Sector V

The main characters of the show, they are a division of a worldwide actually galactic organization known as the Kids Next Door. They are considered to be one of the best teams in the KND.

Numbuh 1

Numbuh One / Nigel Uno

"Kids Next Door, battle stations!"

The leader of Sector V, an overworking agent who loves every minute of his job. He is widely considered one of the best of the best. However, his paranoia and stubbornness have gotten in the way of doing his job effectively at times. He is voiced by Benjamin Diskin.

Numbuh 2

Numbuh Two / Hogarth "Hoagie" P. Gilligan Jr.

"Come to Numbuh Two!"

The team's technology expert who loves cracking bad jokes. As Sector V's technology officer, he designs many of the 2×4 technology the team uses In his off time he enjoys building and flying airplanes and solving mysteries at his school. Voiced by Benjamin Diskin.

Numbuh 3

Numbuh Three / Kuki Sanban

"What do you think I am, an airhead or something?"

The team's medic, and the most feminine of the kids, a happy-go-lucky girl who loves Rainbow Monkeys. In battle, she specializes in diversionary tactics. She seems to have a lot of admirers, but her heart obviously belongs to a certain Aussie. Voiced by Lauren Tom.

Numbuh 4

Numbuh Four / Wallabee "Wally" Beatles

"Right, first I'll be cleaning your adult-lovin' prissy little clocks..."

The team's combat specialist. He's incredibly lacking in book smarts, but his combat prowess more than makes up for it. In his off time, he competes in adult disapproved sports. Despite his dislike for girly things, he very obviously has a crush on the very feminine Numbuh Three. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.

Numbuh 5

Numbuh Five / Abigail "Abby" Lincoln

"I like it when things are too easy."

The team's second-in-command, she's the one that keeps a level head under all circumstances, even when everyone else loses it. In her spare time, she's a candy hunter, which brings her in conflict with her rival Heinrich and candy pirate Stickybeard. Voiced by Cree Summer.

Numbuh Five: Something just happened. It's as if million of gallons of ice cream just... disappeared.

Other KND Operatives

A Kids Next Door desk operative who frequently delivers mission specs to Sector V. He works on the Moon Base. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.

Numbuh 74.329

Numbuh Seventy Four Point Three Two Nine

"If you honor what your friends are fighting for, you'll make that sacrifice."

A high-ranking Kids Next Door scientist. His technology is what keeps the KND running. Voiced by Dave Wittenberg.

Numbuh 86

Numbuh Eighty Six / Fanny Fulbright

"Of all the stupid things in the stupid world of stupid people acting stupid, you boys are the stupidliest! It's like you're trying to win a stupid contest but you're too stupid to take a stupidity test!"

The former Head of Decommissioning and current Global Tactics Officer. She's a shrill girl with a particular intolerance for the male sex. But due to her behavior, she has next to no friends. Voiced by Jennifer Hale.

  • Action Girl
  • Alpha Bitch: A military version. A bit of a Deconstruction in that she's not well-liked at all.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: After being betrayed by her friend Numbuh 12 and left devastated over it, Numbuh Three agrees to be her friend when nobody else would. As a result, she treats her far more nicely than she usually does (it helps they both adore Rainbow Monkeys)
  • Berserk Button: Saying anything anti-feminist around her is a big No-No.
    • Also, don't ever call her "Toots", as Numbuh 2 learned the hard way in "Operation: P.I.N.K.-E.Y.E."
  • Break the Haughty
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Subverted. She's Mr. Boss' (who leads the bad guys) daughter, but she in turn is still one of the good guys' leaders. Does explain a lot though.
  • Does Not Like Men: AND HOW!
  • Fiery Redhead: Bordering on Evil Redhead at worst.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: As the unpleasant decommissioning officer, nearly everyone hates her guts.
  • Hate Sink: In-Universe, nearly everyone who knows her hates her guts, and justifiably so. Not so much out of universe, at least after her Character Development.
  • Jerkass: Later went from Straw Feminist to a just plain jerk to everyone. She becomes a Jerk with a Heart of Gold later on, though.
  • Little Miss Badass
  • Meaningful Name: Well, meaningful Numbuh, when you look at her rank: to be "eighty-sixed" is American slang for being thrown out, eliminated, or rejected (it's also used in restaurant lingo to mean that a menu item has run out and is no longer available)
  • The Medic: A flashback to Numbuh Five's second Mission shows 86 wearing hat with a cross and checking on the injured. How she went from a medic to head of decommissioning is not explained.
  • Morality Pet: Oddly enough, she fulfills this role to her father, Mr. Boss. A lot of his Pet the Dog moments are reserved for her.
  • Never My Fault: Her introduction episode in which she never takes responsibility for her own blunders which wound up hampering Sector V's efforts for the mission. Thank karma kicked in when the spy she thought she she capture was actually an undercover agent (Number 362 in fact up) whose mission was ruined by 86 and get harshly chewed out for it (for added irony through out most of the episode she was putting down the boys in the group the most for any minor screw ups. End of the episode saw a girl doing this to her.)
  • Noodle Incident: According to a canon comic, whatever made her hate boys happened after she became an operative.
  • Slap Slap Kiss: With Numbuh Ninteenth Century.
  • Straw Feminist: Later became less of this and more flat-out unfriendly to everyone (which, oddly enough, was a step up for her)
  • Too Dumb to Live: She's really dedicated to her job so much so that it blinds her to the most obvious points of logic, such as in Operation E.N.D when she sent to capture and decommission Sector V based on the fact the computer says their turning 13. Numbuh One points out they're in the same age group, she and he even went to kindergardern together. But nope! If the databanks says their teens it must be true! No point in questioning it.
  • Tsundere: A G-rated Asuka, really.
  • Unexplained Accent: If she's the daughter of Mr. Boss, where does her Irish accent come from? Apparently her mother, as revealed during her first slumber party (ever).

Numbuh 362

Numbuh Three Sixty Two / Rachel T. McKenzie

"As Kids Next Door Soopreme Leader, I hearby order you to... go long!"

Originally the top spy in the KND, she is now its current Soopreme Leader. Due to her busy and demanding job, she's often stressed, but at heart she stands stubbornly for the rights of kids everywhere, and if the situation arises she can be fun-loving too. Has grown to form a close friendship (and perhaps more) with Nigel Uno. Voiced by Rachael MacFarlane.

Numbuh 363

Numbuh Three Sixty Three / Harvey McKenzie

He's Numbuh 362's younger brother and leader of Sector W. Unfortunately, he's not nearly as nice as his sister. Not even close.

  • 0% Approval Rating: His sister is literally the only person who can tolerate his existence. The same goes for the audience.
  • Bad Boss
  • Berserk Button: Do not touch him. Ever.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Big time.
  • Dirty Coward
  • Hates Being Touched: His number one weak spot.
  • Hate Sink: He's a selfish, ungrateful brat who treats his own sector and everyone around him like shit. He's such a special kind of prick he makes even the most hated characters in the show seem like absolute saints in comparison. Tellingly, he has absolutely no fans In-Universe and out, with only his sister being able to tolerate his presence.
  • Humiliation Conga: At the end of the finale, and deservingly so.
  • It's All About Me
  • Jerkass: So much so, he makes even Grandfather look pleasant by comparison.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections: He thinks being the Soopreme Leader's younger brother means he can get away with anything he does, no matter how dickish or horrible, to the point Numbuhs One and Four had to be restrained because of this. Thank God he gets proven wrong soon after.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With his sister.

Villains

Father

Father /Benedict Uno

"Bravo, Mr. Uno. You managed to skillfully outwit a bunch of children. The question is, do you have what it takes to play with the big boys?"

The mysterious head villain, Father is a man who wears a suit of shadows and is skilled in very dark powers. He schemes to enslave all children and turn them into his twisted version of "delightful". But despite his dark and malicious appearance, sometimes all he wants to do is curl up in a bathrobe with some Rocky Road. He is voiced by Maurice LaMarche.

The Delightful Children from Down the Lane

The Delightful Children from Down the Lane / Sector Z

"Hello Kids Next Door. Perhaps you would like to try kicking our posteriors now?"

Father's eerie children, supposedly an adult's view of the "perfect" kids. They are educated, well-dressed and polite, but are somewhat uncivilized in their burning hatred for the Kids Next Door. They always appear clustered together, move as one and speak in perfect unison. They are voiced by Benjamin Diskin, Dee Bradley Baker, and Cree Summer.

Chad Dickson

Chad Dickson / formerly Numbuh Two Seventy-Four

"There was no way I was going to turn over everything I ever built, everything I ever worked for, to a bunch of snot-nosed kids!"

Former Soopreme Leader of the Kids Next Door idolized and loved by all, he turned evil the moment he turned thirteen. He then served as a high-ranking member of the Teen Ninjas, and lost all the respect he had to his name. Generally cocky and approving of himself, both before and after his betrayal. Voiced by Jason Harris.

Cree Lincoln

Cree Lincoln/ formerly Numbuh Eleven

Numbuh Five's older sister and former Kids Next Door operative, skilled, cool and determined. Her relationship with her sister is very strained, but deep down they really do love each other. She is a high ranking member of the Teen Ninjas and Father's apprentice. Voiced by Cree Summer.

Mr. Boss

Mr. Boss

"So long, shrimp! I hope your friend likes Pluto!"

CEO of a big company and additionally the "leader" of the villains, he tends to lead them on cooperative missions. He hates all children... except his own. Voiced by Jeff Bennett.

Toiletnator

Toiletnator

"Kids Next Door, prepare to be flushed!"

The show's most pathetic villain. He gets no respect from the Kids Next Door or his fellow villains. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.

Stickybeard

Stickybeard

A spirited candy pirate who loots and plunders candy from neighborhood children. He respects Numbuh Five and seeks her as an apprentice. Voiced by Mark Hamill.

Heinrich Von Marzipan

Heinrich Von Marzipan

"Ach, lipschen, I say so many things I do not mean. Like, ah, no more candy for me, or, who would like some of my lollipops!"

A former friend of Numbuh Five and current candy-hunting rival. He greedily seeks forbidden candy regardless of the consequences. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker / Candi Milo.

  • Arch Enemy: To Numbuh Five.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: The main contrast between her true self Henrietta and Heinrich. Hell, when she sacrificed her "beauty" trait, it clearly meant both the external and internal one.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Got turned into a chocolate monster that can turn anything he touches into chocolate. After Numbuh Five defeats him, the KND turns him back to normal.
  • Card-Carrying Villain
  • Cry Cute: In CARAMEL, after realizing Numbuh Five never gave up on him despite everything that happened.
  • Gender Bender: In sacrificing his beauty, he switched genders. He's actually a girl.
  • Greed: Obsessed with getting candy and never sharing it, which usually leads to many of his downfalls.
  • Heel Face Turn
  • Homage: To Indiana Jones Nazi villains.
  • I Lied: As his quote indicates.
  • My Name Is Not Durwood: Numbuh Five calls him "Heinie".
  • Never My Fault: He does this a lot, such as in his first appearance where he blames Abby for tainting the candy with the taste of asparagus when she warned him before hand that being greedy will put that curse into effect. It's also his grudge for the Guatemala Incident as after he sacrificed his beauty due to yet another curse. He once more blamed Abby for not stopping him from eating his caramels and supposedly leaving him stuck in that state. Turns out she was trying to find a way to break the curse. Thankfully, when she becomes Henrietta again, she apologizes to Numbuh Five for acting like this.
  • One-Winged Angel: In his first appearance after obtaining a jewel, he transforms into a monster with power of candy. Numbuh Five defeats him though. After falling into a chocolate volcano, he returned as a powerful monster who can turn things into chocolate by touching it. He was cured by the KND though.
  • Noodle Incident: Throughout the series he remains angry at Numbuh Five for "Guatemala". His last appearance reveals that he performed a ritual to get delicious caramel by sacrificing their best trait (in his case beauty) and blamed Numbuh Five for allowing it to happen.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: When he returns after falling into a chocolate volcano, having been turned into a chocolate monster.
  • Samus Is a Girl
  • Serious Business: Like with Stickybeard, Candy is serious business.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After being turned back into Henrietta, she apologizes to Numbuh Five for her behavior as Heinrich, and thanks her for never giving up on her.
  • Tragic Villain: While he skirts over the Moral Event Horizon for most of the series, the kind of crap he goes through is such it's hard not to pity him. CARAMEL only pushes this further, although he (or better said, she) manages to find redemption at the end.

Mushi Sanban

Mushi Sanban

She's Numbuh Three's little sister. At first seen as just an annoying brat, she eventually establishes herself as an evil kid who outright despises her much kinder sister. Voiced by Tara Strong.

Grandfather

Grandfather

Father and Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero's father and an Evil Overlord who once ruled the entire planet. He's by far the most dangerous enemy the KND have every faced and makes Father look like a saint compared to him. Acted as the Big Bad in The Movie. Voiced by Neil Ross.

  • Abusive Parent: He's why Father is the way he is. Let that sink for a moment.
  • Berserk Button: Don't be a coward in his presence.
  • Big Bad: Of The Movie.
  • Blue and Orange Morality: While gleefully evil, he shows a very bizarre code of morality, showing respect only to those who rebel against him and despising cowards, regardless of the moral compass they have.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: The first thing he says after being reawakened is to thank Father for "reawakening the pure evil" laying dormant within him.
  • Eldritch Abomination
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: His fondness for his eldest son Numbuh Zero is shown to be genuine, as he was shown to be disappointed with his non-evil life and still kept him in his will despite (or perhaps because of) his rebellion against him. Granted, he still fights him when necessary, but this is as close to a redeeming trait he has. He may care for his youngest son as well, but due to his abuse and contempt for his cowardice, it's really unclear.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Due to his Blue and Orange Morality, he really, really hates cowards. It's even the reason for his Parental Favoritism.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Played with. He does try to persuade Numbuh Zero to defect to his side, and is saddened when he refused. However, even when fighting him, he still cares for him (in his own bizarre way).
  • Evil Overlord: Once ruled the world with an iron fist before Numbuh Zero betrayed and defeated him.
  • Eviler Than Thou: To literally every villain in the Rogues Gallery once they find out his plan to turn everyone that's ever been a kid into Senor Citizombies includes them. Father actually outright states that Grandfather is eviler than him before reviving him, calling him "The World's Most Ultimate Evil".
  • Expy: He seems to be partially based on Aku from Samurai Jack—a black, shadowy monster who stands a couple stories tall in his natural state, can manipulate fire, has a pretty screwed-up morality code, and his very awakening pretty much spells doom for the whole world.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He's very polite and charming to pretty much everyone, even showing genuine care for his sons, but at no point there's any doubt he's a vicious monster who will do anything to accomplish his goals.
  • Fisher King: When he rules the world, he uses his Reality Warper abilities to convert into an old-style Crapsack World complete with child labor, Industral Era-style factories making tapioca pudding for him to eat.
  • Genre Savvy: Is smart enough to NOT underestimate Hope Springs Eternal and understands he hasn't really won until he's destroyed the Book of KND, which let Numbuh Zero defeat him the last time. And he also doesn't go out to find it until nearly the entire world is under his control and the Kids Next Door are all but destroyed.
  • Humanoid Abomination
  • Irony: His relationships with his sons in a nutshell. He loves and dotes on his oldest son Numbuh Zero, who rebelled against him and wants nothing to do with him; yet he despises his youngest son Father, who followed in his footsteps and desperately wants his approval.
  • Knight of Cerebus
  • Large Ham: Is an even bigger ham than his son.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Literally. He had his memory erased by Numbuh Zero using some kind of laser, reducing him to a harmless old man until he's "recommissioned" by Father. This actually seems to be the only way to defeat him, as all other attempts failed completely.
  • Morality Pet: Double subverted. Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero seems to be this, as he does like him as his son and considers him the favorite... but then tries to incinerate him when he turns on him without blinking an eye. However, he still liked Zero for the fact he was willing to stand up to him and give Grandfather something of a challenge. Before being decommissioned, he still has Zero in his will.
  • Nigh Invulnerability: His reaction to getting crushed under the entire Kids Next Door Moonbase is to dust himself off and ask if they really thought that would work.
  • No Ontological Inertia: His defeat restores the world to normal.
  • Physical God: He's the single strongest villain in the series and is capable of surviving a direct hit from a Colony Drop without even a scratch. He can also 'age' the entire world at will.
  • Playing with Fire: Father gets it from him.
  • Rapid Aging: His primary ability is to age everything he touches, though not only does he age them rapidly, he turns them into his 'Senor Citizombie' minions.
  • Reality Warper: He's capable of changing the world as he sees fit, normally to a more "old time" look.
  • Social Darwinist
  • Super-Powered Evil Side: His human form is a harmless old man so long as his memories aren't restored.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tapioca pudding, so much so that was one of the reasons he wanted to rule the earth.
  • Transformation Sequence: Unlike Father, who just grows his "shadow suit" back, Grandfather sucks in the shadows from everything in the room to form his after being reawakened in a much more elaborate fashion.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: To Father, to the point you can't help but feel sorry for the guy.
  • The Virus
  • Vile Villain Saccharine Show
  • You Got Spunk: The reason for his Parental Favoritism. He openly favors Monty over Ben because Monty was willing to openly defy him and give him a challenging fight, unlike Ben, who just complied to his orders and chickened out whenever things got dangerous.
  • Citizombie Apocalypse

Other Characters

Lizzie

Elizabeth Devine (Lizzie)

Numbuh One's demanding girlfriend. While she's quite clingy, she does genuinely care for Nigel, but his work for the Kids Next Door strains their relationship. Voiced by Grey DeLisle.

  • Badass Normal: Bonus points for not even being a KND Operative.
  • Betty and Veronica: Technically, she's the Betty to Rachel's Veronica, but she has more of a Veronica personality.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: More downplayed than the fandom thinks, but there's definitely a manipulative, short-tempered, controlling streak behind her sweet, Girl Next Door exterior.
  • Characterization Marches On: In her first appearance, she brainwashed Nigel into being her obediant boyfriend and even tried to make him destroy to his friends. The KND fight back and Nigel is unbrainwashed, but the episode ends with Lizzie getting the date she wanted anyway. Later episodes more or less completely ignored her origin story, and considerably softened her character.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl
  • Day in The Limelight: "Operation: L.U.N.C.H."
  • Easily Forgiven: Apparently Nigel and the rest of Sector V had no hard feelings over the little matter of her having originally tried to Brainwash him, though it's mostly just Numbuh One and Numbuh Three. Numbuh Two and Four openly dislike her, dreading any contact with her at all. They just don't verbalize it much due to fearing her bad temper (well, at least Numbuh Two fears her temper). Numbuh Five is tolerant of her at best.
  • Girl Next Door: Puns aside, she has the appearance of one. Keyword being "appearance".
  • Eye Glasses
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: About the only ones in Sector V who honestly like her are Numbuh One (her boyfriend) and Numbuh Three. Numbuhs Two and Four can't stand her, while Numbuh Five is at best tolerant.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She and Numbuh One eventually break up when she realizes the world needs him more than she does, and that his first loyalty will always be to the Kids Next Door.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: There are times her short fuse isn't entirely unwarranted, mostly concerning Nigel's Workaholic behavior.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's controlling, short-tempered and obsessive, but she can be kind to others and genuinely loves Nigel.
  • Lethal Chef: If your food seriously knocks out Numbuh Two, you more than qualify for this trope.
  • Let's Get Dangerous: When she's properly motivated (either by Numbuh One being in danger or her plans being interrupted one too many times), she's a mecha-commandeering force to be reckoned with.
  • The Load: On occasion.
  • Mood Swinger
  • Official Couple: Her and Numbuh One. They break up later, and actually she is the one who brought it up.
  • Opposites Attract: With Nigel. Deconstructed, as their differences prove too much for the relationship to survive.
  • Palette Swap: She has the same character model as one of the Delightful Children From Down The Lane.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She's Nigel/Numbuh One's girlfriend.
  • Tsundere: Oh, yes, sometimes dipping into Yandere'ish tendencies in her more extreme moods.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: To Nigel.
  • Woman Scorned: At worst.

Tommy Gilligan

Thomas "Tommy" Gilligan

Numbuh Two's little brother, Tommy is an excitable child ready to fight adult tyranny. Unfortunately, circumstances effectively halted his KND career. He now fights solo as "The Tommy". Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.

Numbuh Five: "I work alone! I am The Tommy!" He is definitely your brother, Numbuh Two.

The Kid

The Kid

A pilot in shades, The Kid is a rival pilot of Numbuh Two, and Numbuh Four's rival for Numbuh Three's affections. Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.

Monty Uno

Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero

He's Numbuh 1's father, a bumbling but well-meaning man obsessed with Sousaphone music and spending quality time with his son. Seemingly. In reality, he's the legendary Numbuh Zero, the founder of the KND, as well as being related to the main villains, Father and Grandfather. Voiced by Frank Welker.

  • Adorkable
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: How Numbuh One sees him. At least, when he's not Numbuh Zero.
  • Badass Moustache
  • Bald of Awesome: Like Father, Like Son.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Implied. His moniker, "Numbuh Zero", was given by Ben when he said there was "zero" chances of winning against him, and they've been shown to be close as children. Even after knowing his baby brother became Father, he still was willing to team up with him against his father.
  • Big Good: As Numbuh Zero.
  • Broken Ace: As Numbuh Zero. True, he was the founder and greatest hero of the KND, but this didn't come from a pleasant life. The reason he desperately tries to be a good dad to his son is because he doesn't want to be the horrible father Grandfather is, and doesn't want Nigel to suffer the same way he and his brother had.
  • Bumbling Dad: He's like this when decommissioned. As Numbuh Zero, on the other hand...
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Father's Cain, though subverted in that the brothers still care for each other, and Monty would rather fight their own dad over him.
  • Cool Big Bro: To Father. He may be jealous of him, but he's the only person he does seem to genuinely care for and has a healthy relationship with.
  • Cool Shades: See Numbuh One's shades? They were his before.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: A rare justified example. The "moron" part is largerly due to his decommissioning, and once recovering his memories, he proves how much of a badass he really is.
  • Good Parents: He even states this as his Goal in Life. And considering his family situation, it's not hard to see why.
  • Happily Married: To his wife.
  • Morality Pet: To his brother and, to a weirder degree, his father. Father is shown to genuinely care about him, mostly because he's the only person who has given him any love and affection in his mostly crappy life. Grandfather, while not willing to pull any punches, is very fond of him due to the fact he was willing to rebel against him.
  • My Hero Zero
  • Nice Guy
  • Papa Wolf: He will do anything for his son.
  • Parental Favoritism: He was very obviously Grandfather's favorite child. He doesn't want any of it.
  • Parental Obliviousness
  • Retired Badass
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Benedict/Father.
  • Thicker Than Water: He still cares about his brother Ben even after he became the villainous Father, most likely because he knows his fall into villainy is largerly Grandfather's fault. As for his dad, he has nothing but contempt for his Super Powered Evil Side, but he treats him kindly once transformed into a harmless old man.
  • Walking Spoiler: His identity as Numbuh Zero.
  • White Sheep
