The Varia

Xanxus

The second major villain in the series, this guy is the leader of the Varia Assassination Squad, which should be enough to tell that he isn't someone you want to anger. Too bad though, his Berserk Button is broken and can't be turned off. He was raised as the son of the 9th Vongola Boss, but after discovering that he was adopted, he went on Unstoppable Rage mode and tried to take over the Vongola by force, but ultimately failed and was frozen. Years later, he pulled a lot of strings after discovering that Tsuna would be the 10th boss instead of him. That way, he would not only kill the competition, but have the support of the higher circles of the Vongola. Once again, he was thwarthed, and ten years in the future, he fights on the same side as Tsuna for the Vongola's victory.

Superbia Squalo

Xanxus's second in command, and by far most loyal subordinate. Squalo is a master swordsman who defeated different styles to perfect his own. He was up to be the Varia's leader, but mellowed out as soon as Xanxus entered the picture. Not only that, he stays loyal to his boss even after being treated like trash, which made him a fan girl favorite by default. He made a promise to never cut his hair until Xanxus became boss of the Vongola family. Was defeated in the Ring Battles by Yamamoto, while his future self becomes his Sink or Swim Mentor.

  • Animal Motifs: Everything about him screams Jaws.
  • Artificial Limbs: Cut off his own hand in order to better understand one of his opponent's fighting styles. He has it replaced with a hand that can turn at any angle which he attaches his sword to. Literally.
  • Badass Long Hair
  • Battle Cry
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Not a single mark even after losing the Rain Battle or after another ten years of fights.
  • Bishounen
  • Blood Knight
  • Catch Phrase: VOOOOIIII!!!
  • Devoted To Xanxus
  • Everything Is Even Worse With Sharks: He almost got eaten by a shark after the Rain battle, but survived. Ironically, his box weapon animal turns out to be a shark.
  • Face Palm: When Yamamoto is 'screwing around' with his puppy.
  • Fridge Logic: If he promised to never cut his hair again, why does he still have bangs?
  • Hot-Blooded
  • Ho Yay: Xanxus, Yamamoto, Dino, and occasionally Lussuria.
    • Dino?
      • Squalo's first appearance has him yelling at everyone with an arrogant smirk on his face, which promptly disappears when Dino shows up, which indicates a certain amount of respect. Dino's faith (if faith had extremely negative connotations) in Squalo's abilities during the Rain Battle makes that respect mutual. Further more, during the future arc, random interactions seem to have Dino pegged as the one person Squalo doesn't communicate with by shouting.
      • The Inheritance Ceremony had Dino and Squalo talking to Tsuna, Dino's advice being "WE won't pry if you won't tell US" and "WE can help." Considering this is Squalo he's talking about, without previous references, no less...
      • Squalo called out "We're going!" after that, too. The Varia had just shown up, Squalo and Dino had yet to converse, yet they're already talking and walking together in sync...
      • "It'd be nice if we could just have a quiet meal, right, Bucking Horse?"
  • Important Haircut: Due to his promise to Xanxus.
  • Large Ham: This is how LARGE it is.
  • Meaningful Name: "Superbi" is "Pride" in Italian, while "Squalo" is "Shark". Two motiffs for the price of one name!
  • Mr. Fanservice: His fangirls will tell you that.
  • No Indoor Voice: He even has the well-deserved title of the loudest mafia member, according to Fuuta's ranking.
  • Rapunzel Hair
  • Seven Deadly Sins: As obvious as the other ones, he's Pride.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: His TYL self to Yamamoto
  • The Lancer
  • The Promise: To Xanxus
  • Tsundere: if this is anything to go by.
  • Undying Loyalty: Again, to Xanxus.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Seriously, a few bandages and a few days rest after getting nommed by a shark and he's fit to randomly show up at the Sky Battle. Granted, he was covered with bandages and sitting in a wheelchair, with a Cavallone grunt holding a gun to his head. It might be more of a case of "forced to be there..."
  • White-Haired Pretty Boy: And how.
Lussuria

A flamboyant martial arts expert and master of the Muay Thai style. Did we mention he's gay? Very, very, very gay. Alright then. Faces off against Ryohei (who quickly becomes his new object of lust) in a very brightly lit boxing ring, and shatters his opponents hand with a metal cap strapped to his knee. Despite this, he was eventually defeated, and Xanxus has him shot. He recovers though, and went on to aid Vongola in the future.

Levi A Than

[Info Goes Here]

Belphegor

Resident genius prince of the Varia. Holder of the Ring of Storm, fought Gokudera for it. Nicknamed "Prince the Ripper" because he murdered his twin brother and becomes euphoric when he sees his own blood. He is supposed to represent the sin of Sloth since in Christian tradition, Belphegor is said to be the chief demon of this deadly sin.

Gola Mosca

At first, Mosca was the most mysterious member of the Varia, never speaking a word and hiding his face at all times. As his team's Cloud guardian, he fought Hibari for the Cloud ring, but fell to a single attack of his opponent. It was then that his true identity was revealed: Gola Mosca is actually a prototype weapon that Varia stole from the Vongola HQ. It's a combat robot that feeds on the flame energy of anyone who is placed inside it, and will stop at nothing to complete its objective. As such, it's the main piece for the completion of Xanxus's plans.

Fran

The newest officer member of the Varia in the future who uses a Hell Ring with the numbers "666" imprinted on it. Introduced during the Varia attack on a Millefiore base in Italy, Fran is Mammon's replacement as the group's illusionist and is thus forced to wear a large frog hat to symbolize this. Fran has a calm demeanor despite being very antagonistic towards the other members of the Varia, verbally attacking them. He can be sarcastic, coldy abusive, and very, very blunt. Fran is portrayed as a level-headed coward, that prefers running rather than fighting. He occasionally forgets that he is the Varia's illusionist and is supposed to see through the illusions that enemies set up, making vague references to the fact that he has a master. He is often teamed up with Bel, whom he calls "senpai." Fran is actually quite talented in illusions, being able to make it seem like he and Bel died fighting Rasiel. There seems to be more to him than meets the eye with Fran; when Bel embedded knives into his back, he didn't even bleed, and simply took out the knives, bending and disposing of them.

Mammon/Marmon/Viper

The CEDEF

Iemitsu Sawada

Tsuna's elusive father, who everyone believes is either dead or working in some far-off oil field. How wrong they are...

Basil

Iemitsu's young disciple and subordinate. He possesses the blue, rain attribute flame, and has the ability to go into Dying Will Mode when he consumes special pills made by Iemitsu. Due to being strictly trained since early childhood, he is a very talented fighter. Unbeknownst to Basil, in order for Iemistu to safely deliver the real halves of the Vongola rings to Japan, he was sent to deliver the fake Vongola Rings to Tsuna. During this, he encounters Superbia Squalo, and is subsequently beat. Despite being used as a decoy, he remains extremely loyal to Iemitsu, and helps train Tsuna in order to help the latter control the Dying Will Flame. The CEDEF later sends him into the future as support for the Vongola, and his box weapon is shown to release a dolphin, which he can telepathically communicate with. Basil also has a habit of speaking in an archaic manner and refers to most with the suffix '-dono'. This unusual habit sometimes interferes in his way of modern speech.

Vongola Geek Squad

Gianinni

Part of a family who has provided weapons' tuners for the Vongola for many years, but his own "modifications" actually make all the weapons far less useful.[46] He travels inside a round mechanical machine, but does not seem to do so anymore in the future, a time where his skills have greatly improved.

The Millefiore Family

Byakuran Gesso

Look at the image next to this description. You see someone like that and you think he's a pretty nice guy, huh? Wrong, oh so very, very wrong. Byakuran is a Big Bad if ever there was one. As boss of the frighteningly powerful Millifiore Family, his goal is to obtain the Vongola Rings and, which, together with his Mare Rings and the Arcobaleno Pacifiers, will form the Trinesete, something that, according to him, will allow him to gain dominance over the world. He's arguably the nastiest villain in the series yet (and when your competition are the likes of Rokudo Mukuro and Xanxus, that's saying something).

Uni

She's a young, kindhearted, and caring girl...who is also the Millefiore Family's second-in-command, the head of the Black Spell, and the captain of the 1st Calendula Squad. On top of all that, she's the former leader of the Giglio Nero Family, inheriting the position and the Orange Arcobaleno Pacifier after her mother's early death. The Giglio Nero's strength is waning, however, and Uni is forced to agree to the merging of the Giglio Nero and Gesso families to form the Millefiore.

She defects to Tsuna's side and takes the Arcobaleno pacifiers with her, after watching Byakuran disregard a promise made between him and Irie Shouichi.

Gamma

An A ranked member of the Millefiore Family, who commands the 3rd attack squad of the Black Spell and is responsible for wiping out many of the allies of the Vongola Family with his later found to be fake Lightning Mare Ring. He's deeply devoted to his boss, Uni, and has a deep hatred of Byakuran and members of the White Spell, believing that the former did something to Uni that caused her to lose her cheerful demeanor.

Genkishi

A Millefiore illusionist and swordsman. He carries four swords, as well as the fake Mist Mare Ring and one of the six Hell Rings. Despite being a former Giglio Nero member, Genkishi devoted himself to following Byakuran when he saved him from an incurable disease, and even instigated the Giglio Nero/Gesso merger by faking his defeat at the hands of Squalo. However, when Byakuran had requested him to steal the Mare Rings and Sky Pacifier from the Giglio Nero, he was unable to do so due to Uni. This leads him to go to great lengths to prove his loyalty to Byakuran, even being consumed by his Hell Ring, which changes him physically and mentally, in order to defeat Tsuna in battle. Though his transformation grants him greater power, he loses to Tsuna and escapes by using one of his box weapons. He resurfaces during the Vongolas' battle with the Six Funeral Wreaths disguised as Saru, one of Torikabuto's subordinate. There, he is defeated in a rematch with Yamamoto and gets killed by Kikyou when he loses under Byakuran's orders.

Shouichi Irie

He's initially an unsuspecting middle school kid who becomes caught up in the antics concerning Tsuna and his friends early on in the series, but ends up in possession of some Bovino family weaponry, including the Ten-Year Bazooka. He is the captain of the White Spell's 2nd Rose Squad, and is also one of the Millefiore's six A rank members. He reports directly to Byakuran, and has been secretly researching the Ten-Year Bazooka in order to find a way to time travel.

Spanner

A member of the Black Spell. He belongs to the family's tech department and is responsible for the creation of the family's Moska robots, which are giant humanoid robots created for combat. He was told by Irie to locate and eliminate Tsuna.

Glo Xinia

A captain of the White Spell's 8th Wisteria squad and is the holder of the fake Rain Mare Ring. He encounters the younger Chrome Dokuro. He fights with a box of the rain element, an owl covered in the Dying Will Flame, later revealed to be playing host to Mukuro. After his battle with Chrome he was hospitalized with severe injuries and a broken jaw, but it is later discovered that he planted a tracking device on Chrome.

Rasiel

Belphegor's older twin brother and possesses the fake Storm Mare Ring. He and Bel fought constantly as children, but he always won, so to beat him, Bel put laxatives in Siel's food to incapacitate him. Originally thought to have been killed by Bel, Siel reveals himself as the one responsible for the Millefiore defense in Italy, and can unleash bats from his special box that can emit invisible storm flames to harm his enemies. His personality is no different from Bel's, except that opposed to a prince, he states that he's a king.

Orgelt

Baishana

Iris Hepburn

Ginger Bread

A young boy who wears a wizard's hat and cape, with stars in his eyes. Lal Mirch asks if he is Ginger Bread; he calmly states that he doesn't go by that name anymore. He first claims that his attacks are derived from sorcery, but later reveals them to be based on spiders with sun flames. He sends out dolls to attack as the real Ginger Bread has yet to reveal himself.

The Six Funeral Wreaths

Kikyou

One of the Six Funeral Wreaths, Kikyou is the holder of the Cloud Mare Ring. He seems to be the unofficial leader of the group and is quite calm most of the time.

Zakuro

One of the Six Funeral Wreaths, Zakuro is the holder of the Storm Mare Ring. He is very loyal to Byakuran, having burned down his own hometown on Byakuran's orders. He is also highly arrogant, calling others 'idiot' and 'imbecile' often.

Daisy

One of the Six Funeral Wreaths, Daisy is the holder of the Sun Mare Ring. He has a rather uncanny apperance with scars on his face, dirty-looking hair, sunken eyes, and a creepy plushie in his hands.

Bluebell

One of the Six Funeral Wreaths, Bluebell is the holder of the Rain Mare Ring. Possibly the only female in the group (depending on the gender of Ghost), she is also the Token Mini-Moe. She may be older than she looks as well.

Torikabuto

[Info Goes Here]

Ghost

[Info Goes Here]

The Cavallone Family

Dino Cavallone

He was exactly like Tsuna before he was trained by Reborn and became the family leader he is today earning him the title of "Bucking-Horse Dino" and leading the Cavallone family to the rank of third most influential. Too bad every time his family isn't present he can completely fumble even the simplest of tasks. He definitely expected more out of Tsuna, remarking he "didn't have the aura" but eventually takes on the role of older brother to him and helps out in the future.

Romario

The Tomaso Family

Naito Longchamp

Lunga

Mangusta

Pantera

The Simon Family

Enma Kozato

The Shimon counterpart to Tsuna. Like Tsuna, he considers himself a reluctant, "no-good" boss who does not want to be involved in the Mafia. However, they both are inevitably involved because they want to protect their Family. He has very poor social skills, is weak minded, and even reminds Tsuna of who he used to be (and in many aspects, still is). It is shown later that that he holds a grudge against Tsuna for the apparent betrayal of Shimon Cozart by Vongola Primo and the death of his sister and parents by Sawada Iemitsu. It was really Daemon Spade who caused this though.

Adelheid Suzuki

The Shimon counterpart to Hibari Kyoya. Like Hibari, Adelheid is the most powerful guardian. She is also similar in that they are both serious, strict with committee rules, always willing to use force in order to get what they want, very intimidating, and extremely proud of their abilities. However, that's as far as the similarities go. Unlike Hibari, Adelheid is very loyal, compassionate, and supportive of those in the Shimon Family and even serves as more of a leader than Enma.

Aoba: He didn't even waver under Adelheid's wonderful panty attack!

  • Slap Slap Kiss:She and Julie; see Minion Shipping above.
  • Smug Super: Before dueling Hibari, she insists that she doesn't even need to "cross weapons" with him in order to beat him and then flat out declares herself already victorious.
    • Then, after revealing her "Ice Castle" defense ability and ice clones, she asserts that Hibari never had a chance to begin with.
    • Hell, of all the members of Shimon, she seems to run her mouth the most about how the Shimon is allegedly far superior to the Vongola in power (and morals). It's like she's begging to be on the receiving end of a Shut UP, Hannibal moment.
  • Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
  • Team Mom: Shown in a flashback in 321 to hang out with Shitt P., practice baseball with Kaoru, spar with Koyo, buy food for Rauji, help Enma with his clothes/injuries, and punish Julie when he acts up.
  • Tsundere: For Julie.
  • Unknown Rival: Adelheid acknowledges Hibari's strength but on the other hand, he had never actually acknowledged hers. He said that he "had seen the size of the fang of her beast and she could never bite him to death."
Shitt P.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: In her fight against Gokudera, she mentions that she was picked on by others for eccentricities, which made her cold towards insults and very proud of herself, claiming that she loved herself first. This entire conversation can be seen as Motive Rant.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The weirdest character encountered so far. Gokudera even thinks she's an alien underground creature.
  • Expy: She is very similar to Lady Gaga
  • Irony: She begins to think of Gokudera as a "Warm U.M.A".
  • Insistent Terminology: She insists on being called "Shitopi-chan" and will flat out ignore you unless you call her that.
  • It's All About Me: Sort of. While she says she has a lot of people that she loves, she says she loves herself the most and only fights for herself.
  • Spider Limbs: Her ring weapon, which shoots her swamp flame, which can "ferment" things.
  • Unfortunate Names: Need we say more?
Kaoru Mizuno

  • Big Damn Heroes:Pulls one in the latest chapter by showing up and stabbing Daemon Spade in the back.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder:His ring weapon, which is more like a lance below the shoulder.
  • Easily Forgiven: Kaoru openly points out how he nearly killed Yamamoto after the latter saves him from Daemon Spade's attack. Yamamoto being Yamamoto, he just laughs it off saying they're friends, so of course he'd come help him.
  • Face of a Thug
  • Younger Than They Look: Lampshaded constantly with people mistaking him for a parent, even though he is still in middle school.
  • False Friend: Kaoru's the main reason Yamamoto is still in the operation room at the hospital. Though it's made clear that he feels pretty bad about it, to the point where he forfeits when his fight comes up.
  • Manly Tears: When Yamamoto saves his life.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Lampshaded by himself when he takes a stab for Yamamoto from Daemon, knowing full well that Yamamoto could have dodged it. He just wanted to repay him.
Koyo Aoba

[Info Goes Here]

Large Ooyama

Julie Katou

  • Chivalrous Pervert: He's a complete flirt around cute girls, but rarely means any harm. The one time he did, it was actually D.Spade parading around as him.
  • Expy: For someone in Middle School he certainly looks a lot like Johnny Depp.
  • Foe Yay: Oh so very much with Chrome.
  • Grand Theft Me/People Puppet: Julie has, for almost the entire time the readers have known him, actually spent it playing vessel for Daemon Spade. Sucks to be him.
  • Master of Illusion: The Desert Flame seems to hold similar qualities to a Mist Flame. Also one by proxy of being one of Daemon Spade's vessels.
  • Megane
  • Minion Shipping: It's revealed through flashback that Julie and Adelheid had a thing for each other.
  • Nice Hat: His fedora.
  • The Slacker: He even lampshades it in one of Adelheid's flashbacks when he admits that while he acts foolish most of the time, although he immediately subverts it when he says he would gladly give his life away to protect the Shimon family.
  • Split Personality Takeover: What Daemon's response to Adelheid's questioning about what happened to Julie essentially amounted to.

Free Agents

Bianchi

Gokudera's older half-sister. She uses "poison cooking" as her main weapon. Also in love with Reborn. Subsequently also a complete badass.

I-Pin

She is an assassin from Hong Kong, and speaks in nothing but Chinese. Even though this 5-year-old little girl can't speak Japanese, the 15-year-old "Adult I-pin" eventually enters a Japanese College, and despite the fact that she is one of the most promising young assassins, she works part-time at a Chinese Restaurant ten years later. She has a crush on Kyoya Hibari, who looks like her teacher. During times of extreme stress, she will latch onto the nearest person, and a clock will appear on her head, when it reaches zero, there is an explosion like a bomb.

Dr. Shamal

A womanizer who hits on every beautiful woman he sees. Though he is often unsuccessful, he is always seen hitting on one woman and then instantly moves on to hit on the next woman that passes by him. Surprisingly, putting aside his normal lecherous attitude, Shamal happens to be a notorious assassin called "Trident Shamal", and is also a renowned doctor, but he refuses to treat men. He uses trident mosquitoes to infect his targets with deadly illnesses. Since he contracts viruses and diseases easily, he carries 666 pills that contain mosquitoes infected with deadly diseases. He claims to be infected with 666 diseases, but is not dead because all his diseases negate each other. He was also once asked to join the Varia but refused.

Fuuta de la Stella

A young boy who ranks people by their abilities in a book half his own height. He has an extremely wide range of knowledge on thousands of people and is considered to be a valuable informant for the Mafia, sometimes being paid insane amounts of money for a copy of certain rankings, but due to this, he is often chased by the Mafia. When he ranks people, gravity around him becomes distorted, making objects around him float, and images of stars and galaxies appear in his eyes. It is unknown how he actually gathers his information, but his rankings do become skewed when it rains. He also has to be looking at the person to determine their rankings. He calls Tsuna his big brother, and starts living in his house. In the future, after gathering information with Bianchi, Futa, who now carries a suitcase rather than a book, returns to Japan with crucial information about the Millefiore Family. Futa also reveals that he was Lambo's guardian until three years before Tsuna's arrival in the future, and prefers that Lambo not be endangered.

Uncle Kawahira

Others

Nana Sawada

She is Tsuna's mother, who, despite caring deeply for him, has fairly little belief in her son succeeding in life: she does not expect him to get into a good college, tends to have outbursts claiming that her son is a loser, is eternally grateful for Haru wanting to be his girlfriend despite how pathetic he is in her eyes, etc. She helps feed all the people that are presently living in her house and does not see anything strange with any of them. In the future, she was revealed to be on vacation with her husband in Italy when the Millefiore Family attacked the Vongola headquarters; her current condition is unknown.

Kyoko Sasagawa

She's the love interest. A good girl who likes cooking and knitting. Her brother Ryohei is virtually the oposite of her quiet demeanor, but they still get along, (not that you see them together often or anything). Tsuna's feelings for her stemmed from the fact that she was the only girl to talk to him in over a year, but now she's caught up in all this mess along with Haru. It seemed like being constantly lied to has been getting frustrating to her.

Haru Miura

She is the one girl who actually likes Tsuna in a romantic sense, and attends Midori Middle School, one of the toughest elite schools to get into in the area. She initially adored Reborn, but after she was saved by Tsuna, she diverted her adoration towards him instead. She loves children and is usually the one to babysit Lambo and I-Pin.

Hana Kurokawa

Kyoko's best friend who hates children to the point she gets hives when she gets near them. Ironically enough, she gets married to Ryohei later.

Mochida

Kyoko's "ex" love interest and the very first antagonist, if you can call him that.

  1. though maybe due merely to the fact he's just that more sexy looking in the future
