A sweet old lady of Scottish descent who found Courage abandoned by an alley and took him home. She is constantly in danger from the things that come to Nowhere but she always smiles at some point during the episode. And she loves Eustace despite his [[Jerkass]] personality. She also loves using vinegar in ''all'' of her cooking, and in an early episode picked up playing the sitar and also has a fondness for tea.

The Courage series tend to not have many Sympathetic characters except for Muriel and Courage himself (And some minor monsters that have a sad backstory). Most characters are either major Jerkasses, legitimately scary, or just rather stupid.

Main Characters

Courage

Serves as the titular character who is a pink and black spotted dog (of no known specific breed) who saves his owners Muriel and Eustace from all the creatures. No matter if they're Nightmare Fuel, Uncanny Valley, or just plain weird.

Muriel Bagge

A sweet old lady of Scottish descent who found Courage abandoned by an alley and took him home. She is constantly in danger from the things that come to Nowhere but she always smiles at some point during the episode. And she loves Eustace despite his Jerkass personality. She also loves using vinegar in all of her cooking, and in an early episode picked up playing the sitar and also has a fondness for tea.

Eustace Bagge

A self-proclaimed farmer that tends to be grumpy and isn't really a nice guy to anyone. He thinks he can fix anything and grow anything but this is never the case. He also has a greed for money. Although early on with no backstory whatsoever he seems to deserve what happens to him in each of the episodes when you learn he didn't have that great of a childhood with a non-loving mom and a always better Big Brother he turns into more a Jerkass Woobie and depending who you are you may actually feel sorry for the guy.

Minor Recurring Characters

The Computer

A Jerkass helper who Courage commonly goes to for advice on stopping the Big Bad of the episode. His advice for the most part works well, but his insults and sarcastic vibes gets contempt from Courage.

Di Lung

A guy of implied Chinese descent that makes small cameos in episodes where he almost runs into Courage (usually in his car) and says his catchphrase.

Dr. Vindaloo

Eustace: That darn doctor doesn't know what he's doing!

Eustace's Mother

Rather equally a Jerkass to her son as he is to Courage, she insults Eustace at every oppurtunity and as a contrast to her son she is nice to Courage. Occasionally she is the antagonist of a few episodes especially when it's something about helping with a company that helps with wigs.

Charlie The Mouse

A large delivery mouse who is apparently friends with Courage.

Shirley the Medium

A Wizard/Gypsy chihuahua that offers help or sells magical objects at her trailer. She is able to place curses on those who cross her (Usually Eustace) and Courage has to go find her in order to reverse them.

Floyd

Horst Bagge

Officer/Professor/Captain/Pilot/Mayor/General/Park Ranger Frith

Parachute Lady

Nowhere Newsman

Major/Recurring Villains

The Chicken from Outer Space

The very first monster to disturb the Main Characters house. In the pilot, he harasses the chickens out in their henhouse and he is thwarted after he accidentally shoots himself Via a mirror from Courage. He would later return albeit as a cooked chicken in a later episode where he looks for a new head. It is revealed later he had a wife and a kid with 3 heads.

Katz

A tall, skinny Anthromorphic cat that is in many episode implied to have several victims like in the motel and his island. He seems to have great skill at games such as Handball, and an expert at staring contests. He is probably the first villian to appear that can be Nightmare Fuel inducing considering his debut is the first episode after the Chicken from Outer Space pilot kinda leaves it open to what the show will get through from the start. He is also the most recurring villain on the show, appearing in a total of five episodes.

Le Quack

A French duck that disguises himself as many jobs but is actually a thief that steals riches from his victims. After his debut his plans are more towards getting revenge on Courage while at the same time trying to steal stuff. He always seems to escape capture every time, and repeats "They have not seen the last of...Le Quack".

Benton Tarentella

An evil zombie director who puts his "actors" in a position where they'll listen to everything he says where they can be Killed Off for Real on camera or torture themselves for humor on a live TV show.

The Snowman

A snowman who dreads the disapperence of his snowman friends and the easily meltable substance they're made out of. He tries to avoid ever melting by extracting the Anti-Melting gene of humans in order to maintain himself as it gets warmer where he lives. He's the Last of His Kind, as all the other Snowmen melted, until Courage repairs the hole in the Ozone Layer, reviving the others and saving his home. Is also one of the few recurring foes to find redemption.

  • Badass
  • Evil Brit: Subverted.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Subverted.
  • Evil Laugh
  • Green Aesop
  • Heel Face Turn: Once Courage repairs the hole in the Ozone Layer and revives all the Snowman's dead friends, he's more than happy to stop being a bad guy and return home in peace.
  • Instant Ice, Just Add Cold: "The first frozen snowman... not too shabby!"
  • Last of His Kind: He's the last Snowman, as the others all melted due to the hole in the Ozone Layer. This is his primary motivation, as he doesn't want his species to die out. Courage fixes the hole in the Ozone Layer, which revives the other Snowmen, allowing him to return home in peace.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Sean Connery
  • Shout Out: He sounds like Sean Connery.
    • Even more so with his invention the Snowfinger. Obviously a shout out to Goldfinger.
    • Also, his introduction: "The name's Man. Snowman."
  • Snowlems
  • Villain Song: In "The Snowman's Revenge". Also counts as a Big Lipped Alligator Moment, since it came completely out of nowhere and was never mentioned again.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Well at least in his 2nd apperence. He decides to freeze the area the Bagges live because his home is being melted by the Ozone Hole.
    • Also in his first one, as he's just trying to stop his race from going extinct.

Three Government Ninjas

Minor Villains/Antagonists and Other One-Shot Characters

Cajun Fox

A fox very reminiscent of a certain Looney Tunes character. Only the fact that he's a fox, has shades, and actually would of gotten his prize if it weren't for a slapstick chase with a certain cowardly dog.

The Shadow

A shadow of an evil man that passes away thus letting him free. After becoming free he haunts the basement of Courage's Home, but secretly has a passion of becoming a Star.

Bigfoot

Demon in the Mattress

Demon describes as Exactly What It Says On the Tin. When someone sleeps on the bed he possesses their body by making their skin green, and the hair red. He can only be ousted by an incantation.

Freaky Fred

A barber that is Muriel's cousin. At first glance, he just seems to be a crazy, creepy barber. But deep down he's much worse then that. He speaks in his mind and speaks normally in rhymes, but he has basically an obsession And possibly a fetish for cutting every single hair off someone. When he cuts Courage's hair he doesn't stop until just the hair on Courage's tail remains.

Currently serves as the image for the series' Nightmare Fuel page.

Eustace: The freak's a barber. A freeeaky barber. With his own freaky barber shop. Where freaky things happen. Freaky barber things!

Weremole

A creature that moves in a similar to Tremors and mainly preys on rabbits. But if it bites a human or perhaps other creatures that survive it's bite into a weremole themselves. The only cure to a bite such as that is to get a hair off the original weremole and get it into the affected person's mouth. Presuming you can get lucky enough to get either the Weremole or the victim without getting bitten yourself.

Duck Brothers

2 Turns out there is 3 brother ducks that come to Nowhere. They are on a mission to find their 3rd brother. One of the 2 tends to lay eggs, the other gets annoyed by this.

Horst's Box Demon

King Ramses

An ancient pharaoh that places a curse on any holder of his slab. The first curse being a flood, the second being a really loud Ear Worm song coming from a record player, and the last being locusts that eat anything.

Toe Fungus Gangsters

Mob-like Foot monster that is created from a strange infection that overwhelms Eustace. The Big toe is the mob boss while all the rest are followers with no different personalities except maybe for the Pinky toe.

The Hunchback Of Nowhere

The Goose God

A god that is Exactly What It Says On the Tin. He desires love and a worthy queen to be wed to. He gets a crush on Muriel and tries to take her as her queen. At least until he hears the sound of the horn of Eustace's Truck.

Queen of the Black Puddle

A siren-like monster that lives in a black puddle that she lives in. She lures in men to her puddle and eats them.

The Precious, Wonderful, Adorable, Loveable Duckling

A duck that hatches from a cooking pot that develops a love for Eustace. So much so he tries to eliminate the one person who likes Eustace just as much as he does: Muriel.

Jean Bon

A chef and owner of a Hamburger restaurant. The creepy parts of the beginning makes it seem that the meat is made out of humans who have previously visited the place. But actually he just makes Meat Sculptures of his favorite customers. Not that that's not still not creepy, but still.

The Eggplants

Large group of living eggplants that believe Muriel is a great evil that must be extinguished. But they won't attack until they are ordered by The Great Eggplant to do so. They become nicer when water finally drops and their vines grow.

The Great Fusilli

An alligator stage owner that finds people wishing to make famous stage stars/actors and make him puppets on his stage for an audience that actually isn't even there. When they act on stage, strings come down from the masks and transforms them into puppets.

The Magic Tree Of Nowhere

Robot Randy

A robot from a whole colony of similar robots that acts differently from the rest. Instead of wanting to destroy, he wants to pick up a hobby/job of making wooden reindeer. He is at first ridiculed for this but when it turns out to be a great business he is more accepted when he gets back to his planet.

Schwick

An anthropomorphic cockroach that invites the Bagges family to a hotel room where just on the wall is a small mouse door that has something in there that is never directly known as all that's left of it's victims are bones. Schwick is also a wanted criminal, and to hide his tracks he hires Courage to deliver a present to a scary house with doors of horrible things (One including a certain Violin girl).

Basil

A deranged and confused burglar whose very prone to mood swings and personality shifts. Sometimes he's convinced that the Bagges are his own relatives.

A spirit that warns the family (Especially Eustace) that something must grow on the farm "or else". We never actually see what Or Else means. But it's presumed to be really bad.

An old singer that Eustace was a big fan of. His spirit is trapped in a record and he comes out when played.

The Sandman

A thin man who like other portrayals of the Sandman is like the god of Sleep. However he has a problem trying to sleep, that even his herd of sheep can not get him to lie down. So he chooses to take Muriel's deep sleep literally from under her nose. At least until Courage finds his Teddy Bear.

The Virus

The Valkyries

William

A dragon who appears in the episode "Food Of The Dragon". He devours Eustace and threatens to eat Muriel and Courage unless Courage can teach him how to fly. He chases after Courage and Muriel and discovers that he's actually a water-dwelling dragon (which is why he cannot fly) and is reunited with his long-lost brother). Oh, and he takes Eustace out of his own stomach.

The Starmaker

A female, space-dwelling squid who was tragically and heartrendingly separated from her husband, who was devoured by a space whale. She ends up crashing onto Earth as the last of her kind... and getting progressively sicker. Unfortunately, the government discovers her and wants possession of her- right when she's pregnant with babies. Courage saves the squid's babies... but the mommy still passes away, turning into a field of flowers, while her eggs hatch into newborns, fly off into space, and give birth to new stars.

The Chicken from Outer Space's Son

The son(/s) of the villain from the pilot of the series. They have 3 heads consisting of a leader, the smart one (who tends to flash a camera), and an idiot one They are sent down to Nowhere to take revenge for the death of their father by killing Courage. If they don't kill him they are told they can't come back home. They of course fail to kill Courage and after seeing them cry thinking they can't go back home, Courage opts to fake a beating using the camera.

Jay and Captain Lazzo

Creature in the Wall

The Librarian

Evil Veterinarian

Quite possibly the worst villain of the entire series, he stands out as Courage's biggest nightmare. Why? This screw-loose "vet" came up with a horrible idea back when Courage was a puppy- abduct dogs and rocket them off to the moon to make them into super breeds of space dogs. Tragically... He captured Courage's beloved mom and dad, and Courage himself, with plans to send them into space. Although Courage's parents came to the rescue, the doctor sealed them up in a rocket with a one-way trip to the moon in store. Courage was too terrified by this predicament to do anything but escape harm through a garbage chute- only to watch his parents be catapulted into space- in tears. Fortunately, a younger Muriel discovered the young pup in the dumpster and gave him a happy home. Many years later, the maniac doctor, albeit considerably older and balder, still continues his twisted plans... but now Muriel and Eustace get trapped in a rocket themselves. But this time, Courage refuses to stand by and watch his family be taken from him, freeing the two of them. In the struggle, the evil vet gets himself locked inside his own rocket and propelled to the moon... where every dog he victimized is waiting for him- including Courage's decidedly furious parents.

"Perfect" Teacher

One-Scene Characters/One-Shot Minor Characters

Violin Girl

Nothing is much known about the character itself, but it's one off appearance in "Big Stinkin' City" is one of those sights a Courage fan never forgets. From the back it looks like a normal girl playing Violin (Though even this is considered Uncanny Valley considering everything else around is animated). But when it turns around it has a scary looking claymation face that brings the Uncanny Valley Up to Eleven as there's realistic looks, animated background, and claymation all in one spot. Though it seems that the girl's face is not always like that, as she appears normal on a television that Eustace is watching later in the episode.

Lint Lady

An insane, tiny, old lady with an obsession with lint. Doc Gerbil performed an expiriment on her that gave her plungers for arms and legs, but she is still able to grab stuff using the suction cups.

The Water Dragon

A water-dwelling dragon that Courage and Muriel meet towards the end of the episode "Food Of The Dragon". He seems scary at first, but turns out to be very friendly. He's William's long-lost brother.

Perfect Trumpet Thingy

A blue... thing that appears in the first of Courage's nightmares in "Perfect". Probably one of the series' scariest things, if not the scariest, joining the ranks of King Ramses and the Harvest Moon Spirit in terms of CGI abominations. It appears to be a warped trumpet with a horrible human face stuck on it, or possibly a deformed fetus with a horrible human face stuck on it. Currently serves as the image for the series' Nightmare Fuel page.

The Blue Fish

A bizarre, blue-scaled, red-finned, green-eyed fish that appears in the bathtub to tell Courage that it's alright to be imperfect and accept his flaws as what makes him unique and beautiful.

  • Eat the Dog: Poor guy ends up being eaten for dinner. Played for Laughs- although he's now beer-battered, he's still alive and gets off a goofy laugh that basically takes the show to the point where things can't get any weirder, closing out the series poetically.
  • Green Eyes
  • One-Scene Wonder: Effectively an Aesop for the Grand Finale to give the viewers something worthwhile to go out on.
