The Morlocks are a secretive group of underground mutants whose mutations make them unable to live unnoticed on the surface. When the group first appears their survival is being threatened as the waste from a sports drink being dumped into the sewers is unintentionally poisonous to mutants. To stop the dumping they repeatedly break in to taint the batches they aided by Spyke/Evan Daniels who was rescued after being poisoned and who's mutations are becoming more obvious psychically, after which he chooses to stay and become their champion.

Code Name: Cyclops

Cyclops/Scott Summers

Real Name: Scott Summers

"No, we're the X-Men. We're not kids anymore. You trained us, and you know something, we're good. Very good."

The leader of Professor Xavier's students. A mutant who shoots high-intensity beams from his eyes. Unfortunately for him, he can never shut this power off. So he must always wear special visors or glasses made of ruby-quartz. Due to having a strong sense of morals and drive to be the leader, Scott can sometimes come off as a "boy scout" or "do-gooder". But he also has an extremely competitive side and tries hard to hold his temper in check, which can sometimes get the better of him. In contrast to his reputation for being stiff, he surprisingly shows a good sense of humor. During the series, Scott reunited with his brother Alex, who he thought died in the plane crash both were involved in.

Jean was the most popular of the X-Men who attended Bayville High. Beautiful, athletic, and smart, she seemed to not have the problems the others faced trying to fit in and be normal. But her growing powers made her extremely insecure and showed she had her own burdens to bear. And she was ultimately shunned by her former friends when revealed to be a mutant. Jean dated Duncan Matthews for the first two seasons, but later fell for Scott, who had secretly loved her from afar. Jean also has a very close father and daughter type relationship with Professor Xavier.

  • Mind Over Matter: Her powers are telepathy and telekinesis.
  • Moral Guardian: Compare Jean to Cyclops in season one's Survival of the Fittest. Both the Brotherhood and X-Men competed to get to the top of a mountain and place a flag before the other team. The catch was neither team could use their powers. But Scott had no problem cheating and using his powers after seeing Avalanche cheat. Jean though was quick to point out that the X-Men should be above such things and stick to the rules. Interesting that neither Scott or Jean were portrayed in a positive light here with Jean being shown as slightly overbearing and self serving.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Rogue's red.
  • Plucky Girl
  • Power Incontinence: "Power Surge" is dedicated to have her go through this.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She possessed everything that can make a girl the Alpha Bitch. Beauty, popularity, and a jock boyfriend. Instead she was nice and willing to help anyone.
  • Straw Feminist: Comes up during Walk on the Wild Side and never really touched on again. She calls Scott out on trying to help and bitches at Duncan for buying tickets to a dance, when its suposed to be the girl who asks the guy out, while complaining about always feeling like she's treated as the weaker sex.
    • Kind of done pretty badly because Jean takes an obvious joke Scott makes very personally, and keeps raging even when he apologizes and obviously regrets what he said.

Nightcrawler is a blue, furry mutant whose power is the ability to teleport. He uses a holographic image inducer in public to appear as a normal teenage boy. Nightcrawler is the biological son of Mystique, who abandoned him a long time ago. They don't get along. In contrast to his demonic appearence, Kurt is kind, fun loving, and a loyal friend. But there also is a sense of sadness about him as he longs to be accepted by the world outside despite his appearance.


Code Name: Rogue

Rogue

"Me and Miss Popularity there are worlds apart, galaxies, but then I realized something. She would do the same thing for me."

Voiced by Meghan Black

Rogue is a mysterious mutant who absorbs the memories and abilities of others through touch. Due to her powers, Rogue has become withdrawn, bitter, anti-social, and sullen. Only after learning to trust the other X-Men, does she begin to open up. Rogue is Mystique's adopted daughter. But Rogue turns her back on Mystique after learning that she was only using her and joins the X-Men. She develops a massive crush on Cyclops, but later accepted that Scott loved Jean and not her.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Her love for Cyclops can never be returned.
  • Badass: Due to the nature of her power, most Danger Room scenes have her instead use basic training and martial arts to deal with the robotic threats and use her powers sporadically. Shown off in Cajun Spice, where she uses her power for mind reading only and mostly takes out the Rippers with just outmatching them in fighting skills.
  • Blessed with Suck: Her powers mean she can never touch anyone without risking their lives.
  • The Chick: The first brotherhood chick.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Energy Absorption
  • Goth: A huge departure from her Southern Belle comic persona. And it proved to be quite popular. Some Comic writers (notably Grant Morrison) wanted to Canon Immigrant this, but never got the chance to. Instead it appears X-23 has absorbed this trait when adapted into the Comics.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Rogue shows some jealousy toward Jean, possibly due to her own power's drawback and Jean seeming to be perfect in every way. This becomes clear in season two's Power Surge where Jean can telepathically hear Rogue snark on her for winning an award, and later for believing Professor Xavier gives Jean preferential treatment. Knowing that Scott, who she has a crush on, really loves Jean doesn't help either. At the end, she acknowledges that for all their differences, Jean does care for her.
  • Heel Face Turn: She first joined the Brotherhood before joining the X-Men.
  • Hopeless Suitor: For Scott.
  • Most Common Superpower: again, it's Rogue.
  • No Name Given: She's referred to as 'a rogue' by Xavier in her origin episode, then she expresses a lack of memory. Since then, her name was never revealed in the show, and she was only referred to as Rogue. Many have taken to calling her Anna Marie, her current comic name, but it's more of a fanon thing right now.
  • Odd Friendship: With Kitty. The girls have nothing in common, but get along great. Well, they eventually do, earlier episodes showed them as not being able to stand each other.
  • Only One Name
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Jean's blue.
  • Romantic Two-Girl Friendship: Rogue made quick best friends with Risty Wilde, a girl from Manchester, England. They seemed to have a lot in common and some fans were getting some Schoolgirl Lesbians vibes from the two. That came to a halt when we learned Risty was actually her mother Mystique in disguise.
  • Ship Tease: Beside the aforementioned crush on Scott, in the later seasons she had one full episode of blatant Ship Tease with Gambit, plus scattered moments in other episodes.
    • Though, according to the character designed and ocasional director of the series, they kept this to a minimum because a lot of the writing team shipped Scott and Rogue.
  • Strange Girl
  • Wakeup Makeup: Rogue is never seen without her makeup. Even when Avalanche pushed her into a pool, or when she just steps out of the shower, her make-up is completely intact. Though there is one episode in season 4, "Cajun Spice," where Rogue falls into a lake and comes out makeup-free.


Code Name: Shadowcat

Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde

Real Name: Kitty Pryde

"I don't have any gifts, just a curse."

Voiced by Maggie Blue O'Hara

A mutant from Northbrook, Illinois whose ability allows her to become intangible. Shadowcat is the youngest member of the team and is characterized by her upbeat nature and cheerfulness. She usually pals around with Nightcrawler since they are about the same age. Her on-again off-again romance with Avalanche was a subplot that continued through all four seasons. She first develops a crush on him while still in school, but it turned out he was only using her to steal test answers. Later, even though they are on opposite teams, Lance saves her life and her opinion of him changes. They date for a while, but their differences break them up, before ultimately reigniting their romantic relationship after the fight against Apocalypse.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Somewhat subverted in that Kitty was attracted to the good person inside of Lance. Although to a 15 year old girl being pursued by an older bad boy wasn't exactly a turn-off.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: The only class she doesn't ace is gym.
  • Dating Catwoman: With Avalanche.
  • The Ditz: She started as one, but this mostly stopped after the first season.
    • Ditzy Genius: She's shown to be well versed with the Mansion's computer system, and was stated to be a straight A student. So its more that she just acts a little ditzy.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Her driving even scares Wolverine, due to her habit of phasing the car through obstacles. Scott was so scared he swore to never drive again.
  • Informed Judaism: The only evidence that she's Jewish is a scene of her lighting the menorah in her home in the Christmas Episode.
  • Intangible Girl
  • Morality Pet: Since season two on, definitely Lance's.
  • Naive Newcomer: She definitely feels like a fish out of water when she first joins the X-Men, being particularly weirded out by Kurt's appearence at first.
  • Official Couple: She gets back together with Lance in the last episode.
  • Pettanko: Word of God is that Kitty is the "smallest" of the girls at the school. Makes sense since she's the youngest of the girls, and maybe of the team in general if Spyke doesn't beat her out for it.
  • Platonic Life Partners: With Kurt.
  • Plucky Girl
  • The Smart Girl: She can be a brainiac sometimes.
  • Teen Genius: A straight A student (although her intelligence was somewhat downplayed compared to other versions of Shadowcat).
  • Valley Girl: She stopped, like totally, after the first season. For sure.

The Teachers

Code Name: Wolverine

Wolverine/Logan

Real Name: Logan

"We're definitely gonna need more instructors. An' maybe a couple of tanks."

Voiced by Scott McNeil

The X-Men's top fighter and chief drill instructor to the students. His keen senses help him track down adversaries and alert him of danger ahead. His healing powers make him nearly impossible to defeat in a brawl. Adamantium claws are capable of shredding enemies and just about any inanimate object as well. His past is a mystery to everyone, including himself. It is a rather lengthy past as well because his healing factor has drastically slowed the aging of his body. He was already an adult by World War II. Unlike in other X-Men series, Wolverine plays a minor role in X-Men: Evolution and is more of a Papa Wolf than carousing Badass.

  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He gradually warms up to Kitty.
  • Cool Old Guy: The guy was around helping Captain America in WWII.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Can be at times; see Training from Hell below.
  • Healing Factor

  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Kitty and Rouge.
  • Mysterious Past: Some episodes go into his past... a little.
  • Opposite Gender Clone: X-23
  • Papa Wolf: Hurt any of his X-Men at your own risk. Especially Kitty and X-23.
  • Team Dad
  • Training from Hell: This trope gets first deconstructed, and then reconstructed - in the first X-23 episode, it's established that he can be pretty harsh with training the younger X-Men-to-be, to the point that Rogue wouldn't admit she'd gotten better (after the last episode's events) to avoid it. After his experience with the aforementioned Tyke Bomb, he loosens up because "Sometimes you just gotta let kids be kids". He realizes that pushing teenagers too far in training is detrimental, and he eases up by the end. Contains hilarity in that Rogue of all people was pretending to still be sick in an effort to evade his training session.
  • Wolverine Claws
  • Wolverine Publicity: Subverted. Amazingly, Wolverine was mostly a background player due to being an adult on a show where the focus was on the kids. And it worked pretty well, mind you.
  • The Worf Effect: Need to make The Juggernaut look like a huge threat? Have him kick Wolverine's ass.


Code Name: Storm

Storm/Ororo Munroe

Real Name: Ororo Munroe

"I'm a weather-witch, not a snow plow. I'm doing the best I can."

Voiced by Kirsten Williamson

One of Professor Xavier's top teachers, Storm is seen as a role model by the students. She is also one of the most powerful mutants alive due to her ability to manipulate the weather. One of her few weaknesses is her claustrophobia which was explored in her one spotlight episode African Storm.


Code Name: Beast

Beast/Hank McCoy

Real Name: Hank McCoy

"I can see now that teaching mutants will require entirely different skills."

Voiced by Michael Kopsa

Hank McCoy was a popular teacher at Bayville High who held a dark secret. His mutation gave him a burly physique with large hands and feet and unparalleled agility, but also a feral side to his mind. After school hours, he worked on a serum he hoped would stop his primal regressions when simply reciting Shakespeare wasn't enough to keep him focused. But unfortunately his beastly side was set free by an attempt to make a better serum, turning him into a blue furred beast. He damaged the school, also threatening Principal Kelly in an uncontrollable rage. The X-Men eventually were able to locate and subdue him. Soon the rage subsided, but life would never be the same. His rampage at the school and his drastic and permanent change in physical appearance would make any public appearance too startling for a general population unaware of the mutants among them. Hank remained at the Xavier Institute as a teacher for the New Recruits. Similar to Wolverine and Storm, he is more of a bit player due to the focus being on the students.


Code Name: Professor X

Professor X/Charles Xavier

Real Name: Charles Xavier

"You know, handling defeat is as much mark of your character as coming home the victor. And from what I see, this was a lesson, apparently, much needed."

Voiced by David Kaye

The world's most powerful telepath and founder of the X-Men. His goal is to maintain a peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants. He created a school which trains mutants to use their powers responsibly and discreetly in order to prevent panic from the general human population. This philosophy puts him at odds with mutants such as Magneto who believe mutants should be dominating humanity rather than hiding from it.

New Mutants

Code Name: Iceman

Real Name: Robert 'Bobby' Drake

The unofficial leader of the 'baby' group the New Recruits. Bobby joined, along with his team, during the break between season 1 and 2 and appears mostly in B-plots and eventually becomes the Sixth Ranger once Spyke leaves the main team. YMMV on whether or not he's the coolest new addition or the Too Dumb to Live Scrappy who ruins the series (Thought primarily the first option to the less crazy fans).

Code Name: Cannonball

Real Name: Samuel 'Sam' Guthrie

The tall, blond southern boy who joined at the same time as the other New Recruits. More well rounded and likable than Bobby in some terms, he's easily identifiable by being a head taller than most of the students, even some of the original cast.

  • American Accents: A southern drawl, not really as strong as most versions though, tends to be Flanderized in Fanfics.
  • Barrier Warrior: Doesn't ever use his power to fight, he's more of an evacuation type person. In the final fight, all he does is fly Rogue to Apocalypse's strong hold.
  • Flight: His power allows him to fly like a rocket, however unlike most people, he can't stop or float, meaning his only way to land is to crash land.
  • Heterosexual Life Partners: With Bobby.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Could have beat Logan in a race, but got cocky and decided to use his powers. Lost horribly because of this.
  • Geek: Word of God bios for the New Recruits refer to him as such.
  • Gentle Giant: The tallest of the New Recruits, but easily the nicest.
  • The Klutz: He Certainly crashes a lot.
  • The Lancer / The Big Guy: To the New Recruits anyway.

Code Name: Jubilee

Real Name: Jubilation Lee

Usually seen with Bobby, Sam, and Jamie, Jubilee is the second most seen female mamber of the New Recruits during Season 2. She's Put on a Bus despite proving to be rather popular amongst some of the fans when the executives decided there were too many characters. She has the ability to shoot firework-like 'plasmoids' either in the shape of actual fireworks or beams. Easily identifiable by her yellow jacket.

  • Asian Airhead
  • Brilliant but Lazy: Her Word of God official bio describes her as this, not really seen however.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Jubilation, never referred to as such in the show though.
  • Lethal Harmless Powers: She fires explosive plasmoids! Regularly seen firing them at friends/other students.
  • One of the Boys: Only seen hanging out with Girls in two appearences, every other scene, she's always with Bobby (And to lesser extent Sam and Jamie), either for his crazy adventures, or for the Ship Tease.
  • Put on a Bus: Alongside Wolfsbane she was written out at the begining of season 3. Came back in the finale to help fight Apocalypse.
    • Unfortunate Implications: The only two new recruits to be written out were both girls, the given reason? Their parents didn't think it was safe for them to be there anymore(Jubilee was an orphan in the comics), it doesn't seem that bad, except that the most logical person to write out was Roberto, having little screen time and only speaking in one episode.
  • Shout-Out: Constantly wears a yellow jacket when out of uniform. Season 2 ends with her clothes damaged enough to turn her normal jeans into shorts, making her look exactly how she did in the comics (Only with longer hair).
  • Tomboy: How some fanfics about her are usually written.

Code Name: Magma

Real Name: Amara Aquilla

The only one to get a focus episode (Two actually) but also the most powerful. Magma, as her name suggests, can generate heat and fire, along with to some extent control lava. A princess in her home country, Amara is one of the more girly members of the group, not to mention a little of a Shrinking Violet at first.

Code Name: Wolfsbane

Real Name: Rahne Sinclair

A Scottish mutant who can turn into a wolf or half whenever she wants, who primarily spent her appearances in the background or as a wolf, but got an episode or two speaking. Like Jubilee, she was written out of the series, despite being popular, thought her lack of importance to any plot is a noted factor.

  • Fan Service: Got a swimsuit scene in the episode 'Retreat', not only the first to do so but also the only New Recruit girl to wear a two piece.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: She's a mutant human girl who can turn into either a full wolf or half wolf/human hybrid, her clothes slowly disapear while transforming (Likely made of unstable molecules, this being a Marvel Universe after all) only to reform while transforming.
  • Not Completely Useless: Most of the time her power to turn into a dog seemed almost completely useless, until the kid's needed her to sniff out Beast after he'd been kidnapped by some Big-Foot hunters.
  • Put on a Bus: Until she was called in to help in the finale.
  • Scotireland: Downplayed. She has a very little to non-existant accent that almost sounds like the voice of a fairy.
  • Ship Tease: She played around with Sam & helped Jamie with Homework which may explain her ships with them, butthe most popular Rahne-related ships with Roberto, based on the episode Retreat (being the only episode both of them actually speak in full sentances)
  • The Voiceless: As said before, got two speaking roles, in one of them all she does is laugh a little, usually she's just in the background or in her wolf form.

Code Name: Sunspot

Real Name: Roberto Da Costa

A rich Brazilian boy with the power to absorb solar energy to gain super human capabilities, such as strength, speed, agility, and, in the first episode of season two, fly. He does very little for the show but still retains a small fanbase of Needs More Love type fans.

Code Name: Berserker

Real Name: Ray Crisp

A Morlock in the comics, Ray is arguably one of the more popular characters in the series who got considerably more development here than his comic self.

  • Aborted Arc: Was originally going to have a rivalry with Sunspot, but it was dropped after one episode.
  • Ascended Extra: Apears once in the comics as an Axe Crazy Morlock, here appears in a good number of B-Plots, usually as Bobby's second Male Best friend an speaks in almost every appearence.
  • Berserk Button: Aparently hitting him in the face with a ball when using your powers in a non-powered game of Volley ball is a sure fire way to set him off.
  • Berserker Rage: His codename is Berserker, after all.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Word of God claims this as the reason they created him, they wanted a New Recruit who has a 'Badboy' vibe, someone who acts tough but is really nice. In the show however he's almost always expressing the heart part.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Hey, it's Eddy!
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly, he comes off as one of the most mature of the New Mutants. Yes, he has a temper but that doesn’t distract that he’s the least seen when the other members are doing their normal shenanigans
  • Psycho Electro: Not as powerful or as psychotic as some, but does have serious anger issues which were adressed at times and did hold himself out against STORM (who at the time was upgraded by Apocalypse).
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: He has blond hair with a spiked, orange fringe that to most people just looks ridiculous.

Real Name: James 'Jamie' Madrox

The youngest of the ensemble, Jamie is like the little brother none of them wanted, his power to duplicate himself, his clothes, and any object he's holding but only when hit with external kinetic energy (such as being hit/knocked over), which causes him to get in the way due to his clumsiness.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Not really anyone's brother, but they act like it nonetheless.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: A rare, non-Scrappy case!

  • In Name Only: Compared to his comic self at least, Who was the same age as most of the other X-Men.

A mutant from New York City and also Storm's nephew. He has the ability to project bonelike spikes from his skin. Spyke is stubborn and lacks respect for authority. This often puts him in conflict with the other X-Men. When his powers can't be controlled he leaves the X-Men, and joins the Morlocks, becoming their champion.

A mutant with the ability to manipulate the earth by generating seismic waves from his body. Avalanche came from the same home town as Shadowcat, but had a much different upbringing. He grew up as a streetwise orphan who seemed angry at the world. Confused and alienated, he was a perfect target for Mystique and the Brotherhood. Lance was one of the most complex characters. He started off as a punk, before becoming more of a troubled youth, and then ultimately showing responsibility and maturity. His romantic interest in Kitty Pryde and their relationship played a major role in his attempts to change. It even leads him to attempt a major Heel Face Turn by joining the X-Men. As the oldest Brotherhood member, Lance is often the defacto leader and feels responsible for the others.

  • Anti-Villain (Type I or III): With the ability to be an Anti-Hero (Type III or IV).
  • Arch Enemy: Cyclops
  • Berserk Button: Since Season Two on, for your own good don't hurt or threat Kitty...
  • Composite Character: Lance has very little to do with the comic book Avalanche outside of team affiliation. He is more an Expy of the X-Men character Julio Esteban Richter aka Rictor. In his looks, personality, and the way he channels his seismic powers. In the first season he had more in common with his comic self, but not by much.
  • Dating Catwoman: He dates Shadowcat during the second season. The Brotherhood tease him for this.
  • Dishing Out Dirt
  • Evil Counterpart/Foil: To Cyclops - both are a Big Brother Mentor and usually the most responsible member of their team, both are orphans, and both tend to take the initiative. The differences end there though as while Scott is calm and collected, Lance is impatient and impulsive, and Scott has turned his own misfortunes in life towards more productive endeavours as opposed to Lance's self-destructive behaviour. Small wonder they're each other's Arch Enemy.

  • Love Redeems: Somewhat. He definitely tries to change for Kitty, but can go only so far, and decides to not stay in the New Mutants group after his disastrous and brief stunt there. His heroic acts in No Good Deed had nothing to do with Kitty, which showed he had it in him all along. He also showed up with the rest of the Brotherhood in Ascension part 2 to help the X-Men fight Apocalypse after first refusing. He immediately goes to save Kitty, which can be either seen as their romance being reignited or a simple Pet the Dog moment from him.
  • Menace Decay: Went from a unsympathetic Psycho for Hire or Punch Clock Villain in the comics to an angry, yet notably sympathetic character in the show.
    • And in the series itself, in his first episode he's destroying his school and in following episodes his powers generate an Oh Crap response, to being love stuck on Kitty for the second season to then not even bothering any more either way to the third. In the fourth he becomes a Jerk with a Heart of Gold and is shown to be the most powerful member of the Brotherhood, possibly even more so than the other villains not over 50.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: If you switch his first and last names you get pretty close to his codename.
  • Tall, Dark, Handsome AND Snarky.
  • Troubled but Cute: Bad boy, check. Rebel attitude, check. Antisocial behavior, check. Difficult home life, check. Fingerless gloves, check. Heart of gold, check.
  • Unskilled but Strong: Has the potential to be the most destructive recurring mutant in the series and for the most part is, but he lacks the control and the patience to make him a real powerhouse.

Code Name: Quicksilver

Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff

A mutant that can move at the speed of sound. Pietro is arrogant, deceptive and his loyalty is always in question. He would betray the Brotherhood and his sister Wanda at the command of his father Magneto, yet showed no compassion at his father's disappearance at the hands of Apocalypse. Pietro has a stormy relationship with his twin sister, although their relationship, as well the one with his Brotherhood teammates, improve during season four.

  • The Casanova: Or at least, the potential to become one. The episode with the dance has Boom-Boom implying that the members of the Brotherhood (besides Lance) don't want to go because they can't get dates. Blob and Toad go with Boom-Boom. Pietro shows up with four random girls.

It’s to be noted that Pietro is often the Brotherhood member who wins the most battles (or at least before the inclusion of his sister on the team), combined with Motor Mouth Casual Danger Dialogue

A repugnant mutant who physically resembles a humanoid toad. And like a toad, can leap great distances, and possesses an extremely long and agile tongue. A social outcast, he has found some acceptance with the Brotherhood, where his talents for thievery and petty crime can be put to good use. Toad is often portrayed as the whipping boy of the Brotherhood, but he also is treated like a little brother, and is even protected by Blob. Toad is known for his extremely poor hygiene which doesn't help him in his attempts to get Wanda Maximoff to like him.

"Unstoppable? Meet the unmovable!"

A humongous boy from Texas, Fred Dukes is among the strongest mutants in the world. Blob is the least intelligent of the Brotherhood, but his brawn helps counterbalance his lack of brains. His hefty build and less than charming personality often make him a target of public ridicule. The social isolation and bad temper made him a prime candidate for recruitment into the Brotherhood by Mystique. He was initially treated well by the X-Men until he attempted to kidnap Jean.


Code Name: Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff

Real Name: Wanda Maximoff

"You haven't seen me angry, until now!"

Wanda was sent to an asylum by her father Magneto shortly after her mutant powers emerged. Magneto claimed it was necessary because he was unable to help control her dangerous powers, but Wanda always resented him for it. Mystique helped Wanda escape from the asylum in order to bolster the Brotherhood ranks. However, Wanda was more interested in revenge against her father than fighting for the Brotherhood. Wanda suffers from emotional damage from her years locked up in an asylum. But she appears to regain much of her sanity as the series progresses. Wanda has the ability to "hex" other mutants' powers to make them go haywire.

The mysterious Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants alive. He has a long history with Charles Xavier, both as a friend and an enemy. Magneto has given up on the idea of peaceful co-existence between mutants and humans. His philosophy is in direct opposite to that of Xavier, who still believes mutants and humans can live together in relative peace. Magneto envisions himself and other mutants dominating over humanity as the only way to prevent bloodshed between the two groups. However, Magneto's dream is threatened by Apocalypse who has his own plans for world domination.


Code Name: Mystique

Mystique/Raven Darkholme

Real Name: Raven Darkholme

"Come on boys, let's get out of here before you're invited to a slumber party."

Mystique is the leader of the Brotherhood, but took orders from Magneto, until leaving him after she felt he questioned her loyalty and talent. She is intelligent, cunning, deceptive and dangerous with her with shapeshifting abilities. She changed into human form and used the name Raven Darkholme to became the Bayville High school principal, giving her the opportunity to monitor Xavier's students as well as her Brotherhood members. Mystique infiltrated and destroyed Xavier's school by disguising herself as Professor X. Several students barely escaped with their lives. She raised Rogue and is Nightcrawler's mother, although neither knew her true identity growing up.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: She is turned into one of Apocalypse's Horsemen.
  • Evil Plan: She pulls off a great one on the X-Men by impersonating the then-missing Professor X and getting Wolverine to go missing so he won't identify her. Only Scott's surprise arrival foiled this.

  • Race Lift: Mystique receives a mid-series version of this trope. In the first season, Mystique had light blue skin, white eyes with gray pupils, dark red hair, and violet lips. From the second season onwards, her skin is a dark bluish-green, her eyes are yellow with black pupils, her hair is a lighter shade of reddish-orange, her lips are dark blue, and her facial structure is also different in shape. However, her voice is still the same.

Boom-Boom is a mutant with the ability to create explosive balls of energy. Her father took advantage of her mutant abilities to commit crimes when she was younger. She eventually found a home at the Institute, although her stay was short-lived. She found she fit in much better with the rebellious Brotherhood and liked having four boys she could manipulate and pull pranks on. She was kicked out of the Brotherhood when Mystique returned. She is later seem hanging out with the X-Men through her friendship with Magma, but never rejoins them and appears to live on her own. While not malicious, the lack of discipline and mischievousness made her a troublesome guest for anyone willing to take her in.

Code Name: Sabretooth

Sabretooth/Victor Creed

Real Name: Victor Creed

"One shall fall by the other's hand. Our destiny we can't change it."

Voiced by Michael Donovan

A violent man who has a deep enmity against Logan. Little is revealed about Sabretooth's past except that he had some involvement with Wolverine and the Weapon X project (possibly being a test subject), and that he is one of Magneto's most loyal followers.


Code Name: Gambit

"It's the X-Men, and it looks like they want to play!"

Trained as a thief, Gambit is a mercenary who will give his services to the highest bidder. He appears to have developed quite the soft spot for Rogue, especially during the season four episode, "Cajun Spice", in which he gives her his favourite card (the Queen of Hearts, his "lucky lady") at the end.


Code Name: Colossus

Colossus/Piotr Rasputin

Real Name: Piotr Rasputin

"I am not a lackey! I... I have no choice."

Piotr is pressured into serving Magneto, who had abducted his family. He appeared to have found and freed them before the end of the series.

Pyro is a crazy pyromaniac with a cackling laugh and a broken Australian accent. He has an affinity for destruction and complete ignorance of consequence border on outright insanity. In one notable scene he is watching footage of Magneto's supposed demise at the hands of Apocalypse, rewinding, playing back, and laughing several times. He differs from his comic book counterpart in that he needs a constant stream of flame to sustain his power.


Code Name: Mastermind

Mastermind/Jason Wyngarde

Voiced by Campbell Lane

He's the gang's telepath. While his comic book counterpart could only cast illusions, this version of Mastermind uses telepathy, as well as reading and even rewriting memories of other people like what he did to Wanda.

Apocalypse

"The future came to me in that craft- I have embraced it and merged with its power so that I may lead the evolution of the human race."

Apocalypse is an ancient Egyptian mutant; he's the oldest character on the show, and also the most powerful. Milennia ago, he conquered Egypt and planned to use advanced technology (stolen from the previous Pharaoh, who had "descended from the sky") to reshape the world in his own image- turning many humans into mutants, and killing the rest. His court balked at the idea and used his own technology to imprison him; however, Apocalypse was still able to reach out telepathically and manipulate his release. Steals the spotlight from Magneto as premier villain in the later part of the series.

  • Big Bad: Season 3 and especially 4
  • Continuity Nod: Beast mentions that Apocalypse stole his tech from Pharaoh Rama-Tut. This is true in the comics as well, where Rama-Tut was an alias of Kang the Conqueror.
  • Curb Stomp Battle: Practically every time he fights someone, it ends like this. There is one time when Storm gives him pause, but even that is brief.

Apocalypse's servant; whether a mutant, a mystic, or something different is unknown, but he possesses psychic abilities that allow him to confront even Xavier on his own level. Believing himself to be a servant of destiny, he manipulated both the X-men and the Acolytes to steal the three keys to Apocalypse's prison, expecting to be rewarded by being made his right hand. Instead, upon gaining his freedom the ancient mutant withdrew his minion's powers and left him to his fate.

  • Bald of Evil
  • The Dragon: To Apocalypse: while Mesmero is much weaker physically, he has the advantage of being able to move freely.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Which he learns when Apocalypse abandons him.
  • Mind Rape: Mesmero introduces himself to the audience by turning a sleeping Jean's dreams into nightmares.

Real Name: Unknown (named Laura Kinney in the mainstream comics)

"Protect me? I left to protect you!"

Voiced by Andrea Libman (X23) and Brittney Irvin (Target X)

Trained from birth by HYDRA to become the ultimate weapon, X-23 underwent the same Weapon X modifications as Wolverine, being given his healing factor and adamantium bones and claws. She escapes, breaks into rival spy agency SHIELD and researches the X Men, before stalking the students over the institute. She begins capturing all of them in a bid to lure Logan into a confrontation, believing him to be responsible for what was done to her. Logan convinces her that he, too, is a victim, before chasing her off so that Nick Fury wouldn't find her.

She would later appear after HYDRA captures Wolverine, where the two would work together in a bid to survive as Logan tries to talk X-23 out of seeking revenge.

"Gimme a break kid, I started the morning by falling out of an airplane."

  • Heel Face Turn: At the end it's revealed she joins the X Men.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather
  • I Work Alone: She keeps shoving away Wolverine when he tries to help. Turns out it's not only because of the threat from HYDRA or SHIELD, but she intends to kill off HYDRA and Logan might get in the way.

The Morlocks

The Morlocks

"You're with the Morlocks, we understand you"

The Morlocks are a secretive group of underground mutants whose mutations make them unable to live unnoticed on the surface. When the group first appears their survival is being threatened as the waste from a sports drink being dumped into the sewers is unintentionally poisonous to mutants. To stop the dumping they repeatedly break in to taint the batches they aided by Spyke/Evan Daniels who was rescued after being poisoned and who's mutations are becoming more obvious psychically, after which he chooses to stay and become their champion.

In the four season they appear in a single episode where they are stilling living in the sewers trying to survive the anti-mutant uprising by staying hidden. But appear on the surface after being directly attacked by Duncan Matthews to defend themselves before return into hiding.
