Super Smash Bros./WMG

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

New Characters (First/Second Party)

First/Second Party Character Speculation...

As a quick and easy way to form WMG, please put your character guesses in this format:

  • Game Series
    • Character Name
      • Required: Justification to be in this game over other characters...
      • Optional: Possible moveset, role in theorhetical storyline, alternate colors, etc...

Commence!

  • Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong, Wario Land, Wario Ware, and Paper Mario
    • Rosalina
      • Rosalina, after showing up in Mario Galaxy, has gotten a huge fanbase. Since she has borderline god-like powers and a moveset that can be taken directly from the game, it's natural to see The High Queen of Nintendo in the game. At the very least, a Palette Swap for Peach seems inevitable.
        • I could see some potential use of the touch screen or motion controls by using it to shoot Star Bits and/or Lumas a la Capt. Olimar and his Pikmin.
    • Paper Mario
      • So far, Mario doesn't have any moves from the Paper Mario universe, so having Paper Mario will have some fresh (non clone) moves and another 2D character.
    • Birdo
      • Birdo has been around longer than many of the other characters in Smash Bros, including Yoshi and Wario. She's been a recurring boss character and friend for years, and it would be nice to have another...female character.
    • Captain Syrup
      • Wario's number-one rival that's not Mario (number-two rival?). While she hasn't been in many games, she always ends up complementing Wario in many ways, making her a nice choice if the Wario series only gets one more character.
    • Wario Ware:Nine Volt
      • For being a Nintendo fanatic, his moves could be based off of Nintendo's merchandise(including their non video game products) and his microgames
      • 9-volt could play a major part in the story. If he crosses Mario or Luigi or both, (This gamer wants it Nintendo if your reading this) it could lead to interesting dialogue and could help with escape routes with the shortcuts he knows, only amazing the Mario Bros., and a Heartwarming moment could be in order if he, for example, sees an incoming projectile (like the dark gun which turns people into statues), he could do a Taking the Bullet, only to be healed, Mario or Luigi could sign his helmet. It seems pretty inedible for 9-volt to be in the game.
    • Wario Ware: Mona
      • For being the cover girl of the series after Wario himself, she could have many moves inspired from their mini games.
    • Wario Ware: Kat and Ana
      • Already assist trophies in Brawl, they seem as likely to get in as anything Wario Ware. They are not accurate ninjas but still closer to proper ninjas than Sheik so that could be some added appeal if Syrup makes it in. Against them is that Smash has a surplus of sword users and there are still swordsmen from Nintendo games not represented in the series, but they would only need to use Katana's for a few moves.
    • Geno
      • While he would have copyright issues around him, Geno was one of the most requested characters for Brawl, and judging by some Beta content, he almost made it in. He has a lot of interesting attacks, so that helps.
    • Elder Princess Shroob
      • Just for being a big ugly Mighty Glacier most people would not expect. Fawful has been in more games and is more likely to get in, but Shroob was a final boss, could have interesting moves, and there are no playable fungi yet.
    • Dixie Kong, King K. Rool, or another Donkey Kong Boss
      • If people want another female character, Dixie seems like a good enough choice, and she was a protagonist of two Donkey Kong games. King K. Rool is the boss who shows up the most.
      • I'd prefer King K. Rool, on the grounds that Mario, Zelda, and Kirby all have the series' main antagonists as playable characters. He's got potential for an interesting moveset since his initial appearance (throwing his crown, stomp attack), his blunderbuss from DKC 2 could be put to interesting uses, and his Final Smash could be dropping cannonballs all over the stage like he did in the first Donkey Kong Country. A Donkey Kong Country Returns sequel featuring Kremlings would probably ensure his position in the next Smash Bros.
        • You didn't mention his stint as Baron K. Roolensten, from which he could at least derive a solid Up+B move.
    • Baby Mario and Luigi
      • They (or at least Baby Mario) have been in several multiplayer Mario games already, so why not?
      • They would operate in a manner similar to the Ice Climbers, only with a completely different moveset so as not to be labeled as clones.
      • Alternatively, the Mario Bros. based off of Mario & Luigi. There are plenty of moves that could work. Their B could be the hammer, down-B could be the drill, up-B could be the super spin (or whatever its name was) side-B could be... Koopa Shell, perhaps? Hell, their Final Smash could be one of the special moves. There are plenty that would work quite well. Mighty Meteor, Falling Star, Magic Window, Super Bouncer, Snack Basket, Jump Helmet, they would all work really well.
    • Daisy
      • She has appeared in practically every Mario spinoff since Mario Kart 64 and one main game. She is somewhat more popular than Waluigi.
    • Bowser Jr.
      • Call him a Scrappy if you wish, but there's no denying that Bowser Jr. has been a major shaping force in the Mario series ever since his debut. He was all but the main antagonist in Super Mario Sunshine and both New Super Mario Bros. titles, and played an important role as Bowser's second-in-command in the Galaxy titles. Perhaps more importantly, the use of his magical paintbrush from Sunshine could make Bowser Jr. into a very unique and entertaining character to play as.
  • Pokémon
    • Zoroark
      • Basically the fifth-gen counterpart of Lucario, Game Freak has been heavily promoting him/her. (S)he was even the first Black and White Pokémon to be revealed.
    • Scizor
      • It is not one of the original 151, who dominate the player character spots. Scizor is the most popular Pokemon in competitive battles. Its disproportional wings mean it cannot fly very far but it can shoot ahead like a bullet. Scizor would fit in Super Smash Bros very well.
        • Yes, they sure set Scizor up to be a new mascot for the series.
    • Victini
      • An alternative to Zoroark in terms of a Fifth Generation representative. Victini is popular, has a unique combination that could be put to creative use, and is roughly equal to Zoroark in terms of promotion.
    • Hilbert or Hilda, A.k.a. The Pokémon Trainers from Black and White.
      • I just get a feeling that one of the two will replace Pokémon Trainer Red, As for the Pokémon: Oshawott, Servine, and Emboar.
      • Or a different lineup of the three Unova starters in different stages.
      • Bonus points if Hilbert averts Cross-Dressing Voices!
    • Reshiram and Zekrom
      • Both of them would have to be scaled down somewhat (though it isn't as bad as one might think, seeing as they're only about 9–10 feet tall rather than 11-20 like most other legendaries). Seeing the huge gap in popularity between Reshiram/Zekrom and other 5th gen candidates like Zoroark and Victini, however,[1] this could be a possibility. Maybe one dragon could be exclusive to the 3DS version and the other one exclusive to the Wii U version. Alternatively...
    • N Harmonia
      • He'd be a new unlockable Pokémon Trainer type character, and could be a candidate considering his surprising popularity and importance (he even got his own full art card in the TCG). For sure he'd have Zoroark, Reshiram, and Zekrom in some form. Either they'd be his three main Pokémon and his Final Smash would be his own version of Triple Finish (with Night Daze, Blue Flare, and Bolt Strike), or summoning Reshiram/Zekrom would be his Final Smash and the playable Pokémon would be Zoroark and two others.[2]
    • Tyranitar
      • Another Pokemon not from the original 151 who has remained a favorite choice since its introduction. Besides Dishing Out Dirt, it is another big and strong glacier type and could use shadow moves from the Orre games.
    • Metagross
      • For many of the same reasons as Tyranitar, being consistently popular since its introduction, being a big strong glacier, having an interesting variety of moves, and not being from the first installment. Another quadruped wouldn't hurt either, it would work because it is psychic like Mewtwo.
    • Primal Dialga, but only as a boss in Story Mode, though.
    • Lucas and/or Dawn
      • As unlikely it is for the iconic Red getting replaced is, they would be the best choice if he was. Torterra, Infernape, Empoleon are the only trio who could convincingly pull the Might-Speed-Balance triangle in their final forms. All three would wear ring targets.
    • Corsola
      • As nonnotable as Corsola is, it could be a very quirky and effective Stone Wall.
    • Team Rocket Grunt
      • There hasn't yet been a villainous Pokémon, unless you count Mewtwo (he seems to be counted amongst the villainous characters within Melee, and was indeed briefly a villain in the Pokémon anime, but it still seems like a bit of a stretch).
      • His or her team could consist of Arbok, Weezing, and Meowth. His/Her red and blue team palettes could be based on Teams Magma and Aqua.
  • The Legend of Zelda
    • Vaati
      • Vaati is the second-most recurring villain in the Zelda series. And since Smash Bros really needs more villainous characters...
    • Ghirahim
      • He's the main villain of Skyward Sword, and seems to be very popular. He could potentially have a very interesting moveset centered around his projectiles, sword, and teleporting.
    • Majora's Mask
      • Either worn by someone or by itself. It was the driving force of a plot, a final boss, the title of a game, and has many different options for representation.
        • How about having Skull Kid wear it and its final smash having the moon crash into the stage?
    • Majora's Mask Link
      • He could use the Gilded sword and masks as transformations for his down B. These would act sort of like Pokémon Trainer, giving him a different moveset. His final smash would be Fierce Deity Link.
      • They could just stick to his three regular Masked forms with giant or fierce deity being a final smash, especially if Toon Link doesn't get replaced.
    • Toon Zelda
      • Based off of her appearance in The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, she can be her ghostly self that is a Luigification of the adult Zelda, or she could appear in Phantom armor and have a moveset based off the various types of Phantoms. Toon Zelda was considered for Brawl, and Spirit Tracks is one of the princess's most active roles, so it'd make sense that if she were included, there'd be at least some basis from that.
    • Maybe she could appear as Tetra but have the ability to change into Toon Zelda.
    • Groose
      • Not nearly as likely as Ghirahim, but he's proved to be so popular with fans that he's likely to show up in some fashion, even if not playable.
    • Skyward Sword Link
      • An alternate costume to Twilight Princess Link, his moves will be identical in play, but the Sword Lines, explosions, and sound effects will be more cartoony so as to fit the stages that use cel shading. Toon Link will be retired to make way for Zelda characters with different moves and swordsmen from other Nintendo games.
      • I always figured that Skyward Sword Link would be the basis of the new adult Link, replacing Twilight Princess Link. Toon Link should probably stay, though, as he's been in two games (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks) since Twilight Princess.
      • Nintendo's library has no shortage of kid characters or swordsmen, mini Link's no more essential than mini Pikachu.
  • Kid Icarus
    • Orcos
      • Whether or not it's referenced in Uprising, the existence of a Myth and Monsters sticker is proof Sakurai knows about Kid Icarus's gameboy sequel. One could argue Orcos's attacks may not be different enough from each other to be playable, but seeing how Sora developed a Kid Icarus game and Pit's new moves and appearance were in that game, Sakurai could easily do the same for Orcos.
    • Eggplant Wizard
      • He will be The Dragon under Mother Brain in the 4th Super Smash Bros. game.
    • Palutena
      • Would definitely help on the gender ration, and I believe she's popular enough. Plus she showed some good powers when made to fight in Uprising.
    • Medusa
      • Is hardly ever the first choice, but as of Uprising she has the distinction of being Pit's most persistent nemesis and (now) has more versatile move potential than Orcos.
  • Kirby
    • Kirby's Final Smash in the next game will be the Ultra Sword.
    • Yarn Kirby
      • Yarn Kirby already has a lot of moves and his final smash can be his transformation to a tank from Epic Yarn.
    • Prince Fluff
      • For the same reasons as Yarn Kirby, especially when one considers the game was planned to be about him before the developer got the idea to add Kirby.
    • Bandana Dee
      • He's now been a playable character in Kirby's Return to Dream Land alongside already playable Kirby, Meta Knight, and Dedede. He'll be wielding his spear, with a spear throw as a neutral-B and that helicopter spear twirl as his up-B.
    • Galacta Knight
  • Metroid
    • Metroid Prime Hunters: Sylux, Weavel, etc.
      • Any hunter from the Hunters DS game could work, but Sylux ties for the most overused by players and is stated to dislike Samus. Weavel is a space pirate, Samus's enemy by default, and can use weapons from other space pirates to pad his move set.
    • Metroid Prime
      • It has its name on a trilogy of games and has numerous different moves and forms that would work in a fighting game
      • If it does appear, it will probably show up as Dark Samus.
    • Mother Brain
      • Mother Brain will be the Big Bad of the 4th Super Smash Bros. game.
  • Fire Emblem
    • Micaiah
      • From Radiant Dawn; it would be cool to have a magic user from Fire Emblem. Plus, Ike was from Path of Radiance. She could replace (or not) Ike himself. Or better yet...
    • Sothe
    • Ashera
      • Against her is that Smash Bros already has a similarly dressed magic user in the form of Zelda and Ashera's attacks would have to be severely toned down. For her is that she has many different attacks, so her moveset wouldn't take much padding, many characters (like Ike) are already toned down, and she'd be the first antagonist from the Fire Emblem series to be playable.
    • The Black Knight
      • Against him is that Ike is already a slowish character that handles his sword in a similar way and Ike and Marth would need a new entrance if he used warp powder for one of his moves. For him is that he's a popular villain from the most recent Fire Emblem game.
    • Krom
    • Sigurd
      • He was originally planned for Melee before Marth replaced him. Marth's moves and taunts are clearly his; Brawl changed shield breaker to look more like Marth's thrust and added Marth's critical hit, but he's still mostly Sigurd painted over. Now that one of Marth's games has been released in English, Nintendo might as well admit Smash Bros Marth was Sigurd in disguise.
    • Lucina
      • Perhaps even as a replacement for Marth.
  • Pikmin
  • F-Zero
    • Pico
      • Alien turtle hit man who wields pistols Guns Akimbo and was in the first game, why not? He also has an assault rifle.
    • Deathborn
      • The biggest bad the series has that could still be reasonably playable; he bosses Black Shadow around.
    • Zoda
      • Has led multiple invasion attempts on Earth, is something of a standout villain that rules another planet, and is implied to be a some kind of scientist.
    • Don Genie
      • He is an arms dealer. That's good enough by itself.
  • Star Fox
    • Krystal
      • With her staff, and the move-set from Star Fox Adventures, she would be more unique as a fighter than most other potential Star Fox characters.
      • This would help even out the gender ratio as well. I'd personally have preferred her in Brawl over Wolf.
        • Seconded.
    • There are other series with staff users less represented than Star Fox and plenty of females. No, there is only one recognizable Star Fox character left who can bring something unique to Smash Bros, only one has the brains, our favorite uncle Andross!
  • MOTHER
    • Ninten
      • Well, he is from Mother Zero, the same game series as Ness and Lucas.
  • Other
    • Golden Sun
      • Isaac: is the main character of the first game. His adept powers, dijini attacks, summons, class changing, items, and weapon unleashes would help him stand out from the other swordsmen. Dishing Out Dirt is something no playable fighter in Smash currently specializes in and all the main characters of Golden Sun (so far) do in their default class. Already in as an assist.
      • Felix: is the main character of the second game and can turn into sand, something Isaac cannot do.
      • Matthew: Same reason for Isaac, adept powers, dijini attacks, summons, class changing, items, weapons, and what Not.
      • Or he can replace Isaac's Assist Trophy.
    • Sin and Punishment
      • Saki: His international debut was practically in Smash Bros. Of the first game's player characters, he's the only one who transforms or displays other weird powers.
      • Achi': She's the only one to play an active role in both games. It would be hard to give her a faithful move set that did not give away the plot, but Sin and Punishments selling point is being a frantic shooter, so knowing the plot wouldn't spoil that and Achi could fill move slots easily.
      • Isa: He's not as quite versatile as Achi but has enough move set potential, more than Saki has. Furthermore, he was the real protagonist of the second game, the other kid was just along for the ride.
    • StarTropics, Mike Jones, Zoda
      • Mike, the hero, would come first obviously, and then his villain maybe, after him. Mike has many weapons to use and a psychic shock wave. Zoda's final clone has enough unique moves to bring to the Smash Bros. series, but could also adopt some elements of Mewtwo's style of game play so Pokémon would stop being made to fit it.
    • Eternal Darkness, Alexandra Roivas or Pious Augustus
      • Probably too similar to have both of them, but they managed to make Lucas and Ness different enough, both isn't impossible. Being from Metal Gear Solid, Snake opened up the possibility for M rated franchises. Alex has an enchanted shotgun, pistol, and throwing gladius. Pious is a Large Ham and has a bone staff.
    • Punch-Out!! Little Mack
      • Punch Out is a long running series and considered a classic. Little Mack would probably be enough by himself but another reoccurring boxer like Mr. Sandman or Bald Bull might not hurt... Mike Tyson for nostalgia?
      • Even if Giga Mack showed up, there are some reoccurring boxers like Great Tiger or King Hippo that might be different enough to squeeze in.
      • Doc Luis. He invented the Star Punch.
      • King Hippo. He will be a member of The Remnant organization "Neo-Subspace Army" led by Mother Brain in the 4th Super Smash Bros. game.
    • Custom Robo
      • Ray for being the first of the mascot robots, Ray 01 for being the most popular of the mascot robots and the first to make it overseas, or Ray MK III for being the latest one. They all sport bombs, guns, and satellite weapons not used by anyone else so far and would come with the series's wacky stages.
    • Nintendo Wars
      • You could have a commanding officer with moves based around their supports (Andy with blow torches and nail guns because he repairs stuff, for example) or even a generic grunt (using Battalion Wars weapons maybe) or mix the two somehow. All sorts of stage and final smash possibilities too.
      • Kaiser Vlad, any Solar empress or solar grunt could be a Qa-Len's staff bearer too if Battalion Wars didn't have enough weapons already.
    • Excite
      • Specifically from the bot racing game. They would be highly unorthodox between the transforming, dart throwing, poker playing, and butterfly catching already, but a large character with a running speed comparable to Sonic the Hedgehog would be interesting. Frog, Bat, and Beetle are the defaults, so likely one of them. Ivysaur has opened the door for non bipeds and non humanoids.
    • Cubivore
      • No references to the game in Brawl, but Alpha has a trophy in Melee. The player character would be the best choice as Chicky from the bird run after becoming the killer cubivore. He could use the most powerful mutations for his attacks and use the boss's specials too, as he could be handwaved as being able to use them after taking the final boss's title.
    • Wii Games, Mii
      • They can be Custom Characters with some of their own abilities, like Swordplay (for close-range), Archery (for long-range,) and using Jetpack (for its Up move).
      • If not, they can replace the Fighting Alloy Team. (And be Called Fighting Mii Team)
    • Arcana, Rooks
      • He's the main character of the game. Not likely to be a first choice, as his moves may be too similar to the more recent and more successful Golden Sun characters and he's another swordsman. His moves are not identical, though, and his greater focus on cards could have him play differently enough to be the Golden Sun character's old school counterpart. If nothing else, Rimsala has a wicked enough design to justify being a boss.
    • Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Colonel Scott O'Connor
      • Everyone's forgot about it, but his game did end on a sequel hook. No one else in Smash Bros so far attacks with their hair, and if they play up the bizarre parts of him enough, maybe he could get a virtual console sequel?
    • Joy Mech Fight, Sukapon
      • It was a fighting game on the Famicom, not released outside of Japan, but Sukapon had fairly strong demand to be in Brawl in Japan. Sora said at the time they couldn't figure out how to do a Floating Limbs character. Since they've had plenty of time since to think about it, Sukapon could appear in a future title.
    • The Legendary Starfy
      • While it is true Sakurai does not like the series, he isn't the only developer. Starfy has already appeared as an assist trophy, another person could develop his moves.
    • Pro Wrestling
      • A fighting game that hasn't had any references in Super Smash Bros but lines from it are quoted in other Nintendo games. Great Puma, Giant Panther, Amazon, is there a reason anyone from that game couldn't work?
    • Geist
      • Tabuu looks too much like a Geist ghost, either it was planned from the start as some kind of Foreshadowing or someone at Nintendo will notice the similarities and that will put thoughts in people's heads. At the very least, John Raimi's ghost would be an interesting assist, but he might have enough in human form to be a playable fighter.
    • Xenoblade Chronicles
      • If operation rainfall puts its money where its mouth is, main character Shulk may become playable to further cash in on it. His abilities are better for an assist trophy but he could be playable with some creativity. There are lots of swordsmen to compete with but unless you believe All Swords Are the Same his might be different enough, he'd be able to swing two extendable Laser Blades after grabbing a beam sword.
      • Or just skip the main character and choose someone who does have abilities with obvious use in a fighting game, Dunban. He can replace Ike.
    • Balloon Fighter
      • Alice from Balloon Kid, utilizing her balloons to give her extra recovery.
    • Panel de Pon
      • Either Lip or Furil, because we haven't had enough PDP around lately (or at all, if you're American or European). She'd fit the nostalgia theme of the game well considering the series has been around for seventeen years, at least. Since the Lip's Stick is already an item, flowers, block-dropping, and maybe panels would be incorporated into her attacks.
      • Lip's stick could easy be replaced by another bludgeon item, one with a similar effect or something completely new yet equally wacky (Another Panel De Pon tool even).
      • This is true, though you have to consider that Kirby has a similar case with the Star Rod.
    • Space Demon
      • Both it and Space Firebird were developed by Nintendo R&D 1 and between the two games the Space Demon might have enough moves to work with. True, he might be a little on the large side but unlike Ridley, it doesn't have a Samus to be in proportion with so it could be scaled down like Olimar was scaled up.(or failing playable character, a surprise boss)

The next Smash Bros. Game will have Zoroark as a playable character

Melee had Mewtwo as a playable character, the only movie featured Pokemon that was humanoid enough to be included. Brawl comes around, Lucario's in, he was the last humaniod Pokemon character to be featured in a movie at that point (Lugia, Entei, Latios and Latias, and Jirachi are all too far from humanoid and Deoxys was before Lucario). Zoroark is the current Pokemon in this role, it's humanoid enough to fit into the game. Unless, before hand, another one replaces it, I see it being a playable character in the next game, or at least a Poké Ball summon.

  • However, it'd be best if all three were playable in some form.
    • If this happens, it would probably rank right up there on the Fridge Brilliance o-meter. Remember all of that speculation about a Dark/Psychic/Fighting starter trio? And, what with the "super effective" bonus knockback for Charizard, Ivysaur, and Squirtle already in play (to water, fire, and grass damage, respectively (and obviously)) it's not hard to think that they would form an interesting mechanic for team play/etc.

9-volt will be in Super Smash Bros Stifle (Or SSB4)

  • Why not? He isn't forgotten, as shown as his stickers in the game, and with the Kat and Ana assist trophy, it was proof that Wario Ware isn't forgotten. And who is the most liked Warioware character minus Wario? 9-volt. Nintendo, realizing he is the okatu of their franchise, will put him in to attract other gamers to the Warioware franchise, causing them to play 9-volt's games, and realizing how awesome old school games were by searching 9-volts micro-games, they will revive the old school genre, causing a heroic Xanatos Roulette for Nintendo, making them do sequels to old school games, and eventually, take over the gaming market even MORE!
    • What would be awesome is if all of his attacks were based on Nintendo products. He'd have the zapper, the Wii Nunchuck, and even...the Power Glove.

Magnus Will be in SSB4.

I could see him being a Ike clone.

The Pokemon Trainer will be replaced with one of the player characters (probably the male) from Gen5 for marketing purposes. He or she will use that Gen's starters.

For the starters, my guess is Tepig, Dewott, and Serperior.

  • Marketing purposes? You do realize with a 2-3 dev cycle starting in October this year, Gen 5 is on the way out when this is released?
    • I didn't realize that. I still think they will probably replace him, with whatever male trainer is current at the time they program the characters in. If Gen6 is not out by that time then we might even get another example of Marth Debuted in Smash Bros.

Twinbellows will be a boss in SSB4.

Kalas will join the... whatever it is this time.

The ownership of BK isn't clear from a quick check (though Monolith's website shows very BK 3 images), but Nintendo was very heavily involved, and with Monolith being one of the major contribtors to Brawl and consider BK very important to them. Plus he could have an intresting role in any story modes, either recognizing the face behind Master/Crazy Hand (see up) or the whole is actually The Mole despite being the main character.

Muddy Mole.

Shigeru Miyamoto already begged Sakurai to put him into Brawl, but he couldn't do it for the time being. Since Hideo Kojima did the same for Snake in Melee, Muddy has a chance in the next game(s).

Ghirahim will be playable.

He could have the ability to grab people's swords and other blunt weapons.

Mona from Wario Ware will be playable.

If 9-volt can be playable, Mona can too! In fact, I'll even add a movelist:

  • B: Mona rocks on her guitar, damaging anybody nearby.
  • </>+B: Mona throws a pizza box, her standard projectile.
  • ^+B: Mona activates a jetpack for a second, similar to Pit's flying but it doesn't last as long.
  • v+B: Mona does an instant slide kick, going at a mid-range distance.

Miis will be playable in SSB4!

You select a Mii, set its moveset with existing moves within the game, and there you go! IT WOULD BE FREAKIN AWESOME!

There will be a new playable character introduced in SSB 4 that is a completely original character (much like how Ingrid was in Capcom Fighting Evolution)

His role in the game's story mode is that he was the former ruler of the Smash Bros. Universe, but was overthrown by the game's villain. He later gets the rest of the characters to help him reclaim his rightful place as ruler of the Smash Bros. Universe (probably by a Xanatos Gambit). The Master Hand and Crazy hand are his right- and left-hand men.

He embodies the power of darkness in his attacks.

Moveset:

Special Moves:

  • B: Forms a ball of dark energy in his hand. Pressing B again thrusts his arm out and fires it.
  • F+B: Dashes forward and delivers a strong punch engulfed in darkness.
  • U+B: Does a powerful leap straight up into the air while engulfed in darkness, which damages anyone who gets in the way.
  • D+B: A charge attack similar to Ike's B move in Brawl.

Throws:

  • Attack: Jabs his knee into the opponent's gut.
  • Forward: Choke-slams the opponent.
  • Back: Suplexes the opponent.
  • Up: Delivers a blow to the opponent's gut, uppercutting them into the air.
  • Down: Throws the opponent to the floor and elbow drops them.

Taunts:

  • Ruffles up his hair and either scoffs or grunts.
  • Stretches his arms as though he's sleepy and says, "You're boring the crap outta me." or "Get serious."
  • Does a stationary backflip then thrusts his fist into the air with a yell.
  • Holds his hand out in front of him while forming a ball of dark energy in it. He then clenches his fist and dispels the energy.

Final Smash:

  • Yells out, "Let's get serious!" and engulfs himself in dark energy. When it dispels, he is seen wearing a different outfit (Which is his royal outfit. It's also seen at the end of the story mode). Works the same way as Wario and Bowser's Final Smash in Brawl.

(PS. Should I include a physical description of him?)

A Primid will be a playable character.

Something of a meta extension to the previous WMG, if there is a Smash Bros exclusive character, it will be a Primid and his different colorations will be different colors/shapes of his eyes.

  • Problem is, just changing the eyes won't make it easy to tell two different Primids apart in-game.

The Black Knight will be playable.

Of the series' most recent villains (not including remakes), he is fairly popular and would fit the Smash Bros gameplay well (unlike, say, Ashera or Ashnard). His rivalry with Ike is also a plus. His moveset can incorporate Eclipse (probably similar to Marth's Dancing Blade), and his Up-Special could use his warp powder (similar to Zelda/Sheik). He would also likely have Counter, like the other Fire Emblem characters. His Final Smash could be some improved form of Eclipse, like how Ike has Great Aether. Other than basic team color changes, palette swaps could include his Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn appearance (depending on which one is his default appearance) and a palette based on Zelgius's Begnion armor. Admittedly, though, his last appearance in the series was a while ago...

There will be a character who is a Ditto Fighter.

And each time he's KO'd, he changes his fighting style.

New Characters (Third Party)

Lara Croft will guest star

I don't know what her moves would be, but her role in the story mode would be cool and her partner in in the story will be Kirby. Here's an idea for the way they meet: Kirby, who has been looking for his lost warp star because he lost it earlier in the story, will be captured, then later an alarm goes off beacause Lara has broken in. She is looking for an artifact, and Kirby, who has broken out, is found by a guard, who aims at him, but Lara pulls a Click. "Hello." and saves him. They escape, and later Kirby will return the favor.

Simon Belmont

Castlevania is popular and Simon was in the NES Castlevania game - arguably the most iconic of the series.

If Solid Snake is any indication...

We might be lucky to get another unexpected third party character in the next Smash Bros. Personally, my vote is for Geese Howard, Emil Castagnier, and Dante. Well, hey, they let Snake in, and Metal Gear isn't exactly family friendly.

Travis Touchdown will appear in the next Smash Bros. game

Travis' fighting style makes sense (somewhat) with the Smash Bros. universe, since the combination of beam katanas and professional wrestling moves are pretty Crazy Awesome already. He could probably take Snake's place if does appear, since it's overkill to have two Rated R game characters in a supposedly "child-friendly" environment. Here are some ideas for his appearance:

  • As stated above, Travis would utilize his beam katana attacks for his main fighting style, preferably using the Blood Berry or Tsubaki Mk. III for fighting. He could use his wrestling moves for his throws, although I believe that Nintendo's going to have to implement a system that would allow a lot of his throws to be included. His death blows could be used as Smash Attacks. Personally, I would want to make sure that Travis' fighting style still retains its brutality, as opposed to the tame Nintendo cast.
  • He could use his Charged Attack and his step-in slice for his standard and side special. The Dark Step technique would be his down special while for his up special.... I'm sure Suda51 has something in mind for that.
  • Dark Side mode could be used as his Final Smash. The roulette can be used to determine a different attack (from slowing down time and increasing damage, to the sacred Anarchy in the Galaxy).

Alternatively, Ezio Auditore or Raiden will replace Snake.

Both Ezio and Snake possess a lot of weapons and gadgets at their disposal. Plus, both Konami and Ubisoft are close with each other (just look at the various Assassins Creed crossovers), Kojima could recommend Ezio as a new character. On the other hand, Raiden in Revengeance seems to fit the fantasy setting of Smash Bros. as well.

Square Enix wants Sora from Kingdom Hearts to be in the next Super Smash Bros.

First: They are developing KH parts for the Nintendo systems, even though most of the KH fans are Sony Fanboys, therefore it would not make much sense to develop the games for Nintendo systems otherwise. Second, just look at Sora's fighting style in KH 2! He fights just like a Super Smash Bros character, and has loads and loads of additional costumes to use (Plus his Final Form would make an awesome Final Smash. It even has "Final" in the name!) He has enough abilities and magic to pick from for his moveset and his voice samples would go great in Brawl. Also, his coliseum-tournament-victory poses look a lot like Brawl victory poses. No doubt that Square Enix wanted to make him as Brawl compatible as possible. And if even Solid Snake made it in the game with a lot of begging...

  • I'd play that game! But why not add in some of his abilities from KH1, or coded?
  • Remember that Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2006, well before Brawl.
    • But Brawl was announced in 2005.
  • Sora had victory poses back in Kingdom Hearts I.

One of the third party characters in SSB4 will be a Lego Mini-figure, complete with Lego City stage.

Nintendo made an awfully big deal about securing that exclusive, it would make sense to tie it in to the other game they've announced.

Project Sora (SSB's developer) and Nintendo will push for as many third party characters as possible.

As said above, Super Smash Bros. generates publicity for various games on the console. Since Nintendo, learning from their past mistakes from the N64 to the Wii, is looking to court as much third party support as possible, they will try to get as much third party support as they can so that their games will sell well and the Wii U will be established as a strong contender with third parties.

Phoenix Wright will be in the fourth game...

...where he will be voiced by Matthew Taranto.

I literally cannot think of even one reason why this wouldn't be awesome as hell.

SSB4 will reveal the person behind the hands...

It turns out, it's you! Using the picture it asked you to take for your profile. Both systems do have a camera...

  • If this happens, Ness, Wario (If he can be bothered to remember an insignificant employee like that), Hector/Eliwood/Lyn (if present), and Kalas (who would have some reaction to a severe case of role reversal) would be the ones to recognize the face.

Neku

Snake will not return in the next game and will bereplaced by another 3rd party character.

My guess either Pac-Man or Mega Man

    • Are you kidding me? Snake's one of the most popular characters, and he's getting a game on 3DS (sort of). He's practically a shoe-in. And so far, they've only ditched clones (except for Mewtwo, but that was probably for marketing reasons).

Quote will be playable in SSB4/Strife/Struggle/Whatever

One of the most popular Wii Ware and D Si Ware titles, and there's the remake on the DS soon! Plus it avoids the complications of dealing with Capcom to negotiate to use Mega Man, as they're fairly similar. I imagine most of his attacks could be with the Blade and his specials could be various guns (Neutral is Polar Star, Side is Fireball, Up is Machine Gun, and Down is something else). Curly could either be an assist trophy or a reskin of him. Because of this he would probably be completely mute, so as to avoid recording voices twice.

Non video game characters will appear in SSB 4

Likely candidates include Naruto, SpongeBob SquarePants, Darth Vader, Batman, and Spider-Man.

Nightmare may be playable in the next SSB.

After all, Link appeared in Soul Calibur II. It'd be a hell of a lot cooler than Pac-Man as a Namco rep, that's for sure.

Rouge will be the last unlockable in Super Smash Bros 4.

She was the most major Sonic character without a trophy in Brawl. Silver had an appearance on the Sonic stage, and goddamn 'JET' of all people had a trophy. Rouge only had a sticker. Which one has been more important to the series overall? It's Rouge.

Donald Duck will be in SSB4

The developers said they were interested in having Capcom characters, and Capcom was responsible for a lot of Disney's games! Of course, Donald's Final Smash would be an epic tantrum!

Mega Man

  • And Dr. Wily.

Amaterasu will be in the next SSB game.

She would be an interesting character to play due to her diverse range of abilities and weapons. Amaterasu has already been made into a fighting game character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, so the developers could use that as another basis for her moveset. Okami is a highly praised Capcom game that had a sequel released recently, and there's talk that Sakurai may team up with Capcom for SSB4 [dead link], so there's a decent possibility that this could happen.

Pete from Harvest Moon will appear either as a trophy, a character, or an assist

Harvest Moon is a somewhat popular third party series which almost exclusively appears on Nintendo consoles. Pete could certainly have several moves up his sleeve - he's a farmer after all so he has a bunch of tools and vegetables. If no Harvest Moon characters pop up as playables I at least expect a trophy.

Skylanders Spyro

Activision wants to milk games as much as possible, so it would be a good idea.

Bomberman

Saturn Bomberman aside, Bomberman's biggest and best games have always been on Nintendo systems, and he's made appearances on every Nintendo console and handheld to date. His cartoony explosives would make a good contrast with Snake's realistic ones (and speaking of Snake, it would be funny to have the two recognize each other from the Dream Mix Tournament. In the story mode, Bomberman could be chasing after Wario as part of an overly-long Call Back gag. He could also draw upon his Charaboms (mainly Pommy) and elemental bombs to compose his moveset, with the Bomber Gear from Bomberman Hero filling in the loose slots. Overall, Bomberman strongly deserves a spot on the roster, much moreso than any other third-party character besides Mega Man.

Final Fantasy characters will be included in SSB 4

The first six Final Fantasy games were released on the NES and SNES, with remakes on the Game Boy Advanced and the DS. In addition, several side games were released on the DS as well.

X and Zero will appear in SSB 4

Sure, Sakurai may have a reputation as a Trolling Creator, but he did say he wanted to see Capcom characters appear. Given how X never got put in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Sakurai'd probably like to throw his fans a bone and include him AND Zero.

Ryu and Ken will appear.

  • Also, maybe Chun-Li and Dan.

Darkstalkers won't be dead.

New Stages

Patch Land from Kirby's Epic Yarn will be one of the new stages.

You can interact with and unravel parts of the environment. Plus, who wouldn't want to fight on an arena that feels like pants?

Any level from Donkey Kong Country Returns

They were all great and memorable stages. Personally I'd root for Sunset Shore or Foggy Fumes and give everyone the silhouette effect (which could come in handy in team battles), but anything would do, really.

Two Words, Wuhu Island.

Let's face it, this island was the setting of Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort, and Pilotwings Resort. And now it has two tracks (and a Battle Stage) in Mario Kart 7.

It seems likely that the island will be in the 4th Games. It can work the same as Delfino Plaza, Only this is not just the towns, but it can start at Wuhu Town, then Windmill Park, Lakeside Castle, even the The Mysterious Ruins can be the part of the stage.

Groznyj Grad from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

MGS 3 is getting a rerelease on the 3DS, so Nintendo fans will have a chance to be familiar with that area long before SSB 4 comes out.

Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes.

Sega seems to be trying to make this the modern Green Hill Zone, seeing as it features in Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and Sonic Generations.

The Sealed Grounds from The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

It's a large area with numerous platforms around the edges as well as a temple. It's also highly dynamic with the possibility of several hazards. Possible sequence of events:

  • The Imprisoned breaks loose and stomps around the level in a fashion similar to the Ultimate Chimera in New Pork City; players could stand on its head with no risk of damage though.
  • Eventually, The Imprisoned is driven back when Groose runs in and starts launching bombs at it from the Groosenator; the bombs would cause heavy damage and knockback to anybody hit by them, and whoever was camping on The Imprisoned's head will probably die instantly.
  • After warning sounds play for a few seconds, anybody stupid enough to stay in the pit will be hit by the falling Sky Keep, which will briefly replace the pit with the Goddess Temple and change the layout of the stage.
  • The Sky Keep returns to the heavens, hurting anyone standing on it. The events then repeat themselves.

The Roivas Mansion from Eternal Darkness

Aside from Geist, Eternal Darkness is the only M-Rated game directly published and owned by Nintendo. If the inclusion of Solid Snake is any indication, they are willing to include elements of mature games so long as the element itself isn't questionable. The stage would be set in the foyer of the mansion, with different sanity effects influencing the level structure and events during the fight.

Misc. Part One

The next Smash Bros will be an outright Crossover

Smash 4 will take the the precedent set by introducing Sonic and Snake in Brawl to its logical conclusion, pitting Nintendo's combatants against an entirely different company's roster of fighters. My money's on Capcom.

  • Super Smash Bros. vs. Capcom
  • This troper feels Smash Bros. VS Dissidia is more likely, given how many people from Square helped out on Brawl.
  • (Not the op)I was thinking something more like just adding characters that were once on a nintendo system. This way they can still keep the nintendo theme, but have more characters. For example: Sora, the Resident Evil 4 main character, Laharl, and Phoenix Wright could all qualify. Hypothetically, of course.
    • Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono wants to pitch a Nintendo X Capcom to Masahiro Sakurai. If there's any time something like this is going to happen, it's now.

Snake's respect of Luigi is due to his own "brother", Liquid.

Snake's seen firsthand what can happen to an "inferior" brother, so he frowns upon such shoddy treatment of Luigi, lest he try to hijack a Metal Gear or something.

  • This means that when he saw the Negative Zone, he probably mutterred, "Too Late."
  • Or it may be about Raiden, who had to endure similar abuse from AI Colonel.

Tabuu is actually many people

Or actually, many people are really just the influence of his power on other worlds. You see he wants to take over, but he can only project parts of himself into different worlds at a time, and after he had been defeated for the somethingth time (as things like Zero 1/2 , Gigyas , Cackletta etc,) he finally got the idea to, instead of bringing himself to their worlds, he would bring their worlds to him, where he had full power, but he hadn't finished bringing all the pieces together, so they just fought a really strong shadow of himself.

  • Marx from Kirby Super Star has to be in there somewhere. He's got his moves.

SSB takes place on Earth-Crossover

Earth-Crossover was an alternate Earth established originally by a series of stories where DC and Marvel characters coexisted in the same universe. The profile above includes various other licensed properties that crossed over with Marvel characters or had comics published by Marvel. Using a series of crossovers, one can establish that the SSB universe is actually one mega-crossover universe. It works like this:

  • Solid Snake appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He previously appeared in another crossover fighting game, DreamMix TV World Fighters, which, among others (Beyblade, Bomberman, Castlevania, Twinbee, Gradius, Microman, and Bloody Roar), featured Optimus Prime and Megatron of Transformers, who were featured in their own Marvel comic book, where they met Spider-Man and Marvel-owned characters like Circuit Breaker. Marvel, of course, has had crossovers with DC (and thus bringing in Mortal Kombat and a bunch of others), Doctor Who, Star Trek and more. It also means that, by way of Marvel vs. Capcom and others, almost all Capcom characters are brought in, as well as The King of Fighters (itself a crossover!) and numerous Tatsunoku anime characters. Capcom also had the crossover with many Namco games in Namco X Capcom which included characters from Soul Calibur so we can also bring in the Guest Fighter from God of War, Star Wars and Image Comics. The two main leads of Namco x Capcom originally appeared in Super Robot Wars opening the door to just about every mecha anime ever made. Image of course had the reputation for the horrific Death Mate crossover which drags Valiant Comics (the only name most people will recognize from there is Turok). Also since we have established Marvel and DC are part of this mess we can bring in their parent companies Disney and Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers brings with it Cartoon Network originals and Disney brings Disney Animated Canon and Kingdom Hearts. Naturally Kingdom Hearts brings along Final Fantasy as well. If you wanted to go even further, you could connect this universe to the Expanded Wold Newton Universe. So, in short, SSB is the lynchpin of one of the biggest crossovers by implication ever.
      • Mind = Blown
      • If Star Trek is in, the entire Tommy Westphall universe is in. Smash just entered the snowglobe.
      • OK that was epic, but how do you know all that?
        • We probably don't. It's all speculation and implication. Regardless, I'll add more to the list. If Disney AND Warner Brothers are implicated, then Who Framed Roger Rabbit? brings in nearly every well-known classic cartoon ever made, save for Hanna-Barbera. Backtracking to the source, Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day are brought in via Rare's former work on Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Cong Country. And according to The Other Wiki, Sabrina the Teenage Witch had a crossover with Sonic in the Archie Comics. I couldn't find any links to Nickelodeon, Bandai (Pokemon vs. Digimon, anyone?) or anything extremely popular that hasn't been mentioned yet.

All the characters in SSB are just copies.

The people of the Smashverse wanted entertainment, so their leader (Master Hand) observed other worlds and made copies of their greatest heroes. The thing is, these copies cannot be killed, only turned into trophies. And they have an irresistable urge to fight each other, which explains why characters who were friends in their original 'verse are now beating the crap out of each other.

Anyway, these characters fight in front of crowds, which is why we hear spectator noises throughout the fights, and why there's an announcer.

  • this would also explain why Kirby can use some of his powers without eating beasties(am i the only person who dislikes this?), master hand found that those were the powers he used most often
  • Eh, sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn't your idea. This is the REAL PLOT.
    • The "they're all trophies and not the real ones," yes. The "Master Hand copied them from the real ones" isn't confirmed either way.

Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Tabuu are Harman Smith, Kun Lan and Iwazaru.

Iwazaru has a smiliar stance to Tabuu, Harman represents Master Hand and Kun Lan is Crazy Hand.

Everyone else is Emir.

Specially Mr. Game and Watch.

the Brawlverse is actually Valhalla.

It would explain the presence of (death spoiler!) Snake, anyways. Tabuu is Loki trying to sew seeds of discord among the Einherjar, which is why the more chaotic ones were so easy to trick for him. Master Hand never actually existed except as his puppet.

  • Snake's not dead.
    • Maybe he's talking about Big Boss? The Snake in Brawl is seemingly a Composite Character, anyway...

Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Tabuu are Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu, respectively.

Master Hand created the world of the trophies, so he fits in with being Brahma the Creator. SSBB explicitly states that Crazy Hand is a destructive force opposing Master Hand, thus he can be likened to Shiva the Destroyer. This leaves Tabuu, who's like Vishnu the Preserver, gathering together all the interesting people and places of the world in his domain, where they would stay for eternity, had Dedede's Xanatos Roulette not come to fruition.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand represent the twin spirits of creativity and self-control.

Without creativity in a video game, you're bored. Without self-control in a video game, you have no fun, as you have no limit to what you can do. The two forces are equal and opposite and need to be in tune to create a game. The final battle, then, is a metaphor for the difficulty of creating a game.

  • How is having no limit of what you can do a bad thing? Just look at LittleBigPlanet.
    • Even LittleBigPlanet has it's limits. You only get to make platformer type levels, and all your creations must be 3 layers or less. and you have to use the textures that they give you.
    • If what you can do is unlimited (or at least has very large boundaries), you tend to just stick to a few things that works. This is kinda why Scribblenauts got average reviews, despite all the hype. Also, if the game is truly unlimited and has no boundaries, you tend to get sucked into the Quicksand Box.
  • To paraphrase the almight Pantsman: one always ends up having too much fun screwing around in that vast world they give you, and subsequently getting distracted from any sort of goal and ending up bored.
  • Half of this one is confirmed - the trophy for Master Hand calls him the embodiment of creation. Crazy Hand is the embodiment of destruction, though.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are Glover and Crosstich, respectively

Glover was so bad it was good, but nobody realized this. Glover and Crosstitch are pissed, so they've decided to take it out on all the popular characters.

  • I have been saying this since the original SSB. I love you.

Tabuu is part of an Evil Plan on the part of Sonic the Hedgehog.

It is waaay too suspicious that Sonic arrived in the nick of time to save the day, despite not appearing before and it being improbable that he could be there without, say, Tails and the Tornado, or some such. Tabuu was something he created with Chaos Control as a threat so that he could infiltrate his ancient foes of Nintendo, and take them out from the inside, knowing that no external force could really do the job due to their resilience and teamwork. Presumably, at some point after the game he assassinates the lot of them. Or perhaps enslaves them, it depends on if he's more angry about his parent company's downfall- the former- or his game's sucking, which would lead to the latter (he would make them work to improve his games).

  • Alternatively, Sonic was in the Subspace because he was the weakest from his games being awful. Hence, he had to bide his time before making his strike.
    • Alternatively alternatively, it was a gambit by Dr. Eggman. After realising the nature of his world (i.e. one that exists based on the popularity of the Sonic games), he realises that the Sonic world is slipping into Subspace, aka video game hell (see the theory further down about Subspace being the place where various genres go once they die), and thus decides that, if he cannot prevent the slide into Subspace, he can at least rule it! Thus, he unleashes Chaos again, who, after his defeat in Sonic Adventure, is far easier to control, but is in far greater control over its powers. After being given the Chaos Emeralds to consume, Dr. Eggman renames it Tabuu, which is just a pseudonym to prevent Sonic from stopping him. The Subspace Army, the Subspace Bombs, and the army of R.O.B's were all created by Dr. Eggman, with the Ancient Magister being the one true R.O.B, who Dr. Eggman based all the copies on after being beaten into submission by Tabuu. The reason we don't see or fight Eggman after Tabuu/Perfect Chaos' defeat is because Sonic's hand in defeating Tabuu/Perfect Chaos is the other half of Eggman's Xanatos Gambit: by appearing in an already successful series, he has brought some good publicity back onto the Sonic series, the proof being the lack of apprehension around Sonic Unleashed, despite the whole werewol f thing. Put simply, Eggman's plan was two pronged: had Tabuu/Perfect Chaos succeeded in pulling the Nintendo universe into Subspace, Eggman can rule with Tabuu/Perfect Chaos as his proxy, whereas if Sonic intervened and helped defeat Tabuu/Perfect Chaos, then the Sonic series gets a second chance at restoring its former glory and pulling it back from the brink of Subspace. Just. As. Planned.
      • This sounds more plausible when you remember the tickens, who let a small bird fly away when defeated. Now, who used to lock these poor little animals into machines?
      • Yet another alternately is that Tabuu kidnapped/stole the real Sonic about a half decade ago and replaced him with a fake that was intentionally meant to be inferior. The Smash characters gave Sonic enough time to break free from Tabuu's prison and escape.
        • OR, Sonic was caught in the Subspace Battleship's shot and pulled into Subspace, where he spent the time the others were getting through the Great Maze trying to find the one responsible for what happened.
  • I always thought it was so he could finally prove that, as a Sega character, he does what Nintendon't.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are the hands of a young Haruhi Suzumiya playing with her toys.

We know the Hands control everything, and we know the characters are toys being manipulated by the hands. Who do we know who ages normally and lives on earth, and thus had a chance to be in that position, yet had the power to manipulate reality on the level required? None other than Haruhi. Master Hand represents her creative side, Crazy hand the side thats getting bored and wants to smash everything and start over- which is why it always shows up far into it. Tabuu is just someone she invented because she was starting to get bored with the same characters fighting over and over, which is also why there were so many Reveals in Subspace Emissary- she was getting bored and trying to come up with something new, eventually falling back on an Original Character.

  • Yeah, sure. At least this way I can kick her ass three different ways!

The whole of SSE is a VR Simulation that was used to get Snake up to speed with combat (and the CQC techniques that Naked Snake/Big Boss had) between MGS 2 and MGS 4.

In short, a world where Nintendo characters (plus one blue hedgehog and a rouge Fox Hound agent) fight and turn into life-sized trophies upon defeat doesn't make much in the way of sense. The only way it could make sense is if, indeed, Snake is playing out a, albeit rather outlandish by Kojima standards, virtual simulation to get up to speed in terms of combat since the events of MGS 2.

  • Tabuu is, of course, not a part of the simulation, but a computer program that hacked its way in and is trying to kill Snake with Your Mind Makes It Real, so that he can take Snake's body. He has to kill all the others because they were rewritten by Dedede's badge programs to be firewalls to Snake.
  • Or, the Snake in SSE is the real Snake, and the Metal Gear games are just a fictional account of his life story. Hell, let's just assume that ALL the characters in Smash are the 'real' ones.
    • Snake's in-game Codec calls seem to contradict this, often specifically referring to events and characters of Metal Gear.

Mr. Game & Watch is the Lord of Hammerspace.

Which is why he's 2-D in a 3-D world.

Mr. Game & Watch is Hammerspace.

He gained sentience due to all of the magical items inside him.

  • Likewise troper-canon.

Mr. Game & Watch is the Heartless of R.O.B.

He, being heartless, was glad to provide via a process of budding the Primids. Once his inner goodness is revived, and he joins the side of good, the resonance causes the reprogrammed R.O.B., effectively a nobody, to regain emotion subroutines, leading to the Ancient Minister's sudden Heel Face Turn.

Luigi has somehow gotten his hand on Dio's "The World" Stand and all his negative thoughts about being in Mario's Shadow has lead to his Negative Zone final Smash.

You look at that technique and tell me it's not a take on The World's time stop.

Luigi's 'Negative Zone' was originally meant to be called 'Minus World'.

I wonder why they changed it?

  • Possibly it was a mistranslation. Or even a purposeful mistranslation as a reference to old games, such as the phrases "Shine Get!" or "I, garland, will knock you all down!"
    • I always figured that it was a reference to the "Minus World" glitch in Mario 1.
    • I'd say Whoa Zone. See below.
    • I doubt it, the Negative Zone is nothing like Minus World.

Luigi is still the Man In Green.

The Prophecy of the Dark Prognosticus isn't over yet, the villains possessing Luigi actually delayed/altered it. Thus Luigi is still his Universe's version of the Anti-Christ.

Luigi is one of two separate Luigis.

In Super Mario Galaxy, there are two Luigis: the playable one and the one who you rescue and who subsequently finds stars for you. One of them is the "normal" Luigi who has no seemingly occult powers, and the other is the Brawl-playable one who knows the ways of the Negative Zone. As much as it carries the implication that we're not really playing as Luigi in Brawl, or at least not the "true" one, on the other hand, this troper is a fan of Luigi and thinks that he might have gotten a bit too weird in Brawl. I've also mentioned this idea in the WMG page for Super Mario Bros.

Luigi will have Negative Zone replaced by something else in Brawl 4...

But Waluigi will become playable and inherit Negative Zone (aka "Waluigi Time") as his Final Smash.

The characters of Subspace Emissary are distant relatives of the Weeping Angels.

Instead of turning into statues when looked at, they turn into trophies when severely wounded.

The Pikachu in Brawl evolved from Pichu in Melee.

Think about it. In Brawl, Pikachu has one of Pichu's taunts, two of Pichu's costumes from Melee (in particular, the goggles) and, of course, it knows Volt Tackle, a move that can only be known by a Pikachu evolved from a Pichu.

  • Not to mention it can wall jump -- something that Pichu could do, but Melee's Pikachu couldn't.
    • Correction: Pikachu could in Melee. Many stories are made up(possibly) because everyone hated Pichu...yet missed him in Brawl.
      • Alas, Poor Scrappy.
      • Every character could Wall Jump, if you ukemi'd off the wall. But IIRC Pikachu wasn't capable of walljumping normally.
    • Perhaps the Pikachu from Melee evolved into Raichu, justifying the need for a replacement Pikachu.
    • Various problems- Pichu evolves via happiness. Everyone hated Pichu. Second, Light Balls and Volt Tackle didn't exist in the second generation (or at least Volt Tackle didn't). Pichu couldn't have gotten it anyway, originating from those games.
    • He evolved in between the games with his original trainer, after the attack came out.
  • Maybe this can provide some insight?

The Smash Bros. characters cannot be wounded, and are effectively immortal.

This is pretty observable - they show absolutely no visible damage upon being sliced through with blades, blown up by explosives, eaten, and launched hundreds of feet away by a single blunt impact - the worst they show for it is being turned into a trophy, which can be revived back to optimal health with a single touch. The trophies are indestructible, as evidence by Bowser's attempts to damage Ganondorf's trophy; despite him punching and biting it repeatedly, it doesn't show so much as a scratch, and Bowser walks away, likely in full knowledge the trophy was indestructible and merely venting some anger.

  • Yes, this is probably true.
  • I don't have personal experience with this, but doesn't Bowser's trophy shatter in Melee after defeating Giga Bowser?
    • Yes, Bowser does disintegrate when defeated, but not only is the Bowser faced in Adventure Mode significantly larger and stronger than the controllable Bowser, but the latter couldn't transform into Giga Bowser until Brawl. Hence, the Bowser faced in Adventure Mode is a different trophy entirely, most likely part of an identical set (which explains how it can be destroyed by all the Melee characters and still be around).

Tabuu and Giygas are transdimensional alternates/opposites of each other.

Tabuu and Giygas are so similar and yet opposite to each other that this must be true - they are both otherworldly beings with immense power, but while Tabuu is a being of pure rationality, said to have great leadership skills and characterized by his elaborate plans, Giygas is an uncontrollable being of pure emotion, completely without any level of rationality or intelligence. Their forms are similarly opposite - while Tabuu is clear blue with a distinctive silhouette, whose form is iconic and imposing, Giygas is a red, indistinct mass of pure terror. Perhaps Tabuu and Giygas are alternate destinies of the same being (hitherto referred to as "Giegue" for convenience) - Tabuu results when Giegue masters his powers and brings them under his control, thus becoming the intelligent but immensely strong master of Subspace. Giygas, however, results when Giegue loses control of his power and it destroys his mind and body, resulting in an uncontrollable mass of pure evil power only loosely driven by his emotions. This also explains how Tabuu could gain the allegiance of the selfish Porky, who pledged his allegiance to Giygas until his defeat.

Olimar is not actually a fighter.

Think about it: The characters in Smash bros. are Trophies. The trophies are probably about the size of Olimar, (that's one talented trophy maker.) and Olimar is about the size of Kirby in-game. The ROB that Olimar was fighting was a real-world ROB, which is why it was gigantic compared to Olimar and Captain Falcon combined.

  • Yeah that's always bothered me. But the problem with that is Captain Falcon was also tiny. Why would that Captain to be a different one than what we use to fight?
    • That's because Captain Falcon is a trophy which is about the size of the real Olimar.

Dark Cannons and Trophy Stands are devices to turn Nintendo characters into Trophy Fighters and Assist Trophies.

How else would there be 'Newcomers'?

The Ice Climbers as seen in this game, intentionally or not, represents two faces of Yandere.

Among the different kinds of Yandere, there is the obsessive one who will kill her/himself if the beloved one dies, and the possessive one who may either kill both of them to stay together forever, kill just the beloved so they'll be together yet again, or brutally murder somebody who dares to touch or harm their... erm, victim. The only times that Nana doesn't magically disappear upon his death is when she's in black and red. Remember, black has to do with death and red is also violent, blood - and love. In short: Nana is mostly obsessive, but with her Red and Black costumes she obtains her possessive side, who goes insane with grief (not shown because it would take too long time, you don't want to wait for her lust of revenge to be satisfied do you... Player?) whenever Popo is thrown away, and then continues the rampage that he was on for his sake. However, she becomes a much worse fighter on purpose so she can meet him again sooner. The other colours are the obsessive side who kills herself instantly to stay together with him... until the trophies are brought back alive and thrown onto the stage, where her mind resets and they are back to their original state of mind. Popo is likewisely more possessive but has a tendency to become obsessive whenever Nana is possessive.

The World of Trophies is filled with underground vegetables and Pikmin.

Anybody agree?

Master Hand is the Announcer.

Come on, he CREATED the world of Trophies, and he's voiced by the guy who does the Announcer.

Even though the announcer is a different guy in each game, the Master Hand is still voiced by that guy.

Tabuu is Master Hand's father.

From the original game, we know that the Master Hand is a kid playing with his toys. Tabuu "captures" the Master Hand during the Subspace Emissary, forcing him to defeat his creations - i.e., clean-up his toys. Subspace is really just the toy closet. At the end, after mother/father and child have put everything away, the Sonic figure within the closet falls, inadvertently starting an avalanche of the other toys, at which point the mom just gives up. This also explains why characters are where they are at the start of SSE; the Hand was just playing with his toys, and was just experimenting putting different figures with different playsets (R.O.B. on a giant floating island, possibly an Angel Island set, for instance).

  • Let's extend it even farther; in the first game, the characters are plushes. In Melee, they are trophies. Why? The Master Hand's friend, the Crazy Hand, brought over a bunch of character trophies from the second series of Nintendo's "Smash Bros." toy line, the successor to the Master Hand's collection of plush dolls. The friend is a bit more destructive (and thus perhaps younger) than the Master Hand, and, of course, left-handed. Their playtime depicted in Melee convinces the Master Hand to start collecting them, but he was unable to find the out-of-print Mewtwo, Roy, Pichu, Young Link, and Dr. Mario trophies in time for Brawl. The Crazy Hand comes back over to play during Classic and Boss Battles, but his absence in SSE means he wasn't playing over that day.
  • And the ungloved hand in Melee's opening? Notice how it's the left hand, and how it throws the Mario trophy rather haphazardly. That hand is the Crazy Hand, before Tabuu comes in and tells him that, in their house, they have a rule that you have to wear gloves when playing with toys so you don't hurt yourself. Tabuu is really overprotective.
    • Or Master Hand wants to make sure that his stuff dosn't get messed up, or crazy Hand liked the Gloves and somehow got some (Or might have borrowed them) some
  • The Fighting Polygon team from the first game is made out of Play-Doh. Metal Mario is a figurine, the first one of the trophy toy line that he collected (probbably as a birthday present from the Crazy Hand).
  • The characters which must be "unlocked" are either "lost" (for example, Ness in Brawl) by MH or "new" (as in the case of MK, Sonic, etc.). The "areas" merely represent the aforementioned "playsets." The subspace bombs and "arrow-shootin' guns" in Brawl may represent putting them away in boxes to simplify clean-up. As for the Ancient Minister and Dr. Mario, Mario and R.O.B. just came in regular and "collector's edition" versions.
  • Here's an extension of this idea based on the extended description of the SSE storyline given here. All of the events of SSE are because the kid's family is moving to a new house and Tabuu aka the father (since the official website describes Tabuu as male) is forcing the kid to pack up the trophies and playsets -- depending on the age of the kid, he may think this is packing them up forever. Paraphrasing from the website, Tabuu is stuck in Subspace and wants to cut up the world the heroes live in: the father has no imagination of the kid's fantasy world, and he wants to reduce it to the discrete inanimate objects. Chains of light force the Master Hand to do Tabuu's bidding, i.e. the father is forcing the kid to pack his toys away. The Master Hand in turn has bad guy characters like Ganon and Bowser do his bidding, i.e. the kid doesn't want to put them away, so he imagines that the bad guys do the work. The circular shockwaves Tabuu emits that KO characters instantly are the father yelling at his kid -- doing so snaps the kid back into the real world and the trophies, without his control, fall to the ground lifeless. King Dedede's plan to restore some of the heroes is the kid fighting back against the perceived aggression by taking steps to ensure that not all of them end up in Subspace/the boxes. So instead he puts badges on them, aka slips a few into his pocket so he can play with them later. Tabuu reconstructs elements of the heroes' world into a maze -- the father puts the playsets haphazardly into a box. At the end, the heroes win when they get to their new house and the kid sets it all up again. All the parts of the world are restored, except the Isle of the Ancients, which is destroyed because that playset is lost or broken during the move.
    • That was awesome.

Alternate version of the "Kid with his Toys"-theory

It all started with a pair of siblings living together with their somewhat childish dad (in an AU of our world), who once bought a trophy set of his favourite characters at the time. Their dad was often busy with work, so when the small kids didn't have him around, they would pitch these trophies against each other and pretend that the scenery was there. They had an idea that after every 11th "battle", the elder brother always said "Hey, it's hard controlling so small trophies with my hand, I'll simply use the hand itself". (Classic mode) Later on (Melee), Dad found another set to add to the first, but the elder son wasn't interested anymore - he was in a "Childish things are dumb"-phase, so he and the younger one played very similarily to how the siblings had done before, only that Dad sometimes used his left hand as well - as he in his youth had been forced to write with the right despite being a leftie, left became the "Crazy Hand" as he was better at using it for toying pruposes and the kid would always make his characters think "Man, that big hand is crazier than the other!". Now for the interesting part, Brawl.

Many years later, the elder son had become a film director, and remembering his childhood he managed to convince the copyright holders of the trophies and the characters to let him direct a movie based on his memories of the toys, although he had forgotten some from the second set and also added some of the video game characters he played in his phase. The movie wasn't selling too well, so he let another person take care of the game adaption, that worked much better. This would explain why SSE includes at least some emotions in the cutscenes, why Master Hand's voice is different in each game - first they joked around with the brother's voice, then Dad's, and finally a professional voice actor's, and the absence of some Melee characters.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are Them.

First of all, They seem to have access to other dimensions, as They manifest in Real Space as the the Orz. This allows Them to group together so many video game characters, by moving to their dimensions. The Orz are said to be Their "fingers," so by extension, Master Hand and Crazy Hand could be Their hands. Besides, Master Hand and Crazy Hand wear gloves. Who's to say that under those gloves are the Orz, where the fingers would be?

In the SSE storyline, Snake was hired by Dedede.

This is what we know about Snake's role in Subspace Emissary: 1) Snake was on a mission. 2) Snake is against the Subspace army. 3) Snake is inactive until Dedede is trophified. Since Dedede was on the Halberd when it was taken, he could give Snake access to the ship (somehow). Snake would then hide on board and keep a link with Dedede via the Codec, where he would act when given the signal and/or something happened to Dedede (only the latter ended up happening). His mission was to retake the Halberd, eliminate the supply of Shadow Bugs, and rescue any captives on board. If it weren't for the blowing up the Island of the Ancients and subsequent use of the gunship--as well as several other factors that neither Snake nor Dedede could have possibly known about--it would have effectively destroyed the Subspace Army.

  • This Troper would like to add in that not only Snake was hired by Dedede but also Fox, Falco, Captain Falcon, and Samus. Fox and Falco were assigned to try to destroy the guns on the Halberd before boarding it and meeting up with Snake to retake it with him. Falco was falling behind a bit because he had to go and get the Great Fox. Captain Falcon and Samus were teamed up on the Isle of Ancients. From there, the two split up and Samus found the Research Facility while Falcon met Olimar, DK, and Diddy.

Ness and Lucas are astronomy fans in this continuity.

They can both use PK Starstorm, a technique neither could use in their respective games. This is because they are actually using their own custom-made PK attack, which is named after their favorite thing; their Final Smashes are called PK Starstorm because starstorms are their favorite things.

  • I think this is just to make the graphics logical. And allow a sound effect. Frankly, PK Starstorm is appropriate considering the importance of aliens.
    • I would have killed to have Ness use PK Rockin', though (since that's the first Don't Care name, much like Ness is).
  • The trophies mentioned that they learned it from the person they know who knows PK Starstorm (Poo and Kumatora, respectively.)

Cloud Strife was originally going to be in Brawl, but they couldn't get the rights, so they replaced him with Ike.

Imagine, Sakuri wanted to put Cloud in brawl, so he made the team create Cloud. But they didn't have time to get the rights from Square to use Cloud (who would be idiots NOT to accept), and they ended up Ike, another pretty boy with a big sword.

Here are my reasons Cloud was orignially in brawl:

1. In Brawl, Ike fights alot like you'd expect Cloud to, slow but powerful attackts, and a BFS. 2. Do you see many Ike fans around here? Nither do I. 3. Compare Cloud's Omnislash to Ike's Great Aether and tell me you don't see a resemblance.

  • The problem with this theory though is Cloud is pretty much the biggest anti-Nintendo Final Fantasy character ever. Final Fantasy VII was the first FF not released on a Nintendo console, and putting him in Brawl would just be a bit of a mockery really of why they left. Now stick in one of the Final Fantasy VI cast, and you have yourself a brilliant, deserving of their place third party FF character. And there a lot of Ike fans out there.
    • Personally, I would've loved FFII/IV's Rydia to be playable; Being a summoner, it would've made for some epic final smashes :)
  • Ike, like Roy before him, was included as a representative for the most recent Fire Emblem game. It's the same reasoning that replaced Mewtwo with Lucario.
    • Plus, if you've played the game, you realize just how badass Ike is. Badass enough for Smash Bros.
  • Not many Ike fans? I beg to differ. I'm totally gay for Ike. Okay, maybe I'm a little extreme, but aside from being in the most recent game, Ike is also, on his own, one of the more popular lords of Fire Emblem. I couldn't give you any sources offhand, but I've heard that Ike has come behind only Marth and Sigurd in Japanese popularity polls.
    • Same here! Ike's awesome! Better than Marth, at least.
    • On another random unrelated note, Ike's Great Aether is more similar to Squall's Lion Heart, if you ask me.
  • From the start all that had been declared was that the characters would've been on Nintendo consoles. 'sides, Ike was pretty much one of the first brought out. If they were trying to secure the rights to Cloud they wouldn't've promoted him as early as they had.

Tabuu is the embodiment of the Xbox 360.

He looks like some kind of high-tech... thing, when the Isle of Ancients is destroyed it turns into a very Xboxy-looking X, and his most annoying move involves Red Rings of Doom.

  • I wold like to move that subspace is the embodiment of games and genres becoming forgotten in the "Current Gen," the place where games are forgotten by all ether by means of time or by the newer game being horrid (Hence why Sonic was in subspace). The Stadium geting Subspaced at the start represents the genre of 2D fighters dying out for example, it would also explain Jigglypuff, Wolf and Toon Link being trapped in Subspace (their doors don't appear until Tabuu is destroyed) as Jigglypuff is from the first generation of Pokemon games and now 1 of 649 Monsters to think about, Wolf debuted on the N64, which isn't well received and Toon Link started in Wind Waker, a game vilified for its art style in the shadow of the Spaceworld 2001 tech demo.
  • Sonic survived in subspace because people still remember how good the original Sonic Trilogy, CD, Chaotix, the handhelds, and the adventure games were, he was waiting for the right moment to strike against Tabuu, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Rush, and (to a lesser extent) Sonic Rivals gave him the means to fight back, just as he was about to Red Ring everyone a second time.
  • Also notice Samus starts off rather weak, and then makes a very explosive and badass comeback during the story. It seems to illustrate the period after Super Metroid until the release of Metroid Prime.
  • It could stand for reason, then, that Tabuu might actually be the embodiment of the Video Game Market Crash of 83. He stands for the flood of shovelware that was released and the poor quality games of famous franchises (ET and Pac-Man) and is the spirit of all the quality games that should have been and yet were not ether because people overestimated technology, rushed the game though development or were never able to develop them due to market conditions.
    • Tabuu, cursed to eternally be the embodiment of "what ifs" and "never-nevers," wishes to subject the Smash Brothers world (The embodiment of Nintendo (And Konami and Sega by proxy) ) to the horror and despair the Video Game industry's follies and have the world and it's inhabitants consumed into subspace (The video game equivalent of hell, not Super Paper Mario's Underwhere, just so we're clear on that) so it may force all to wallow in it's eternal damnation in some sort of sick, condemned, entertainment.
      • So, yes, Tabuu is more or less the Video Game equivalent of the Anti-Spirals
      • So if Tabuu is the Anti-Spiral, who's Kamina?
        • Captain Falcon!
      • Also, Lucas is Simon, Pikachu is Boota (or at least his descendant considering the Pokemon WMG page), Samus is Yoko, and either Master Hand or Ganondorf is Lord Genome
        • Furthermore, Peach is Nia, Rossiu is the Ancient Minister who wants to save as many of his people as possible and later realizes the error of his ways, and Bowser is Guame.
        • Also, Link is Viral.
          • Actually, I think Dedede's Viral. Link might be Kittan.
    • Obviously, this means that Tabuu has enacted his subspace plan before (specifically, in 1983). That time, he succeeded in destroying the world. The only survivors of the previous subspace cataclysm were the Pac-family, Frogger, and Pitfall Harry (quick, name a pre-1983 video game character besides those). Pitfall Harry and Frogger both passed on during the PS 1 era due to their horrible revival games, but the Pacs are still out there... somewhere.
      • The Pong Paddle.
      • #$%^ Qbert, Mother@$%#s!
      • What about Evil Otto and the little man with the invincble neck in Berzerk?
      • How can you forget Taizo Hori from Dig Dug?
      • Also, among the playable characters, Mr. Game and Watch first showed up in 1980, and Donkey Kong debuted in 1981 (along with proto-Mario "Jumpman").
      • On reflection, the pre-Crash world is likely the "real world" Mario and Luigi originally hailed from (after all, the original Mario Bros. was from the 2600 era). So they, too, would be survivors of the Great Crash.
        • This also explains the ancient R.O.B. civilization, since they saved the world from Tabuu's first attempt.
        • Pacman is imprisoned as an exhibit in the Namco Mueseum.
        • It is interesting to note that the first Smashers to be targeted by Tabuu were survivors of the Great Crash. Mr. Game and Watch was captured before the game started, Mario was involved in the Halberd's attack on Midair Stadium, and Bowser sent his entire army after Donkey Kong before doing anything else. Dedede probably took Luigi first to keep the last survivor out of Tabuu's hands.
  • Let me drive this even further. Mario and Kirby were the two first characters, which makes sense since these seemt to be some of the most popular characters around. Zelda and Peach are equally powerful due to their series's popularity. Peach getting captured by Wario (this way makes more sense) signifies Wario getting more popular than mario, and is also why Mario seems helpless alot of the time later on. Yoshi was a new series and slowly gaining popularity, which might be why he's shown waking up the first time you see him. Kirby has about the same amount of strength the whole way through. Dedede is revealed pretty early on, which makes sense since he was Kirbies first boss. And as even MORE "proof" Olimar is quite weak and scared when he first arrives, because at that point in the nintendo timeline he was a new character. Captain Falcon, on the otherhand was part of a popular racing game series which is why he's so powerful, plus his Falcon Punch made him perminantly famous. Especially with the Metroid Prime area, since about that point, new F-Zero games started getting released on newer consoles. And if you thought that was impressive, Sonic appearing near the end (and quite powerful at that point as well) symbolises that he could survive in Subspace as mentioned earlier, and also that nintendo expect the newer sonic games to be alot better. I am good at this.
  • Or, Tabuu is the embodiment of Atari, Intellivision, Sega, and all those dead companies' resentment for Nintendo's amazing survival ability. The reason Sonic shows up is because Sonic games are now on Nintendo platforms, and so Sega's main character wants to help Nintendo, too.
  • So, how do Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations fit into this. Will Sonic become a Game Breaker? Will he bring a friend to the Brawl?

Brawl has a One True Pairing, and it's Samus x Snake.

  • Well, duh, everyone knows that!
    • She has the balls. He has the box.
      • But C. Falcon has one thing Snake doesn't have...
      • They have to be the OTP. They're both too hot for anybody else to handle.
        • Everyone knows C. Falcon and Snake are gay together. Sure it's gay, but it's AWESOME gay.
          • Can you say... "threesome"?
            • Well, this brings a whole new meaning to "show me your moves."
  • Personally, this Troper has seen WAY more Pikachu/Samus fanart. And, to be perfectly honest, they DO get more screen-time together and form a powerful connection....
  • Oh your so imaginative! No one has thought of that pairing before!

Lucas is a time traveler in this game/

Big endividience: Lucas is supposed to be born a while after Ness, but they both appear in this game, and with the same physical age. And since Ness was already in SSB like he is now, it must be Lucas, who has been "ripped out of his time". Also, the reason he seems to care so much about Ness is that he actually knows that he's related to him in some way, maybe his grandfather or something. (You are not usually THAT sad about a random boy you never met before, being turned to stone, even if he saved your life.) Maybe Porkey took Lucas with himself to Ness's time to eliminate him when his friends aren't around, so he would be helpless, but Ness interrupted and kicked his old Wannabe-Pal's ass. An alternate (and somehow even more provable) theory is, that none of the characters in SSBB is the actual hero from their universes, but just copies that were made for the one reason of fighting each other in epic battles. (And if this one was already proven by The Word Of God, please don't rip my head off)

  • That or Smash Bros. is an AU where Link, Fox, Pikachu, Ness, Lucas, etc. just so happen to coexist...
    • Word of God says this.
      • Also Lucas cares so much about Ness because Ness is the "Legendary Hero" to people in Lucas' time. Basically, kind of a big deal.
        • No one knows who Ness is in Lucas's time. At the most, they see him as a fictional character.
        • A fictional character that just saved his life.
  • I was once told that the original ending for Mother 3 would involve Ness time-traveling after Porky and battling with him before being forced to kill him. Rather then the whole Absolutely Safe Machine business. When I heard, I just immediately figured, "Huh. That's where they got that scene from Brawl." Thus NESS is the time-traveler here. Not Lucas.
    • But that's not solid evidence that Ness is the time-traveler. Your figuring, "That's where they got that scene from" is still just your speculation and nothing to go by. The scene in Brawl, if indeed Ness was supposed to go after Porky, could have just been a recycling of what could've been but was not.
  • Who said that Lucas was born after Ness? It's possible that Porky went back in time to screw with the Nowhere Islands. After all, after Lucas pulled the Last Needle and woke the Dragon, he could've created a whole new world, where Mother 1 and 2 took place. As far as I know, no limit was ever placed on Porky's time traveling. Also, Lucas felt bad about Ness because he did nothing to save him from Wario after Ness saved him from the King P statue. He was just feeling guilty, and determined to return the favor.
  • Why would Porky take Lucas back to Ness's time to render him helpless? If the point of taking Lucas away from his friends was to make him easier to kill without the support of Kumatora, Duster, and Boney (“helpless”, in that sense), why would Porky take him to a time where he could possibly get the aid of Ness and co., even if it was unlikely that any of them would be in the area? Not to mention that Lucas is not truly helpless helpless. He could still use PSI.
  • …That makes Porky the time traveler, not Lucas. And what does Ness having been in SSB and SSBM have anything to do with this? In any case, the problem is that there are too many in-game inconsistencies for Lucas to be the original from Mother 3. Like the fact that he's still faint-hearted and timid (age 9 at the very least), while in Mother 3, he learns PSI when he's already grown a spine (age 12 at most). And if the player decided to destroy the King P statue before confronting Porky, what's it doing in Brawl? If Porky pulled Lucas away before he managed to reach New Pork City, therefore preventing the statue paradox, when did Kumatora find the time to teach him all her PSI moves, including Starstorm? Someone should make a WMG solving all this… Then again, it's already canon that everyone's a trophy (right?), and there would be a ton of trouble explain the presence of the other Smashers…

The Ancient Minister is the only trophy R.O.B.

The Subspace Bombs require the destruction of two R.O.B. units. There's also a cutscene where we see R.O.B.s ripped to shreds by an opening Subspace portal. But wait! In this world, trophies fight - why don't they turn into trophies like every other character? Equally, why wasn't the Ancient Minister affected when Ganondorf took control of the rest of the R.O.B. Squad? And come to that, why wasn't he obliterated by Tabuu's attack?

The explanation for all of this is simple. The R.O.B. who plays the part of the Ancient Minister is the only R.O.B. who is also a trophy.

How did he come to be this way? I'm not sure. A couple of wild guesses:

  • The Ancient Minister has more advanced AI - clearly the other R.O.B.s do have some AI, but perhaps they're more on the level of dogs or something. With sapience comes trophyness.
  • The Ancient Minister is the robotic version of Pinocchio. Somewhere along the line, a Great Fairy turned him into a Real Trophy.
  • The Ancient Minister is a R.O.B. from Gyromite, and like all the other video game characters in the game, is also a trophy. The others are actual R.O.B.s, upgraded in capacity and apparent intelligence, but still ultimately nothing more than circuits and plastic.
    • You mean Shadow Bugs. It's my personal belief that Shadow Bugs are EVERYTHING in Subspace, consdering Tabuu has an unlimited supply.
    • This troper believes that all ROBs used to be trophies, but the newer ROBs were built using subspace tools, so they leave no trophies. Maybe there's a big stash of old ROB trophies somewhere in subpspace.
      • That would explain why some of them are friggin' unkillable in cutscenes.
  • Alternatively, if we use the "kid playing with his toys" story, the kid uses his R.O.B. trophy/ies as the army of mooks the heroes need to fight before taking on the "real bad guys." He's imagining it in different colours (or has a couple R.O.B.s in different colours) and keeps putting it on the table to fight the good guys until he gets tired of it and decides to make R.O.B. become one of the good guys.

The Island of the Ancients is actually Angel Island.

First of all, it's a Floating Continent with just about the same shape as Angel Island is shown to have in the Sonic Games. Second, if you watch the cutscene where Samus and Pikachu leave the Research Facility, you can see a stone altar that looks almost exactly like the Shrine of the Master Emerald, sans Emeralds. As a wise judge once said: "two conicidences pointing to the same thing seems more like a pattern". What happened is this: a few days before everything happened, Knuckles suddenly received word that he had won an all-expenses paid vacation. Being gullible, he left and the Master Emerald got stolen; presumably by Robotnik or Wario. The island was targeted because of its vague but powerful mystic importance, and becasue there was a culture of robots living inside it, which made the place perfect for Tabuu's plans.

All this leads up to Knuckles coming back from his vacation and finding a very shiny piece of air where his life's mission used to be. Again.

  • Whether you're comparing the Isle of the Ancients against the Floating Island as seen in Sonic & Knuckles or the version in Sonic Adventure, the Isle looks nothing like the Island beyond both being flying rocks. They're completely different shapes.
    • At the most I'm betting it'd just a Shout-Out, sadly.
      • I like to think it is atleast an equivilant of Angel Island. Maybe in the next game sonic will visit the island and find the hidden Master Emerald or something.
    • Completely different shapes? Really? Compare the Isle of the Ancients, shown here, and Angel Island, shown here. Now, Angel Island has a few more mountains than the Isle of Ancients, but that's what happens when Robotnik burns and-or takes over your hometown on a regular basis.
      • "A few more mountains" is a pretty huge understatement. Angel Island's got a lot more altitude to it. And if you compare it to the Sonic Adventure version, which has a much, MUCH larger 'underside' they look even less alike.
  • Its probably Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog's Angel Island. All the labs are abandoned ancient Echidna technology, or Dark Legion bases. Nobody uses them, and they were sealed away. Until Dr. Eggman got hired by Ganondorf to conquer Angel Island. He then roboticised all the Echidnas turning them into ROB's, and Knuckles became the Ancient Minister. Then ordered them to bring out all the technology they had. And as soon as Eggman finished taking complete control, Ganondorf betrayed him. And he's never heard from for the rest of the game.

The Isle of Ancients is the Hidden Land.

Compare the two. They are both floating islands in the sky, and they are both hard to find. The Hidden Land was pulled through Subspace into the Brawl-verse, and it became a base of the Subspace Army. Temporal Tower was destroyed long ago and replaced with the Subspace Bomb Factory. This means that Super Smash Bros Brawl is actually the future of PMD2, if Darkrai actually succeeded in his plan.

Geno is actually in Brawl, as so many fans requested.

For that matter, he is also in the original game and Melee.

Now, I'm going to randomly switch to talking about Kirby. As far as I know, Kirby has never left his universe, known as Dream Land. (Or Popstar, or whatever planet he's on, but damn it I'm calling the universe Dream Land.) Obviously, this is because he is in the world of dreams. It stands to reason (well, no, it actually doesn't. At all. Let's just say it is.) that, if he were to appear outside of Dream Land, he would not appear as the pink puffball form he's known very well for.

Now, in Super Mario RPG, the Star Road was broken and and its pieces were scattered all over the Mushroom Kingdom. Kirby, the appointed guardian of peoples' dreams - peoples' wishes - realizes he has to go down and help recover them, but he can't take his original form outside of Dream Land (for some random, arbitrary reason that I haven't figured out yet. Someone help me out here.). So he sends his spirit down to inhabit - you guessed it - the body of a powerful-looking wooden puppet that shoots bullets out of his elbows.

Thus, Kirby is Geno, and Geno has been in Super Smash Bros. all along. Take That.

  • Have you considered teh possibility that Kirby is a dream and dreams basically can't exist outside Dream Land? I mean, do you see unrealistic things like Kirby in Real Life? Maybe a stretch, but...
    • Does that make Kirby Tidus? Would maybe explain why he never drowns...
    • Question- why would Kirby degrade himself by becoming something as lame and overhyped / overrated as Geno?
    • Because he's a baby.

Super Smash Brothers is the true story of a universe created by Shigeru Miyamoto.

As I stated in the Super Mario Bros WMG, Nintendo games are used to keep alternate planets/dimensions/timestreams etc. from being destroyed, conquered, or fucked-up. Shigeru Miyamoto used his powers to bring all the characters who went up against the hardiest foes (plus Pit, Pichu, and Mr. Game&Watch) together. He also ushered in the kickass-est foes themselves. Super Smash Bros. Universe is, hence, an alternate version of the Nintendo multiverse where everybody goes between creating/foiling evil schemes.

Also, it is through Miyamoto's power that Sonic et al. became real, because most non-Nintendo video games are fake. (Snake is the exception, his exploits-- which happened in OUR world-- were covered up.)

The universe Brawl takes place in is post-Instrumentality Earth.

Well, everything else is!

  • And thus, Tabuu is exposed as an Angel, given that his AT field stops Master Hand.

Master and Crazy Hand are controlled by the C.H.I.E.F.

This is all a Batman Gambit to lure Carmen in. Expect her to appear in the DS edition.

Alternately, they are the hands of Carmen Sandiego.

Who else would be stealing all the characters from Nintendo (and now others') games?

The whole of the Subspace Emissary is just a game. Master Hand was never in any real danger.

It's simple, really. When his parents took him to the toy store one day, he found some trophies from a different "series" besides the Nintendo series. He takes them home and then starts playing with them. When he hears his best friend the Crazy Hand was coming over, he decides to create a new "campaign" with the blue angel dude trophy called Tabuu as the main bad guy, and the rest of the trophies as his minions. However, he thought the blue angel guy was so cool he wanted to keep it a secret, so he pretended that the Ancient Minister trophy was the main baddie, then later changing his mind and telling him that Ganondorf was the main baddie who was taking orders from him. Eventually, as the Crazy Hand kept beating the minions under his control, Master Hand pulled out the Tabuu trophy and said that the whole time he wasn't the one sending out all those bad guy trophies, the blue angel guy was controlling him. Crazy Hand, being a kid, thought this was incredibly brilliant. This also explains why Crazy Hand never showed up, you were the Crazy Hand the whole time.

  • This troper will extend it further, the Master Hand is a boy named Nicholas who has an uptight family, he enjoys Nintendo, and usually plays it. He comes across a Genki Girl named Tara (aka. Crazy Hand) who loves videogames in general, but has a soft spot for Nintendo. They get together and play with the figurines they collect. One day, Nicholas' father (aka. Taboo) locks them away in a chest. Tara picks the lock with her Sonic doll, and... okay, can someone write this?
    • I thought of another thing! The Ancient Minister is Nicholas' mother, and the subspace bomb are a bag that she throws the toys in. Taboo binding Master Hand was symbolic of Nick's dad grounding him, and the Dedede Brooches were strings that Tara tied to the toys to be able to pull their three favorite figurines out. However, the Peach/Zelda figurines' string broke, so she just grabbed whatever and got Dedede. Also, Tara throws the Sonic Doll at Nicholas' father's head, which results in the final battle, where they ensue in a battle of wits!

Snake is the Meta Guy because he is being played by Master Hand's big brother/sister.

It makes sense. If the Brawl verse is a kid playing with his trophies, and Tabuu is his angry dad, he could have a sibling. This means that, in order to cheer hir kid brother up, s/he would take out a trophy s/he had--Snake. But because s/he's not familiar with the setting, s/he constantly points things out that seem normal to Master Hand.

Master Hand wasn't killed by Tabuu.

Why not? Because then there can't be any sequels.

  • Zombie.
    • Would that give him the power to throw maggots at fighters?
      • I would love to see a pair of zombie hands in the next game as an optional boss, but it makes more sense that they survive or are revived.
    • No. He wouldn't come back as a zombie, but as a Darth Vader-esque form you may already know as... the Power Glove. *cue lightning strike*
  • Alternatley when Tabuu was killed, Crazy Hand stole Tabuu's power and used it to revive Master Hand. Or just touch him lightly to revive him.
  • Who says he was even dead at all? He keeps coming back despite being defeated multiple times and even eaten by Kirby over in his games. He's got Joker Immunity.

There will be a Subspace Emissary movie in the near future.

Likely straight-to-DVD, though.

Reasons for this guess;

There's more than an hour of cutscenes.

What SSB fans WOULDN'T want a Brawl movie?

There are cutscenes deleted from the game.

All you really have to do is add a little gameplay footage in between each cutscene and release it.

Somebody's already thought of doing it.

This post on the Dojo seems rather suspicious.

Sonic was missing for most of SSE because he was attempting to reach a fast enough speed to hit Tabuu hard enough to wreck his wings.

Why did Sonic only show up in time to fight Tabuu? How did he manage to hit Tabuu hard enough to break his wings when even the Master Hand couldn't scratch him? Why did he subsequently lower to a much more believable level of power? A possible answer to all three is that he spent the entirety of the crisis running, picking up speed to relativistic levels to deliver one or two ridiculously powerful hits to the Big Bad when the situation called for it. He may or may not have known about Tabuu specifically, but likely knew something big and bad was happening and started running and looking out for whoever looked to be responsible. How did he gain access to Subspace? Doesn't seem hard... numerous "holes" had been opened, plus Tabuu seemed to draw much of the world into subspace toward the end. Why wasn't Sonic as powerful afterward? Well... he stopped, thus not moving at relativistic speeds, thus rendering him unable to hit with infinte mass anymore. Feel free to poke holes in this theory, it was just something this troper came up with at random.

  • This actually makes sense since the Flash pulled the same trick once (in a Justice League episode I believe).
  • My take was this: Sonic was not on the map yet when Tabuu's first red-ring attack happened, as evidenced by the fact that he did not get trophicated. He arrives right afterwards, on the furthest outskirts of Smashworld from the giant Subspace portal, and has to start playing catch-up. While we play through the Luigi/Dedede/Ness and Kirby levels in Subspace, Sonic is running closer. While we play through the Great Maze, Sonic is running closer. Being Sonic, and considering that all of the major enemies have been eliminated by everyone else already, he is able to traverse all of Smashworld, Subspace, & the Great Maze in the same amount of time it takes for Team Dedede to wake everyone and all of them to get through the Maze, hence his arrival at Tabuu's chamber at the same time as the rest of the cast. At that point, he's already moving, so then your idea about built speed does make sense, as he is able to cripple Tabuu's wings to weaken the red-rings.
  • This was my theory- he needed to take that big of a run up to hit Tabuu that hard. And since there's no Speed Force in Sonic, he didn't have to worry about that.

Super Smash Brothers in general, and the Subspace Emissary in particular, is actually a tabletop RP. Everyone's just engaged in Deep-Immersion Gaming.

Even if we assume that the Master Hand was creative enough to at least partially come up with the backstory for the Subspace Emissary on his own (Whether Tabuu is an extra-dimensional being, MH's Father, or being controlled by him), this doesn't explain why he has a ridiculous amount of trophies lying around. Even if we assume his parents are extremely rich, this still doesn't explain why Master Hand chooses only to use trophies when action figures are much more useful for doing pretend fighting. Either MH is a big enough fanboy to only use Nintendo trophies, or there's a more pragmatic reason he has both a ridiculous number of trophies, and chooses only to use those. This can be explained by Master Hand actually being a tabletop gamer Nintendo fanboy. The trophies are actually miniatures, and Master Hand is the GM. Before you ask "But wait! Super Smash Brothers is a fighting game, not an RPG!", that's because you're just seeing the battles from the point of view of the characters. In the real world, they're all rolling dice to see whether their attacks hit. Okay, so it's not actually all that likely, but it's still an interesting idea that lets you see everything from an entirely different perspective.

  • With this logic, the reason why characters turn into trophies instead of actually dying is because all the players are too immature to admit defeat.
  • Or the characters do die in game, but this system just has absurdly lenient revive system.

Peach and Zelda have enslaved a number of characters as gladiators.

The fact that Mario and Kirby start out as immobile trophies in the opening cutscene suggests that they were stored somewhere, along with who knows how many other characters. Since Peach nor Zelda are ever seen doing any actual work in their own games, it's possible they use these forced matches as a way to keep the public complacent.

  • I just went with the idea that they turned into trophies on purpose for a dramatic entrance.
  • Thanks for ruining Zelda for me, asshole.
    • Dude, I hope you're joking. It's just a game and this is (probably a joke theory.
    • Plus, Smash Bros has it's own canon. Zelda is still...herself in The LOZ canon.

Misc. Part Two

Mario is an alternate universe counterpart to Superman, and all other Nintendo characters correspond similarly.

Warning, this is the longest part of the Page. You have been warned.

  • He wears a red and blue costume, has a similar name- "Super Mario"- gains special abilities from the environment of his adopted homeworld (tieing in with the "mushroom kingdom has lesser gravity" theory mentioned above- which was the same explanation for Superman's powers in the original stories from the 30's- note original Superman had the same basic powerset as Mario- super strength, speed, and enhanced jumping ability), and is the primary hero in his universe. Most of Mario's additional powers come from plant life, such as mushrooms and fire flowers, which absorb sunlight through photosynthesis- similarly to Superman's solar fueled powers. Note that Mario's powerup abilities are similar to those of Superman-
  • Fireflower- Heat vision
  • Starman- Invulnerability
  • Raccoon/Cape/Wing Cap/Redstar- Flight (especially the cape)
  • Iceflower- Freeze breath
    • Yes this is a very loose connection, but consider the Tangent universe Superman, a bald black guy with ESP, and the numerous other bizarre elseworlds versions (German Expressionist Superman anyone?) and its relatively believable.
      • Additionally, this also solves the mystery of Wario's origin, as Wario is quite clearly the alternate universe counterpart to Bizzaro, and is therefore most likely an imperfect clone.
  • Furthermore, transitive equality means that Sonic is therefore an Elseworlds Goku, which makes sense what with the super-sonic form being oh so obviously Super Saiyan.
    • And suddenly, "NOW I'LL SHOW YOU!" actually becomes evidence for this. I mean, just listen to it after hearing Goku a few times!
  • Even further, this means Link is an Elseworlds Batman, what with all his weaponry, popularity, and stints between being a stoic badass and being cartoony.
    • So does this make Super Smash Bros the Crisis?
      • Yes. Melee is Infinite Crisis, and Brawl is Final Crisis.
        • But wouldn't that in turn make the alloys and wireframes the O.M.A.C.s?
    • QED Sheik = Catwoman.
  • To really run this into the ground, Samus is Wonderwoman (raised in a isolated, utopian society and granted powers by the gifts of the gods/ sufficiently advanced aliens), Mew is the Martian Manhunter (Pokemon could be from mars right?) Team Starfox are the Blackhawks (elite freelance mercenary unit of pilots), and they all live on Earth 64.
    • Braniac is either Andross or Mother-brain.
  • No, Samus is Iron (Wo)man. Oh wait, that's Marvel.
  • Pit is Hawkman. Okay, now I'll stop.
  • And Meta Knight is...um...hrm...The Doctor!!
    • That doesn't make sense, as Meta Knight and Kirby are both Nintendo characters from the get-go. As Kirby shows signs of imitation of Link, who is Batman, when he has a Sword power, Kirby is Robin, and batlike Meta Knight, a darker mentor to Kirby, is Nightwing.
      • No, no, Meta Knight is simply a Kirby who has swallowed a Batman.
  • Wait, since "Toon Link" is the successor to regular Link, that makes him Robin. Kirby would be Green Arrow. Evidence: Green Arrow's arsenal contains a near-infinite assortment of arrows, including boxing glove arrows and bubbly fire-extinguisher arrows, which match up perfectly to Kirby's Fighter and Bubble powers.
    • Alternatively, "Toon Link" is the Terry McGinnis to Link's Bruce Wayne.
      • Kirby is obviously an organic AMAZO.
        • Considering how Kirby is a Warpstar Knight, he may be the analogue of another interplanatary law-enforcement officer- Green Lantern.
          • Which would make Meta Knight one too...
            • To be exact, Meta Knight would be Sinestro.
  • Ganondorf is Darkseid. This is fun!
    • Considering that Ganondorf is Link's arch-enemy, he'd probably be the alternate of a Bat-foe. The only one who fits him, though, would be Bane.
      • Ra's Al Ghul would be a better fit- immortal meglomaniac with a sweet cape (needs to be a trope), and a love of engaging the hero in dramatic climactic swordfights? Obviously, skull-kid is scarecrow, while the Dekus and Gorrons are races progenated by the benevolent counterparts of Posion Ivy and Clayface respectively.
  • Also, Pikachu is Flash.
    • No, Sonic is a Goku/Flash combo-Expy. Pikachu is Static. That's even the name of his ability.
      • Nah, Captain Falcon is Flash. Pikachu is Thor.
        • No. Captain Falcon is god.
  • But doesn't that make Dr. Mario Clark Kent?
  • I kind of want to say that following this logic, the Chosen Four must be the Runaways... but then I remember they're Marvel and I brainfart.
  • And would this make Olimar Squirrel Girl? I mean, a character who uses his many small minions to defeat opponents who are much stronger in canon?
    • No, as she is of Marvel, and Pikmin was a 1st party game. Judging from his ability to command legions of plantlike creatures, who become more powerful by being around him, he's a good alternate version of Poison Ivy, more limited in abilities because Good Is Dumb.
      • He's Poison Ivy IN SPACE who, due to Hocotatian DNA corruption, ended up male and benevolent.
        • Two words: Swamp Thing. Space changed him.
  • Having played sub-space emmissary, and taking the above into account this troper can now confirm that Master Hand is the Monitor, Crazy Hand is the Anti-monitor, and Tabuu is Superboy Prime- he was the protagonist of a game that Nintendo never got around to making (possibly Project H.A.M.M.E.R), and like Superboy-Prime, is taking his revenge on the core universe for his lost chance to be a hero.
  • Luigi... let's see... same powers as Superman/Super Mario, except weaker and faster, with a completely different attitude... would that make him Supergirl? Sheesh, Luigi can't catch a break even in WMG...
    • He could also be Mon-El...
    • I'd suggest Krypto, only now I've got the mental image of Luigi saying, in a London accent, "Oh my God, I'm the caped dog!"
    • He could be Captain Marvel, a thinly-veiled Superman Expy that DC later bought the rights to.
      • The Krypto analogue is most likely Yoshi... Damn it! Now I have the mental image of Yoshi responding to all Mario's instructions with an electronic, slightly camp "YES MASTER".
  • Bowser is a fusion of Pre-crisis Lex Luthor and Doomsday- He has the formers meglomania, and penchant for insane schemes, but not his mad science skills (which seem to have gone to Bowser Junior), and the latters physical power and immortality, but not his adaption abilities (note that lava hurts him in both the original Supermario Bros, and Supermario Galaxy).
    • Which in turn would make Mario's cosmically mischievous, sparsely-appearing foe King Boo Mr. Mxyzptlk!
    • Bowser seems more like a Darkseid to me: "I am many things, Mario - but here, I am a god!"; "I never settle. What I cannot have, I destroy.". Seriously, it writes itself.
  • Solid Snake, then, would be the alternate of John Constantine. Not sure why, but it seems to fit, and puts Snake distinctly outside of normal canon (but within easy reach for a crossover).
  • The Ice Climbers are, of course, the Wonder Twins.
  • Tabuu would be a malevolent Doctor Manhattan... with butterfly wings.
    • And Porky is Ozymandias, Lucas is Nite Owl, and Ness is Rorschach.
      • Tabuu is almost certainly the Anti Monitor.
  • All I want to know is when we're going to see Nintendo VS Mortal Kombat.
  • Since they're both joke characters, would Mr. Game & Watch be Ambush Bug?
    • Maybe Mr. Game & Watch is the incarnate of all pre-Superman comic book characters.
      • Specifically, Mr. Game & Watch is the first comic strip character: Yellow Kid!
      • I say Mr. Game & Watch is Martian Manhunter. He's from another world, he changes shape, doesn't speak much (even by Nintendo standards - he just beeps), and his world (the Game & Watch Series/Black & White 2D simple games) is kind of dead. Plus he doesn't exactly have a place outside of Smash Bros. Alternatively - Elongated/Plastic Man.
  • I guess this makes Mega Man...Optimus Prime? ** Nah, he's an amalgamation of the Metal Men, keeping with the DC theme.
  • Someone really should make this WMG into a webcomic.
  • This troper sorts it out something like this, along with the reasons stated above:
    Mario: Superman
    Luigi: Captain Marvel
    Peach: Lois Lane
    Bowser: Lex Luthor/Doomsday
    Yoshi: Krypto
Wario: Lobo (or Bizarro, seing that Wario is the opposite of Mario)
    Link: Batman
    Toon Link: Batman (Terry)
Zelda: Catwoman (Or Barbara Gordon, with the slower and more intelligence-based Zelda form being Oracle, and the speedier and more physical Shiek being Batgirl)
    Ganondorf: Ra's Al Ghul
    Samus: Wonder Woman
    Star Fox: Green Lanterns
    Wolf: Sinestro
    DK: Green Arrow
    Diddy: Speedy
Mr. Game And Watch: Vintage Superman
    Captain Falcon: Flash
    Kirby: Tim Drake
    Meta Knight: Jason Todd
    Dedede: Penguin
    Pikachu: Static
    Jigglypuff: Shebang
    Pokemon Trainer: Gear
    Lucario: Soul Power
    Marth: Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
    Ike: Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)
Olimar: Martian Manhunter (Or a very, very, very different Poison Ivy)
    Pit: Aquaman
    Ice Climbers: Wonder Twins
    Ness: Hawkgirl
    Lucas: Warhawk
    R.O.B.: Orion
    Sonic: Quicksilver
    Snake: John Constantine
    Tabuu: Anti Monitor
    Master Hand: The Spectre
    Crazy Hand: Parallax
  • Reason for switching: Sonic is faster than captain Falcon in Brawl, similarly Flash is usually depicted as being faster than Quicksilver due to the speed force.
    • However the Sonic/Goku distinction works better IMO because it lampshades his cross continuity rivalry with Superman/Mario. **Lucario could be Ironfist if Marvel characters are included, if not than he could be bronze tiger or some other martial artist. **Kirby matches up almost perfectly with Amazo, Metaknight would be OMAC (or vice versa).
    • Pokemon trainer could be Dr. Will Magnus, and his pokemon are the Metal Men.
    • I don't get the Jigglypuff/She-Bang comparison.
  • No, you guys have it wrong. Link is indeed Batman, but Toon Link is not Terry. In the Batman comics, there was an alternate-universe version of Batman called Bat-Mite who was a big-eyed cartoony thing with a huge head and a small body that did everything Batman did but with an extra "goofy" cartoonish flair. And that is who Toon Link is in the Smashverse.
  • Blanca is The Question.

In response to the DC comics connection above

If Mario is Superman then Sonic is a composite mixture of the Superman clones.

  • Goku
    • Super Sonic transformation similar to Super Saiyan
  • Sentry
    • Dark Sonic form similar to The Void
  • Captain Marvel "Shazam"
    • Manga Sonic was a kid who transformed.
    • Captain Marvel moved from a smaller publisher to DC comics, Sonic primarily makes Nintendo games. But in the past they were rivals to the other company.

Lucario is a Saiyan.

No, he is not a Pokemon. Even in the Pokemon universe, he secretly belongs to a race of Saiyans. Seriously, Just look at his final smash.

  • If so, he must be Sonic's minion, as he has never been able to become a Super Saiyan as Sonic does.
  • Lucario replaced Mewtwo by killing him in a seven-episode-long battle, after he discovered that Mewtwo was related to Frieza, the destroyer of the Saiyan homeworld.
  • If you guys are just kidding, sorry, but SERIOUSLY. He was just VOICE-acted by Vageta. And the aura....

Mewtwo is Frieza.

Both have a white/whitish and purple color scheme, both use telekinesis, both are uber powerfull, they both have tails.... Coincidence? I think NOT!

  • And he was replaced by Lucario who is similar to -and voice acted by the same person as-Goku.
    • Alt theory...he could be another one of Frieza's race.

Tabuu isn't evil.

This is actually the basis for a Fanfiction I want to write at some point with alot of alternate dimension stuff, so watch out for brainfarts.

Tabuu is from an alternate universe, where instead of there being a creative and a destructive, Tabuu is both at once. Since this is an alternate version of the Brawl universe, all the characters in this alternate world are similar but different. Maybe he's a Nintendo fan, or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Whatever the case, Crazy Hand makes the subspace dimension, which explains it's destructive power, and uses it as a bridge between dimensions. Crazy heads into Tabuu's world and forces him into subpspace, then closes the portal behind him, explaining why Crazy isn't in the Brawl storyline.

Then Tabuu appropriately goes mad and uses subspace to get revenge by destroying what he thinks is Crazy's universe, in a way, he chose the right place, but destroying it would only make Crazy happier. Anyway, Tabuu starts his evil plan to destroy Crazy's own personal world using the power of the subspace dimension, and meanwhile Crazy is tearing his universe into confetti. The reason why Tabuu doesn't destroy things, and instead creates the "great maze" is because he's trying to rebuild his own universe. Of course, the Heroes trophify/destroy him, and before Subspace closes, Crazy returns through it. Essentially dooming a entire universe forever with his power.

Crazy just destroyed a universe and got away with it. While Tabuu tried to BUILD one and got destroyed.

Bet you feel a bit guilty now.

  • Nnnope.
  • But since the characters obviously have some sort of communication (how else did Lucario and Meta Knight convince Snake to help them?), Tabuu should have been able to explain. They knew Crazy Hand was missing, so that part, at least, was believable. Furthermore, why didn't he just steal building materials from the various worlds?
    • For the second question: He kinda was. For the first: Since we're assuming the smashers communicate without talking, then we don't know if Tabuu was doing the same, and the Smashers just didn't care.
  • He didn't bother to try explaining himself, he made evil clones, was the man behind various villains, and there's the whole "mass slaughter of R.O.B.s via Subspace Bomb detonation" bit. Yeah, I still enjoyed beating him down.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are controlled by the next evolution of Wham Bam Rock.

First we had Wham Bam Rock in Kirby Super Star, with stone hands that did a lot of the things that Master Hand does, swatting smashing, grabbing, etc. Then in Kirby Super Star Ultra, we get Wham Bam Jewel, who upgrades to using Master-Hand style finger gun moves and such. He will most likely continue to escalate his form until he reaches a godlike amount of power, perhaps with a wish from NOVA, and become Wham Bam Master.

Master and Crazy Hand are the Mirror Universe versions of Wham Bam Rock.

In a parallel to the above, we see Master and Crazy Hand in the Mirror World in Kirby: The Amazing Mirror. The Mirror World has opposite copies of several Kirby characters: Kirby himself, Meta Knight, and Whispy Woods (King Golem) to name a few. Wham Bam Rock is a deity-looking stone idol with unattatched hands made of stone. Master and Crazy hand are deities with perfectly humanlike hands. Both have very similar attack patterns, although Wham Bam tends to use falling stones more then lasers. Just close enough to be fitting, and yet worlds apart in implementation.

Tabuu is Doctor Manhattan.

Blue, bald, terrifyingly powerful. Doctor Manhattan states his intention to create humanity before leaving at the end of Watchmen. Tabuu creates the Primids. Possibly, the long, lonely trip through space has made him insane, possiby to the point of halucinations and delirium, hence the destruction the Subspace Army causes and the aggression towards the player characters.

  • If only Rorschach had timed his dodges right...
  • Actually he's a program written by Dr Manhattan, which is why he looks kinda like him, because Tron looked like his creator too.
  • If he was Manhattan, that does raise the question of what happened to his... y'know... I mean, Tabuu's naked as Manhattan always is, but he doesn't have the parts. Did he cut them off or something?

Nintendo and Microsoft are secretly allied.

They plan to take down Sony by hoarding all the good games, splitting them between each other. The fact that the Xbox is releasing Katamari Damacy and Metal Gear Solid games only serve to confirm this.

This really doesn't belong here, but the other place I have it is hard to find.

The SSB world is a Crapsack World.

Think about it. They are all kept as slaves, only released out of their trophy forms to fight in front of thousands as entertainment. The SSE is the chronicle of their escape, and SSE army is trying to reclaim them back.

SSE is a parable encouraging harmlessly weird hobbies.

Master Hand is still the avatar for a collector of Nintendo trophies, but he isn't a child anymore. He's a grown man, and pressure from the outside world, represented by Tabuu, has made him try to break with his "childish" past. He stops displaying his collection in his living room, starting with the princesses; eventually, he gets into a shouting contest with a close friend about his hobby, set off by the Ganondorf trophy. The friend says that such things are childish and that he should focus on more adult things. At this point he gives up and puts the whole collection in storage.

Some time later, he finds the King Dedede, Ness, and Luigi trophies. Hit with waves of nostalgia, he decides to look into the online presence of trophy collectors and finds a surprisingly active and friendly community - people the same age as him, even. He's finally inspired to bring the collection out of storage by someone whose favourite trophy is Sonic. He gets into further arguments now and then, but Tabuu's wings have been clipped, and Master Hand shines even brighter for it.

In the Brawlverse, King Dedede is a pimp.

  • Evidence 1: 3 of his costumes are stereotypical "pimp colours" (Pink, Baby blue and Purple) and his normal outfit is red which means he flys the flags of a Blood. He also has the Playboy logo on the back of his Pimp coat.
  • Evidence 2: When he trophyfies Luigi, which is his way of making you a hoe he gives him a pimp slap, to show him who's boss.
  • Evidence 3: He puts two buttons on Ness and Luigi but sacrifices his own to put in on a Princess, because they would generate the most profit.
  • Evidence 4: In the SSE lives in the Playboy Mansion.
  • Evidence 5: When Bowser wrecks Dedede's mansion Dedede looks up and just let's a huge concrete block knock him out, obviously because he smoked one too many doobies and it messed up his reflexes.
  • Evidence 6: As soon as all the fighters are beaten by Tabuu the badges activate because that means he was not one to buy the services of his ladies.
  • Evidence 7: He pimp slaps Bowser in the face, which automatically makes Bowser shut up, evidence of a strong Pimp hand.
  • Evidence 8: He throws his hoes at you.
    • Okay, that made me crack up. Hoe-Throw attack...

The Crazy Hand is the kid's wanking Hand.

  • Which is why he is crazy.
    • That doesn't sound right to me- That's about the age you stop playing with toys. Unless this kid has some weird, weird interests.... Rule 34 and all that... But if that were true, the game wouldn't be about Nintendo Characters fighting.
      • Which is why he doesn't show up until Melee- at which point the kid has entered middle school and is having trouble putting away his toys/experiencing an awkward sexual awakening. By the time he's in high school, he's done with the toys and has settled for writing Nintendo crossover fanfiction (SSE), which in turn explains why Crazy Hand doesn't show up in SSE.
      • Somehow, the introduction of Zero Suit Samus in Brawl, along with Zelda's more realistic design, only reinforces that for me.
      • This goes along perfectly with the concept of Master Hand and Crazy Hand being the hands of Christian Weston Chandler.

Tabuu is a program created by Master Xehanort.

  • They look exactly alike Tabuu has the neon glow. Also helps that Tron has been a world in Kingdom Hearts II. And that the two games happen to share a scenario writer. This, of course, has the supplementary WMG that Brawl is in fact a game on Ansem's computer network, because his apprentices loved to have late night Smash Bros. marathons.
    • This troper now imagines Xehanort, Lord of The Heartless, using Dark-Toon Link in a game against Sora, who's using Kirby... hilarious.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are Rayman.

They have no visible support. They're like white gloves. They're right and left. Yeah. They're Rayman.

The whole "the Smashers exist only to fight" in the backstory is simply an allegory for their status as video game characters.

Lucas came to our world and became famous.

OK, first, consider the character of Lucas himself. His name is Lucas, his symbol is a planet, his hairstyle is... well, let's say it's distinctive, and he fights with a mystical energy that surrounds us all. He comes from the world of Earthbound / Mother, which has very strong ties to alien mythology, so we know he was exposed to that kind of story from an early age.

Next, Lucas gets thrust into the Smashverse. There, he's a young kid who is not very corageous, but in the Subspace Emissary he learns to man up and do the right thing for the common good after Ness cares for him, and he decides to go on an adventure to avenge him.

In the Smashverse, he also learns (and meets, of course) a group of people devoted to protecting a huge multiverse from a tyrannical ruler. These people (the other smash characters; Mario, Link, Samus, etc.) have extraordinary abilities, but they're up against a group with similar abilities that uses them for evil. Also, note that there are many more good guys than bad guys in the Smashverse.

OK, now fast-forward to After the End of the Subspace Emissary, when everything has been saved. Lucas, now an expert at leaping from universe to universe, comes to our world, where he grows into an adult. He still has fond memories of all his adventures as a child, but realizes that in this world nobody would accept them as truth. So he writes the whole thing over again, changing the setting and a couple of names, and so it comes to pass that Lucas, first name George, creates a pop culture phenomenon.

See, in Star Wars, Luke, who is obviously another name for Lucas, has blond hair and lives a simple life until Empire agents attacks the Lars Homestead. This is exactly what happened to Lucas; he was a blond-haired kid who led a simple life until an agent of the Empire, in this case Wario, attacked and "killed" someone he cared for, thus sending Lucas on a quest to avenge him.

In Star Wars, the main villain is a tall guy in black who wears a long flowing cape, but then turns out to be controlled by a hunched and even more evil figure who was controlling everything from behind the scenes. Ganondorf obviously translated into Darth Vader, whereas Tabuu was the Emperor.

The "good guys" in the Smashverse translated into the Jedi Council, whereas the "bad guys" became the Sith. Notice that in the Star Wars universe, there are only ever two Sith, the master and the apprentice. This is exactly the same as in the Smashverse; Ganondorf serves Tabuu (or his puppet the Master Hand), but there are many subordinates doing their dirty work, such as Wario and Bowser. Bowser in particular is clearly General Grievous, because he transforms his victims into trophies and then uses their "evil trophies" for his own good. General Grievous steals and uses the lightsabers of fallen Jedi.

I rest my case.

  • Even though this is about the most far-fetched thing I have ever read I congratulate the troper who created this for having such an imagination.
    • Why, thank you! I wrote a more extended joke essay where I plotted out both stories directly, noting the similarities, ("coincidence!? I think not!") and gave every Smash character a Star Wars expy that matches, but that's too long to put it up here.
  • First, I want to say that was awesome. Second, there is some kind of thing that you can put long things into on this site. Like it's a little button that says "long" and when you click it, it expands and your long essay or whatever is inside. I'm not sure how to make one though. If you look on the Super Mario Bros. page, I think you can see some and just edit to see how to make it.
  • Ganondorf is Darth Vader? Ganondorf? To say nothing of his brother?

Tabuu was created from an unintentional crossover of the Nintendo verse and the Square Enix verse.

The Heartless were invading the Tron world when some sort of universal shift occured, spawning several powerful Noise. These Heartless/Noise possessed/attacked a computer program, which was written into the Nintendo verse. Thus we have Tabuu, who looks like a Tron program, creates creatures that look suspiciously like Heartless, and has Noise-like wings.

The Home Run Bat is the Casey Bat from EarthBound.

It's a baseball bat with supreme power tempered by the fact that it's wildly inaccurate, missing at least 75% of the time due to the slowness of the smash (or SMAAAAASH) attack.

Master Hand, Crazy Hand and Tabuu are actually Dante, Trish and Lady respectively.

  • Perhaps it was a VERY slow business night, no jobs needing doing and what have you. So they perhaps got some action figures out of Dante's secret drawer, figures which Dante and Vergil used to play with when they were kids. Call it killing time. And since this is DANTE we're talking about here, awesome can only ensue.

Master Hand, Crazy Hand and Tabuu are Terry Bogard, Ryo Sakazaki and Kyo Kusanagi respectively.

They're having a fight to see who becomes SNK's mascot.

Master Hand, Crazy Hand and Tabuu are really a Time Lord, Shinji Ikari, and Haruhi Suzumiya.

Because nobody has mentioned it yet.

  • Further up the page. You could have looked before spewing your tired old unfunny memes, y'know.
    • I like you editor-who-doesn't-like-these-stupid-TV Tropes-WMG-memes. You've got my approval. Not you, Meme-spewer. Exactly how would that work? That's right: it wouldn't. Stupid memes.
    • And I think you're both being jerks over something harmless. And, moreover, they're not already here. Maybe you could've look before you started bitching.

The Void of Super Paper Mario and Subspace are one in the same.

They both exist between realities, have a purple-black color scheme, eat worlds, have a theme of overall emptiness, and a slight Cosmic Horror Story feel if you think about it for a while.

  • And also Luigi's negative zone.

Suda51 created the graphics for the subspace emissary

Suda51 of Killer7 and No More Heroes was the one who did the graphics for the subspace emissary, specifically the purple world eating blob things. Killer 7 had similar effects when an enemy was shot. Suda51's name is in the credits.

The Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Tabuu are all elements of the kid's personality.

Master Hand is the side of him that likes creation and is responsible for creating the smash universe, Crazy hand is the destructive side of his personality that makes him want to force his trophies to fight over and over, and Tabuu is the side of him that knows how weird his hobby is. The Subspace Emissary is a metaphor for when he decides to put up his trophies for good (represented by Tabuu defeating Master Hand), but eventually deciding to bring them all out of storage.

The stages of all three games were brought to Smash World by way of Subspace Bombs.

Sections of Mushroom Kingdon, Hyrule, Planet Zebes, etc. (and Alaska) were pulled into Subspace by RO Bs with Subspace Bombs. You get ring outs when you touch the walls of the bubbles they're in. This is also why the Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule look different in every game they've appeared in.

The Smashers are professional wrestlers.

Nintendo's characters came together and decided to get into wrestling, creating fictional characters and storylines for themselves; they aren't really enemies, just faces and heels.

  • This is why they all have grabs and holds.
  • Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, Pichu, Roy, and Young Link retired their characters.
  • And why matches only end by ring outs? Because instead of staging mat wrestling or mixed martial arts, the Nintendo characters decided to be different and stage over the top sumo wrestling.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are YOUR HANDS!

  • My hands do not shoot out lasers and bullet bills, thank you very much!
    • Mine do, if I drink 2,000,000 truckloads of redbull.

Tabuu is Cyrus reincarnated..

  • He wants to reshape the world to his liking.
  • ROBs are completely expendable, and not part of his New World.
  • Mr. Game & Watches are just weapons.
  • Everything was created for Tabuu.

The Subspace Emissary is a Take That to Modern Gaming.

It explains why the landscape is so bland, most of the music is over-the-top orchestrations, a lot of epic character moments, and tons of gunplay action. It also explains why Mario, Link, Samus, Snake, and Kirby had such enormous roles, since they were characters from The Eighties, in which gaming wasn't about spectacular graphics or high-end commercializing, but simply about goofing around and having fun. However, it also mocks really old gaming, as ROB and Mr. Game & Watch are villains.

  • You call those backgrounds bland?
  • Kirby's first video game appearance was in 1992 - but then again, his first game was on the Game Boy, and gaming wasn't really about amazing graphics in the early '90s either...

Master Hand is actually Will Wright, and he's trapped in subspace.

Think about it. Japan created Pac-Man, Mario, Metal Gear, Mother, and Pokémon, all games spanning different genres and stories, where as the only thing Americans created were games like Halo, Spyro, Space Invaders, and many other games in which all you basically did was kill things. However, Will Wright was one of the very few on the west that could impress the Japanese because the games he made were mostly built around creating things, like cities, families, and even cute little critters. Hence since Wright like to create universes, he was "reincarnated" in the game world as Master Hand. However, the Nintendo characters feared his presence because while he did manage to create, he could also destroy.

So by the time we're in the Subspace Emissary, Tabuu is actually the representation of what American gamers want; to create havoc upon various worlds. However, because Master Hand (Wright) was able to earn some appreciation and respect with the characters (the different parts of the world), and Tabuu just controled Master Hand to convince whoever wanted to pay attention that creating subspace zones were "creating things". This of course would lead the other characters to notice that something was dreadfully wrong, and well, it explains why people like Mario a lot again...

  • One problem: Dr Wright's assist trophy.

Master Hand, Crazy Hand and Tabuu are Wild Dog, Arche Klein and Shao Kahn respectively.

  • Smash Bros doesn't HAVE to make sense.
    • Furthermore, WMG's don't have to make sense.

Tabuu is secretly Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

SSE is the Doctor Who universe, in which the Doctor has turned evil.

OK, here we go, because we don't have a detailed example yet- Tabuu is the Doctor, turned evil for some reason yet to be explained, and Master Hand is the Master under his control, just as he initially intended. The Shadow Bugs are an alternate form of the Toclafane. The ROBs are an as-yet unknown hybrid of a Cyberman and a Dalek, making Ganondorf a physically superior Davros who does not need a wheelchair. Kirby is the Abzorbaloff. Ridley is a Reaper/Chronovore. Sonic is the meta-crisis doctor (all in blue, of course) who has dimension jumped to stop Tabuu. The Halberd is the Valiant. The actual world of SSE is Wales, the floating island is just Cardiff, and subspace is the rift. The Halberd is the Vanguard. Captain Falcon is actually Captain Jack, and Olimar is Ianto, and the other 'mercenaries' (Fox, Falco, Snake, Samus) are other members of Torchwood. Zelda is Gwen Cooper, and Link (Rhys) is accepting of her undercover persona Sheik. The Pokemon are all soldiers in UNIT, mooks that do their master's bidding. Peach is Sarah Jane Smith, and Mario is a humanoid form created for Mr. Smith. Yoshi is K9, and Luigi is actually the Trickster. That's all I can think of for now, but feel free to add more...

  • Alternativly, SSE is a Doctor Who/Stargate crossover: Tabuu is the Valeyard; The Doctor Ascended to A Higher Plane of Existence after his final regeneration (Daniel Jackson); Samus is a regeneration of the Doctor's daughter (can't remember her name), who at an earlier point regenerated into Sam Carter; Snake is actually the result of noodle incident involving Jack O'Neill, the Jack mini-me/clone made by Loki, and Todd; ROB is in fact Dalek Caan; King De De De is Merlin; Ganondorf is a much younger Davros; Pit, Mr. Game & Watch, and Sonic are Timelords who opposed James Bond; the other Smashers or Tok'ra of the Wheeping Angels/SG Team members/Companions; and all the mooks and elite mooks are (evil)Time Lords/Daleks/Cybermen/Gou'ald/Wraith/(evil)Asgard; The Island of the Ancients did in fact belong to the Ancients (why the hell do you think it was full of Subspace Bombs?!)

The Brawl-verse is Subcon.

Ever wondered why Subspace exists? The Subspace in SMB2 and the Subspace in Brawl are one and the same. The entire world in Brawl is the dream world twisted by Master Hand/Tabuu to put his plan into action. All the fighters are dream versions of themselves.

"The Kid" who is playing with his toys as Master/Crazy Hand is, in fact, The Kid.

He's playing with his toys in elaborate mock battles as part of his training to be The Guy.

  • Right, except for the fact that there not a single shred of evidence to support this anywhere in either game. Or maybe it's the fact that the first Super Smash Brothers game came out years before I Wanna Be The Guy was released, let alone conceived!
    • Dude. This page has an attempt to translate the cast into the DC universe and about at least two claims that Haruhi is involved, and this is the one you complain about? Near the bottom of the page, no less.
      • Yes, it's true that SSB came out before I Wanna Be The Guy...but again, The Kid was doing it in preparation. By the time IWBTG is released, it's already time for The Kid to go out and be The Guy. So what was he doing before it was time? That's right. Preparing.
  • The Kid is young Jak.
  • No, no, The Kid is Mr. Mew.

Super Smash Bros. is Smosh. Master Hand is Anthony Padilla, Crazy Hand is Ian Hecox, and Tabuu is the Teleporting Fat Guy.

Anthony could be Master Hand because in most videos, he seems smarter and more creative than Ian, and Master Hand is smarter and more creative than Crazy Hand. Also, it is not easy to pressure him into doing things (in "Going to the Mountains," it was said he is immune to peer pressure), but if someone forces him to do something (Tabuu forcing Master Hand to do his bidding), he will do it. This would also explain why Master Hand would rule over a land where figurines come to life, as Anthony's favorite movie is Toy Story.

Ian is Crazy Hand because in most videos (especially Food Battle 2008), he seems very angry and destructive, but not very smart.

When the Teleporting Fat Guy teleports with his Nintendo Power Glove, there is a flash of light that is almost the same color as Tabuu. Perhaps his Power Glove malfunctioned and trapped him in Subspace in a form made of hard blue light. Over the years, he could have grown angry at Nintendo for creating the Power Glove that trapped him there, so he decided he would trap all of Nintendo's characters and their world in Subspace.

  • Jossed. Super Smash Bros. has genuinely funny moments.

Sonic was sent by Crazy Hand, who had no knowledge of King Dedede's Xanatos Roulette.

As many have noticed (This Troper included), Crazy Hand was suspiciously absent for the entire run of SSE. There were no hints of his presence, even though his brother/alter-ego/crazier opposing force of nature/other half/whatever spent the entire game forced under Tabuu's servitude via Chains of Light. Then came the (somewhat) unexpected Just in Time Big Damn Hedgehog moment from Sonic...

Crazy Hand is definitely one unhinged character. His Evil Laugh instead comes off as Laughing Mad and his fingers twitch ad infinitum, unlike the more composed stance of Master Hand. Although many of his moves ramp up the crazy factor (to the point that he "spider walks" and has hand spasms that create seismic waves), Crazy Hand is more of a threat than Master Hand.

When Master Hand was captured by Tabuu, Crazy Hand went into hiding. Sensing that all of the heroes were trophified by Tabuu's Off Waves (and not knowing of the Dedede Brooches), Crazy Hand searched for any other possible heroes that could help turn the tides. The call was answered by Sonic, a free spirit who won't stand by when evil is afoot. Apparently, Wolf, Toon Link, and Jigglypuff couldn't be bothered, because the former two were out on an adventure and the latter was too busy practicing for a concert (that probably wouldn't even happen if Tabuu had his way). After pointing Sonic in the right direction (i.e. Subspace) and sending the Blue Blur on his way, Crazy Hand laid low again. After all, if Tabuu were to find him, he'd have control of both the forces of Order and Chaos. And well, that would suck. Luckily, Dedede's Xanatos Roulette only served to bolster Crazy Hand's plan, as Sonic then teamed-up with the revived heroes and finally vanquished Tabuu, thus reuniting Crazy Hand with his brother.

Long story short, Obfuscating Insanity at its finest.

The "original" enemies in the Subspace Emissary are alternate universe versions of enemies from other games.

Glires and Roaders resemble Flamers and Wheelies from the Kirby series. Shellpods may look like giant beetles, but in every other way they could be related to Koopa Troopas. And if the Ticken -- a robot chicken that falls to bits and releases a tiny bird when you destroy it -- isn't a reference to the Sonic series, I don't know what is.

    • I didn't even know that the puppits weren't ripped straiht out of Twilight Princess when I saw them. And the location where they appear is suspiciously similar to the Sacred Grove, complete with dimension doors to parallel the time door.

Pichu is the offspring of Pikachu.

(Original title was "Pichu is the offspring of Pikachu and Jigglypuff")

Or maybe I'm just a sucker for romance in a fighting game. Go figure.

  • Actually, that does make a lot of sense.
  • ...but by Pokemon rules, it means the original Pikachu would have to have been female, and Jigglypuff male.
  • Pikachu/Ditto anyone? I'm writing a fic to "celebrate" HGSS and Generation V. Consider this: Pikachu is top tier in SSB64, as well as second tier in Pokemon battles, but only when holding the Light Ball... which is needed to get a Pichu Volt Tackle. By breeding with a Ditto (or another Pikachu or Raichu) Pikachu could be Pichu's father.
    • As a follow up to the above, Pikachu is based on Ash's Pikachu from the anime, which wasn't confirmed male until after Melee came out, but before Brawl. Therefore, Pikachu in SSB 64/SSBM could have been female.
    • Considering Pikachu's Final Smash is Volt Tackle, which only Pichu can get (through breeding), this makes a bit of sense.
      • Except the Pichu in Melee is from second-gen. Volt Tackle didn't exist then.

The Subspace Emissary storyline originally had Master Hand weakening Tabuu so the other fighters could beat him.

The real reason Sonic is absent for so much of Subspace Emissary is because he was a very late addition to the game, stuck in when most of the story had already been completed and introducing him earlier would have necessitated throwing out a huge chunk of what was already present. However, based on events leading up to the final battle, it's pretty clear that someone or something needs to weaken Tabuu in some way to make it defeatable.

Master Hand features prominently in the storyline, even though you never get to fight it. Its corpse is clearly visible when the character enter Tabuu's inner sanctum, so it seems like the writers originally intended it to play some role in the final battle. Furthermore, Master Hand is the only non-Tabuu antagonist whose name appears on-screen in a cutscene that doesn't team up with the heroes in the final battle. Rather suspicious.

There's also the fact that, well, even after being defeated by Tabuu, we can still see Master Hand's corpse. In all three games, when a player character defeats Master Hand, it sort of crumples up, withers, and fades away. This suggests that the corpse we see is still alive, but unconscious, perhaps because Tabuu still had some use for it.

Thus, it seems likely that the original script called for Master Hand to turn out to be Not Quite Dead, and use its lasers to cut Tabuu's wings, likely being incapacitated again by Tabuu at this point. When Sonic was added, the least disruptive way to stick him into the story was to cut Master Hand's final scene and let Sonic do it instead.

  • This explains why Sonic can suddenly become a laser beam. They probably just let players assume that it was just Sonic at high speed; in reality, it could have been an attack from Master Hand, with Sonic noises edited in.

The Pikachu in the origninal game died of old age prior to Brawl.

This is an extension of the earlier theory about the Pichu in Melee evolving. Basically, the Pikachu was in his prime during the original SSB, but, being a rodent, ages fairly quickly, and was on his last legs in Melee, explaining the significant nerf. Sometime between Melee and Brawl, he finally passed away, and the producers decided to evolve the Pichu from Melee and hope nobody noticed. Unfortunately, that required a Trainer to bond with, per how Pichu evolves in the Pokemon games, and after evolving, the now-Pikachu didn't want to leave the nice Trainer. As a compromise, they made him a character in Brawl.

  • That or the nice Trainer is Samus, which dovetails nicely into the storyline.
  • Pikachu have lived for 50+ years in canon. That makes this theory rather unlikely.

Most of the stages in the series are Dissidia versions of the characters' worlds.

Ever wondered why Luigi's Mansion is located on a floating island in the sky, unlike the actual game? The same goes with stages such as the original's Peach's Castle stage.

  • Because they a table top the toys/trophies fight on modeled to look like a game world?

The world of Super Smash Bros. is only a small subsect of the MUGEN universe.

I think the title speaks for itself...

Master Hand will return and seek revenge.

In the next game's story mode, Crazy Hand will somehow get into Subspace and rescue Master Hand, who wasn't really dead, just unconscious and stranded. Master Hand will be angry that the characters who fought Tabuu did not find time to save Master Hand from Subspace, and he will create armies to get his revenge.

Tires don exits.

Or at least they're not supposed to. Except for Pichu being a Joke Character.

Porky and his statue in this game are robots or Shadow bug clones.

This would explain him actually being here, as he trapped himself in the Absolutely Safe Capsule for the rest of time. Tabuu likely found out about him somehow, and not being able to bring the real thing to fight for him, had a substitute made. This could also explain why he doesn't look like the Mother 3 Porky, the details weren't gotten quite right.

The Smash Brothers series is canon with all the series that cross over into it, and it is set in the Nintendo Universe's equivilent of Doctor Who's Death Zone.

Master Hand occasionally plucks several heros out of time and space and places them into the Nintendo Death Zone in order to enjoy watching them fight, and then decides to fight them himself. As he is fond of the heros and recognises them as such he will always allow them to defeat him in battle and is never truely defeated. Tabuu and The Subspace Army then decided to invade the Nintendo Death Zone, this is because Tabuu how aquired the chains of light which were powerful enough to contain Master Hand and he wished to have control over it. Also the 'plucked from time' aspect also explains a few things, firstly Young Link and regular Link in Melee were both taken from the two time zones in Ocerina of Time. Toon Link and regular Link from Brawl were taken from The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (as somehow, he can reach into numerous timelines). Mario is taken out of the events of Super Mario Sunshine in Brawl which is how he can have FLUDD on his back (even though FLUDD died). Wario's two alternate outfits are two versions of him from different times, Wario in his regular outfit is from his early appearances and in his Wario Ware outfit from the events of one of those games. Dr. Mario was taken from the time of the game of the same name and this is why he and Mario can appear at the same time. The reason that at the start of the game Mario is seen as a trophy and is then thrown into the arena before coming to life is as follows: In Doctor Who, with the arrival of a new Doctor in the Death Zone, the villian of the story recieved a small model of this Doctor which he placed onto a map where he wanted them to be. In the Nintendo Universe it doesn't quite work the same, and when they are brought into the Death Zone they initially appear as a giant trophy. Master Hand assures that the deaths of 'heros' are not permenant by turning somebody into the, easily revivable, trophy form the second they would due, he does this as if they were to die in the Death Zone it would be too damaging to the timeline. This also explains Sonic's appearance at the end of Brawl's storyline, Master Hand was free from his chains at this point and so decided that he would pluck another hero out of time in order for them to defeat Tabuu. Finally, just like Doctor Who, when they are returned to their original place in time and Space, their memory is erased of the events which is why they are never refered to outside of the Smash Brothers series!

Tabuu is a Friend; Subspace is the Other Side.

He's second in command to Chernabog. Just like the other Friends, he brings evil into the world by remotely manipulating other villains.

Captain Falcon is a Blaziken in disguise.

Think about it! All Pokemon in Smash Bros. have 4 true Pokemon moves between their Special moves and their Final Smashes. What are Captain Falcon's special moves? Neutral Special is a powerful punch that requires time to charge, and if the opponent attacks while it charges, it fails. Sounds like Focus Punch, doesn't it? His Side Special, when it connects, is a flaming punch, but not nearly as powerful as Focus Punch. Clearly this is Fire Punch. As for his Up Special, it seems like a Seismic Toss with a bit of flaming mixed in. And the clincher? His Down Special is a flaming kick. Obviously Blaze Kick! What Pokemon learns all these attacks and is famous for Blaze Kick? Blaziken.

  • What about Infernape? It can learn all those moves too.
    • It's Captain FALCON. Blaziken is bird-like.

Tabuu is actually a criminal who broke into Master Hand's house.

He ran in with a gun and held Master Hand hostage, forcing him to preform acts to benefit his needs. The person symbolizing Crazy Hand then proceeds to roundhouse him in the face and start fighting him until he falls down. Combine this with my above 'Nicholas and Tara' mini-theory for a better effect.

Sonic had never left subspace before the game.

For the sake of argument, this assumes that MH creates the trophies, imbuing them with the powers and memories of the original characters, then puts them in the World of Trophies to live their lives. He had just finished making Sonic when Tabuu grabbed him for his evil plan. Sonic wakes up in Subspace, not knowing where he is or how he got there, and wanders around for a bit until stumbling upon Tabuu and the others having a final battle.

The reason Luigi's Final Smash looks so weird is that, thankfully, You Cannot Grasp the True Form.

It's Luigi in a dress which, if rendered in full 3D with the Wii's capabilties, would shatter the minds of every Smash player who witnessed it.

Whoever programmed the minigame at the end of Brawl's Classic and All-Star modes really hates the in-game franchises.

You're shooting at the in-game characters. Enough said.

  • ...you're shooting at the trophies and their pictures. Not the actual characters.

SSE is canon to the Pokéverse, taking place within Red/Green/Blue.

Just think of it. Red starts with Squirtle and later catches an Ivysaur and Charizard. He could have easily caught Pikachu after SSE, and he uses all four of them in the battle with him in G/S/C/HG/SS.

  • Official artwork and ingame data implies his starter was a Bulbasaur in Gen 1 and a Charmander as of Gen 2, though.

Alternatively, SSE takes place within a Generation III/IV counterpart of Pokémon Yellow.

Red's starter was Melee Pikachu, who he raised the happiness of by spamming vitamins on her (remember, potions don't work at full health in Gen II and later.) Since Pikachu's happiness was so high, the girl in Cerulean City gave Red a Bulbasaur, but it ran away and evolved into Ivysaur, and was later captured during SSE. Squirtle was caught via the Mew glitch as Pikachu's Special Attack stat (the equivalent of the Gen I Special stat) was 177 as Pikachu was at level 89. Red then leveled Pikachu up three more times and Mew glitched again to reach ghost Missingno which increased his supply of Rare Candies to 128. He then bred Pikachu (who was holding a Light Ball) with a Ditto and hatched Melee Pichu, who eventually evolved into Brawl Pikachu after being fed a bunch of glitched Rare Candies.

Team Rocket later stole a Snag Machine and captured both Pikachu.

Red appears in the intro to the first game

The guy that walks by while Pikachu is rolling on a Pokeball. His shoes don't seem to match though..

The World of Trophies is a reward for characters who have proved themselves popular enough.

When the heroes in the various worlds prove themselves popular enough, Master Hand, the embodiment of creativity, thus something that inspires the imagination enough would appeal to him, brings them to his world as reward. Justification: In the World of Trophies, most characters are pretty much immortal, they just get turned into trophies that can be revived in an instant by another character. The heroes can do as much good as they want and fight each other to prove themselves to one another, or just for fun, and they can go all out on the villains without a second thought because they can't kill them. Meanwhile, the villains can actually WIN and not pay for it, the heroes just get revived so they won't get bored from missing their rival, the world doesn't end ether, so that's nice. The non-Smasher bosses (other than the ones Tabuu made himself) are simply there to keep the Smashers entertained, and are brought back if killed. Master Hand is stated to wait for them to fight him, which is to test their power.

Tabuu is an out of control creation of Master Hand.

See above point. Master Hand creates challenges to keep the Smashers and himself entertained. He got bored with the existing villains so in the first game, he revived Bowser as Giga Bowser for something new. Then, when Giga Bowser got boring, he gave the power to normal Bowser and started on something new. He made Tabuu but made him too powerful, so Tabuu turned on him and decided to conquer Master Hand's domain for himself.

The reason why Snake says he doesn't like Sonic in his codec message...

Before Sonic was confirmed, Snake was the only non-Nintendo character in Brawl, thus recieving glory and attention. When Sonic was confirmed, Snake was no longer the only non-Nintendo character, meaning Sonic took some (or more) of the limelight.

After the events of Melee, Young link, and therefore the Adult Link from the Ocarina of Time timeline were murdered by Ben. Being replaced by the Links from the Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker timelines.

If you take in mind that each game's Link is a different person and that the Smash Bros universe is a Crisis Crossover then it makes sense that Link encounters his younger self and Links from alternate realities created by the Ocarina of Time. But then, why aren't the Ocarina of Time versions of Link no longer present in Brawl? Well, Young Link set out in his quest to find his friend and ends up in Termina, which itself is an alternate universe to Hyrule which has counterparts of evry person of Link's universe. Ben is this universe's Link, manifesting itself as a statue when Link plays the Elegy of Emptiness, which reveals the true nature of his soul. There seems to be an alignment revearsal too, with the Dekus being, while not outwardly friendly, civvilized and lawful and the Happy Mask Man being rather creepy compared to his Hyrule counterpart and often speculated to be evil. So Termina's Link, Ben, is the complete opposite, instead of a warrior of light who brings salvation, Ben is a horrifying dimensional warper destined to ultimately destroy Termina.

Being bound to Link's soul the moment he entered Termina, Ben forces Link's unconcious to produce a temporal anomaly (known to us as the Fourth Day glitch) that would free himself from Link's soul and allow him to get Majora out of the way. After torturing Link, Ben removes Young Link from existance, which in effecr also destroy's Adult Link and his universe , for Young Link no longer exists to open the gates of The Temple Of Time and pull out the Master Sword. Master Hand got notice of the death of both Links and the possibility of Ben spreading across the Multiverse if he ever linked Termina to the Smash Bros Universe again, so he cut off Termina from Brawl and replaced the old Link with two Links from different timelines to prevent a time paradox from destroying another Universe. Master Hand also replaced the Zelda from the Destroyed universe but since Ganon had nobody to stop him in Young Link's universe (Which ended up in the Great Flood which gave birth to the Wind Waker timeline) and The Ganon from the future being sealed by the sages into another dimension, saving him from the Destruction of his Universe (to be later released back in Twilight Pribcess)), The Ganon we see in Brawl, is the same Ganon we see in Melee. That's right folks Ganondorf exploited Ben's actions to his advantage.

Smash Balls are the exploded remains of Tabuu.

Tabuu is light blue and glowy, with some other colors thrown in when he uses a technique, like gold-ish. Smash balls are light blue and glowy, and the character who catches it's eyes turn gold-ish until it uses its Final Smash. Therefore, they must be related. LOGIC.

  • But if that was so, wouldn't the smash balls have the subspace symbol instead of the smash symbol?
  • Not if he's dead. What is the smash symbol anyway? The symbol of the non-subspace world? Maybe they were imprinted with it when he went blooey and bits of him fled through the recreated parts of the world.

Capcom will make their own Smash game.

Think about it. Capcom probably has the most recognized characters besides Nintendo. I Capcom were to make a Smash game featuring characters from the various Mega Man series, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Dead Rising, Resident Evil, and all their other series, it would be pure awesome. And it could lead to a Nintendo vs. Capcom.

Eventually, Smash will take it to the next step and crossover with a crossover, Super Robot Wars to be exact.

Then we get to play a fighting/strategy game where nintendo characters pilot giant mechs to fight each other. Just how awesome would that be?

    • Metal gear vs gaogaigar? i would bought that game
  • With Code Geass and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann announced as debuting in an upcoming Super Robot Wars Z game, one can only imagine what would ensue should Kirby inhale Simon or Lelouch.
    • He become the spiral nemesis. OH SHI-

Super Smash Bros. takes place in a weird version of the Team Fortress 2 universe.

In it, we have two long-standing video game rivals, Mario and Sonic, who are red and blue respectively. Much like the rival brothers Redmond and Blutarch. Red and Blue are also team colors, and various characters fill the roles of their TF 2 equivalents.

  • Mario = Redmond Mann
  • Sonic = Blutarch Mann
  • Captain Falcon = Saxton Hale
  • Tabuu = Zepheniah Mann
  • Master Hand/Crazy Hand = Announcer
  • Snake = Soldier
  • Charizard = Pyro
  • Ness = Scout
  • R.O.B. = Engineer
  • Ike = Heavy
  • Wolf = Demoman
  • Link = Sniper
  • Lucario = Medic
  • Meta Knight = Spy

The deleted characters from Melee had their trophies smashed.

  • Except Roy is the only one who doesn't have an in-game trophy. And with the exception of Young Link (who is pretty much reincarnated in Toon Link anyway) and Pichu, they were all clearly intended to return but were scrapped due to time issues, according to unused game files.
    • What do you mean, had their trophies smashed? As in they basically committed "suicide?" (Well, as well as a trophy can?) Please, if you mention Roy, neer suggest that again. I hope I'm wrong and misunderstanding you.

Master Hand is the embodiement of a child's imagination, Tabuu embodies an external force that wants to destroy it.

Tabuu can be seen as a parent, a teacher, older sibling, etc. who seeks to stop the child's activities because he/she finds them immature and pointless. Tabuu controling Master Hand is the attempt at forcing him to destroy his work. The characters in the game are the embodiement of the child's fantasies, which give him the strength to fight back and keep following his dreams.

Unfortunatley, there won't be another Super Smash Brothers game.

  • Some of the marketing campaign poster's and merchandise had the words "the brawl to end them all". I do hope this doesn't happen, though.
    • Jossed, as of E3 2011. The head honcho himself announced that there would be another Smash Bros. game for both the 3DS and the Wii (or was it the Wii U?). And the Fandom Rejoiced.

The player characters are all Robos.

  • Like Robos, the charactes are mere inchs tall and controlled by unseen forces.

The next Smash bros. game will be called "Super Smash Brothers Free-for-All".

Considering the past names were "melee" and "brawl" and there aren't many more synonyms left.

  • Rumble? Skirmish? Smackdown? Fray? Bout? Clash? Fracas? Quarrel? Ruckus? Scuffle? Tussle? ..."Disagreement"?
    • How about Smash Bros. Riot? When I first got Brawl I liked the idea.
  • Super Smash Brothers Swoon[3]
  • I'm hoping for something like "Dairantou Smash Bros GX" for the Japanese name. "DX" and "X" are already used, and they used "GX" for FZERO once, so why not for the next Smash too? Heck, they can even bring it to Smash 4 for US! "Super Smash Bros GX"!
  • Alternately, they'll take a cue from Left 4 Dead and name the game "Super Smash Bros. Free 4 All" instead of using the word "for." The story mode may also involve the characters, good and bad, organizing a revolution against an oppressive villain, created especially for the game.

Pokémon Trainer will have a deeper voice in the next game, and Link will be based off the newest incarnation.

The trophies are updated every game. Pokémon Trainer is based off Red in his Kanto journey, where he was eleven. He's fourteen in HGSS, which was released after Brawl. That's a sizable time span for him to have at least entered puberty.

If Snake is in Super Smash Bros 4, he will mistake Alex for Samus, then offer the idea/be suggested to that Samus is her descendant.

Then the conversation will get into Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty style insanity to mirror insanity effects (Bonus points for Psycho Mantis/The Sorrow appearing).

Cambell/Paul: I thought I told you to turn the game console off!
Snake: This isn't... really... happening!

Smash 4 will be a crossover with a crossover.

The question is...which one?

Smash 4 drop all third party characters.

Because Sakurai was weary on adding them, did not want to go farther than Snake and said three tops. Smash will be back to just Nintendo but another possible game may become a crossover.

The Pokemon Trainer wasn't catching Ivysaur and Charizard for the first time.

They were already his Pokemon to begin with. They had been stolen and released (or escaped) from PT, and he needs to get them back. Why he has pictures of Ivysaur and Charizard is to show other people what they look like. Like "I'm searching for my lost Ivysaur and Charizard! They look like this! -shows picture-" It's why he's in the middle of nowhere by himself when Lucas runs into him, he's still searching for his Pokemon.

  • To elaborate further, PT started with Charmander, it's why Charizard is the only fully-evolved Pokemon. He then traded with friends/whoever to get a Bulbasaur and a Squirtle. He went and trained Bulbasaur to an Ivysaur, and then the SSE trouble started and Ivysaur and Charizard were stolen away before Ivysaur could evolve further.
    • And it's why all he has is a measly Squirtle to start with. And then he teamed up with Lucas, and then getting his own Pokemon back would be piece of cake!
  • So why do Charizard and Ivysaur fight PT? Obviously they are effected by the negative energy of Subspace and are acting irrationally (or if they escaped don't want to be with PT and are trying to chase him away). That, or Subspace made them like Shadow Pokemon where they need to be "stolen/recaptured" again to begin trusting their trainer again.
    • ...this IS Wild Mass Guessing, and I get bugged by how people are saying PT is trying to catch Ivysaur and Charizard. But yeah, it's what I think. -shrugs-
  • If my dreams come true, several of my video game characters will be in the next Super Smash Bros. Game. I've already been thinking of a good plot for the next SSB game's adventure mode.
  • That could explain why he only has 3 Pokemon instead of a full team. The other 3 were lost and never found.

SSB4's roster will be the biggest yet

  • This is actually the combination of three separate ideas I had:

1. The Brawl roster will be reused for the next game.[4]
2. The Melee exclusive fighters will return.[5]

3. Highly demanded fighters will be used.[6] This is partily confirmed as there is word that a Capcom character will be implemented.

    • And now we have four: There is talk from the creators about the possibility of downloadable content.

The game is a Post Modern metaphor.

In the beginning of the first game, we see a hand, the Master Hand making the action figures fighting against each other and the final boss is the same Master Hand. Master Hand is the hand of the owner of the figures and the figures must defeat him.

Banjo, Jonna Dark, Conker, and Vela & Juno were meant to be characters in Melee.

But, due to Rare being bought out by Microsoft this idea was rejected. Evidence, is with the motion sensor bomb in Melee.

  • The motion sensor bomb was in the original to but they were not. Lupus would be the only character from that last game getting in anyway.

Otacon's piloting the helicopter for Snake's Final Smash.

He's the only helicopter pilot on Snake's Codec roster. The whole Final Smash seems to be a shout-out to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, so why not have his partner in the driver's seat? This does make his conspicuous absence from the trophy ranks even more conspicuous, but that's a rant for another time.

In SSB4, characters will...

  • Be offered as Downloadable Content
  • Have some exclusivity between Wii U and 3DS
  • And be transferable between the two consoles.
  • Stages and items (like Assist Trophies) are more likely. Sakurai of all people would know that making things as important as characters exclusive in some manner would seriously stagger the gameplay.
  • The credits minigame will be on the controller as opposed to the big screen.

Jiro from the new game The Rolling Western will be playable in SSB4.

Super Smash Bros. is, at its most basic level, an elaborate advertisement for Nintendo games. Any character's inclusion (in this case Jiro) will generate interest in that character's game(s). It's in Nintendo's best interest to advertise this new IP as much as possible.

The lost cutscene chronicling the Subspace Army stealing the Halberd was supposed to introduce Mr. Game & Watch.

This is why Mr. G&W doesn't have a subtitle appear at any point during the Subspace Emissary.

Super Smash Bros 4 will include character banter before and after matches.

Why? Why not! Ok, a lot of the characters are Heroic Mime, Pokémon-Speak or such, but it would be cool.

    • It would be interesting to see how characters from different worlds interact, but I don't know if they would actually do it.

No Melee exclusive character actually left.

Hear me out, really. Think about it:

  • Little Link(Young Link) got an animation upgrade.
  • Mewtwo is powerful enough to have made an illution and we just think he's Lucario.
    • Or we were playing as a Ditto the whole time.
  • Pichu, of course, evolved.
  • Dr. Mario... is Mario. Duh.
  • And last but not least, Roy is Ike. Yah, yah, I'm crazy. But I've always had a theory tha Roy was Marth's 'adopted' brother at least, and Ike would be Marth's twin... despite the canon not allowing that. But still. Same general move-set, same hair minus colour.... maybe it's that Roy knew he'd be kicked out so he took a make-over and got a new name. Or maybe this is one troper's failure to except her favorite character has been tossed aside like a broken toy.

Pit will return with some of the new weapons introduced in Uprising.

  • Something to replace angel ring most likely. Possibly a new final smash and or a replacement to the beam sword.

If Lucas returns, there will be a Shout-Out to the Mother 3 Fan Translation in the English version.

The Master Hand is the Ego, the Crazy Hand is the Id, and Tabuu is the Super-ego.

About half of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl theme music is actually about Sonic.

Imagine this: A world, loaded with Nintendo characters, minor and major (minor ones becoming somewhat major due to the popularity of the game itself), dueling among themselves in a bid to see who's the best. Suddenly, disaster strikes, and most of this world is thrust into a darker dimension. The Big Bad defeats everyone in one blow. Then they get revived for Round 2, thanks to the work done by an unlikely ally]], and he tries his ridiculous attack again. A blue blur shatters the Big Bad's tools, preventing the attack, and reveals himself to be Sonic the Hedgehog. A foreigner to the world of Nintendo, and effectively becoming a Big Damn Hero with these actions, naturally, he would fit with the lyrics of the theme. It makes a lot of sense, if you think about it. Almost (from a loyal Sonic fan's point of view) brilliant!

In the next Smash Bros, characters will be able to fight in water.

Melee had water, but it was purely cosmetic and functioned exactly like air. Brawl had water, and it functioned like water, but all you could do was jump out, swim left and right a little or wait about 10 seconds and drown. 4 will have water, and it will be awesome rather than uneccesary. Characters could do roughly the same things in the water that they could do on land, bar a couple of changes to the standard attacks. You may say this idea is stupid, but why else would they put such a useless mechanic in Brawl if they weren't planning on expanding- Oh darn, tripping.

Every game features a different Link.

Each game gives Link different costumes, slightly different weapons and attacks, and various other quirks.

  • Smash 64: This is the shakiest part of the theory, given his entrance and since Oo T was the only 3d game out when 64 was released, but if Pit, Marth, and Roy can do it, so can Link. However, his costumes feature blue, red, and white/lavender tunics, possibly representing the Blue and Red Mails, along with the Blue ring from the original. A Link to the Past gave Link much the same equipment (even the hookshot!) with a similar look, but NO BOW.
  • Melee: Adult Link is undeniably Oo T Link this time, and the boomerang is a carry-over from Smash 64. However, something stands out about Young Link that keeps him from being Oo T's child Link: he has the bow, which he cannot use in Oo T. However, in Majora's Mask he gets not just the bow, but the Fire Arrows!
  • Brawl: Following the split timeline introduced in Melee, the two Links come from Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
  • SSB 4: The next game will probably feature the young Link from Spirit Tracks and the adult Link from Skyward Sword.

Rayquaza was weakened by the Subspace Army before encountering Fox and Diddy Kong.

Given Rayquaza's status as the Sky High Pokemon and its territorial nature, it only makes sense that it would have tried attacking the Halberd, seeing it as a threat. The Halberd managed to overwhelm Rayquaza, forcing it into a lake to recover. That would explain why it was so far from home, and why it managed to be defeated by two characters that should be far less powerful than it.

Super Smash Bros. takes place in a universe very similar to the show ReBoot.

The characters live together in peace until the User turns the game on and forces them to fight to the death. The character chosen by the user is generally safer than the others though. This is why the characters controlled by the computer all like to gang up on the human player.

Snake has the infinite ammo bandanna in Brawl.

That would explain why he never runs out of grenades and such.

The Hands actually belong to Ni GHTS.

The game is actually a dream that the Smashers are having, with Ni GHTS controlling everything. He/she never actually means to harm the Smashers, only wishing to have fun, hence why they only turn into trophies when KO'd.

  • Think about it. The Hands are two disembodied hands with white gloves. Ni GHTS wears similar gloves, and doesn't appear to have wrists, his/her hands instead floating inches from his/her sleeves.
  • To further support this theory, who shows up right at the very end to save everyone? None other than fellow Sega character, Sonic. Ni GHTS must've reached out to him in a last-ditch effort to save everyone.

Red actually has six Pokemon with him.

He just doesn't use them in battle either because of regulations, or he simply chooses not to.

In a few years...

Super Smash Bros. will become an actual Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny (or whatever it is). Every cartoon character and video game character in exisistance will be playable and stages based off of everything. (See! Timmy Turner kicking Cloud Strife's bum in Silent Hill! See! Waluigi KO's Johnny Bravo and Johnny Test in Stormalong Harbor! See! Elmo and Winnie the Pooh take on Jack Sparrow and Geno! See! Gumball and Darwin face Master Hand!) That would be a fitting finale for SSB, as well as being totally awesome! (Remember, this is Wild Mass Guessing)

    • Add in a few ponies and the whole thing could become 20% cooler!

Tabuu is a ghost from Geist.

Look at them and know this theory only makes more sense if you know the two. The slight difference in Tabuu's appearance and his different powers can be explained by him being a natural ghost, not one created by technology and subspace is the same place the natural ghosts, demons and other monsters came from in Geist. The reason Tabuu could not directly influence the outside world is because no one was dumb enough to invoke him but he still managed to somehow catch Master Hand and indirectly draw the world into subspace anyway. This also means John Raimi might be in a new Smash Bros, because Geist is a Nintendo game.

There are Melee Pikachu belongs to Red now

That's why it never appears. This goes along with the "Brawl!Pikachu is Melee's Pichu" theory.

Real time damage will appear in the newest game.

The series has a habit of taking things left out of previous games and adding them into later installments.

The Beam Sword will not be in a future smash bros game

It had a nice run, but it will be replaced weapons from the 3DS Kid Icarus game. A club, a cannon and two orbiters. Alternatively, it will be replaced by a beam sword that has actually shown up in a Nintendo game(take your pick).

More character-specific victory quotes

In Brawl Fox, Falco and Wolf all had victory quotes they would only say to the other two. It doesn't make sense to not give other characters quotes like these also, even if it's just giving Mario a "So long big-a Bowser!" Though I'd like to see Luigi really rub a victory in Mario's face.

Furthermore, there could be more stages and characters who can Smash Taunt.

Back to Super Smash Bros.
  1. and the equally huge marketing push that Zekrom's getting; see Pokémon Re BURST and Nobunaga's Ambition
  2. Pokémon that N uses in the game, possibly as fully evolved forms; maybe Darumaka/Darmanitan, Klang/Klinklang, Archeops, Sandile/Krokorok/Krookodile, Genesect, or even Hydreigon stolen from his dad
  3. Sorry We're Out of Names
  4. No characters subtracted, of course.
  5. This I based off of how the Mario Kart series drops racers for one game and brings them back the next; Koopa Trooper, Baby Mario and Luigi, and Birdo are examples of this. ...also, they were almost put into Brawl, then scrapped...
  6. The biggest example of this I can find is that Keiji Inafune said he wasn't asked permission to use Mega Man for Brawl.
