No matter what range of emotion you're feeling towards another character, the best way to express it is to say their name—preferably in either a hoarse whisper or scenery-chomping cry. Even if no one's around to hear you, just thinking about that character is enough of a prompt. It's all but required if you're in the midst of rescuing your True Companions/Love Interest currently facing imminent doom, you're running towards each other in romantic rapture, or when your mortal enemy has simply gone too far. Sometimes those last two get confused.

Additionally, if your show features Loads and Loads of Characters this also serves a narrative purpose: When they appear again after not being seen for three arcs, clearly stating their name once more helps the viewer identify and remember them.

** The trope in shojo is probably as old as shojo itself. The 1970s series Candy Candy delights us with a scene where Candy and her best friend Annie are reconciled. *** In case of the Finnish dub it doesn't really help that the voice actors are clearly adult, and very recognisable as two of the maybe five female voices TV dubbing had at its disposal at the time. It's rather jarring to get love scene vibes with little girls on the screen, voiced by any combination of the following: The Moomins, The Smurfs, Tao Tao, Alfred J Kwak, The Care Bears, and Doctor Snuggles.

** Actually, that's Values Dissonance. In Japan, you rarely call people outside your own family by their first names unless you're very close to them, hence when Syaoran shifts from "Hey, You" (or "Kinomoto" in some dubs, to keep the meaning despite the language differences) to "Sakura", it's a BIG sign of both his crush on her and how he considers her a close ally and friend instead of his rival. ** Orihime notoriously repeats "Kurosaki-kun!" throughout the Hueco Mundo arc. Interestingly, during the end of the Lust mini-arc, the original version of the manga makes clear that it's a kind of Madness Mantra, in a way that no other medium, not even the original version of the anime, could do. Normally, Ichigo's name is written in kanji, but when Orihime just starts chanting it, she does so in hiragana. As this essayist puts it: "It's not a name anymore. It is syllables coming out of her mouth that sound like 'Kurosaki-kun,' evidence of her loss of elocution and mental stability."

Epic asskicking imminent.

Of course there are times (especially in Anime) when they overdo it (see Big Word Shout)...

Characters saying their own name can also fall under this trope, but if they do it incessantly, not for dramatic effect, that's Pokémon-Speak.

Many instances of this trope in Japanese works may also fall under First-Name Basis. In Japanese culture, it is customary to use last names plus an honorific (usually "san", sometimes "senpai" for one's elders, "kun" for underlings, "dono" or "sama" for works set in older times, etc.) when addressing someone else, even directly (they rarely use the pronoun for "you" in formal settings although they do have a few for informal situations). Children, especially girls, will often use first names with friends, although adults will usually only do this if they've been friends since childhood or are otherwise close buddies. But when a couple has moved ahead in their relationship, they will often switch to using first names as well. In media, the first time a character calls their romantic interest by their first name (whether out of affection or distress), the scene often ends up being an example of this trope.

Compare First-Name Basis, First Name Ultimatum and "You?" Squared, Skyward Scream. If you have a lot of people, all doing a "Say My Name" to each other, it's a Rocky Roll Call.

Contrast I Know Your True Name where speaking it has much more dangerous implications.

Not to be confused with the song of the same name by Destiny's Child, or the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha episode titled "なまえをよんで"..

Examples of this trope are often subjected to Memetic Mutation.

Examples of Say My Name include:

ADVERTISIIING!

Animated Spokesman: "For soft water, just call your Culligan man."
Animated Housewife: "HEY CULLIGAN MAN!!"

Allan! Allan! Allan! Al! Allan! Allan! ALLAN! Allan!
(later) Oh wait... That's not Allan. It's Steve.. Steve that... Steve..... Steve! Steve! STEVE! Steve! Steve!

• A line of Japanese Mentos commercials (starring Reuben Langdon no less) involved a couple who did nothing except yell each other's names.

ANIME AND MANGAAA!

• Tetsuo!
• Kaneda!
• These are actually listed as "memorable quotes" on imdb. So memorable, in fact, that quoting it on any forum or Image Board will inevitably lead to a whole thread of people quoting other examples of this trope; if it isn't used first, it will pop up eventually.
• One of the pioneers in this: JJJJOOOOOOOOEEEEEEE!!!!
• Katekyo Hitman Reborn: JYUUUUDDAAIIMEEEE!!!!
• There are actually entire compilations of all of Gokudera's "Jyuudaime"'s. It's very long.
• Slayers: LINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! said Love Interest Gourry at least once in the novels, manga, anime, games...
• Lina herself is prone to screaming out everyone else's names when they're in danger, namely in the second season of the anime.
• Very common in Shoujo Demographic. Many fans got their first taste of the anime-style of this with Fushigi Yuugi ("Miaka!" "Tamahome!") until it became a meme associated with that show. Suboshi also does this quite a bit in the fist OVA series: "Yui-sama! Yui-sama!!"
• The trope in shojo is probably as old as shojo itself. The 1970s series Candy Candy delights us with a scene where Candy and her best friend Annie are reconciled. A few minutes of "Candyyyy!" "Anniiie, oh Annie!" "Candyyyy!" "Annie!" "Oh Candy!" ping ponged with such strong feeling that (at least in the Finnish dub) you can close your eyes and see something else than little girls running towards each other on a meadow of fragrant blossoms and sparkling dewdrops...
• In case of the Finnish dub it doesn't really help that the voice actors are clearly adult, and very recognisable as two of the maybe five female voices TV dubbing had at its disposal at the time. It's rather jarring to get love scene vibes with little girls on the screen, voiced by any combination of the following: The Moomins, The Smurfs, Tao Tao, Alfred J Kwak, The Care Bears, and Doctor Snuggles.
• "DEEEEEDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Courtesy of Parn in the Record of Lodoss War OAV.
• Ginji from GetBackers: "BAAAAN-CHAAAAN!!!" "KAZU-CHAAAAN!!!"
• In the manga, Ginji greets Shido and Makubex respectively after his first time seeing them in ages: "Shido! Shido! Shido!" "Makubex! Makubex! Makubex!"... both multiplied by a few more times.
• Ginji actually greets all of his friends (even Maguruma!) by going Super-Deformed, calling their name and waving a fan with the kanji for "happiness" on it.
• Kazuki's "JUUUBEEEI!" in the first Infinity Fortress Arc when Juubei looks on the verge of death after his battle with Kazuki. The manga artist took the liberty of devoting almost a full-length page to the speech bubble.
• Emishi's "SHIDO-HAN!" speech bubble when it looks like Shido's been killed by Liu Mengyan's flunkies is almost that big.
• Hand Maid May lampshaded this, as the characters watch a cheesy soap opera whose cast communicates entirely this way to each other.
• Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch: "Kaito!" "Lucia!"
• In Simoun, the fact that Angulas didn't say Aaeru's name at one point was a plot point... as was the moment when she actually did. And in the final episode, Yun happens to say Dominura's name Meanwhile in the Future while thinking of her.
• Episode 13 of Tokyo Mew Mew: "Momomiya-san! Stop! Momomiya-san! ICHIGO!"
• The end of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha was called "Say My Name". Nanoha instructs Fate to call her by her name so that they can become friends, and Fate tries it out a few times.
• Episode 12 of A's has it also, with Vita repeatedly calling out Hayate's name.
• Vision of Escaflowne "Van!" "Allen!" "Hitomi!" No, seriously: Greater than 50% of Merle's dialogue consists solely of "Van-sama!!"
• Gantz: TAE-CHAAAAAAN!!! KEI-CHAAAAAAN!!!
• Cardcaptor Sakura anime, elevator scene with Syaoran and Sakura. Syaoran yells, "SAKURAAAAAAAAAA" as she plunges into the depths of wherever. As it is CLAMP, everything must be dramatic when Syaoran says Sakura's name for the very first time.
• Nagi of Hayate the Combat Butler calls out Hayate's name whenever she's in trouble, as does Nishisawa once or twice. He will always appear immediately out of nowhere to save the day once so summoned; on at least one occasion he even apparently waited out of sight until Nagi called out his name before saving her from a rampaging robot.
• This happens excessively - if ANYONE calls out for help, especially if they use his name, he will show up to help them. To the point that it's a shocking surprise in the few cases when he DOESN'T show up.
• Inuyasha: INUYASHA! KAGOME! This show takes name-yelling to new heights. Mercilessly parodied in a commercial for the show, with moments taken from all across the series' run.
• Which can be seen here.
• In Kikyou's debut sequence, her name was six or seven of Inuyasha's lines in a row.
• To get specific, Inuyasha says Kagome's name 568 times in the whole series, while Kagome says Inyuasha's 971 times—the majority of both being screams. Out of 167 episodes.
• "RANMA!!! AKANE!!!" moments are also very common in Ranma ½, Rumiko Takahashi's earlier work.

Ranma: BABYYYYY!

• Taken to the extreme in the teaser trailer for the third Bleach movie revolving around the two, where the all Ichigo screams is RUKIA!!!!! In the most anguished and dramatic way possible. The movie is actually tagged as "Fade to Black; Call out Your Name".
• The fandom has taken notice of this, so much that it is jokingly called the "Rukiagh" scream. As in...RUUUUUKIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHH!!!
• By the end of the Soul Society arc most of Rukia's lines consist of "Ichigo!!" "Renji!!" "Nii-sama!!"
• "AIZEN-TAAAAAAIIIIICHOOOOOOOOOOU!!!!"?
• Captain Sajin Komamura's enraged cry of betrayal: "KANAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"?
• And before that: AAAIIIIZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!
• "HINAMORI!" seemed to be Toushirou's catchphrase at a certain point in the manga.
• Orihime notoriously repeats "Kurosaki-kun!" throughout the Hueco Mundo arc.
• Also the NII-SAMAs we're getting in the Zanpakutou filler. Damn it, Rukia!
• There's a good deal of "CHAD!" as well.
• Even Yamamoto gets in on the 'calling names out loudly' trend in a less dramatic manner when he sees Ukitake and Kyoraku fall after consecutive attacks by Wonderweiss and Starrk.
• And now; TSUKISHIMA!!!!.
• The most epic one

Zangetsu: Retreat and you will age. Hesitate and you will die. SCREAM!! SAY MY NAME!!!
Ichigo: ZANGETSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

• There was a puzzle in the 2003 MIT Mystery Hunt (Whoa - I know Kiaido!) which consisted entirely of shots of characters doing this very thing.
• Fist of the North Star: "YURIAAAAAAAAA!!! YURIAAAAAAGGGGHGHGHGHGHH!!!" "KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!"
• Jagi is particularly fond of this trope. He also adds emphasis in the translated Hokuto Musou: "Say My Name, bitches!"
• The Gundam franchise loves this to death.
• Chobits: When Hideki is running to save Chii from being violated he yells "CHIIIII!" very loudly.
• Macross Frontier "OZMA!" "RAN-KA!!" "SHERYL!" "ALTO!!!" "MICHEEELLLLLLL!!"
• Digimon Adventure has an episode where Taichi and Yamato manage to knock each other off a cliff. Taichi manages to grab on to the cliff with one hand while Yamato grabs onto him with one hand. Say My Name ensues.
• Digimon Adventure does this kind of thing a lot, several of the first evolutions to Champion level (at least) were proceeded by a round (or two) of Say My Name between the kids and their partner digimon.
• From Digimon Savers, KURAAAAATTTTTAAAAA!!!!!!
• DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMONNNNNN!!!!!!!
• Minami-ke's Show Within a Show "Sensei and Ninomiya-kun". SENSEIII! NINOMIYA-KUN!
• Very common in Ai Yori Aoshi.
• Heroic Age is all about this. In any scene in which she appears, Princess Dhianeila will say "Age," (pronounced "Ay-ee-gee") the name of the Wild Child protagonist. Problem is, given the insane level of telepathy she has, i's entirely possible that she is contacting him directly, though no evidence of this is ever shown in the series.
• In Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shinji does this in his dreams. Shinji has a LOT of these moments, and it spells out a lot of how he relates to various people. Adults get (first name-san), Rei is always just Ayanami, Kaworu is "Kaworu-kun", Asuka is the only one he's on a first-name basis with (even calling for help).
• And Asuka also is constantly telling -or yelling- his.
• Episode 16 had Rei, of all people, doing this. In the English dub, this is also the only time when he referred to Shinji via his first name in an almost whispering voice - Asuka took notice but didn't comment.
• The English dub of Rebuild 1.0 had Shinji calling out Rei's first name no less than seven times when he thought that she got fried by Ramiel.
• The Take My Hand scene at the end of Rebuild 2.0 resulted in "AYANAMI!!!" exactly three times.
• Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: NIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
• When the Anti-Spiral bites the dust, the whole Dai-Gurren Brigade does SIIMOOOOON!!! when it turns out the Lagann survived.
• To a smaller extent, Viral does the same just prior to ripping the Lagann out of Gurren and throwing it at the Anti-Spiral.
• Might not count, but episode 8 has Simon yelling ANIKIIIIIII!!! when it looks like Kamina died. He did, but not for a few more minutes.
• By the last few episodes of S-Cry-ed, 50% of the dialogue was: "KAZUMA!" "RYUHOU!"
• Future Trunks has a memorable "FFFUUURRRIIIIIZZZAAAAAAAAAA!!!" in Dragon Ball Z.
• Parodied in the Fullmetal Alchemist manga when Hohenheim and Alphonse reunite."Father!" "My vintage suit of armour!"
• Sailor Moon. "USAKOOOOO!" "MAMO-CHAAAAAAAN!" "USAGI-CHAAAAAAN!" "USAGIIIIIIIIII!" (from Rei)
• At the end of season 4 "Helios!" "Chibi-usa!" "That's the first time... you said my name."
• "SERENITY!" "ENDYMIOOOOOOOON!"
• In Toushou Daimos, this is also featured in form of "KAZUYAAAAAAA!!!" "ERIKAAAAAA!!!!" Fans see this as a precursor of the one regarding about "Miaka!" "Tamahome!" as listed above.
• Many times between Renton and Eureka in Eureka Seven, usually when one is falling through the sky and the other is trying to catch them in a mecha.
• Also, "ANEMONEEEEEEEEEE!"
• Magic Knight Rayearth: "HIKARU! UMI! FUU!" It's almost as prevalent as the Kingdom Hearts example mentioned below.
• Naruto: SASUKE! Gaara calls him "Uchiha Sasuke" so many times while the two of them are fighting (both whispered and shouted) that you could make a drinking game out of it, as at least one episode reviewer observed.
• And from their fight after the Chunin exams: "NARUTOOOOOO!" "SASUKEEEEEE!"
• 'Sasuke-kun' was young Sakura's... catch-phrase? Half her dialogue? Anyway, she said it so constantly for so long that any of her voice actresses must have either been writhing or taking it as a personal challenge to find out how much variety they could get out of this one line over and over and over again.
• The Guardian Ninjas filler arc also has Asuma and his enemy and former friend Kazuma yelling each other's names a lot, and Naruto often yells Sora's name. Later on, people yell Asuma's name quite often around the time that he dies.
• Especially at the very end of episode 79, from Shikamaru: "...ASUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
• There's also Hinata's "Naruto-kun...", although it's rarely shouted.
• Lampshaded in an omake in Shippuden. Kakashi teases Hinata about her stammering "Naruto-kuns" in a recent episode being a big hit with the male viewers. That inspires Sakura to launch into a long litany of "Naruto-kuns" herself, as Kakashi and Hinata call out different moods for her to act out with each one.
• Naruto also likes to shout "SAKURA-CHAN!" quite a lot.
• "Gai-sensei!" "Lee!" "Gai-sensei!" "Lee!"
• Fate/stay night: "SEIBAAA!" "SHIROU!"
• "Kotomine....KIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEIIIIIII!"
• Yufa from Ragnarok the Animation: "KEOUGH NII-SAN!!"
• Judai from Yu-Gi-Oh GX had always been incredibly fond of saying peoples' names, but when it came to Johan, he really pulled out all the stops. Poor Asuka's lines in all of seasons 3 and 4 were reduced to her just saying "Judai..." in moments when it looked like he was in a tough corner, and "Judai!" when it looked like he was in serious trouble.
• The regular Yu-Gi-Oh gets this a lot, too. As does the Other Yugi (or "Mou Hitori No Boku" - "other me".) And Jounouchi. And Anzu. And... well, a lot of people, really.
• Blood Plus: "SAAAAAAAAAAYYYAAAAAAAAA!" Then, when the person speaking is Saya, it will inevitably become "DIVA!"
• Shakugan no Shana: "SHANA!!!" "YUJI!!" <-- Actually of Plot importance, because Shana actually got her name from Yuji, and Yuji is usually not referred to by his name by the Flame Haze, because they consider him an object rather than a person.
• "He didn't even ask if I WANTED a name... Sha... na."
• Played with in Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex: when Batou yells 'MOTOKOOOOOOOO!!!', only to later find out she's perfectly fine, and the other Section 9 members tease him about it.
• But used straight in The Movie during the climax when the Puppet Master's body is blown to hell and Motoko appears to have died after merging with him. She gets better after finding a new body.
• More about the immediate issue that her head had been blown clean off by the snipers, as well. Thankfully Batou's and the Puppetmaster's interference resulted in the severed head itself staying intact, so the braincase could be put into a new body.
• Also used in the Stand Alone Complex PlayStation 2 game, where the antagonist had a cybernetic body that had the exact same specs as the Major's own. Batou singled out the impostor by yelling "MOTOKOOOOOOOOOO!!!" and shooting the one that reacted.

The Major: "So, how did you know that that wasn't me?"
Batou: "I just knew... Besides, you'd never react just 'cause I called out your name."

• Princess Mononoke: "ASHITAKAAAAAAA!" "SAAAAAAAAN!"
• Used often in Princess Tutu, particularly in two climactic scenes in the second season. (Some fans were jarred when the dub's decision to translate the main character's name to keep Theme Naming meant that Fakir screams DUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! in one such scene.)
• The very first line in the anime of D.N.Angel is actually an example of this trope: DAAAAAAAAARK!!!
• More plot significantly, the scene where Daisuke calls Riku by her name when he tells her he's in love with her, not her sister Risa. Up to that point he'd always called both of them "Harada-san", prompting her to angrily complain she can't tell which one of them he's referring to. Annoyingly subverted both in that he still uses "-san" to a girl he's going out with, and she still calls him "Niwa-kun".
• At the absolute end of Vandread where, for the first time in the series, Hibiki calls to Dita by her name.
• Romeo X Juliet: ROMIOOOOOOOOOO! JURIETTOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
• .hack: "SHUUUGOO!" "REEENAAA!" Particularly when Rena is kidnapped in-game.
• Axis Powers Hetalia: "ITALIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
• "ENGLAAAAAND!"
• (faints) "LATVIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
• "DOITSUUUUUUUUU!"
• Rurouni Kenshin: "KAORU-DONO!!!!" "KENSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!"
• Code Geass: "LELOOOOOUUUCH!" "SUZAKUUUUUU!" "SHIRLEEEEEEY!" "NUNALLYYYYYYY!" "Xingke, Xingke, Xingke!"
• Naoto! Inoue! Euphy! Chigusa. ZERO!!! Anya! Xingke! Raksha... The list goes on. Some names even come up multiple times.
• Not the name but close enough. ONII-SAMAAAAA!!!! It's a Tear Jerker.
• Watashiwa...ZEROOOOOOOOOO!
• ZEROOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!?????
• Episode 10 of R2 has Lelouch one-upped on the battlefield by Xingke. Cue "XIIIINGKEEEE!!!"
• Full Metal Panic!: "KAAASHIIIM!!" "GAUUUROOOON!!!"
• Trinity Blood: "Kill me, Esther!" "Your lordship!" "Kill me, Esther!" "Your lordship!" "Look. Here's a sword, Esther. Seriously, kill me." "Your lordship!"
• In One Piece, whenever a character gets injured in a battle that other crew members are watching or participating in, someone close to them typically yells their name. Examples include Sanji yelling his female crewmates' names, Nami yelling Robin's name and Robin yelling Chopper's name. Interestingly enough, When Usopp is disguised as Sogeking, in desperate situations, his crewmates yell out his real name, rather than his assumed one, even though they're playing along with his masquerade.

Luffy: ACCCCCEEEEEEEEE!
Ace: LUUUUUUUFFFFFY!

• The Prince of Tennis: "YUKIMURAAAAA!!".
• SIR. INTEGRA. FAIRBROOKE. WINGATES. Hellsing..!
• "Acknowledge my approval! ALUCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD!"
• "I'VE HAD ENOUGH, ANDERSOOOOOON!!!!!"
• "YUMIEEEEE!!!!"
• And in the much rarer quietly-spoken variant: "Seras. Seras Victoria."
• Also quieter, but scary: "Rip. Van. Winkle..."
• Pokémon: "PIKAPI!" "PIKACHUUU!!" In the recent movies, Pikachu will be replaced with Dawn (though Pikachu can still be put in danger).
• Pikachu is still the king of this trope in the movies. Dawn hardly ever yells anyone's name.
• Ash seems to yell "Pikachu!" or "TEAM ROCKET!" at least once an episode.
• This trope's dramatic effect is lost, but it is still used in the Orre games. In XD, it causes the called Pokemon to focus and heighten its accuracy. In both games, it also snapped a Pokemon out of any induced slumber. Most importantly, however, it's one of only three ways to snap a Shadow Pokemon out of Hyper and Reverse Modes, a state not even the Pokemon Center can cure.
• In Zone of the Enders Dolores, I Dolores only used her Vector Trap "vanishing tricks" after James Links pleading using her name which he had never mentioned before to her, he just call her "ojou-chan".
• Bakugan Battle Brawlers: When his Guardian Bakugan Wyvern is destroyed, the only thing Joe can do is helplessly scream her name over and over again.
• A cute version of this in Eyeshield 21: after dutifully keeping Sena's secret and cheering only for "Eyeshield 21," Suzuna joyfully cries "SENAAA!!" when he finally reveals himself.
• The ending theme of Rose of Versailles ends with Andre's heartfelt cry of "Oscar... OSCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARR!!!!"
• In Monster, we have Wolfe, who demands that Tenma says his name before he dies. (Having one's name stripped away is an ongoing theme, and that character is a particularly good example thereof.)
• And we have Tenma and Nina crying and breathing each other's names every time they see each other. Pent up sexual tension much?
• Saint Seiya: "ATHEEEEENAAAAAAA!" "SAORI-SAAAAAAAAN!" "MARIIIIIIIN!" "MAAAAASTEEEEEEER!" "SEEEEEEIYAAAAAAA!" "SHIIIIIRYUUUUUU!" "BROOOOTHEEEEER!"
• Joshua Christopher in Chrono Crusade combines this with a Madness Mantra in the manga: "Sis. Sis. Sis." And then there's Aion shouting "PANDAEMONIUM!!!!" several times in rage in the manga, Chrono calling for "ROSETTE!" when she's in danger, and more examples that would make this line much longer than it needs to be.
• F-Zero: "CAPTAIN FALCON!!!"
• Parodied in Negima!? Variety CD Drama 2 Track 5, "KonoSetsu Radio."

Konoka: Secchan!
Setsuna: Kono-chan!
Konoka: SECCHAN!!
Setsuna: KONO-CHAN!!!
Chisame: Argh! That's enough! CUT! CUT! What a stupid couple radio!

• "YUUUUUUUUUUKI!" Gravitation
• "YUUUUUUUUUUKI!" Fruits Basket
• "YUUUUUUUUUUKI!" Cardcaptor Sakura
• Busou Renkin: "KAZUUUUUUUUUUUUUKIIIIIIIIII!" Every single episode.
• In episode 6: "CHONOOOOOOOOOO!" "MUTOOOOOOOOOO!" * faints*
• Gungrave: "BRAAAAAAAAANDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!"
• And on the video game's side: "I've protected you this far, Grave. Now, I need you... * timer hits 0* BEYOND. THE. GRAVE!"
• Berserk: "GRIFFITH!"
• Wolfs Rain. "Cheza!" "Kiba!" "Cheza!" "Kiba!"
• Zatch Bell: ZEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOON! STOP FAUDOOOOOOOOOOO!"
• Used many times in Soul Eater, with most of the main characters getting the chance to do this at least once.
• "MAKAAAAA!!!" "SOOOOURUUUUU!!!" "BURAKKU&# 9734;SUTAA!!!" "TSUBAKI!!!" "KIDDDDDDDO!!!!"
• in more detail anime only episode 6 - Black&# 9734;Star: "We can still be friends right?" Soul:"BAKAYAROOO OF COURSE!!!" Black&# 9734;Star: "SOOOORRRRUUUUU!" Soul:"BURAKKUSTAAAA!" Black&# 9734;Star: "SOOOORRRRUUUUU!" Soul:"BURAKKUSTAAAA!"
• In the last few episodes of Victorian Romance Emma, all Emma does is to whisper the name of the person that is currently talking to her. The manga (not finished at the time) has a completely different ending, and she can still speak in full sentences there.
• Kaiji: "SAHARAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
• I'm surprised no one's mentioned this, but if you made a drinking game with non-alcoholic beer out of how often any character would say "Kaiji!" or "Kaiji-kun!!" in a scene, you'd die of alcohol poisoning by the end of the 3rd episode.
• Through the course of Arashi no Yoru ni, Mei and Gabu speak/yell the other's name in times of peril and/or uncertainty.
• Parodied by Ah-chan's friends in one episode of Aoi Hana.
• And played straight when Yasuko calls Fumi's name during their date.
• Umineko no Naku Koro ni: BEATORICHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
• HARUKAAAAAA!!! from Noein.
• Mazinger Z: "KOUJI-KUUUUUUN!" SAYAKA-SAAAAAAN!" Kouji and Sayaka often yelled each other's name when one of them was in danger... or when they were pissed off at each other... which happened often since they were the prototype of couple formed by an Idiot Hero and a Tsundere.
• Durarara!!: IIIIIIIII-ZAAAAAAAAAA-YAAAAAAAAAAA! appears to be Shizuo's favorite word in the Japanese language.
• Battle Royale: Did it, YUTAKAAAAAAAAA!!!!
• Medaka Box: Medaka overjoyed that Zenkichi is not dead and realizing that he is a Badass Normal.
• Kyou Kara Maoh has lead Shibuya 'The Messiah' Yuuri at the center of everyone's attention, all the time, with one or two notable examples. So he gets his name called so constantly that heika! ('your majesty'--he's king, it's the premise) is the most common word in the script, since he gets it from Gunter constantly, Conrad regularly, and Gwendal in extreme circumstances, as well as from random subjects and people he's just met. Conrad also calls him Yuuri in intense situations on and off, depending on how he's feeling, and Wolfram's impassioned exclamations of his fiance's name are to be counted on anytime anything dangerous happens, like he thinks it'll somehow protect the wimp. Shori is also good for a 'Yuuri' or 'Yu-chan' pretty reliably, and Murata comes out with a good number of dramatic 'Shibuya's.
• Yuuri himself, meanwhile, does plenty of name-calling. Especially Conrad, especially during the Arm Arc.
• There are other instances of names being scrupulously avoided: Murata whenever he goes to talk to Shinou in the temple is a good example, as well as the way Murata and Shori choose to address each other: 'Friend of my little brother' and 'older brother of my friend,' and Wolfram's determined address of his brother Conrad as 'Weller-kyo.'
• This last spectacularly shattered in the scene at the burnt church where Yuuri and Conrad are both missing, presumed dead, and then they find Conrad's severed arm... COOOOOOOONRAAAAAAAAAAADD! Tops most of his 'Yuuri's.
• Kimagure Orange Road: Ushiko-san! Ushiko-san! -- Umau-san! Umau-san! Unusual in that they are very minor characters; this was all they said.
• Played straighter by Kyouske: "Hikaru-chan! Ayukawa!"
• Episode 8 and 9 of Rozen Maiden treat us time and again to "KAAAZUUUKIIIII!"
• Et Cetera gives us the regular "MINGCHAO!!!", most of it being delivered by Baskerville.
• The majority of Wataru's dialogue directed towards Misturu in the Brave Story anime is him screaming "ASHIKAWAAAAAA!". Repeatedly.
• This is taken to ridiculous levels in an issue of Manga/Gunm, where a character desperately needs to call out to another but due to complicated circumstances can't say her name. So what does she say? A "Where are you?" or "Can you hear me?" would have done nicely. But instead she says nothing. Seriously.
• In Hana Kimi, a remembered sex scene features Nanba and Kanako yelling each others names, which apparently turns them on...?
• Lone Wolf and Cub: Papa!
• While not extremely prominent in Ouran High School Host Club, the very last episode of the anime... "HARUHIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!" "SENPAI!!" Not surprising, Tamaki is much more dramatic about it than Haruhi.
• This trope is also parodied in episode 19 when the girls from Lobelia academy force Haruhi to be in their play, where she is cast as the helpless maiden opposite Benio as the male protagonist. Her only line is "Frederick-sama" which she says over and over in the same monotone voice.
• Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru: Hotsuma does this when Shuusei is discovered to be missing. Complete with some Gray Rain of Depression.
• He does it again in episode 11 when he finally finds Shuusei.
• Zero Seven Ghost: Teito is also very fond of saying/yelling/whispering his best friend's name.
• "MIKAGEEEEE!!!"
• Heroman: "Hiiiiromaaan!" "JYOOOOOIIIIIIIII!!!!"
• Yu Yu Hakusho features the male leads shouting the names of whoever is in danger at the moment. "KUWABARA!!!" "URAMESHI!!!"
• Death Note: "Matsuda!!!!!"
• The 1970's anime of The Little Mermaid has Fritz the Whale say:

Fritz: "Maaarrriiiiiiiiinnnaaaa!"

'Go: "FLY! MAGNUUUUM!"

• Getter Robo: Every time Musashi dies, we're greeted with this:

Ryouma: "MUSASHIIIIIIIIIII!"

• Getter Robo Armageddon has two awesome moments coming from Go:

Go: [after being released] "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGE! SHIIIIIIIIIIN DRAAAAAAGOOOOOOOON!"
Go: [after realizing who the pilot of Black Getter is] "RYYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUMAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

• Weaponized at the climax of Persona 4 As Yu is being absorbed into Ameno-Sagiri, the entire Investigation Team calls out to him, simultaneously evolving their Personas into their ultimate form. SEMPAAAAIII!/YU-SEMPAAAI!/YUUUUUUU!/NARUKAMIIIII!
• Weiss Kreuz gives us Aya running down halls waving a sword over his head, screaming "TAAAKAAATOOORIII!"

COMIC BOOOOOKS!

• Fantastic Four: "RRRRIIIIICCCHHHHAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRDDDDDDSSSS!!!"
• X-Men are prone to this a lot, given the Loads and Loads of Characters.
• Earth X has an unusual example: Uatu the Watcher has spent thirteen issues referring to Machine Man, aka Aaron Stack, by his model number, X-51, to emphasize that he is a robot and should have no loyalty to humanity—indeed, no human emotion at all. In the final issue, after being cut off from his sensory feed and left helpless, Uatu calls after him pleadingly: "X-51? X-51, please. ...Aaron?"
• Superman shouting Mongul's name after freeing himself of the Black Mercy in "For the Man Who Has Everything." The force of the shout knocks Robin clean off his feet, and lets Mongul know he's only got a fraction of a second before Superman plows into him.
• Invoked in a recent Hulk story wherein the title character's alter ego Bruce Banner makes this comment to a screaming Doctor Doom right after helping to take him down.
• That was something of an Ironic Echo; a few pages earlier Doom had been fighting a Hulk robot that was screaming "DOOOOOM" as it pummeled him. As Doom turned the tables on the robot, he said "Once more...with feeling...say my name!"
• Invoked in Captain Marvel's origin story, when the ancient wizard commands Billy Batson to speak his name: SHAZAM
• In the Batman storyline Knightfall, Bane attempts to make Batman scream his name for mercy. Batman tells him "Go back to Hell" and Bane promptly breaks him. Years later, in the one-shot Batman: Bane, Batman finally does shout Bane's name. It's not for mercy, though, it's in frustration - the villain escaped capture.
• Hal. Ollie.
• Used by Empowered during sex. "What's... my... name?"

Thugboy: Which one, baby?!

FIIIILM!

• In Ever After, in a heartwarming scene where Prince Henry returns to rescue Danielle (not that she needs much rescuing), he makes an apology for being a complete Jerkass. Danielle tells him to say it again, and he apologizes... but she says "No, the part where you say my name."
• It can be quite the Crowning Moment of Heartwarming when you remember that the prince only knew Danielle by a pseudonym for the majority of the movie.
• There's also the bit where he tells her to call him Henry instead of "Your Highness" (which is how he demanded she refer to him as when he discovered she was actually a commoner).
• Watch Titanic with a notepad and write down how many times the names "Jack" and "Rose" are called out between the two characters. Even if you don't make a Drinking Game out of it, your vision will still swim by the first hour of the movie.
• Similarly, try keeping track of how often the hero's name is said in Beowulf, most notably in the sea monster fight ("BEEEEEEOOWUUUUUULLLLF!"). There are quite a few shout of "I am Beowulf!" in there (of varying volume and pacing), and Wiglaf even gets the odd "You are Beowulf!".
• American Pie:

Michelle: "What's my name? Say my name, bitch!"
Jim: "Michelle! Michelle."

Elizabeth: Will!
Will: Elizabeth!
Jack Sparrow: Monkey!

• SPAYNIARD! SPAYNIARD! SPAYNIARD! And then : MAXIMOUSE! MAXIMOUSE! MAXIMOUSE!
• The Graduate. The glass-pounding scene in the church with the titular graduate screaming "ELAINE!" at the top of his voice (twenty times!) definitely counts.
• Probably at least half of the dialogue of WALL-E and EVE consists of their own and each other's names. The third most common word, I believe, is "directive."
• EVE is rarely pronounced correctly though. On account of WALL-E pronouncing the sounds individually (ee va) many people may think that EVE's name actually is EVA.
• The Dark Knight Saga
• A variant when Harvey Dent, after getting half his face burned off, demands that Jim Gordon tell him the nickname the cops had for him when he was an investigator in Internal Affairs. "'Two-Face'. 'Harvey Two-Face'."
• The scene just before that. RACHEL!! RACHEL!!!

Maggie: Mike! Mike!
Mike: Maggie! Debbie!
Debbie: Peppy!

Mal: Every heist he's gotta start yelling my name.

• The Neverending Story: "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILD!"
• Bastian can only cure the Empress and save Fantasia by giving her a new name, and shouting it aloud. Because there's a storm and Barrett Oliver shouts the name incoherently, it's impossible to tell what name Bastian picked. Possibly this was intentional, although in the original book, the new name of the Empress was explicitly stated and everybody in Fantasia learned it.
• Godzilla: GOOOODZILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
• Even for a traumatized father, Marlin from Finding Nemo is using the word "NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMOOOOOOOO!" way too much.
• In Slumdog Millionaire, Jamal sees that his love interest has met him at the train station like promised and happily yells out "Latika! Latika!" This soon changes to a horrified "LATIKAAA!" when he looks behind her and sees his brother racing after her to drag her back to the gang leader she was trying to escape from.

• In the film version of Outlaw of Gor, protagonist Tarl Cabot's name is said fifty-five times in the first ten minutes alone (IMDB's count), mostly by Cabot's annoying, wormy friend.

• The final battle of Transformers. Optimus Prime arrives in the city and confronts Megatron (who had just killed Jazz). They haven't seen each other in over 10,000 years. Their first words to each other?

Optimus Prime: MEGATRON!
Megatron: PRIIIIIME!

Optimus seemed rather angry to see Megatron alive and well (well, the fact he was holding the corpse of one of his friends didn't help), whereas Megatron seemed almost happy to see the former.

• Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah likes to say his own name a lot.
• In the Back to The Future movies, Doc and Marty do plenty of this. Also, regardless of the decade, or even the century, a Tannen will address Marty with "Hey, McFly!"
• Two words: Frau Blücher.
• *whinny*
• Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva: "LUUUUUUKE!"
• Highlander II the Quickening gives us a glorious mid-quickening "RAAMMIRRREEEEEZ!!!" after Connor kills General Katana's two henchmen. Then we learn that the quickening has the never-seen-before-or-after power to bring people back to life by screaming their names. As you might be able guess by the fact that someone is named "General Katana", this movie is not very good.
• An effective twist appears in the film Inkheart. The camera shows us Resa yelling Meggie's name as Meggie is being shoved away by guards, but since she is mute there is no sound.
• In Rush Hour 2 Lee and Carter have what they think is a bomb but can't decide what to do with it, then Hilarity Ensues

• RYYYYDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRR!!!
• In a beautiful bit of subversion, the 2009 short film Being Carl Williams sees actor Gyton Grantley confused for real life underworld killer Carl Williams (whom he played in the TV series Underbelly). His desperate efforts to convince his assailants that he's not the real Carl Williams are not helped when the man they want 'Carl' to kill spots Gyton Grantley for the first time, likewise confused him for Carl Williams, and immediately launches into this trope.
• "SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
• In The Ten Commandments, Seti I reluctantly commands that the name "Moses" must be stripped from every monument and text in Egypt. This was really how the Egyptians made you an Unperson and banned your soul from the next life. It also explains why Moses isn't mentioned in Egyptian documents. Cecil B. DeMille resurrects the historical Moses and grants him passage to heaven by having everybody say his name.

LITERATUUURE!

Oberyn: "EEEEEEELIIIIIAAAAA!"

• Jack Higgins' (writing as James Graham) The Wrath of God: Emmett Keogh was already kicking ass in a fight with a bandit. Then he took his eyes off his apparently beaten opponent for a moment, the villain got up with a knife ... and Emmett's mute girlfriend found her voice for the first time in five years, screaming his name in warning. That gave Keogh such a charge that the bandit threw away his knife before turning and running.

• Twenty Four had this in the form of "JOSH!" "UNCLE JACK!" "JOOOSSSHH!" "UNCLE JAAAAACK!" close to the end of the sixth season. Just one factor out of many why 24 fans like to pretend season six was just a bad dream.
• Lost: WAAAAAAAALLLLLLLTTTT!
• Hurley screams "Jack!" in the series finale.
• Doctor Who, new series: "Use my name!" "...Master." Repeated later: "Doctor." "Master." "I like it when you use my name."
• And how many times did we hear "ROOOOOSSSEEE!" or "MARTHA!" or "DONNA!" or even "DOCTOR!"?
• One interesting twist happened in "Partners in Crime". Donna and the Doctor see each other for the first time through windows on opposite sides of a room that they are both spying on. Cue completely silently mimed shouts of "DONNA!" and "DOCTOR!"
• Parodied in The IT Crowd: Douglas Reynholm bursts into his father's funeral, takes off his sunglasses, gets his bearings, and when he's sure he's got everyone's attention lets out an anguished "FATHEEEERRRRRRRRRRR!"
• Parodied in several Monty Python's Flying Circus sketches, where the detectives' ridiculous names are always echoed after they introduce themselves:

Lookout: This house is surrounded. I must ask that no one leave the room. I'm Chief Superintendent Lookout.
Lady Velloper: Lookout!
Lookout: What? Where? Oh, me - Lookout. Lookout of the Yard.
Lady Velloper: Why, what would we see?
Lookout: I'm sorry?
Lady Velloper: What would we see if we look out of the yard?

• Also, "The Semaphore Version of Wuthering Heights" is full of this, despite having no spoken lines.
• Another sketch has a policeman coming on and arresting the cast for "always saying 'It's so-and-so of the Yard' every time the fuzz arrives."

• TV's Frank, on finding the movie "Squanto: A Warrior's Tale" has come and gone at the theater while he held a $1000 scalped ticket waiting for it. SQUANTO-O-O-O-O-O!!!
• Sherlock Holmes: In the 1980s Granada production of "The Final Problem", Watson, knowing that Holmes has gone to meet Moriarty and probably his own death, repeatedly calls his friend's name over the roaring of Reichenbach Falls.
• In a film adaptation of The Odyssey, Odysseus calls out to Poseidon several times after he decimates his crew in revenge for blinding the Cyclops.
• Heroes: MY NAME IS SYLAR!!!
• Curious variation in The Tudors: Since nobody calls Henry by his name, for obvious reasons, the show has treated us to more than one somewhat narmful shot of people desperately shouting "Majesty!" as they are dragged off to the Tower of London or just snubbed by the king.
• Fortysomething: PILFREY!
• Higher Ground: SCOTT! SCOOOOTT!
• That Mitchell and Webb Look: HENNIMOOOOOOOOOORREE!!!!
• Pushing Daisies plays this straight and lampshades it:

Olive Snook: I also heard you walking the streets and moaning [Chuck's] name like in a Tennessee Williams.

• Merlin: Arthur! Go faster!
• Boston Legal: Danny Crane lies somewhere between this trope and Verbal Tic. Sometimes he says his own name to punctuate something awesome he's just done. And sometimes after breaking wind.
• Primeval: HELEN!
• Boy Meets World: MR FEENY! Used so often it was politely dubbed "the Feeny Call".
• This happens at least once in Without a Trace when Martin gets shot. Badly. Danny says his name twice, quietly and shakily.
• Sam and Dean of Supernatural. Bonus points if Dean says Sammy.
• The Big Bang Theory: WHEATOOOOOOONNNNNN!
• The West Wing: MRS. LANDINGHAM!
• Top Gear: OLIVERRRR!!!
• Seinfeld: "Newman!"
• In The Twilight Zone episode "Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room", the main character (Jackie) receives a phone call from George. We know it's George because Jackie says his name 16 times in the call that lasts less than a minute. When George shows up in the hotel room, Jackie calls George by his name 24 times. When George leaves, Jackie says his name another six times while he's all alone in the room, then when George shows up again, Jackie says his name another five times. This gives a grand total of 51 times that George's name is said in a 22-minute episode.
• Farscape: CHRICHTON!!!
• Former WCW and WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg caused fans to chant "GOOOOOOLD-BERG! GOOOOLD-BERG!" during his entrance; combined with his epic entrance music (and his streak), it helped sell him as a Badass.
• In Over There episode 3, Hassan and his sister Sawa did this when they met each other.
• Manos A La Obra: BEENIIIIITOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!. Also The Khan and Once an Episode.
• Sherlock: "SHERLOCK!" It's muffled through a window, which lessens the impact, but the fact that there's a dramatic echo (as well as an appropriate choice in soundtrack) helps.
• Happens again in The Reichenbach Fall, this time clearly audible.
• In the series 3 finale of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Lynley's beloved partner Barbara Havers is shot. All Lynley can manage is a frantic shout of "Havers!!!" and then a hoarse whisper of "Barbara? Barbara???"
• The Brady Bunch episode in the Grand Canyon brought us the infamous “BOBBY! CINDY!”
• Dexter gets one when Trinity escapes him again: "ARTHUUUUUUUUURRR!!!"
• Also, from the third season: MIGUEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLL!!!!!!!! (it was all in his head, but still).
• Mash: In "Operation Noselift", Hawkeye can't say more than a sentence to or about his friend Stosh without saying his name.
• Eastenders: RICKAAAY!
• Someone once counted the number of times Horatio Hornblower said "Archie." One episode had 21 instances.
• True Blood has Sookie; the girl's name is repeated endlessly by her lover Bill; One episode had 36 instances. This fact and Bill's accent have turned this into a Memetic Mutation: Sookeh!. This was parodied in one episode by Sookie herself. AND, as if the Say My Name in-show was not enough Snoop Dogg made a song called "Oh Sookie" about the character that had her name in every verse of the song.
• Clark, before saving the Damsel in Distress, ALWAYS pauses to say his/her name before zooming off.
• Highlander, when Duncan finds his friend dead in his church. "DAAARRRRIIUUSSSS!!! DARIUS!"

Elphaba: Nessa... Doctor Dillamond... Fiyero... FIYERO!!

• Bill Sykes gets a musical number devoted to this trope in Oliver!. It is sometimes cut from performances, though.
• In Memphis, at the start of Act Two when Huey gets his own TV show in the song "Crazy Little Huey", both Huey and some dancers from the show proceed to sing "Hueeey!" (Huey himself singing "the name is Hueeeey!") a few times before the final "crazy little Huey is on your TV!"
• From Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire: "STELL-LAHHHHH!" (That's exactly as it appears in the script.)

• Dante and Trish do this quite a bit in Devil May Cry 1. 'Dante!' 'Trish!'
• Devil May Cry 4: "Kyrie! KYRIE! I swear it! I swear I'm going to get us out of here! TOGETHER, KYRIE! KYRIE!"
• MUNDUUUS!!!
• Parodied by a genius on deviantart.
• Inverted in Kill Switch: part of the game's Mind Screw flashback story is a mystery girl's insistent question that the main character say her name. The trope's name itself is Arc Words for the game.
• Ninja Gaiden II (part of the original trilogy for the NES) had Ryu Hayabusa and his love interest Irene Lew doing this constantly.
• Half-Life: FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
• Kingdom Hearts, especially the sequel, often has people refer to Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy non-collectively and in exactly that order.
• In Kingdom Hearts II, Tron's new password is the heroes' names, which gets shouted dramatically by the heroes themselves.
• Considering they're talking to an anthropomorphic duck and dog, plus a kid with an unbeatable hairdo and a giant key, they're probably just saying the names to assure themselves they're not insane.
• Here's a video that shows nearly every instance of this. Granted, there is one time in the game where they are addressed as "Donald, Sora, Goofy." This is only because Donald got there first.
• What's particularly amusing is that if the names are being said in a sweet way, Goofy sounds like the most important person in the group because the emphasis ends up being on his name.
• Kairi's favorite word seems to be "Sora" or "SORA!" or "Soo... raa..." She can even say it while disembodied!
• See also Roxas' "Hayner! Pence! Olette!"
• Also Sora's classic "Riku!". Can be heard a lot in The World That Never Was...
• Birth By Sleep has everyone good who was lost throughout the series saying Sora's name; asking him to save them.
• Xe...ha...nort...? Xeha...nort... XEHANOOOOOOORRRTT!!
• Used in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex The Game, when Batou comes across two Motokos fighting (not unlike Pazu's situation in 2nd Gig), he figures out who the impostor is by yelling out, "MOTOKOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and shooting the one who responded because the Major does not react when someone yells her given name.
• Within the Tales (series), it is common for the lead male character to scream another character's name during a dramatic scene—Stahn in Tales of Destiny screams "LEON! LEON!"; Kyle in Tales Of Destiny 2 screams "REALAAAA!"; Cless in Tales of Phantasia: The Animation screams "CHESTER!" and "DHAOOOOS!"; Asch (who is not the lead character, but a party member who nonetheless plays an immensely important role in the story) in Tales of the Abyss screams "REPLICAAAA!" in reference to Luke; Senel in Tales of Legendia screams "STELLAAAA!"; Yuri in Tales of Vesperia screams "ESTEEELLLLLLLEEE!!"; and, most famously of all (to the point of being parodied within the series itself as well as within the Tales fandom) Veigue in Tales of Rebirth screams "KUREAAAAAAA!" ("Claire!"), to the point of absurdity.
• This video only scratches the surface of how much the Tales (series) loves this trope.
• In Tales of Symphonia: The Animation, Lloyd screams out "COLLETTOOOOOOO!" when she loses her soul.
• This even happens in the sequel to Tales of Symphonia; Emil screams "Marta... MARTA!" if you get the bad ending.
• If only this was the only example. You could die of alcohol poisoning if you took a shot every time one of the characters responds to someone by saying their name with an ellipse behind it.
• Tales of Graces: ASBEEEEEEL!
• Metal Wolf Chaos: "RICHAAAAAAARD!!!"
• "MICHAELLLLL!!!"
• Resident Evil: "LOOOOOUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSS!" - not quite addressing him by the right name to the very end. Which can kind of kill it a little.
• Metal Gear: Snake? Snake?! SNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEE!!!
• Near the end of the Sandral/Matale feud quest in Knights of the Old Republic: "There you are, Shen!" "Father!" "Mr. Matale!" "Rahasia!" "Father!" "Mr. Sandral!" "Nurik!" "Ahlan!"
• Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan: OOOUUUEENNNDAAAAAAAAANNNN!!!
• Killzone 2: "Sev?! SEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVV!!!" Dick Richardson was surprised it actually didn't morph into "SNAAAAAAAAKEEEEEE!!"
• Zero says "Iris" at least ten times in his infamous ending in Mega Man X 4.
• In a turnaround, Mega Man Zero's Ciel cries Zero's name at least three times, and the last time was a hopeless bid for Zero to get out of Ragnarok even though it's already too late by that time.
• So far in the series, the first thing X says upon seeing Zero destroyed or resurrected has been "Zero!"
• One of the last lines in Day of Sigma is this one from Zero as he's regaining consciousness: "Sigma...X...X? X! X!"
• Sigma, Vile, Dr. Cain, and all of the Mavericks get the chance to say X's name over the course of the game the OVA comes with.
• Suffice it to say, the Mega Man franchise likes using this trope; characters will say each other's names for no reason at all!
• Fire Emblem: "SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTHE!" and in Path of Radiance: "FATHER!!"
• EarthBound: "Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness, Ness....."

• Loretta! Sister! Loretta! Sister! Loretta! Sister! Loretta! Sister! Loretta! Sister! Loretta! Sister!
• Upon his defeat in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, the Fake Boss Albus bellows a truly epic "SHAAANOOOAAAAAA!!"
• Especially funny when you do this fight as Albus.
• Likewise, Maxim of Harmony of Dissonance also yells "JUSTEEEEEEE!!!!!" when beaten.
• And when you reach the final boss in Julius Mode in Dawn of Sorrow, you get one depending on which character is leading the strike: "ARIKADO!" "VERUNANDES!" "YURIUSU... BELMONDOOO!"
• As well as the lead's heavy hearted 'Soma...'.
• Thanks to Castlevania Judgment, we also have "LORD DRACULAAAAA!", "LORD DRACULAAAAA!" and "LORD GALAMOOOOOTH!"
• Touhou: Mostly in Fanon, but Ran Yakumo seems to be fond of yelling her Shikigami's name: "CHEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!"
• Guilty Gear: SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL!
• BlazBlue: Masta Unito... AMA-TEH-RASUUUUU!
• Evil Zone:

• Team Fortress 2:

• In Luigi's Mansion, pressing "A" with no other context action available will cause Luigi to call out in search of his brother. These can range from a tentative "Mario?" to a full blown Narm Charm "MAARR-EEEEOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
• Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga: "MARIO!" "LUIGI!" "BABIES!"
• Eternal Darkness: "Charlemaaaaagne..."
• Sonic Adventure 2: Shadow yells "MARIA" when he dies in levels, plus tons of times in flashbacks.
• Amy's "SONNIIICCCCC!"
• Tails screams out for Sonic too.
• World of Warcraft: ARTHAAAAAAAAAS!!!
• In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Marche will call Montblanc's name if Montblanc dies in a Jagd, "Montblanc? Montblanc!"
• Exclusively for its Audio Adaptation, Marche calls Montblanc's name while crying at the end of the series, along with the very ending where Montblanc calls Marche's name softly, along with an echo, after his One-Liner.
• That's not just enough. Montblanc actually went exaggerated when Marche goes to Prison (along with Ritz) and before he faces Llednar Twem.
• Space Channel 5:
• Ulala calls Pudding and Jaguar's names after they get pimp-slapped by Blank and proceeds to do absolutely nothing about it but continue the fight without them.
• When Ulala gets pimp-slapped by Purge in Part 2, Noize does this as well.
• "ULALAAAAA!"
• "PURRRRRRRGE!"
• The World Ends With You: If Beat is your partner, he'll sometimes cry out "RHYYYYYYYYYME!!!" when you get a Game Over.

• Dawn of War had Lord Bale's infamous "SSSSSINDDRRIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
• Tales of Monkey Island: In Chapter 1, when a blunder with the Cutlass of Kaflu ends with the fuse being unintentionally lit in Elaine's ship: "Elaine!" "Guybrush?" (monkey does a Face Palm, gunpowder barrel explodes) "ELAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaine!!!"
• And at the end of Chapter 4, when LeChuck runs Guybrush through: "Guybrush!" "Elaine?" "GUYBRUSH!!!" "LECHUCK! (laughs) Arr, this name-shouting is jolly good fun!"
• Mass Effect: By Memetic Mutation: "Shepard." "Wrex."
• Two examples in the trailer for Mass Effect 2 (only one of which showed up in the game): Joker yells "Shepard!" while the commander is sacrificing him/herself to launch Joker's escape pod, and Male!Shepard yells "Tali!" while she is about to fall off the strange hexagonal platform at the end of the Collector Base.
• He does say that, but not then - if Tali is carried away by the swarms, he screams her name.
• Zaeed's "SHEPARD!" if you leave him to die.
• Dead Rising's sniper trio miniboss, depending on what order they're taken out in: "JAAAAACK!!" "THOMAAAAS!" "DAAAAAAD!!"
• Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2 loved this a lot. Characters names are shouted right and left shamelessly.
• Mushihime-sama:
• "RECO-CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!"
• "PARUMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!"
• As in parodying Metal Gear Solid, if in Bang's storyline, if he lost against Hakumen, Litchi will call his name out like this: "Bang? Bang! BAAAAAANNNGGG!!!" Bang just never gets any luck because that's when Litchi finally responds to him the way he wanted to, and he's down for the count to hear that. His other outcome if he won against Hakumen isn't any better for his crush.
• Heavy Rain:
• The King of Fighters: "KYOOOOOOO!"
• Fatal Fury: "GEESE!"
• Final Fantasy XIII: "Snow!" "SERAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
• During fights with "BARTHANDELUS!", the current party leader will often say his name during paradigm changes.
• Final Fantasy XIII-2: Snow gets another one (two in quick succession, in fact), when Serah and Noel arrive to help him defeat Royal Ripeness.
• Prototype:
• Happens after Jak's Suicidal Gotcha in Jak 3

Daxter: Jak? JAAAK!

Crag: Slavers? You led the slavers here?! To Rockopolis?! You idiots! Do you realize what you've done?!
Herbert 'Daring' Dashwood: Inspired you to... tighten your defenses?
Crag: DASHWOOOOOOOOD!!!
Argyle: Warm welcome's over, boss! Time to scram!

• Heavenly Sword: KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!
• Silent Hill 2 seems to use name-calling as a replacement for actual dialogue in a few places. ...Actually, no. Most of the time.
• One (although there are many examples of excessive name repetition) is during the scene when Pyramid Head impales Maria in Brookhaven Hospital:

Maria: Jaaaaames!
JAAAAAAAAAMES!
James: NOOOOOOO!

Pit: Hades.
Hades: Pit.
Pit: Hades!
Hades: Pit!
Pit: Hadeeeeeees!
Hades: Piiiiittt!
Both: It's ON!

• It gets louder, but then eventually ends with them saying the names softly. Happens again later:

Pit: Hades!
Hades: Pit!
Pit: Hades!
Hades: PIT!
Pit: HADES!
Hades: Piiiiiiiiiiit!
Pit: Hadeeeeeees!
Hades: HACHOO!
Pit: Excuse you. But anyway...
Both: Now it's REALLY on! On to victory/death!

• Used in an... odd kind of way in the game Fist of the North Star: Ken's rage. one of the character's special attacks shares the name with the trope. What does it do? He drops a STONE BUST of himself on his enemy, sending them flying. Fits the trope in a very, very odd way

VISUAAAL NOVEEELS!

• Fate Stay Night: SAABEEERRRRR!!!! Learn to love it or hate it.
• Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinasai has numerous instances, but worthy of mention is Tatsuko, who at one point during the Ryuuzetsuran route is reduced to repeating "Yamato-kun" over and over again while fighting.
• A number of the main villains of the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney series yell out the name of their most hated enemy when defeated in court.
• A few are particularly scary to the point where things burst into flame. "MIA. FEY. MIIIIIIA FEEEEEEEEY!"
• EDGEWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTH!!! *EPIC WALL HEADBANG*
• Kristoph's insane, iconic "WRIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiGGGGGGgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHTTTTTT!!!" which is so long it takes multiple text boxes to fill.
• Aoi Shiro: ROURYU! ROURYU! BA ROURYU!
• In Tokimeki Memorial 2, Akane's brother Sou-Banchou is very fond of this trope, each time his Knight Templar Big Brother side kicks in. "AAAAKANNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
• Yo Jin Bo takes a jab at this one; after Hatsuhime's first meeting with the other main characters, Yo teases Jin: "'Haaaatsu-chaaaaaaan!' 'Jiiiiin-samaaaaaaaaa!'"
• Meanwhile, Ittosai's Bad Ending plays it straight; it's titled "Call My Name" for a reason.

WEEEB COMIIICS!

• The Order of the Stick, when the Monster in the Dark finally stops calling O-Chul "Mr. Stiffly" and shouts out his name as he rushes towards a Hopeless Boss Fight against Xykon.
• A more subtle variation occurs with Belkar, (who addresses the elf wizard Vaarsuvius as "Elf" or "Ears" or, more often, with some insulting nickname), when he and Haley are left behind after the other half of the team sails away:

"OK, elf, enough with the jokes. You got me, fair enough, now bring the ship back.
...
No, seriously, wherever you're hiding: You really had me thinking for a moment that we got left behind. Great illusion. Now, can we just get out of this stupid city already?
...
Vaarsuvius?"

Leo: Cats don't need licenses, to hunt, fight, kill. But they never have to worry about why they do it, or the greater consequences, either. And we... Tigris, what's my name?
Tigris: I... don't follow.
Leo: My name. What's my name?
Tigris: Uh. "Leo?"
Leo: ...no. "Leo" is the lion mask I wear into battle. And yes, the mask is deeply a part of me. But my mind -- my soul -- is human. My name is Jason, and it's me who has to live with the things I do.

Genghis Khan: PINATA. *SMACKS*

Genghis Khan: (beat)... PINATA. *SMACKS*

• SpongeBob SquarePants:
• "Krabs!" "Plankton." "KRABS!" "PLANKTON!" "Spongebob."
• When Plankton fell in love with Mr. Krabs' mom:

Mr. Krabs: Plankton!
Plankton: Krabs!
Mr. Krabs' Mom: Eugene!
Mr. Krabs: Mommy?!
Plankton: Mommy?
Spongebob: Spongebob!
Mr. Krabs: (angrily) Spongebob!

Robin: STARFIRE!
Starfire: -gasp- ROBIN!

• American Dad plays with this when Stan starts falling through row after row of dilapidated stairs while Steve takes a completely functional lift down at the same pace. At first, Steve is actually worried, shouting "Dad!!" a few times and loses a bit of enthusiasm each time until he starts saying the word in a monotone. Eventually he finds a newspaper and reads the comics while Stan continues to fall and crash through the wooden stairs.
• Kim Possible; Ron Stoppable's Crowning Moment of Awesome during So the Drama:

Ron: Say my name. SAY IT!
Dr. Drakken: It's... uh, er, Ron... Stoppable!
Ron: Boo-ya.

• Futurama:
• "WERNSTROM!"[1]
• "B-E-N-D-E-R! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEENDER!"
• "ROOOOOBOOOOOOT HOOOOOOOOUUSSSEEE!!"
• Transformers Animated: STARSCREEEEEEEEEAAAAAM! Think KHAAAAAN! and then some.
• Which is a Mythology Gag based on a slightly less extreme tendency of Megatron's G1 counterpart.
• And Megatron finally using Optimus Prime's name in the "Endgame" finale means that he finally sees Optimus as an archenemy as opposed to just another Autobot nuisance.

Megatron: If I cannot save my clones, at least I'll have the pleasure of destroying you, Optimus Prime!
Optimus: So you can remember my name.

• Megatron screaming Starscream's name is a recurring thing. In the IDW comics, it happens when Starscream is using Ultra-Energon to try and overthrow him. The juiced-up Starscream still gets EASILY pwned, and this Megatron will not be taking it lying down like certain other Megatrons. In Animated, we get two: First, Megs finds out it's Screamer who sabotaged him in premiere. Later, Starscream tries to rig a MacGuffin to explode and destroy the Autobots and Megatron (and about half of Detroit would likely have gone with them.) Starscream fails.

Starscream: This day couldn't get any worse.
[Megatron descends into view]
Starscream: Spoke too soon.
Megs: STAAAAARSCREEEEEEEAM--!
Screamer: [Flying away at high speed] Y-you must have me confused with some other harrier jet... [Next scene is Starscream slamming into the ground. Hard.]

Arnold (on a bus): Did you just hear something now?
Gerald: No.

OOOTHEEER!

• Stan Freberg's record "John and Marsha" spoofed the radio soap opera by having the characters say nothing but each other's names. Also featured on his radio program.
• Oddly enough, the alien brain Krang in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1987 liked watching a TV show that seemed to consist entirely of a man named John and a woman named Marsha staring at each other and saying their names over and over.
• Mad: John didn't have his glasses on, and was saying it to the wrong girl at first. Also, he stepped off a cliff to kill himself; a trampoline saved him (repeatedly); the John-Marsha scene played; and when Marsha rejected him, that was the point when the trampoline people moved the trampoline...
• There exists a piece of fanart of L and Light from Death Note having sex. Light says the trope, and it takes L a few repetitions to realize he's screaming "Kira".
• The feud between The Angry Video Game Nerd and The Nostalgia Critic always have them yelling each other's name dramatically whenever they meet up... somehow.

NC: NEEEEEERRRRD!!!!!
AVGN: CRITIIIIIICCC!!!!

• Hilariously done in their first confrontation movie:

NC: NEEEEEERRRD!!!! NEEERRRRD!!!!
AVGN: CRITIC! How dare you come here!
NC: NEEEEEERRRD!!!!

• In the NC Review for The Wizard (film), the critic at the end draws glasses on a picture of Jimmy Woods seeing a personification of the Critic.

NC: Oh my God! "NEEEEEERRRRD!!!!!"

Obscurus Lupa: Don't do it, Critic!
NC: Obscurus Lupa?
later
Linkara: Don't do it, Critic, there's still time!
NC: Linkara?

Spoony: No, Critic, don't do it!
NC: Spoony?
