These characters are allies to Sonic, but they usually don't have the same central role that Tails and Knuckles do.

Team Rose

A bit more loose as a group than the other teams, they have only had two constant members: Amy and Cream. Their muscle alternates between each of their appearances. In Sonic Heroes, it was Big. In Sonic Free Riders, it was Vector. In the non-game-Canon comic Sonic Universe, it was Blaze.

Amy Rose

"I know that people fight over the most trivial things. Some people may be selfish, like the professor said... but they're basically good, if they try their best and never give up on their wishes. They always have a reason to be happy; that's why you should help them out."

An energetic pink hedgehog whom Sonic rescued back in Sonic CD. Initially she was a fan of Sonic's who she desperately wanted to meet, but their meeting was soon cut short with the arrival of Dr. Eggman and his new creation, Metal Sonic. Metal kidnapped Amy and Sonic had to save her and stop Eggman's plan of using Little Planet to mess with the timeline. After Eggman's defeat, Amy fell completely in love with Sonic and has made numerous attempts to start a relationship with him, often getting mixed up in his adventures as a result, much to his chagrin.

Amy has a very sweet and understanding personality. She always tries her best to understand and see the best in people and help them in any way she can and is very protective of her friends. Underneath her sweetness lies quite the temper however, something that even Sonic isn't immune to being on the receiving end of.

Tropes exhibited by Amy Rose include:

Amy (when running into Shadow): "Oh Sonic, I thought I'd never see you again. I'm so glad you made it!"

Amy (when running into Silver): Now I've got you Sonic!"
Silver: "Hey!"
Amy: "It's about time I finally caught you again!"

Amy (when running into Sonic in his Werehog form): "Found you, Sonic! Aww, Sonic! I've been looking for you forever!"
Sonic: "H-hey, lemme go!"
Amy: "Heh heh, you're crazy if you think you can get away from Amy Rose, and..."

Cream the Rabbit

"A friend of a friend is always a friend!"

  • First appearance: Sonic Mega Collection (as artwork)
  • Debut as a character: Sonic Advance 2
  • Voiced by Sayaka Aoki (Japanese), Sarah Wulfeck (English, 2004), Rebecca Honig (English, Sonic X, 2005-2009), Michelle Ruff (English, 2010-present)

A very young rabbit who is overly polite, and whose best friend is a Chao named Cheese. She is the only character with a visible family member in the games who isn't dead: a loving, caring mother named Vanilla. And she has another Chao, named Chocola.

Tropes exhibited by Cream the Rabbit include:

Big the Cat

"Froggy! Where are you?"

Voiced by Shun Yashiro (Japanese, 1998-2001), Takashi Nagasako (Japanese, 2003-present), Jon St. John (English, 1999-2004, 2009), Oliver Wyman (English, Sonic X, 2010), Kyle Hebert (English, 2010-present)

Very large purple cat who lives in the forest with his best friend, a frog named Froggy. He primary trait is his strength that rivals that of Knuckles. His true motives are that frog, unless you are playing Chronicles...

The Chaotix

Espio: "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
Vector: "Espio, don't be silly. Besides, you know our policy: We never turn down work that pays."
Charmy: "Yeah, you know our policy!"

Debut: Knuckles Chaotix (apparently non-canon)

Canon Debut: Sonic Heroes

Vector: Voiced by Kenta Miyake (Japanese), Mark Biagi (English, 2004), Jimmy Zoppi (English, Sonic X, 2005), Dan Green (English, 2007-2010), Keith Silverstein (English, 2010-present)
Espio: Voiced by Yūki Masuda (Japanese), Bill Corkery (English, 2004), David Wills (English, 2005-2010), Troy Baker (English, 2010-present)
Charmy: Voiced by Yōko Teppōzuka (Japanese), Emily Corkery (English, 2004), Amy Birnbaum (English, 2005-2010), Colleen O'Shaughnessey (English, 2010-present))

First appeared in Knuckles Chaotix, where they team up with Knuckles to foil one of Robotnik's plans. Consists of Vector the Crocodile, a music lover with a Brooklyn accent; Espio the Chameleon, a Ninja warrior with powers of invisibility; hyperactive kid Charmy Bee; the pacifistic Mighty the Armadillo (one time member of the group); and robots Heavy and Bomb. Dropped off the radar until Sonic Heroes, where Vector, Espio, and Charmy run a detective agency (Mighty, Heavy, and Bomb are still AWOL). The Archie comics have developed the Chaotix into Knuckles's supporting Five-Man Band and added new members.

Tropes applying to Mighty don't appear here; he has his own section below.

  • Action Bomb: Bomb.
  • Adult Child: Vector, though the oldest of the team, has moments where he doesn't act quite his age. Arguing constantly with six-year-old Charmy doesn't help much.
  • Antihero Worshipper: From Charmy's point of view Shadow is the greatest animal to walk this planet.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Charmy, of course.
  • Big Eater: Vector, who dreams of having 50 five-course meals in Sonic Free Riders.
  • Black Eyes: The main three in their first appearance.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Charmy, much to Vector's annoyance.
  • Breath Weapon: Vector in Heroes.
  • Brown Eyes: Vector.
  • Bunny Ears Lawyer: The Chaotix are goofy, clumsy, and mostly inefficient as detectives, but they always get the job done.
  • Butt Monkey: Vector in particular in the Archie comics, though the whole team often act as luckless comic relief in most incarnations (particularly in Sonic X).
  • Canon Discontinuity: As far as Sega is concerned, Chaotix isn't part of the series and Sonic Heroes is the team's official debut.
  • Canon Immigrant: Most characters were brought in from elsewhere in the Sonic mythos: Charmy came from an obscure old manga, and Vector was a rejected concept for the very first Sonic.
  • Cast Herd: They are rarely ever seen apart.
    • Except in Sonic Free Riders, where Vector is part of Team Rose, but the rest of Team Chaotix is neither seen nor mentioned.
    • Espio works alongside Silver in Sonic Rivals 2. At least Vector actually has something to do with this game.
    • Vector's the only member who shows up in Sonic Chronicles, but the other two get mentioned (and even then, only as "Team Chaotix").

GUN Commander: "Vector the Crocodile and Team Chaotix have volunteered to scout for further clues. They're on the channel now."

Vector: "Yo, Sonic. It's about time you came back."

Blaze the Cat

"I have to live with my curse.... my flames... because of my powers, I have always been alone... so that's why I must do this alone... I have to do this myself!"

Debut: Sonic Rush

Voiced by Nao Takamori (Japanese), Bella Hudson (English, 2005-2010), Laura Bailey (English, 2010-present)

A fire-wielding cat from, ah, someplace else. Guardian of the Sol Emeralds.

Silver the Hedgehog

"I will protect the future!"

Voiced by Daisuke Ono (Japanese), Pete Capella (English, 2006-2010), Quinton Flynn (English, 2010-present)

A telekinetic hedgehog from either the future or Blaze's dimension.

Silver: I can't deflect lasers with my telekinesis.

Silver: (having just arrived in the present, separated from Blaze) Blaze? Blaze! *looks around for a few moments* Now I must fight for the future!

  • Inspector Javert: Hoo boy. He caused a lot of problems for Sonic in Sonic 06. Said problems included kicking Sonic's ass twice, allowing Eggman to kidnap Elise yet again. Ironically, Eggman kidnapping Elise those times actually might have turned out better in the short run, given what happened when Mephiles killed Sonic himself in front of Elise.
  • Interface Screw: His special ability in Sonic Rivals has him using his powers to scramble the opponent's controls.
  • Japanese Pronouns: "Ore".
  • Kid From the Future
  • Knight Templar: Although (mostly) kept in check by Pet the Dog moments.
  • Large Ham: "IT'S NO UUUUSE!!! TAAAKE THIISS!!"
  • Light Is Good
  • Lightning Bruiser: Only in cutscenes of Sonic 06, post game on the other hand plays this straight. He can fly (or run) as fast as Sonic while dishing out a world of pain, and he can actually take a bit of damage before going down even without his psychokinesis.
  • Mind Over Matter
  • Nice Guy: He can be one when he isn't stressing out about some future crisis.
  • Odd Friendship: He's seen high-fiving Yoshi at the Winter games.
  • Psychic Powers
  • Ship Tease: With Blaze, and to a lessor extent, Amy. The fanbase had a good time with that...
  • Squishy Wizard: His telekinetic powers make him a thread powerful enough to equal and nearly defeat Sonic and Shadow, but beyond that and he's pretty much done for. Not like that's going to bother him.
  • Super Mode: Super Silver. He only used it in his debut, but it's likely he can use it again.
  • Time Travel: Any plot where he appears will involve this, since he exists 200 years in the future.
  • Took a Level in Badass: His powers are much stronger in Sonic Generations, to the point where he can compress tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of pounds of cars and debris into a massive ball that chases Sonic.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In the Sonic Rivals games, he acts much ruder to everyone than in |his debut. He seems to have gotten better in his cameo in Sonic Colors DS.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist
  • White Furred Pretty Boy

Tikal the Echidna

"The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is power... Power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one that unifies the Chaos."

Voiced by Kaori Aso (Japanese), Elara Distler (English, 1999-2001), Karen Neill (English, Sonic X)

A mysterious girl from the distant past with a connection to Chaos.

Chip

"Want some chocolate?"

Voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi (Japanese), Tony Salerno (English)

Sonic's little flying sidekick from Sonic Unleashed. Also known as Light Gaia.

Emerl

"Show... power... OR I sh...all ob...ey... Sha...ll conqu...er a...ll.."

Debut: Sonic Battle

An ancient robot called a Gizoid that can learn to copy the traits and skills of others; Emerl is a unique model that can also absorb Chaos energies. Said to have wiped out the civilization that made him. However, he picks up better traits by hanging out with Sonic and his friends -- but has to be destroyed once his old programming kicks in.

Only appears in Sonic Battle, but has been referred to since. Sonic Advance 3 has Robotnik build his own Gizoid, Gemerl, that can merge with machines. Sonic Chronicles later explains that he and the rest of the Gizoids were made by the Nocturnus clan of echidnas.

Princess Elise III

"We give thanks for the blessed flames. May we always continue to have peace. Sun of Soleanna, guide and watch over us with your eternal light..."

Debut: |Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)

Voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (Japanese), Lacey Chabert (English).

The Princess of Soleanna who appeared as Sonic's human love interest (though the attraction is pretty much one-sided on Elise's part) in |Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

Professor Pickle

"How dare they call this culinary concoction food? Look here, do you see this sorry excuse for a sandwich? The bread should be no less than 3/4 of an inch thick. Upon it, one tablespoon of mayonnaise and a pinch of black pepper. The contents FRESH cucumber sliced THINLY if you please! Am I quite right, Tails?"

Voiced by Cho (Japanese), Dan Green (English)

A well known professor from Spagonia. His knowledge helps Sonic over the course of the story.

Marine the Raccoon

"I don't have what it takes. I don't think I can do all this adventuring on my own. But I'm not going to give up. I need to keep trying harder and harder until I can do it!"

An excitable and hyperactive young raccoon from Blaze's dimension who dreams of having epic adventures.

Blaze: Since you don't seem to understand what we're getting at, I'll just say it: You're a nuisance!

Mighty the Armadillo

Voiced by Yusuke Numata (Japanese, 1993)

One of the more obscure Sonic characters, Mighty the Armadillo is an old friend of Sonic the Hedgehog. He is similar in speed to Sonic, but is apparently stronger, hence his name. He has made two appearances: 1993's Sega Sonic the Hedgehog Arcade game, and Knuckles Chaotix in 1995. He has not appeared since, save for a nod to him via a missing poster in Sonic Generations. With that said, he has made infrequent appearances in the Archie Sonic comic series.

Ray the Flying Squirrel

Voiced by Hinako Yoshino (Japanese, 1993)

Another of Sonic's early friends. Like with Mighty, he has been missing from the franchise ever since his sole game appearance in 1993, save for a nod to him in Sonic Generations. He has made infrequent appearances in the Archie Sonic comics, fortunately.
