Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy!

Chuggaaconroy is a Let's Player with over 900,000 subscribers. He is known for his high production values, his regular update schedule, his lighthearted and (mostly) family-friendly approach to games, his propensity for catchphrases and running gags (usually based on internet memes), and his hilariously overblown reactions to things that happen as he plays.

A hardcore Nintendo fanboy, almost every game he's LPed to date has been an exclusive for one of their systems (Okami was originally for the PlayStation 2, though it was released on Wii as well.) He has played at least one game on every Nintendo home console, including six on his personal favorite, the Nintendo GameCube. He is known for his opposition to Emulation, though he had to bend this personal rule to LP MOTHER and Mother 3, which are not legally available in North America. He started out doing exclusively RPGs, but beginning with Super Mario Sunshine, he started doing other genres as well, such as platformers.

He is also a big fan of the Mario series. Thus far, he has LPed seven Mario games: three RPGs, two platformers, an RPG platformer and Luigi's Mansion. He has indicated that he might do Super Mario Galaxy 2 at some point, but thus far he has not revealed any definite plans for it.

After more than two years at it, he became a YouTube Partner, which was unprecedented among Let's Players (multiple others have since become partners), due to the legal "gray area" that showing game footage entails. He's also joined a new collective of gamers called The Game Station, which looks to be shaping up as an alternative to Machinima.com. Finally, he's well known for his work with The Speed Gamers, even appearing live at their home base for two separate marathons, the second of which was the first time since he started doing LPs that he's shown his face on the internet (he appeared wearing a mask in the first).

He's also collaborating with Proton Jon and Nintendo Capri Sun on a collective LP account, known as The Runaway Guys.

• Artifact Title: His username is supposed to be Chugga A. Conroy, but he found that most websites don't allow spaces or punctuation in their usernames, leading to the somewhat strange moniker of Chuggaaconroy.
• Artificial Stupidity: In Pikmin and its sequel, the titular species frequently disobey his orders and sometimes get into hazardous situations.

• Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny:
  • It's not exactly unheard of for him to get distracted during ramblings or walking to get something, significant or not. Possibly the funniest example is in his first episode of the Luigi's Mansion LP:

Chugga: "...and hopefully we'll find some trace of Mario-" *coins pop out of a drawer* "OOH! COINS! MONEY! SHINY! (Beat) Wow, I got easily distracted from that outro. Well, see you next time! And no, I do not have ADHD."

• • Sometimes he'll be explaining something, only to get distracted and never explain it again (or take a while to remember it). In episode 25 of Pikmin 2, he got distracted twice within a minute of each other:

Chugga: "If I'm not mistaken, that is the first Wollywog death we've had that there is a Skitterleaf, they're in the water...they're pretty harmless-" *Olimar and Louie both get knocked over by an attack* "-I say that and he knocks over both the captains!" *Louie gets hit again* "Then he knocks over Louie! He knocks over both captains at the same time, that was pretty good. The leaf doesn't really give that many Pikmin though and dang those leaves look really nice. Impressive for Game Cube standards, that's for dang sure." *cut to a different scene and he never finishes his original sentence about the Wollywog*

• • It happens again in Pikmin 2 Episode 46.

Chugga: "Um, I'm actually playing with a different controller, as if anybody cared. I'm playing using a -- Wow, it ate a white and died."

• • • He never finished the sentence.
• Author Tract: He's not obnoxious about it, but he does tend to go into monologues about why some obscure/less loved thing or character Needs More Love, in a way that sounds as if it were as obvious to everyone as to him.
• Awesome By Analysis: He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Pokémon games and uses it to great effect in his Let's Plays of them, often quoting detailed statistics about damage multipliers in specific situations (and mocking the AI for choosing attacks which are ineffective in that situation). Albeit most kids who grew up with the games and played past Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire could do the same thing, if only because they invetably wound up at Smogon somehow.
• Badass Adorable: Lampshaded]in his Wind Waker LP, when he says "Cuteness never looked so badass".
• Be Careful What You Say:
  • Chugga has started the Steve Meme AND the NO coin left behind movement, which he lampshaded:

Chugga: I know you guys will not like that for the no coins left behind movement which you ACTUALLY STARTED! I gotta watch what I say.

• • In episode 26 of Pikmin 2, he notes how the Water Wraith hasn't spawned yet in the Submerged Castle. It spawns IMMEDIATELY after he does so.
  • And when he wanted to die to get more money.
  • Bill the Ghost Shroom from Super Paper Mario Episode 10 already has a Facebook page.
  • In his Super Paper Mario LP, Mimi says "you can call me Mimikins." He reveals that his mom called him Mimikins when he was three. ("I probably shouldn't say this but...")
• Berserk Button:
  • He goes to Beedle's shop and gives him the complimentary card, hoping for something good. He gets nothing. So he uses all 99 of his bombs trying to blow up Beedle's ship.

"DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!"

• • Ever since Pikmin ended, he doesn't like to hear about Steve (or any red leaf Pikmin), and goes out of his way to avoid mentioning him in any and all future LP's (usually). Proton Jon torments him with this in The Runaway Guys, but those instances are for that page.
• Better Than a Bare Bulb: Chugga is exceedingly fond of Lampshade Hanging, to the point where he points out almost every single trope that happens in the game, whether it be in something that he says or even the way he plays. Basically, if it's there, he's probably hung a lampshade on it.
• Big No:
  • Seen throughout, but especially at the end of this video around 15:30.
  • This one.
  • On occasion says "NO!", see Catch Phrase. When reading Smithy's dialogue, he'd have some epic ones.
• Big OMG:
  • Many times, including an infamous example from his Pokemon Crystal LP, when he caught a shiny Koffing.
    • This one got upstaged majorly by Bonus Episode 2 of his Pokémon Emerald LP, where he caught a Groudon with a Nest Ball at full health. Needless to say, he shatters our eardrums.
  • Borders on the LP's Running Gag during his Pikmin 2 videos, especially when it involves enemies getting the drop on him.
• Big "What?": When things don't go well for him he usually does this. His famous freakout from Pikmin actually provided the page quote. In his Super Luigi Galaxy-run, he even combined this with a mad laugh one or two times.
• Book Ends: He starts out his Majora's Mask LP with all three C-buttons empty, like the game forces. He ends the first half of the finale the same way.
• Born Lucky:
  • He hits the jackpot dozens upon dozens of times in his Paper Mario LP's, having the Pretty Lucky badge save him from many dangerous attacks, the curse increase his attack at very opportune moments (such as when he's using a Power Bounce) and getting his Star Points doubled after boss battles. IIRC, he probably only died once in the entirety of both games, and that was willingly to The Anti-Guy Unit. As if that wasn't enough to convince you, go see his fight against Macho Grubba in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Despite Grubba boosting his attack, speed, and his double attacks, NOT A SINGLE ATTACK hit Mario. Chuggaa basically walloped Grubba without breaking a sweat.
  • Chuggaa wanted a Koffing for his team during his play of Pokémon Crystal. So naturally the very next Pokémon he runs into after telling us this is a shiny one. He was a bit excited.
  • Also in his Pokemon Crystal LP when he caught a Phanpy, he checked its stats. Save for HP they were all 7.
  • In Pikmin 2, he cracked open three different eggs in the same area, at the same time... and got three purple potions. Considering that he was perpetually low on purple potions for most of this LP...
  • Subverted in the first episode of Pokemon Emerald, where he loses a so called "button mash battle" against May by a critical hit.
    • On the other hand, he's finding a lot of items. Especially from using "Pickup" with Slavinator -- he says he's never seen a Pokemon get items that often.
  • Also in Pokemon Emerald, when battling Steven, Kappa gets 4 critical hits in 5 turns. That kind of stuff usually never happens.
  • In his Super Mario Sunshine LP: "How often do you survive the instant kill spikes?!"

Chugga: What now, Megaman? Huh? WHAT NOW?!

• Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: In his Superstar Saga playthrough, he looks through the telescope at the summit of Hoohoo Mountain and gives goofy names to the other areas based on how they look through the telescope (ex. Woohoo Hooniversity becomes "Barn Island"). The exception is Joke's End, which he calls "a very tedious and annoying dungeon that no one likes playing".
• Breather Level: In-universe; Chuggaa considers Glutton's Kitchen to be this. Which was subverted when he ended up losing the largest amount of Pikmin up to that point.
• Brick Joke: One episode of his Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Let's Play is titled "This Video Ends With "Bitch"" at the very beginning. At the very end:

Chugga: Highly inappropriate?! We're walking down the fricking hall! Bitch!

• • In Majora's Mask when he starts the Anju & Kafei quest, he begins the video by playing Skyward Sword and lamenting that Majora's Mask doesn't have a run button. At the very end of the next video when he's finished with the quest, he says that it (either the in-game Heartwarming Moments or the Couple's Mask) was worth the lack of a run button.
• Brief Accent Imitation: As of 2011 has noted that he tends to slip into a vaguely Indian accent when reading out the dialogue of any 'quirky' character; in Majora's Mask he also does an Australian accent for any character who uses words like 'oi' or 'mate'.
• Broken Pedestal: Pikmin 2. At the end of the LP he decides that he thought the game was better than it was because it took him years to hunt down a copy, and wanting is better than having.
• Buffy-Speak: A common occurrence like during the Melty Molten Galaxy:

Chugga: "Let's feed him the things. The things, stuff, things, and yaaay! "Transfoooorm!" Wow, he's flying right into the place where the two lava things connect."

• • And then we have this gem from his Pokémon Crystal LP and lampshaded with the labels:

Chugga: "It's that thing! The thing with the stuff and the thing from the thing!" (as he says this, pictures of Suicune, Entei, Raikou and Tin Tower appear with arrows pointing to them and the words Chuggaa notes next to them. For Raikou, it's labeled as 'Other Thing' and Tin Tower's label is 'Thing they happen to be from.')

• But Thou Must!: Never actually give Chuggaa a purely cosmetic yes/no option of this type, because he will keep choosing "NO!!" for Rule of Funny.
• Call a Smeerp a Rabbit: He occasionally refers to the Pikmin as carrots. It's a subtle reference, as in-game, Olimar named the little creatures after a common food back on Hocotate, Pikpik Carrots. Even better, those kind of carrots do come in yellow and blue varieties.
• Call Back: When he does a game that's in the same series as one he's already played, Chuggaa will usually quote something that he once said during the original LP. Or whenever he feels like.
  • He nicknames his Torchic in Emerald Moegami, even going as far as saying its a call back to an older LP.
    • Later on, he catches a Phanpy in the Safari Zone and names it Darmani as a reference to his Crystal LP.
  • A shorter-range example, he notices that the final boss of Majora's Mask does the same dance that the Redeads from a few episodes ago did, and makes the joke again.
• Catch Phrase: Loads and loads.
  • Whenever he says the word "NO!", he'll say it the same way Robotnik did in that one episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, as seen in this video clip.
  • "I'm not gonna lie..."
  • "Nintendo Logic.", whenever something happens in the game that doesn't make sense. He states that he actually got this from someone else in his LP of Wind Waker.
    • Somewhat less frequently, but he also uses "Pokémon Logic" on occasion.
  • "Whaddya mean I did badly on time!?"
  • "Thank you, for dying!" Whenever he defeats a particularly annoying enemy.
  • "Ex-CUSE me!" whenever an enemy/obstacle damages him, especially during his ramblings. This is more of a reference to The Legend of Zelda animated series, more specifically the way Link says "Excuse me, princess".
  • Subverted Trope with "For the sheer fact" when he noticed it and stopped.
  • In his Thousand-Year Door Let's Play, at the end of every chapter he would yell:

"YOU GOT A CRYSTAL STAR!... AND YOU LEARNED THE SPECIAL MOVE [name of new special move]! END OF CHEE-APTER!"

• • • And now he's doing it with Super Paper Mario, only instead of Crystal Stars it's Pure Hearts.
  • A bit of a lesser example is "Shiny... is... good."
  • In his Wind Waker LP, he will often say "You/I got the thiiiiiing!" upon opening a large treasure chest. He even lampshades this.
  • In his Pikmin 2 and Luigi's MansionLP's, he has taken to saying "DOH I missed!" (referencing Wario's losing quote in Mario Party) whenever he misses an enemy or target. He's also been referencing Don't Eat the Mushroom whenever a poison mushroom shows up in Luigi's Mansion, even though Proton Jon isn't around for him to annoy.
    • Similarly he often imitates Mario's losing quote from the same games, "Ohh nooooooo!", often in a What Do You Mean It's Not Heinous? way.
  • When he gets annoyed in games related to Shigeru Miyamoto, Chuggaa often shouts "MIYAMOTO!" out of rage.
  • If he gets two of something at one time, he goes "Two for the price of one, gramma!"
  • (After being jumped by an enemy) "Hey buddy how's it going!"
  • From Pokemon Emerald, not an example, but a severe Lampshade Hanging: "...so very nice....And I keep saying "very nice"! It's like the new "sheer fact", the new "whatever", the new..."guys", the new..."one second, times up", the new... other overused things that I say."
  • Videos often end with "I think we're gonna end things off here [sic]".
  • If he remembers something wrongly about a game, he says "I ARE SMART!"
• Cherry Tapping / Cool and Unusual Punishment: In Pokemon Emerald, after he gets pissed off during a gym leader fight by his enemy repeatedly healing his star Pokemon, he deliberately does nothing the last turn, letting the residue of a burn he already inflicted finish off the enemy as an insult.
• Cliff Hanger: He likes to put small ones in, often before a boss fight (or occasionally in the middle of one).
• Completely Missing the Point: Obviously deliberate, but in his LP of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door:

*As the Goomba group: *"Who's the hottie ya got there with ya?" *As himself:* "How dare you talk about Frankly like that!"

• The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: In his Pokémon Emerald LP, he notes that Dragonbreath almost always seems to paralyze him when an enemy uses it, yet it rarely paralyzes an enemy when he uses it.
• Crack Pairing: Chuggaa jokes about someone (or even himself) dating a Wollywog.
  • Then a pairing between Gohma and Gomess.
• Creator Breakdown: Apparently went through one during the Super Mario Sunshine LP for health reasons. He didn't let any of it show, since he had to say it later on.
• Cross Player: Wanted to do this for Pokemon Fire Red, but decided not to because he knew he'd get made fun of.
  • He actually does it for Pokemon White 2.
• Curse Cut Short: A few times. It's clear that he's holding back, because whenever he's with The Runaway Guys he just lets them fly.
• Cuteness Proximity: Occasionally gets distracted by his cats doing things while he's trying to play.
  • Also when he meets the white Pikmin in Pikmin 2:

Chugga: Aww, aren't you a cute little Voldemort impersonator... and look at that, he belched! These things are adorable.

• Deadpan Snarker: Has shades of this. Mainly rises when sarcastically contradicting something obvious he said, like how getting a hundred Rupees is good.
  • In Wind Waker, the text boxes that describe items are basically filled to the brim with this.

Telescope. Usage: One cutscene in the whole game that starts in about five seconds. I'M DEAD SERIOUS. Grappling Hook. Usage: Swing around to achieve your wildest dream: being Tarzan. Skull Hammer. Need I explain more? IT'S A FREAKING HAMMER.

• Demonic Spiders: He really hates Wollywogs due to them causing many casualties to his pikmin.
  • He's expanded this now to most of the enemies in Pikmin 2, he still says they're cool and unique, but he still hates them.
• Department of Redundancy Department: "We are going to be going to..."
  • Also sometimes will introduce himself with "Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy!" in a special way , then do it again normally just a few seconds later.
• Determinator: Chugga will go through any lengths to get the most out of an LP, as shown in Emerald, where he bought an E-reader card from a collector, borrowed the Sapphire version of the game from the administrator of Bulbapedia with overnight shipping which he paid for by himself, then went through a very roundabout way to get the Eon Pass onto his Emerald cartridge because E-Reader support was removed from the game. The end result of this was over $140 spent on twenty minutes of gameplay just because he wants his fans to know what it's like.
• Disney Death: 98 blue Pikmin somehow managed to pull this off in one episode.
• Dissimile: "Now, I'm sure you guys are all familiar with the game of golf. [[[Beat]]] Yeah, this is nothing like that."
• Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Came up during his Pokemon Emerald LP, where nearly every time he mocked Kyogre for not attacking him and just using Rest, it would hit him with Sheer Cold.
• Don't Explain the Joke: As noted, he has a tendency to do this.
• Dreaming of Things to Come: Double-Subverted; in Pikmin 2 episode 34, Chuggaa had a dream he was going to lose a lot of Pikmin to a rock trap, nothing happened until the very end, when a bomb rock fell on top of his squad. He didn't lose any Pikmin, but he was pleased a trap fell from the ceiling on the floor he was thinking of.
• Eaglelander: Refers to himself as if he were Type 2. Played for Laughs.
• Embarrassing First Name: When he was younger, he wanted his name changed to Steve because he hated his real name, Emile. Then along came his Pikmin LP...
  • When O'Chunks calls the Mario "Maria" in Super Paper Mario, Emile says, "It's okay, Mario. I'm used to it. Everyone's called me Emily my whole life."
• Embarrassing Nickname: He revels in Super Paper Mario that his mother called him Mimikins when he was three.
• Epic Fail: Often on the Breather Level, and points out that it's probably the main reason people watch him.
  • Didn't happen on camera, but Chugga mentioned in the beginning of part 53 of his Earthbound LP that he cut his finger on a soap dispenser.
  • Another off-camera incident, during his Pikmin 2 LP, he tells us an interesting story about how he had one just earlier. He was used to using a laptop, but since it was in for repairs he used a desktop monitor instead. However, he was so used to just closing his laptop instead of pressing the power button on a monitor that he actually grabbed the computer screen and flipped it down onto his keyboard. Keep in mind his monitor is pretty darn big. (His computer's okay, though.)
  • According to Twitter, he got stabbed through the foot by the prongs on a power adapter. He doesn't seem to really care though.
  • Episode 29 of Majora's Mask has the Let's Play curse in full effect, as the doggy racetrack minigame that normally only takes him one or two tries takes him an entire hour and a half to do. Luckly, the dog would usually place between 3rd and 5th so he didn't lose all of his money betting on them.
  • In Episode 34 of Majora's Mask, he mentions a huge error in the Prima Player's Guide for that game. In the Great Bay Temple section, the guide recommends you play the Song of Time to get back to the entrance, not the Song of Soaring. You can guess how well that went for everybody who owned that guide.
  • Again from Majora's Mask, this one a running fail between episodes 42 and 43: He managed to trigger two switches perfectly on his first try in Stone Tower Temple, causing a chest containing a Stray Fairy to become accessible. However, the room he was in had two chests, and he mistook the switches as causing the other chest to appear. To top it all off, he missed seeing one of the chests (the one he thought he'd made appear), even when he went to the platform that chest was on to collect Rupees, leading him to conclude he had screwed it up. The post-recording edit text he puts up on screen during episode 42 berates his player self for being so stupid. Episode 43 has the traditional "Turn Your Headphones Down" warning pop up moments before his player self finally figures out where the chest was.
  • In Pokemon Emerald Episode 1, he lost the first rival battle.
    • Admittedly, that Mudkip got a lucky critical hit.
  • Chuggaaconroy attempts to play Megaman 9. Hilarity Ensues. That is all.
    • Then again, considering that he says he had never played a megaman game before in his life, this kind of performance was to be expected.

Chugga: For the love of Pringles in a bag! What the hell?!

• Everything's Better with Bob: In Pikmin, Bob is the Anti-Steve.
• Everything's Better with Monkeys: Monkey logic! Like Nintendo Logic, only 'monkier'.
• Evil Laugh: Does this sometimes. And it's always freaking hilarious.
  • Subverted at times in his playthroughs of Pokemon games; usually, if a character goes "Fufufufufu" he will read it as "Eff you eff you eff you eff you eff you".
• Evil Twin: Seen on a facebook page known as Evil Chuggaaconroy. Apparently inspired by Evil_Notch on twitter.
• Eye Scream: Mother 3, Chapter 7, Episode 24. The comments section is absolutely full of this.
• The Faceless: Used to be one of these for a long while, but is starting to avert it more lately, with The Speed Gamers and an interview or two.
• Face Palm: In Luigi's Mansion, he says to make sure a Boo doesn't go in a certain hallway. Said Boo does go in said hallway. Hilarity Ensues.
• Family-Unfriendly Aesop: Okami, in-universe, Lampshaded -- "Don't take any of your problems head on, make them the Sun God's problem, mm-hmm!"
  • In Majoras Mask: "Remember kids, if your best friend is going crazy, light them on fire."
• Fan Boy: Of Flannery, if at least to use his wording on the matter. He's also convinced she Needs More Love.
• Fan Nickname: In-universe: In the Princess Peach Stealth-Based Mission segments in the first two Paper Mario games, he refers to her as Solid Peach.
• First-Name Basis: He's only shown his full name once, as he prefers to go either by Chuggaaconroy or his first name Emile. (For the curious, his full name is Emiliano Rodolfo Rosales-Birou.)
• Flanderization: In his playthroughs of Pokemon Fire Red and Crystal, he occasionally caught legendaries in regular Poke Balls when he throws them for no real reason, other than running out of Ultra Balls. In Emerald, he starts trying to force this to happen by throwing all sorts of weak Poke Balls at every legendary he encounters. And even though it takes a while, he always catches them in a weak ball, at near-full health, or both.
• Flat What: In episode four of his Majora's Mask LP, he calls Jim a majestic stallion. There's a quick black screen with Chugga giving one of these right after.
• Foreshadowing: Chugga tends to be very tight-lipped regarding future LPs, but he'll occasionally insert clues about his next LP into his current one. For example, his Pokémon FireRed LP begins with a musical cue from the following LP, Super Mario Sunshine.
  • The final episode from Chugga's Super Luigi Galaxy LP also contains a Stinger about his following LP: Okami.
• The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You / Paranoia Fuel: This is starting to happen, not to the audience but to Chugga himself, with Steve crossing over into other games and invading his other Let's Plays.
  • In The Runaway Guys' Subspace Emissary, Proton Jon points out that a red leaf Pikmin appears with Olimar when in statue form, and Captain Falcon kills all the Pikmin except a red leaf on his first appearance, leading to the joke that this is actually Steve come to torment Chugga.
  • In his Pokemon Emerald Let's Play, he is challenged by a trainer named Steve who warns him "Don't forget what you've done to me! I'll make it so you can't forget!"
• Freeze-Frame Bonus: In the Story Intro for Super Paper Mario, when a bored Luigi exclaims "KERBLOOEY" while wishing some excitement would come up soon, Salvatore from The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker briefly pops up on the screen. He does it again in episode 19, this time with SuperJeenius' avatar when the word supergenius appears in the games text.
• Fridge Brilliance: In-Universe, this is why he defends Navi.
• Fridge Horror: An In-Universe example in Majora's Mask:

Chugga: Wait...If a mask contains a spirit, then why do you have Mario's face on your backpack?

• Fridge Logic: Lampshaded whenever Chugga points out "Nintendo Logic".
  • Also, a lot of his humor is based on doing this to his own voiceover, saying something before pausing to really think about what he said and why it's wrong -- sometimes leading to Verbal Backspace and That Came Out Wrong.
• Freudian Slip: Quoted word for word in Episode 40 of his Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask LP. His Slip? ...Well, you and Chugga both may need some Brain Bleach after that particular thought.
• Fully-Automatic Clip Show: This fan-made clip show made by thelisoncruz features a compilation of Chugga's many running gags and strange noises he made throughout the years. It was released during the Okami LP.
• Funny Background Event: In a Super Luigi Galaxy video, after Luigi obtains a star, a bug in the background can be seen wandering right off a ledge. Chugga even lampshades this with a caption pointing this out.
  • In Day 7 of Pikmin, he accidentally knocks several of his Pikmin off the ledge during the Burrowing Snagret fight. They start killing Wogpoles and harvesting their bodies while Chuggaa's attention is elsewhere.
  • At one point in the Wind Waker LP, a bird is seen paused in the middle of his attack animation right behind Link, who is performing a song on the Wind Waker.
  • It Gets Better. Chugga thought he lost 98 blue Pikmin due to all but 1 not showing up. He didn't notice the one. So while he's yelling NO NO, a blue Pikmin walks to the onion.
  • A bird humping a flower in Mother 3.
  • A minor one in Episode 23 of his Pikmin 2 LP; while he's busy fighting a Breadbug in the foreground, another one from earlier in the episode can be seen in the background, being dragged towards the ship by a purple Pikmin.
  • During the intro of one of his Super Mario Sunshine videos, an NPC can be seen running around while on fire at the beach.
  • In Majora's Mask, after he frees the Deku Princess, the monkey gets dunked again.
  • Bowser doing... something to the description-box in Super Paper Mario.
• Gender Blender Name: Teddy the female Slakoth. He does comment on this when he catches her (and a couple times later).
  • Also, although an in-game example, Tabitha, a member of Team Magma, who is male. Chuggaconroy lampshades this a lot, to the point of calling him "The Girlyman" and using a feminine voice for him at one point albeit a silly one.
• Genius Ditz: On one hand, he rambles and is known for making really bizarre, spacey comments, not to mention his Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny. On the other hand, he Shows His Work frequently, and has displayed knowledge about a number of unusual things, like spaghettification and Biblical myth.
• Gosh Dang It to Heck: Not so much in that he doesn't swear, but after the Super Mario Sunshine LP, you can hear him stopping himself from saying more adult words than before. But in comparison to his own LPs, this trope is averted when with The Runaway Guys.
• Got Me Doing It: In Super Paper Mario, after reading Merlee's Rhymes on a Dime wordplay, he starts accidentally rhyming several of his own sentences for the rest of the episode, berating himself every time he notices.
  • When he was co-commenting on one of AttackingTucans' Majora's Mask videos, he lampshaded this by mentioning the trope by name.
• Helium Speech: In his Thousand Year Door LP, he used this during the Chapter 6 Bowser Interlude.
• Here We Go Again: Chugga sighed when he saw 5 red leaf Pikmin which he called Steve -- which has a HUGE fandom -- knowing people will squeal over it.
• Heroic BSOD: He experiences a serious one in Episode 27 of his Pikmin 2 LP, after losing over 60 Pikmin to a Volatile Dweevil.
• Hilarious Outtakes: These failed attempts at beating his Rival in Pokémon FireRed
  • Another video and yet another of outtakes, these not all from one game but from various games that he'd played over the course of the previous year when these videos were released.
  • Here's a video of his failed attempts against the Steel Mechorilla from Mother 3. The video is over ten minutes long, which is probably saying something.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: The only reason Steve bothers him is because fans won't stop talking about him. The only reason fans won't stop is because Chuggaa kept bringing it up afterwards and indulging opportunities to mention him in later LPs. For as much as Steve haunts Chuggaa, a lot of it is Chuggaa's own fault. Since this is oddly ignorant of Chuggaa, it's possible he's just trying to ham it up and play it for laughs.
• Hollywood Tone Deaf: In-Universe, he considers himself to be this. He constantly refers to himself as "the worst singer ever" and "the most tone-deaf person on the planet," and apologizes whenever he starts singing. He frequently promises never to sing again, but that never seems to work out...
• Hope Spot: In his Emerald LP, his newest Mon Altair managed to just barely knock out Norman's Slaking, when it was the only pokemon Chuggaa had left. Chugaa relaxed and celebrated, thinking he'd beaten the Gym Leader... then he realized Norman still had one pokemon left.
• Hypocritical Humor: Making fun of Pokemon (Emerald) for using bad puns for names.
• I Just Want to Be Normal: According to his now-deleted 50 Facts video (according to Chugga, some of those facts were seriously outdated), he's actually autistic but tries "as hard as [he] can to act like a normal person because [he] always dreamed of being one as a child." Subverted, as he was actually misdiagnosed.
• In Memoriam: Though not dead, he has one for the Tentacool he catches in an episode of Emerald when he decides to leave her in his character's PC for the whole game and not on his team.

ACOOLTENT Episode 7 - Episode 7

• • Back from the Dead: Mentioned by name in Episode 41 when he starts using it as a slave for Dive. Later, he returns to Slateport City and visits the Name Rater offscreen. Enter ACOOLSLAVE!
  • On a more serious note, Chugga dedicated Chapter 6 of his MOTHER 3 LP towards Hinawa (Lucas's mother who died early in the game), dead relatives/friends of his viewers, and his uncle.
• Incredibly Lame Pun: He makes one and lampshades it in Episode 5 of his Super Mario Sunshine Let's Play. After noting that the wires attached to the windmills are likely power lines, he comes across some flower platforms that also have wires attached to them.

Chugga: What, are those flowers generating power, too? I guess they must be using flower power. Ohhhh, that was a horrible pun.

• • "GO TO HELL! GO TO SHELL! WHATEVER! [[[Beat]]] That is easily the worst pun I have ever made."
  • Heck, Chugga is the absolute king of these. He has an Incredibly Lame Pun every few episodes of his LP's, not to mention being the main "punner" of The Runaway Guys.
    • Some fans even believe that Chugga is The Annoying Orange in disguise.
• Insane Troll Logic: Nintendo Logic.
• Insurmountable Waist-Height Fence: Lampshaded in episode 14 of Luigis Mansion. "Why can't I just burn down these boards to get at whatever's past there?"
• Irony: As a hardcore Nintendo fan who has Lped games on every one of their systems, his first game was Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
  • It should also be worth noting that he has never beaten the original Super Mario Bros. despite him being a big fan of the series.
• Its Popular So It Sucks: In-Universe. While Chuggaa isn't nearly as hateful as practiced examples of this trope, he will often proudly state when he's unimpressed with something popular, and other times gush over obscure things. Only a mild example though, there are popular things (usually popular games) he still likes.
• Keet: He self-defines as "A five-year-old in a twenty-one-year-old body," and also calls himself "spazztastic and always bouncing off the walls."
• Large Ham: I dare you to find one episode where he doesn't send his mic levels careening into the red zone.
• Laughing Mad: A few moments, but a particularly memorable one occurs in Episode 8 of Emerald, where he lost all but one of his Pokemon to the Gym Leader's Makuhita. In desperation, he sends out his level 3 Zigzagoon (which he'd caught purely for the purpose of teaching "useless" HM moves). The moment his Zigzagoon entered the field, the poison Acooltent had inflicted ended up knocking the Makuhita out, netting Chugga the win. The Zigzagoon got enough EXP to jump from level 3 to level 7, by the way, and Chugga just kept laughing throughout the whole level-up process.
• Lava Is Boiling Kool-Aid: Lampshaded in Majora's Mask Episode 41 after a treasure chest spawns in the middle of a lava pool:

Chuggaa: Okay, seriously! That thing is made of wood! How does that not burst into flames?

• Let's Play: He is most known for these, although they're not the only videos that he's made.
• Let's Players Want Redheads: He was devastated when he learned that Jasmine wasn't an actual redhead.
  • In his Super Paper Mario LP, he also stated that he liked Peach better when she was a redhead, which she was in her 8-bit form.
  • His fanboyism towards Kumatora was a running gag during the Mother 3 LP.
  • While he never directly says this about Flannery, on the video of his Emerald LP where he says she Needs More Love, one of the comments said he loves her because she's a redhead.
• Limited Wardrobe: Nearly every time he appears on camera, he's wearing a blue striped polo shirt. This has not gone without note by his fans, who have Flanderized his love of polo shirts. In one Runaway Guys vid, he references this and then attempts to make out with his shirt.
• Lost Forever: His videos of Pokémon Platinum, which consisted of the important fights (Rival battles, fighting Team Galactic, Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Frontier Brains) and capturing the legendary Pokémon.
• Lucky Seven: The Phanpy in his Pokémon Crystal Let's Play had all its stats at 7.
• Manipulative Editing: Unintentional example in this outtakes video due to an audio skip:

• Meaningful Name: His Yoshi partner in The Thousand Year Door is called 'Scrap'. There are two reasons why: the first one is because he's a small fighter, the second is because he's a scrap of paper.
  • In Crystal his shiny Koffing is nicknamed 'Methane' because it's blue , a gas, and explosive .
• Memetic Molester: Considers Luigis Mansion to be into children, after the plumber makes a sketchy remark in Luigi's Mansion.
• Million-to-One Chance: In his Pokémon Crystal LP, he encounters a Shiny Koffing, and even states the odds of finding said Pokémon (1/8192). What makes it coincidental was that he stated that he wanted a Koffing for his team before said Shiny appeared.
  • The capture of Latias. He caught her, a Level 50 Pokémon at full health, with a Nest Ball. The chance of that happening is 0.4%.
  • And his capture of Groudon before that also counts as it had been caught under very similar conditions.
• Mind Screw: The gravity of some planets in the Super Luigi Galaxy playthrough fell into this for him.
  • In episode 17 of his Pikmin 2 Let's Play, his brain was broken as a result of a red Pikmin randomly dying shortly after being plucked from the ground. After the boss was dead. And there was nothing else to kill the Pikmin in the room .
  • He invokes this in one episode of Super Luigi Galaxy where he says something, then says he's going to get a lot of comments about it because viewers will pause the video and comment then continue the video and hear him say this and get their minds blown.
• Mister Exposition: Combined with Shown Their Work. He shows extensive information on Pokémon in all Pokémon games, including their stats, location, evolutions if they have them, and much more.
  • In Okami, he explained all of the references to Japanese mythology throughtout the game.
• Mood Whiplash: In the ending of his Thousand-Year Door LP, after a heartwarming scene that cuts to a beautiful shot of Rogueport in the morning:

"And to think, Rogueport looks like this every morning." (Beat) "Like it's in a sea of piss."

• • In his Pokemon FireRed LP, Chugga was annoyed with the trainers and muttered that he wished they'd all die, when he happened upon a trainer who was mourning his recently deceased Onix, his mood took a U-turn.
• Most Annoying Sound: 'In-universe', so to speak. Chuggaa hates the Woodfall Temple's music and the noise that Odolwa makes.
• Most Wonderful Sound: The screeching noise that the Grabbing Ghosts make just tickles Chuggaa.
  • Also claims this in Pokemon Emerald whenever he gets to do the voice of Mmaxie from Teamm Mmagmma!
• Motor Mouth: He can speak really fast when he wants to, especially during his introductions or freakouts.
• Mr. Fanservice: On the few occasions where he has shown his face, he tends to amass fangirls.

• MST3K Mantra: He often points out ridiculous parts of the game, calling them "Nintendo Logic".

• My God, What Have I Done?: Played for laughs in Super Paper Mario, when witnessing Fracktail's death animation. He comes to the conclusion that Fracktail was a robot with a heart, and thus could love.

• My Name Is Not Durwood: People apparently often mispronounce his name, Emile, as Eel. Chugga calls this out during Super Luigi Galaxy, saying it's not that hard to pronounce.
• Needs More Love: Invoked. This is more or less his "theme". Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Pokemon FireRed are the only games he's played that didn't have notable criticism. Super Mario Galaxy didn't either, but it fits the theme due to him playing as Luigi, who is considered more of an underdog compared to Mario.
  • The main reason that Chugga decided to LP Super Mario Sunshine was his belief that it was an extremely underrated and under-LPed game.
  • Ditto for Okami, as he considered it at least semi-obscure.
  • And also for the Mother series.
  • Less than usual, but also for The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask.
  • And Pokemon Emerald, as it is one of the least popular Pokemon series.
  • Super Paper Mario is by far the most polarizing Paper Mario game.
• Never Trust An End-of-Episode Preview: The end of his semifinal Pokemon Emerald episode shows a dramatic reveal of Pokemaniac Steve wanting a rematch, leaving a Cliff Hanger for the finale. In the finale, Chugga beats Steve in under half a minute and spends most of the actual episode fighting Steven.
• Nightmare Fetishist: A little bit, the Happy Mask Man is one of his favorite Zelda characters and he loves the theme of the final hours.
  • He also goes into a disturbing level of detail on the phenomenon of sphagettification early in the Super Luigi Galaxy playthrough, and lampshades it with this caption: "Enjoy your Nightmare Fuel!"
• Nightmare Fuel: He claims the only genuinely scary thing in Luigis Mansion is Luigi's Off-Model face icon in the save screen when seen in high video quality.
• No Dialogue Episode: For the most part anyway. During the second half of the Okami finale, Chuggaa only said one thing towards the beginning of the battle and spends every other moment in silence.
• No Indoor Voice: He can get really loud when he's excited.
• N-Word Privileges: Several times, he's claimed he's allowed to make fun of the French because he's part French himself. In Super Paper Mario, he then goes on to say that pretty much all the stereotypes are true.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Taken Up to Eleven during the Majora's Mask LP in regards to things that will be important later in the game.
  • In Thousand Year Door, he deliberately commentates as though he doesn't know how the mysteries in certain chapters will inevitably play out, even letting his partner eat a cake he knew was poisoned.
  • Reaches rather ridiculous heights in his MOTHER 3 LP where he seems to be genuinely confused when Boney is disguised by wearing a T-shirt and a cap as well as standing upright. Que massive surprise on his part when the "dog-like dude" removes his disguise in the next chapter and it turns out to be Boney.
• Oh Crap: In his Wind Waker LP, he threw a bomb at a door. It bounced off and it landed in front of him.

• Opening Narration: Almost always opens with "Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy! And welcome back to Let's Play (insert game here)! In the last episode, we (brief summary of the previous episode). In this episode..."
  • Nowadays he typically says something off topic about where he is in the game, then gets to his traditional narration.

• • Chugga's intro for episode 3 of Majora's Mask was actually in sync with the clock dings. Complete with random pauses and video zoom out.
• Overly Long Gag: Starting in Chapter 7 Episode 18 of his Mother 3 LP, when the characters ingest the psychedelic mushrooms, Chugga speaks in a high-pitched stoned voice for the entire sequence: a total of 14 minutes. Apparently the joke was annoying to so many that Chugga uploaded a second version that mutes it.
• Pandering to the Base: In-Universe. Chuggaa feels like he's doing this any time he (positively) mentions Steve the Pikmin after his Let's Play of Pikmin 1.
• Perfectly Cromulent Word: From his Pikmin 2 LP, one of the commenters gave Chugga "ezirewolf" as the verb describing the Withering Blowhog's act of turning flower Pikmin back to leaf Pikmin.
• Performance Anxiety: Like all Let's Players, Chugga suffers from the "Let's Play curse", where he plays worse on-camera than off-camera. Lampshaded every single time it happens.
• Pet Peeve Trope: Palette Swap, and specifically populating the last stage of an RPG with Palette Swap super versions of the Mooks we've already seen rather than original enemies. He says the lack of this trope in Pokémon is one reason he likes it so much.
• Pet the Dog: The Waterwraith actually let Chuggaa/Olimar off easy on a few occasions in a row in Pikmin's Submerged Castle. Of course, Chuggaa lampshades it.
• Poe's Law: For April Fools Day 2009, he did an intentionally poor LP of Mega Man 2, which was actually a parody of all the poor quality LP's that particular game has received for some reason. Apparently, a lot of people took it seriously; he later felt it necessary to add a caption stating that his work was a parody and not a real LP.
• Pointy-Haired Boss: Seems to view The President of Hocotate Freight as being somewhere between this and a Corrupt Corporate Executive
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: The other half of the time, this is how he views the president. To a fault.
• Precision F-Strike: After correctly guessing the lineup of a random trainer during Part 8 of FireRed:

• Screams Like a Little Girl: When he catches Groudon in a Nest Ball in his Pokemon Emerald LP, he breaks into a couple of these, noting that he probably lost manliness points.
• Self-Deprecation: As a Let's Player, he's pretty much required to be self-deprecating. The best example is when trying to capture Moltres in Pokémon FireRed, he goes on a long spiel about how he doesn't have anything better to do than spend nearly an hour "trying to cram a 6-foot bird into something the size of a baseball" (See the quotes page for the entire tirade). Immediately lampshaded when, after he finishes venting, he says "God, that was a really sick burn against myself."
• Self-Imposed Challenge: Caught a Slakoth in his Emerald playthrough to mix things up due to her ability to only attack every other turn. He later tweeted that he regretted doing this challenge.
• Shmuck Bait: Telling his viewers to turn the volume down whenever he's about to get really loud. Most people take it as a personal challenge.
• Shout-Out:
  • When Luigi is killed from lack of gravity, he flips around while that is happening and Chugga mentions Luigi undergoes death by breakdancing in one episode.
  • In the Pikmin playthough he messes around with the Pikmin with bomb rocks when something goes wrong he says YOU FOOL!
  • In his Mother 3 playthrough. while he's waiting for the Porky robot to finish, he shouts "MOVE FASTER POKEY!" He's made that reference multiple times since.
  • He mentioned Electrical Beast in his Pikmin Let's Play and wondered what would happen next in his Minecraft Let's Play. He also predicted that the Minecraft LP would be setting up for the Super Mario 64 Episode 60.
  • His Pokémon in his Pokémon LPs are references to different things. For example, his Venusaur (from Fire Red) is named 'Bulbapedia', and his Persian is called 'Meow Mix.' His Donphan and Dragonite (from Crystal) are called 'Darmani' and 'Volvagia' respectively.
  • When in Luigis Mansion he encounters Toad obsessing over having dropped something in the toilet and then talking about flushing it in graphic detail, he comments that Toad sounds like Nintendo Capri Sun.
  • In his Wind Waker LP, he may or may not have referenced Led Zeppelin when he discussed a stairway to heaven.
  • When the Great Fairy appears, he goes "And now, we meet TIM, HIS WIFE!"
  • He can also be heard quietly singing Nintendo Capri Sun's "Take A Dump On The Toilet" after a cut in Majora's Mask.
  • After accidentally brandishing an empty bottle, he says he's "reminded of a certain NCS quote.
  • Opening Episode 47 with a bit of a parody of how NCS would be so used to saying "Welcome back to The Legend of Zelda:..." that he would open OTHER LP's with "The Legend of Zelda"

  • In Pokemon Emerald, when confronted with an enemy called Marc, he says "Oh hai Mark!"

  • His explanation of Spaghettification in the first video of Super Luigi Galaxy, as well as his spiel during Pokémon FireRed about why an Electrode should be able to learn Surf.
  • In general, his posting the full biographies of every Pokémon, from stats to locations to appearance rates.
  • He mentions having done a lot of research in Japanese mythology so he could explain the backstory behind Okami (see quotes page).

• • He educated the viewers about how Wurmple's evolution into Silcoon/Cascoon was random in Pokémon Emerald.
• Simpleton Voice: The voice he does for Lord Crump in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
• So Bad It's Good: His opinions on the Vanillite line, and Maxie's portrayal by Marc Thompson in the Pokemon anime.
• Space Jews: (Affectionately) interpreted Business Deku Scrubs as being Jewish, and that Jewish people had Helicopter Hair that everyone wishes they had.
• Springtime for Hitler: He was so sure he was going to screw up a puzzle in Majora's Mask (episode 43, if you're interested) that he did it perfectly on his first try. Hilarity Ensues.
• Squee: Often when things really start looking up for him. Including finding a Phanpy and a Shiny Koffing, and now catching Groudon with a Nest Ball at near full health.
• Stepford Smiler: During Majora's Mask he reveals that he wasn't really as excited for Super Mario Sunshine as he let on, due to health problems.
• The Stinger: At the end of his last Majora's Mask video that concerned Stone Tower Temple, he had a stinger where he pointed out the similarities between the temple's entrance and King Harkinian.
• Stuff Blowing Up: With his Shiny Koffing/Weezing, he'd always set it to Selfdestruct or Explosion and laughs maniacally at the sight of the opposing Pokémon going down with his own.
• Stylistic Suck: His Mega Man 2 joke LP.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Intended as an April Fools' Day joke mocking the many poor-quality Mega Man 2 LPs on Youtube, it ended up being quite popular with some viewers who didn't get the joke.
• Suspiciously Specific Denial: While he's trying to enter a code (no, not that kind of code) in Majoras Mask, the video skips ahead a bit. "No, that cut wasn't because I had to go look up our code for this! It wasn't because of that! Wasn't! I swear!"
  • In Super Paper Mario, when he receives the code for the million-Rubee safe in Merlee's Mansion, he denies typing the code in on his computer calculator and states that he was simply repeating the code to himself.
• Take That:
  • Circumstances provide him with an in-context opportunity to quote Nicolas Cage in The Wicker Man; a caption describes Cage as "one of the worst actors who ever made it big".
  • In another video, he randomly tears into Michael Cera's acting ability. Ironically, he turned out to be a big fan of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
  • An... interesting variation occurs during his Wind Waker Let's Play, where he delivers a jab at his close colleague Nintendo Capri Sun for talking about his practice file so much, takes it back, and pretends it never happened.
  • There was one against The Simpsons in Episode 13 of his Super Mario Sunshine LP, when he talks about wanting to buy square watermelons in Japan like they did on The Simpsons "back in the days when the Simpsons were still good".
  • He repeatedly mentions how horrible a game he finds |Sonic Next Gen to be.
  • Multiple shots have been taken at Proton Jon's erratic updates. Including in The Runaway Guys' LPs.
  • In Episode 14 of his Majora's Mask Let's Play, an "Unregistered Hypercam 2" tag pops up in the upper left hand corner after he asks "This is a quality video, right?"
• Techno Wizard: Chuggaa is a downplayed version; he's been able to use a computer since he was three years old, and he's the one mainly editing videos for both himself and The Runaway Guys, up to and including strenuously detailed charts for individual Pokémon information and player performance. It's even more obvious in his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
• Tempting Fate: Quite frequently.
  • During the outtakes linked to above: "What the heck was I worried about, it's a freaking Rattata WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?!"
  • Upon getting 8 red coins in a difficult Super Mario Sunshine level, Chuggaaconroy jokes "Yay. Now watch me die on the way to [the shine]." And we do.

• • Another time, during the Megaleg fight (this video) in Super Luigi Galaxy.

Chugga: Honestly, if you can't get up here- (he falls off). I swear that was not on purpose.

Chugga: I cheated death yet again, I am good at cheating death today wadududu. I should not have said I am good at cheating death out loud.

• • On his first Pikmin 1 episode, he named the red leaf Steve and said he is the Butt Monkey, and we will not like him. Said pikmin 7 days later risked his life to carry back a Fiery Blowhog when Chugga said he needed more reds. To this day, he wouldn't live it down.
  • In Pikmin 2, he postponed the SubmergedCastle for the Glutton's Kitchen, saying it is easier and can get him right under the poko limit for the other cave. Care to take a guess if he survived? He lost 23 pikmin to 1 enemy.
  • The mother of all Fate Tempting came in episode 26. He had managed to make decent progress in the Submerged Castle, having only one more treasure to take back, and then, fearfully, said that he was probably on the last treasure and the thing he feared hadn't spawned yet. Cue Waterwraith. Cue Chuggaa Freak-Out.
  • Double Subverted in one episode of his Pikmin 2 LP after complaining about the rockfall traps:

Chugga: "Seriously, the designers were just being-" *rocks start falling* "-JERRRRRKS they weren't really making the game challenging they were just being jerks in some areas! I'm sorry designers but that is just my opinion please don't throw more rock traps at me!" *pause as no more rocks fall* "Okay good, they didn't. Now don't throw one at me now that I've said you didn't!" *rocks fall*

• • Used for GOOD when he said he couldn't get up a mountain while rolling in 1 try. He did just that.
  • Invoked Trope in the very first episode of Pokemon Emerald; he called the first rival battle a button-mash and he lost via a critical hit.
  • In this video (around the 8:35 mark), where he is fighting Kyogre and it has done Rest for several turns without attacking, he berates Kyogre for not attacking his Blaziken, Moegami, despite having a super effective move.Cue Sheer Cold (a 30% accuracy move) hitting.
• That Came Out Wrong: Frequently overlapping with Accidental Innuendo.
  • In the final episode of Super Mario Sunshine, Chugga is lamenting missing an opportunity to make fun of a large rubber duck that Peach had been sitting on. "Hey, what happened to her rubber duck? I wanted to do stuff with that thing. Oh, God! That sounded a lot wronger than I was trying to make it sound!"
  • From Okami Episode 9, "I don't want to let the poor kid sleep! He's what we're required to do next in the game! [[[Beat]]] That was not a very good way to word that."
  • A truly hilarious one was in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, just before battling Cortez. When Cortez tells Mario to come into his lair and be lost to darkness, Chuggaa messes up reading it and says "Come into my hole!". He then repeats it with a laugh, Beat, "OH MY GOD!! I JUST REALIZED WHAT I JUST SAID!!"
  • A non-sexual one in Luigis Mansion: "Dang, ghosts have it all! They have money coming off of their fans instead of dust! Man, I can't wait to be dead! (Beat) Think before you speak, Emile."
  • In Episode 46 of his Wind Waker LP, after a lot of failed tries in trying to get under the waterfall in the Forest Haven to meet Makar, he finally succeeds and says, "Okay, I guess I was supposed to grab it from down there even though I swear that I grabbed it from up there and lowered myself though, but anyway."
  • In Super Luigi Galaxy:

"Wow, Rosalina's got an enemy base in her bedroom!" "Luigi was gripping onto some sort of tall, long thing...uh...I have no idea how I can say that without it sounding phallic."

• • From Pokemon Emerald: "Typically, Ladies have a lot of money, though, so beat them up."
  • Also from Pokemon Emerald, while fighting Wally toward the end: "WHY WON'T YOU LET ME SCREW YOU, WALLY?! (Beat) Umm, I can explain..."
• That One Level: He hates Sea Slide Galaxy for its silver star and purple coin missions.
  • Nor is he too excited about the Seafoam Islands.
• That One Sidequest: He sees the Dog Racing Track as this. It takes him a whole ninety minutes to complete it. Of real time.
• That Russian Squat Dance: Whenever he comes across a character who seems to be doing it, he sings Dschingis Khan's "Moskau". (Well, he would if he knew the words...) He's the article's page quote, by the way.

Chuggaa: Moskau, Moskau, I-don't-know-the-frickin'-words, I-don't-know-the-frickin'-words, ah-ha-ha-ha-HA!

• This Is for Emphasis, Bitch: Because it's super-effective, bitch!
• Tier-Induced Scrappy: In-Universe. He's not afraid to badmouth certain Pokemon, items, or moves in the Pokémon games. He hits Skitty/Delcatty and Snorunt/Glalie with this hard, more or less saying there's really no reason to ever have one. Then there's his opinion on Luvdisc...
• Too Awesome to Use: He refused to use the Flower Tabs because they have the ability to fully restore FP after use in addition to increasing your FP total, justifying it in that he would use it to fully restore his FP when he would run out after battle. Problem is, he would often use FP restoration items in battle, so he wouldn't run out, meaning he would have a lot of Flower Tabs taking up space in his inventory doing nothing.
• Too Dumb to Live: His Pikmin frequently get into situations like this. This has some particularly glaring examples.
• Took a Level in Badass: Steve going from being The Load to One-Man Army.
• Troll: How he views Pikmin 2 (not the developers, but the game itself) to be.
• Verbal Tic: "Whatever". He acknowledges this and vows to try cutting down on saying it, but so far, he's been very unsuccessful.
  • "Like". He absolutely hates using it so much, but since so many people he knows use it all the time, he has real trouble stopping.
  • "For the sheer fact"
  • He has a unique way of saying "No", especially when asked in-game about something that is obvious or doesn't need to be shown.
  • "What you're gonna wanna do is..."
  • "though"
  • "Either way" or "Regardless"
  • "Very, very nice"
• Unreliable Narrator: He will often say something in an LP only for a caption he adds in post-production to pop up and contradict him (for instance if he misremembered something about the game).
  • This becomes a Running Gag in his Pokemon LPs, where Chuggaa is constantly dismissing a move or Pokemon as sub-par only for it either to dramatically win him a battle or (in an enemy's hands) lose it for him.
• Video Game Cruelty Potential / Video Game Cruelty Punishment: Tried to blow up the Goron baby with a Powder Keg, but first spent a while mulling over whether he should or not. As soon as he decided he would, it blows up on Link.
• Viewer Gender Confusion: An in-universe example. Chuggaa has no idea how to refer to the banker in Majora's Mask.
  • He also keeps accidentally refering to his female Slaking as male because it was named after his male cat, Teddy.
• Viral Marketing: Even back when he only had a few hundred thousand subscribers, half of his videos had at least a million views.
• The Voice: He seems to have an aversion to showing his face on the internet (at least, since he started LPing), only having shown his face on The Speed Gamers stream, and even then it wasn't until his second appearance (he wore a mask the first time). He was also interviewed at MAGFest 2011, the video of which is posted on YouTube.
• Voodoo Shark: Two examples in Majora's Mask:
  • First is with the banker, who always holds onto your money even when you travel back in time, somehow having deposited cash hours before you've actually supposedly deposited it. Chugga believes he hangs onto the money by going back in time with Link, using a cow ornament, because "That cow is obviously a time machine".
  • Later on in the Deku Palace, Chugga notes how you can actually see the guards' line of sight based on the lights coming from them. He chalks this up to all Deku Scrubs, aside from Deku Link, having laser vision.
• Wangst: His videos are FULL of it, done deliberately over the top and played for comedy.
  • "I know...First World Problems..."
• "Well Done, Son" Guy: Ignoring his usage of this trope in another situation, Chuggaa plays this trope for laughs whenever in-game characters he pretends to look up to give his character (often Link) approval.
• Well, This Is Not That Trope: The introduction to his Super Luigi Galaxy LP shows everything from Mario's point of view, up to and including the title screen, when a sudden Record Needle Scratch interrupts Mario's Title Drop, and the text (which had been red and blue up to that point) turns green, and Luigi makes his own Title Drop.
• What Measure Is a Non-Human?: He feels terrible for killing Fracktail after noticing that he was an organic robot.
• White Sheep: Recently revealed that he's the only member of his family who doesn't think video games are the work of the Devil and/or pointless.
• Why Did It Have to Be Floormasters?: He really doesn't like them, and for good reason.
  • The same with orange bulborbs and wollywogs.
• Wild Mass Guessing: In Episode 41 of Majora's Mask, he explains his theory on the Stone Temple based on his own research and things that other people have written about it. These speculations continue throughout the rest of the LP.
  • He also thinks that Majora could be female.
  • And his theories on Link's character development. Questionable though since this Link is arguably among his less emotional incarnations.
• Working Through the Cold: In his Pokémon Emerald LP, he ends up with a sore throat partway through, but continues recording episodes for a short while until it gets so bad he has to stop.
• Worth It: In the Cavern of Chaos in his Pikmin 2 LP, he reaches a floor covered in Dwarf Bulborbs, as well as two Gatling Groinks (which he hates, possibly as much as wollywogs). He spent a very long time trying to kill the Groinks and most of the Bulborbs, then carry the Groinks back (they come back to life if their dead body is left alone), going through a lot of trouble and a couple of freakouts. In the end, he slays pretty much every Bulborb there (which is a dang big amount) trying to find the remaining treasure, only to find it's just sitting out in the middle of a room, so he theoretically could've gotten it without all that hassle. Then, when the treasure (an apple juice can) is shown on the screen after being carried back:

Chugga: "Let me just say on the record, I love apple juice, so I'm gonna say that was Worth It."

• You Just Had to Say It: A particularly loud and hilarious one to himself after Tempting Fate and summoning the Waterwraith in Pikmin 2.
• You Keep Using That Word: In Super Paper Mario, he keeps referring to the item storage system in the stores as the "bank".
