the Hyperion is gold as well. Unsurprising, really.
- Good Thing You Can Heal - Unlike Lucas and DR RGNK's machines, Jeremy's was severely damaged during the fight, losing most of its limbs. However, it's no problem to him since he can just make barriers in the shape of said limbs to replace them.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Gemini Defteros.
- Large Ham
- Meaningful Name - Hyperion was the Greek Titan of light. His machine, being gold, is downright shiny.
- Named After Somebody Famous - Subverted. His real last name is "Cunningham". He just adopted "Gatsby" because it sounded cool.
- Not in This For Your Revolution - Could not care either way if mecha become a thing of the past or not. Still joined Adventus out of a desire to chronicle their exploits for the sake of future generations.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni - Red to Lucas's Blue.
- Shout-Out - Has quite a few to Yang Wen-Li.
- Token Good Teammate - Uses Adventus's resources primarily to renovate what few historical landmarks weren't completely destroyed by Second Impact. Also formally challenged the Chalice pilots to a battle and fought fairly, and he's voiced opposition to DR RGNK's use of subliminal messages and mind control.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness - Turns out Lans had a powerful explosive installed in the Hyperion and when he lost a second time, Lans detonated it, depriving Jeremy of joining the heroes.
Lans Chretien
- Big Bad - The leader of Adventus.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Kazuki Sanada.
- I Control My Minions Through... - It seems that Lans has various ways to bring his men in line. Many of them are controlled through his Agenda to purge all mecha from the Earth and the population sees Adventus as Being the Lesser Evil, despite the current state of the world. DR RGNK, Lucas and Jeremy, though, are Not in This For Your Revolution. Instead, he has things that they feel the Chalice could never hope to have.
- Improvised Weapon - HALO was never meant for actual front-line fighting. However, Lans was familiar with the machine and was able to make the most of its limited arsenal.
- Old Shame - According to Jeremy, Lans was part of Project HALO, the project that created the robot that accidentally caused Second Impact. However, how much he's involved with it is unknown and even still, it's enough of a secret that Philip can't look it up.
- Now it stands revealed that Lans had a hand in creating HALO. Even more, when the unit crashed to Earth, Lans found it first and kept it at the Adventus base, activating it in an attempt to stop the protagonists.
- Redemption Equals Death - Realizing the he still has a chance to save everything, Lans ends up self destructing HALO in an attempt to stop it from firing its weapon. It only manages to slow down HALO for a few moments, unfortunately.
- The End Is Nigh - According to Bian Zoldark, Lans started out as one of these.
- The Leader - Created Adventus, natch.
- The Worf Effect - His first act onscreen subjected Bian to this. The Valsion is plenty powerful; the problem was simply that HALO was stronger still.
- Utopia Justifies the Means - Lans envisioned a world without robots, which gave him the right to amass an army to stop the rest of the world from using them themselves. When they find out that Lans was also angry that other people were busy making their own power sources and robots, a few of the players call him out on this.
- Villain with Good Publicity
- Visionary Villain - Envisions a world without mecha... despite the fact that, without them, the world would be an even bigger Crapsack World.
Lucas Damien
- Attack Drone - His own unit, the Mysterium, is made of nothing but these.
- Hollywood Cyborg - He's actually strong enough to take Domon Kasshu head on.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Mamoru Chiba.
- Not in This For Your Revolution - Like his friend Jeremy, he's not a part of Adventus because he has an overwhelming desire to see giant robots to no longer be used.
- Really Seven Hundred Years Old - Actually around 200 years old, due to getting an artificial body after a disastrous magic trick gone wrong.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni - Blue to Jeremy's Red.
- Weaksauce Weakness - Thanks to Frank and Laura, they now know that he's weak against microwaves. Or supercharged microwave ovens.
Yolanda Ysmir
- Alas, Poor Villain
- Combat Pragmatist - and a real jerk about it.
- Cryptic Conversation - When Yolanda first appears, she says that she won't wait any longer in stpoping the White Chalice's "disruption". Even upon being pressed by players about what that means, she doesn't repond.
- The Faceless - Before making a formal appearance in a log, her face is obscured in her icon.
- General Ripper - Whereas Jeremy, RGNK, and Lucas are not fully sold on the ideas of Adventus and have their own reasons for working within its ranks, Yolanda is outright determined to kill those who use giant robots and won't settle for anything less but the death of everyone on the Chalice. She even goes as far as killing one of her own men when one is tossed at her.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Natsuhi Ushiromiya.
- Homage - Her Teleport Spam and boss music are inspired by Asha from Iji. Her personality isn't unlike a less ranty Iosa the Invincible's, either.
- Kick Them While They Are Down - After stopping a massive tank and taking out two ACs, Yolanda shows up and starts to wipe the floor with them. The heroes call her out on this, though.
- Lightning Bruiser - Generally fights by teleporting up to another robot and smacking it with Caliban's two swords, then teleporting off to avoid the counterattack. Or to get behind the target for another strike.
- That One Boss - the mod responsible for running her designed her to be as annoying to fight as he thought he could possibly get away with. Comparisons in style have been made to Anubis.
- The Stoic - She's pretty much cold and calculated in her actions.
- The Smurfette Principle - The only female general.
- This Is Unforgivable! - The reaction among the player characters when she kills one of her own men.
- When she captures Haman Karn, this is Char's reaction.
- Wave Motion Gun - Caliban's two swords put together make one of these.
- What Could Have Been - Mentioned offhand during the final battle against her, and how in another world she could have been a friend of the Chalice pilots.
Still Not Safe
- Manipulative Bastard - While technically on the good guys' side, Roger Dantoinne is not beyond using them for his own gain. Also a Large Ham and also he's the Big Bad. Which shouldn't surprise anyone. Though he underwent a Villainous Breakdown upon learning the truth about Shifting Entities.
Devon
- Combat Pragmatist - Both when fighting on-foot and against mecha sized opponents.
- Defrosting Ice Queen - went through this during her time on the L-Boat to the point of nearly being a Noble Jerkass.
- Yank the Dog's Chain - Aaaaand that fell through when Ryo died.
- Eventually happens anyway, to a limited extent.
- Discard and Draw - Following the canon finale, Devon's powers changed significantly, with her gaining some new abilities while losing others like being able to Shift.
- Does Not Like Shoes
- Good Is Not Nice
- Henshin Hero
- Heroic Sacrifice - She and Laura end up bonding with an actual SE to stop others from appearing and get the others back home.
- Not Quite Dead - They came back after a good week or two MIA.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Aya Brea.
- Ineffectual Loner - Being Genre Savvy to an extent, she is aware of this trope and does her best to fight off the ineffectual part. The loner part fits like a glove.
- Jerkass - Quite intentionally too.
- Kiss Kiss Slap - When Devon finally returns, she proceeds to head for Cheng's room. When he goes to hold her, she beats the shit out of him for losing faith in her safety.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero - At one point, Devon's desire to one-up Samus leads to her throwing an Id Beast at a Metroid in the hopes they would kill each other. The Metroid simply ate it, took on vampiric qualities, and became promoted to a literal Boos In Mooks Clothing for the mission, with Devon very sheepishly trying to avoid the subject afterwards.
- Only One Name - At least until before her marriage. Following it, at least in the mission write-ups she's listed as Devon Kwan.
- Rebellious Spirit - Often breaks the rules just because they're there. Which more than once put her in trouble.
- She Cleans Up Nicely - usually wears really old and tattered jeans and a t-shirt, and pays zero attention to her appearance. And yet she looks great in a wedding dress.
- The Ubermensch - fascinated by ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche. The original version, not the Flanderization propagated by some people.
- Unknown Rival - very jealous of Samus Aran, due to the latter being extremely capable and independent physically, with absolute control over emotions and an iron will - qualities that Devon lacks but desires. Samus does not notice nor care much.
- No longer unknown, as Devon decided to tell Samus of her desire to surpass her. Samus seems to still not care.
- Wacky Marriage Proposal - While Cheng suffers from a massive Heroic BSOD, Devon approaches him and flat out tells him "Marry me.". It snaps him out of the effect and he does accept. And when Devon tells everyone, they're in a LOT of shock.
Frank Symes
- A Father to His Men
- Catch a Falling Star - used a fallen tree as a ramp to jump into the air and save Lynnette Bishop from a painful crash. On his debut mission, to that.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Rudi Yaeger
- Hope Spot - Seemingly revived during the penultimate Still Not Safe mission, though his wounds still caught up to him.
- Killed Off for Real - in the penultimate Still Not Safe mission, first by being punched with enough force to wreck some Humongous Mecha and, after a Determinator sequence also being buried under a pile of rubble.
- Straight Gay - possibly.
- Veteran Instructor
- Weak but Skilled - faces giant robots with only an underperforming mass-produced Power Armor. Makes it out alive. His mission is not over yet.
Laura Ericks
- The Chick
- Convenient Coma - Justified, since both the "falling into" and "waking up from" parts were caused by supernatural circumstances involving her own powers. And Dantoinne's machinations in latter's case.
- Discard and Draw - Like Devon, Laura's powers radically changed after her canon finale, which helped her offensive powers be less impractical.
- Everybody's Dead, Dave - She woke up from a 3 year coma only to discover that her whole team died in the meantime. Except Devon.
- Henshin Hero
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Naruko Anjo.
- Lipstick Lesbian
- Reality Warper - Her powers are a very limited form of this.
- Superhero Packing Heat - her offensive abilities are limited and impractical. Solution? Carry an assault rifle and use her powers to enhance the shots' effectiveness.
- The Mole - Sadly, she had no idea she was like this and when it's revealed she takes rather harshly.
- Title Drop - Her trigger phrase.
_____ Revolution: Abraxas
Maya
- Cheerful Child - but also a...
- Creepy Child
- Gone Horribly Right - Her attempts to draw out a part of Cheng namely the darkest, most conquest-hungry part. A few moments later and Maya ended up trapped in a prison she was powerless to escape from, needing the protagonists' help to take down "Shadow" Cheng.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by Rena Ryugu
- Mind Screw
Del Segno al Coda
Loraine Gloss
Guitar Robo
Johnny Steel
The Inanity Project
Andre Viccini
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Victor Borkowski.
- Lizard Folk - although he's not evil in the slightest.
- Mistaken for Aliens - more like Mistaken For Dinosaur Empire, at least initially. Luckily Hayato decided to ask questions first and shoot later.
- Nice Guy
- The Nose Knows
- Ugly Cute
Silver Trigger
Blanc "Shiro" Beauvais
- Ace Custom - his unit is a heavily customized Gespenst.
- Canon Immigrant - he's an alternate version of a character who debuted in Super Robot Wars Unlimited Generation.
- Manipulative Bastard - nice on the outside, but views others only as tools for him to use.
Strange Loop
Orlando Desmarais
- Hipster
- Mr. Fixit
- Non-Action Guy - doesn't like to fight on foot, and his mecha is more suitable for repairs than combat. It can take a hit, though.
- Most Definitely Not a Time Traveller
Tesseki Garou
Rosie Li
- Blood Knight
- The Empath - works both ways, as strong emotions Rosie experiences can be felt by others too.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - Played by Fate/EXTRA's Rider.
- Large Ham
- Martial Arts and Crafts
David
- Cowardly Sidekick - to Rosie.
- Healing Hands
- Street Urchin
Zwei Hildebrandsleid
Roger N. Hammerstein
- Crazy Awesome - it's Hildebrandsleid.
- Deliberate Values Dissonance - comes from the 40s, with all that entails. He gets better, though.
- Fish Out of Temporal Water - sent straight from World War II into the distant, post apocalyptic future!
- Hey, It's That Guy! - played by the Vault Boy
- Nice Guy - although with some... unfortunate sensibilities.
- The Knights Who Say Squee - was very happy to visit Neo America and spend time with its president, Michael Wilson.
World Egg
Njall, son of Erland
- Blood Knight - He and his rival Asmund joined many historical conflicts, on opposing sides. Not for ideological reasons but to fight each other.
- Complete Immortality - He does not age and can regenerate From a Single Cell.
- Good Thing You Can Heal - Both for Njall and his robot. Guess who from player characters suffers the most gruesome damage during missions?
- Red Oni, Blue Oni - Red to Asmund's Blue. Their units are even color-coded.
- Time Abyss - Relatively well-adjusted for an immortal, but he tends to forget things.
- Touched by Vorlons - Njall was an ordinary mortal viking until he was kidnapped by aliens.
